Automatic Outlook Mail/Exchange Synchronizer [rk-OSR] [Latest Update: 15 OCT 2007]

I have just installed this application on my Touch Pro and it is great, wakes up, syncs and disconnects perfectly, however it will not close outlook after its done. This is annoying when it has found no messages as when i turn the phone on its in the messaging application. I have the close outlook button ticked. The weird thing is that when i test it, it works fine but not when it is automated.

Any suggestions. If I can get this working I will definatly be making a donation.

Edit... It seems to only happen if my device is locked, it closes the program fine if it is not locked.

This thing is just awesome, man, i really LOVE it!! Just what I was looking for, and works right out of the box. Kinda like Plug'n'play? ;-)

Just a question - at my university I need to connect to a proxy server to get on the internet. Is it possible to configure somehow so that it will login automatically here as well? To connect, I usually have to open Opera and accept a login module through the university's proxy (I have to press "OK" to login with the pre-saved password)...

When you have installed rk-OSR it would add a shortcut called 'rk-OSR Now'
But you have to first edit the above link as follows...
You need use resco explorer or any other file explorer(not the default microsoft file explorer)
Go to the folder \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
Locate the link rk-OSR Now and go to the properties
Change the target from
"\Storage Card\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe"
->>
"\Storage Card\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe Now"
Note just you are adding 'Now' at the end.

so now you should be able to perform the manuall sync using the link 'rk-OSR Now' link.
You can also assign this link to hardware button.

If you are still not able to get it working here is the link(zipped), unzip and copy it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ on your device

Thanks for writing this application, it's fantastic; but I can't get rk-OSR.exe Now to work. I have WM 6.1 from the HyperDragon build so I don't think I should install anything else. rk-OSR works fine, I set the Wi-Fi configuration, I tested it and everything runs smoothly.

I used Total commander to modify the shortcut to "\Storage Card\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe Now". But the icon changes into the default Windows icon and after that, Programs>rk-OSR Now doesn't work, nothing happens. I downloaded the modified shortcut but I get the same thing. Now I get a message that says:

"The 'rk-OST.exe Now' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificae, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file."

I went to the Program Files folder and indeed there's no 'rk-OST.exe Now' file, but I don't know if there's supposed to be one.

I'm not sure what's missing here. Can somebody help me out?

PS. I did restart the phone (soft reset).
PS2. I do have a Kaiser but since it's also WM, that shouldn't be a problem, should it?

Please note following things

The 'rk-OSR Now' icon will be put in '\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\' NOT in the installed directory.
The edited target should read.. "\Program Files\rk-OSR\rk-OSR.exe" Now (Note the position of double quotes, they must be present as highlighted)
This should fix your issue

You should configure the ‘rk-OSR’, and make sure it is working properly and you are able to synchronize your accounts properly.

I use HTC touch HD and before used touch cruise and there is a vietnamese cook called PhamQuang that does really good cooking on rooms for this devices but i've allways stayed away from his kitchen because I've never got rk-osr running on them. And now he is using a new version of 3.5 compact framework (7338 used to be 7228) and can't get to work either. The error I encounter is when I try to save the settings (with a scheduled program) appears an error message saying the "Conversion from string "12 Mai 2009 07:40" to type 'date' is not valid while save, please report this error" can you pllleeeeaaassse trace this error? I'm enjoying this rom a lot. Many thanks and sorry for my bad english

I think its date format related issue... Is it possible for you to change the date format of the device to US style?

I think its the problem with short date format on the device...Probably the ROM cooks have used registry edit to change the format to display 'month' but the actual month format on the short date disply should be a number. So you might want to change it back to default such as 'dd/mm/yy' or 'mm/dd/yy'

TyTnGuy thank you for sharing this great application with us. I read all the comments and I have seen that you were happy to get feedback from others so here is mine:


When I turned on my phone lock (password protection prompt) I have seen that the application was not retrieving the mail. Phone lock stops the operation of the scheduled task. I think this is the most important remaining issue about this application.
I agree with other comments on the thread where they say we should have a better scheduling with time intervals. You may have a list of 7 days of the week with check buttons and each of them have a separate set up in the cfg file for more flexibility. (i.e. Monday: Start: 9.00 Finish: 18.00 Intervals: Every 15 Minutes)
As far as I can understand the Log is keeping the record of last operation only when it retrieves a mail. This is a little bit confusing. When you check the log you think the application is not working on the scheduled times. I would rather seeing the last successful operation.
It is good that the application is closing the outlook after the scheduled task but when we use "Now" shortcut I think outlook should stay open.


Once again it is a great application and above comments are just my feedbacks. I can live without all except my first comment and I hope you can find a solution to that one.

I have a question for you. I am using rk OSR and it worked perfectly before but all of a sudden it says could not connec to WIFI network. Which should not happen because I am in my own home and when I manual turn on wifi it automatically connects.

I have soft reseted, and reinstalled. Still same problems. Please some help is needed.

No it does not work on test RkOSR. It doesnt work when waking up. It says cant find network. I have stock rom, it worked perfectly for many weeks now. Just suddenly problems persist.

Here are to files the cnf and log file. I think it would be easier if you looked at those. The problem is it turns on the wifi adapter, but I dont think my phone turns it on. I dont see the wifi sumbol on my top bar. Please let me know

Here is a application I developed for my personal use now sharing with you all for non commercial use.
I basically use this utility to check emails from multiple email accounts from my windows mobile device using the wifi, gprs networks

You can even perform Exchange Active Sync too!



Feature list

Works on windows mobile 5 and 6.
Can sync up multiple email accounts at multiple schedules setup.
Can perform Exchange Active Sync.
Connect using: Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi if not GPRS, Manual Wi-Fi, Gprs Only or Existing connection(USB)
Switch off GPRS/3G after sync
Option not to sync during Saturdays and Sundays
Get notified on emails or failed attempts
Get notified with custum sound(wav files).
Keeps device 'Alive' till all the accounts have been synchronized.
Supports 'Silent' mode.
Supports command line initiation.
Supports one touch* email checking(one touch on the shortcut connects to wi-fi network and switches between accounts and synchronizes and then hangs up wi-fi)
Can be set to sync only if device sleeping.
Does not write anything to registry.
Does not run in background.(works on notifications)
You can uninstall the application from ‘Remove programs’ and delete the application directory.
Installation:
Install the cab file attached below

After installation launch the program rk-OSR from the programs and go thru each tab page to configure it and finally save the settings (make sure the Enable check box is checked) test the functionality if working properly. Then close the application. Now the sync should happen at next specified schedule.



*One touch synchronization: A Very good feature for people checking mail manually, so that you do not have to switch accounts and click the sync menu each time or start/stop wifi etc, just one click to do that now. You can also assign this shortcut to hardware buttons. The new install adds a new program icon called ‘rk-OSR-Now’ to your programs list. But you need to do the following procedure done before attempting ‘rk-OSR-Now’ shortcut.

You need compact framework 2.0 installed inorder to run this application. The compact framework is already part of WM6, so if your device is WM6 skip this step. But most of the WM5 devices do not have this update. So you must download here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=0c1b0a88-59e2-4eba-a70e-4cd851c5fcc4&displaylang=en) and run the installation on your desktop (then active sync to update your device). nahid, I think the problem is, rk-OSR not able to start your wi-fi adapter(since you said you do not see the icon on top hunting for wifi access point.
If you go back in this thread there was a long discussion on the topic of 'Wi-Fi' connection. See if that helps you. (I think one user by name 'feathers' had this issue )

Thanks for the great app. I plan to do the following with my phone one day:

unlocked GSM Palm Treo Pro with no data plan. it will use this app to check for email when I am in a WiFi building or home. saves a lot of battery by shutting the WiFi radio off when it is done.

If you're working on the next version please consider the following:
a- 320x320 resolution screens like the Palm Treo Pro can't see or use all the options because there are no scroll bars in the app.

b- Correct the issue where the normal Outlook new mail notifications/sounds don't work.

If you do not want the auto sync then set the Check box "Disable", So that only sync happens when you click the 'Now' button.

First you have to make sure you are able to sync your pocket outlook manually..That is first connect to wifi network, then manually sync the outlook. If you are able to to that manually then you should configure the rk-OSR to work automatically.

and is it possible to let "rk-osr.exe -now" run completely invisible or only with a small status bar? that would be helpful for using it in a script.

Hello, nice program, I use it on my HD2 and it works.

I have an internet flat rate call web'n'walk in Germany and there I only can sync one account with a new opened internet connection of GPRS/3G. After syncing your program can switch GPRS/3G off.

To sync all accounts automaticly, first the GPRS/3G must be switch off, first account get´s GPRS/3G automaticly, then switch off GPRS/3G and sync the second account. And again in this way to sync account 3 and 4.

Could you make a option to switch off GPRS/3G before syncing every acount, is this possible ? Or is there a other way to realize my wish ?

The pocket pc syncs to exchange with current settings if I connect via usb and use activesync's internet connection. I have to put my computer on my works vpn for that to work however.

That same vpn info is programmed into the pocket pc. Any help appreciated. Thanks. :)

This program works! I had to set my wifi connection settings to "This network connects to work" in order for it to work, but then it did thank goodness. No sync over wifi per microsoft is garbage.

Thanks Tytnguy, great piece of software!

However after using this a few days, I have noticed a couple of issues:

1. outlook no longer closes, even though I have the "Auto close outlook" ticked
I think this use to work, but the last few days, when I turn my screen on, outlook is still running (not automatically closed).

2. When using "Wi-fi or Default connection", the program failed to run at all at the scheduled times this morning.
I will retest this tomorrow with only using Default connection (gprs) and see if this works.

I am using a HTC Touch Pro 2, wm6.5, standard HTC rom, 1.86.707.4

download time in outlook is not so easy - i know......because no sync-call of the pocket outlook API availibble...
in my application *SchedHandler* i do the checking process via counting the emails in pocket outlook, and if changed, then i know that the polling was successfully...
if wanted i can help you to implement also the email-checker.if the email items will be changed, then you know, that there is a new email ...and you can do then the next processes ...

Since its happening at the end of sync, is it because of the fact that 'Close GPRS connection checked', See if that is the reason.

Regarding the 'long time' issue may be you have to adjust the settings 'Connection Wait time' and 'Wait time to sync'
