How did you get around the "invalid model ID"?
Did the trick with pof's SPL 1.11 work as suggested by johnnylavah?
Or did you just spend money to IMEI check?

SecureGSM
13th July 2007, 10:59 AM
It certailnly worked on my non-supercided HTC S620. If your device is HTC S620 regardles or the OS language it will likely accept update.no supercidding is required. DASH handsets would likely require CID unlocking for this upgrade to work.

1. run bootloader upgrade ( well, downgrade) first
2. run rom updater

This is "IU BUILD. TEST ONLY!" ROM.

Anyways...to get your English back after the ROM is upgraded:

Start --> Settings (Настройка) --> press 7 --> press5:

now, in the top most combo box (Кодировка) :

select UK or US English and press left soft button to confirm

in the next combo box select 3rd from the top entry: English Australia (Английский Австралия) and press left soft button to confirm

now, press left soft button 4 times to confrim that changes will become effective after soft reset.

At this stage you may power cycle you Excalibur

CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)
Radio: 4.1.13.44_02.94.90
Model Name HTC-S620

P.S. You do not need to do anything about QWERTY keyboard layout. It's just plain standard QWERTY after the language settings are applied.

And just in case if you do not like default green colour of the home screen, there is one called WIndows Default available that looks a bit more attractive to me :)

i haven't tried this, but it might work...

So, just another beta ROM... :(
Nevertheless it's good to know that HTC is still working/testing WM6 for S620! Hope the final version will appear soon! :)

Is this an original HTC ROM without any branding?

Are there many differences to the T-Mobile WM6 (exept for the branding)?

SecureGSM
13th July 2007, 01:17 PM
Yes, original HTC, no extra branding. no extra bloatware. This ROM is very different to T-Mo DASH WM6 ROM. Much, much better this one. Great improvements accross the board.

13th July 2007, 04:42 PM
Is it possible to go back to the WM5 ROM if the WM6 doesn't work out? If so how do you do that?

jbleasdale
13th July 2007, 05:08 PM
Hi all.

I have just upgraded from from WM5 on a CID unlocked S620 and all seems to be working fine.
Getting out of Russian is a little tricky, but following the steps in this thread worked fine.
TomTom works (as well as it ever has on WM5/6), UK Vodafone GPRS works, Hotmail and Exchange email working, Google Maps runs OK.
No obvious issues or bugs so far.

General performance seems to be comparable to the last WM5 ROM.

Cheers,
John

securegsm, can you help us out - the ones who are getting the error, my phone's app unlocked but it's locked to rogers. i tried 2 times but i keep getting the same error. how did you get around this? is your phone unlocked already or it's locked to some provider - if it is, how'd you get around the invalid id? i tried it - it didn't work for me :(

I just tried it on my S621 from Centennial Wireless, but it didn't work. I go the invalid device id also. I'm pretty sure it's unlocked, and it's not branded in any way. I can't find any difference from my device to the regular S620. Any ideas?

ahh sucks to be us eh...i'm in no mood to spend 40 $ on this, i'm not being cheap or anything but yeah i was considering waiting. i tried to unlock my htc through this site, i paid 10 $ online and they in turn told me they can't unlock my phone because they don't know how to :S so they give me a credit for normal phones. i'm gonna get my bro's k790 unlocked but ahh man, i wanted to try wm6...oh well....i guess it'll be worth the wait. oh btw, did u cid unlock it and get the wm6 on it.?

Unfortunately, I am not aware of any "royalty free" solutions to that.

I guess I'm waiting too. There's no way I'm going to spend $40 to unlock my phone. Hopefully HTC will get on the ball and release WM6 soon. I heard August 10th? Waiting for the world (at least HTC) to change!

lukybandit
13th July 2007, 08:12 PM
just checked - i got paid but come to think about it - it's not worth the 40 $ and the hassle, first off - it's going to delete everything then second - i'd have to go through all these steps to install and ofcourse before i could do all this, i have to pay imei and wait for them to send me the file which will take time, waste of time and money in my books - personally, i rather have the full final version with all the fixes and no problems and ofcourse no branding involved. so good luck guys, i'm on the wait list, aug is around the corner and we'll all rejoice then :P

cinimod1000
13th July 2007, 08:54 PM
I think you'll find that you will have to CID unlock your Dash/S621 for whatever HTC version you want to install. Unless you have a "HTC" branded device, your only option is to go to imeicheck.co.uk. The "soon to be released final version" will no doubt require the same treatment..........
Maybe if imeicheck read these forums, they would realise a larger return if the price was say, $20.............it appears that MANY more would use their services.......

PS. Thanks for sharing. As usual, a great forum, with great people!

Big problem!!!

I followed the instructions provided by IMEI-CHECK, but ended up with a Fatal Error. At first I thought it wasn't a big deal, they warned about it in their e-mail:

7) when update finished and device started you will get a message:
"Data Crashed, contact service provider" (!NO PANIC!)
==> Simply fix this problem by running the unlocker again and this
time select the key file normal way (full unlock process again).

But the problem is that when I run the unlocker again it says there's no Activesync Connection. And when I start Activesync, it can't connect to my device due to the fatal error! I'm in a sort of loop!!!!
Can anyone help?

Thanx a lot!!!!

jhwo99
13th July 2007, 10:13 PM
Don't start Activesync, just run the unlocker.
In this stadium you can't connect with Activesync.

Bugs74
13th July 2007, 11:31 PM
The solution was to take my simcard & memorycard out and reboot.
Then I was able to synch with activesync and run the update utility again.
My s620 is working fine now!

Hi there,

you can change home screen appearence in: settings-->Home Screen.
"Windows Default" theme would be good starting point ;)

Internet settings are located in settings-->connection. Talk to your GSM Carrier's support people. They should be able to guide you through.
Best of luck!

Pease press "Fn" and "Space Bar" buttons at the same time.
This should bring forward popup menu with the following options:

1. xt9
2. ABC
3. Language

Please select "ABC" option. If you would like to enable xt9 functionality back, then just select "xt9" option from the same menu.

Please note: xt9 menu is accessible by pressing (Fn + Space Bar) only while your cursor is located in the text entry field, be that contact editing, text, IE address bar, etc, etc.

I hope it helps.

Hi,

I have a spanish HTC s620, so it's sim-unlocked but cid-locked. in a previous post, you said it was possible to use the bootloader downgrade without cid-unlocking, but in my case, it always sais 'invalid model'.

it is necessary to cid-unlock?

* repair keyboard symbols allocation,
* install DONotFOrget to kill the blinking LED,
* regedit to make screen swith of in 15 secs, backlight in 10..

Ps. it seems this ROM is application unlocked
Pps. Don't bother going to WindowsUpgrade, there are no updates at this time

I can't send a text-message (SMS). When I type a message, and press send, nothing happens. When I reboot my device, open the message from 'Drafts' and press send it does send the message. But when I type a new message, I have to reboot before I am able to send it!
Did anyone encounter this problem? And more important, can it be resolved?

No, I have no issue with SMS sending. I have done the following:

Selected the contact (my own phone number for the test) and pressed OK, selected "Send text message" and pressed OK, typed the message and pressed "send" button.

Message has been delivered almost instantly.

I am wondering if you have followed the same route or typed in phone number manually instead?
Also, please double check that in Settings--> Phone-->Call Options:

Text messages service centre: you have correct service numbere detected.

I am having an issue trying to connect to the internet. I have the blackberry internet package. When I connect using WIFI I can sync with my work exchange server-emails, contacs ETC but when I am not using WIFI it will not work.

It was working about an hour ago before I download the ROM? Any thoughts. It says to check my internet connections under settings but there are so many I'm not sure what to check. I know that with my plan I can surf and stuff.

EDIT: Just had to adjust the PROXY and GPRS. Smooth sailing now!!

Could someone with this rom check a couple of setting options for me?
POP e-mail settings. The tmobile rom only gives Work or Internet as options to connect with. WM5 also gives WapNetwork as an option. Is this available in this Rom?
Also, Exchange Activesync only gives The Internet as the Connect With option. Does the HTC Rom give further options?
I know there are workarounds for us folks with Tmobile USA on the Tzones plan, but it would be far simpler if the above is available.
If anyone has a moment to check the above I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I had the same problem and the guys from IMEI-CHECK send me this solution:

Hello,
Looks like you try a cross model upgrade and it will not work. We found a way to do it, so please follow the instructions bellow:

Tools you need:
===============

- HexWorkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
- the ROM of your choice
- Winzip or Winrar
- a valid UNL file for YOUR phone

Preparation:
============

a) install HexWorkshop and Winzip or Winrar on your pc

b) in explorer on pc, RIGHT click on the ROM of your choice and use:
"Extract files to folder ..." from conext menu
Now it will unpack all the files

c) in the new folder you will have ONE file like "HRUU_signed.NBH" (*.NBH)
RIGHT click on the .NBH file and use:
"Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from context menu

d) You'll see on the 5th row EXCA20000
==> !!! make it EXCA***** (5 stars) and save the file

e) Now RIGHT click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and use:
"Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from conext menu
Search for word "BsaD5SeoA" (without quotes, case sensitive)
You'll find it around address 0x3FC6C
==> !!! replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" (without quotes) and save the file

It worked for me!

I am running leaked TM WM6 ROM right now.

Yes I am. The active sync connection cuts off when the upgrade begins and then I get the error message Error 260 and it says that there is a problem with the USB connection but I cnow that I was properly connected before the upgrade started.

The phone shows the special three color screen like it should when I try to install the Russian ROM and the installation begins but then I get the same er error message as everybody else (invalid device)

I dont know what the difference between CID and SIM unlock is but my phone is unlocked and I was able to install an earlier version of HTC ROM to replace the original T-mobile one. I now have the WM6 from t-Mobile.

so far i'm only having 2 problems with the rom on my dash.

the network shows up as "get more..."
i really wouldn't mind this but the ... makes it look like its searching for something. i tried following the post at hofo to change it but it doesn't work for this rom. any ideas?

the other problem is the voicemail symbol is always on even though i have no new messages. i suppose i could go into the registry and turn it off but then it will probably never turn back on or turn back on after reboot.

both are minor problems i can live with for the stability of this rom.

It seems most leaked roms show Get More... as the network. I tried the leaked WM6 on my Blackjack and it did the same thing. This may mean that the phone will not allow you to select a network manually, or download the list of Preferred Networks. (Found under Settings<Phone<Networks, then Menu. Please try it and see if it works.

For the Voicemail, you could call your number from another phone, leave a message, and then retrieve and delete it from your cellphone. This will often prompt the network to send your phone a 'clear' voicemail signal.

Let us know if the above worked....

Thanks all again for the response. Just to clarify, is 'WAP Network' actually available as a setting in the POP set up? I do not mean in the 'Network Settings', but when an e-mail account it set up, can you select 'WAP Network' under 'Advanced Server Settings', 'Network Connections'. With the T-Mobile official rom you can only select 'Work' or 'The Internet'.

I thought that the option WAP only appeared when you've configured a WAP connection...

I don't think so. WM5 used to have all the options, but it seems that every WM6 version I have seen (including Blackjack) omits "WAP Network". I think 1) MS is trying to get "Standard" closer to "Professional" and 2) The carriers carry a lot of weight and want to make it difficult for us cheapskates..

I can make it work, using the T-Zones $5.99 plan here in the US, by creating multiple GPRS settings (two), and multiple Proxy settings (three). This way the Dash will connect to Exchange Server, POP accounts, the Web, etc, using both WiFi and Edge, without having to change a setting anytime.
BUT the consequence is that latency is longer - the Dash actually takes some time to find the correct connection.....WM5 was MUCH faster, without needing all these settings.
Oh well, I suppose I need to start thinking about spending more money on my data connection, although I still think it's expensive for what you get. Hmm

I had problems transferring the file at first too -- i kept receiving error messages about being unable to override the file.

what worked -- placing the updated file in my documents and using Total Commander's "move" option to move the file into \windows. the file replaced/updated the current file, and after soft reset, the keyboard settings worked great.

if that dosen't work, you can try opening the file in Total Commander and editing it there...best of luck!

alt + spacebar

It's not as simple as that - I use two languages (eng+rus), with english interface english input language is the default. When I select ABC in fn-space menu, input always reverts to english, and if I select russian T9 gets enabled automatically. Maybe there is a way to disable it completely, through the registry or something?

Or at least force default input language to russian without switching the entire user interface (I would, but translation is somewhat clunky).

Does this affect all users of this test ROM?

Also has this auto-time zone bug been fixed on this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291505

Did you run the RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly first?

Yeah, I've tried all the tricks listed here. I'm on Vista, new version of WMDC. I've tried both manual bootloader mode as well as ActiveSync connection. I even popped the SIM and SD cards for good measure. I ran the UpgradeOnly RUU, but I'm not sure it worked (though bootloader mode indicates 1.11.0000 as the version). Running it again gives me "Invalid Model ID" (after getting to 100%, though). Running the WM6 RUU gets to about 3% and then gives me "Invalid Vender ID" (gotta love the spelling error). I really do have an HTC S620...:D

Well if you're on Vista then you need to update the drivers with modified ones. Do a search on modaco for Vista RUU this have been covered plenty.

I know someone posted earlier about new WDC working with RUU butI had no luck with it and had to use the old trick.

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work for me. :(

It can boot without SIM (with or without MicroSD), but not in any other combination. I tried turning power off, removing battery, inserting SIM and microSD, attaching battery and when powering on I still get cycling reboots. Tried this two times, no dice.

Maybe flash the Rom once again?? Or perform a hard reset once you've booted succesfully?

Hi

Thanks but

I am trying to edit the eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt file but when I put it back on the phone it says I do not have enough permissions.

My phone is 100% unlocked.

I have disabled 'read only' and still can't do it.

I am using Vista if that is where the problem is.

They write that updates will be available for TyTN, S620, P3300, P3600 and X7500/Advantage.

OK - I understand about 80% of this, but does this

De update heeft wat vertraging opgelopen door de introductie van de Touch en de ontwikkeling van nieuwe modellen.

mean they did not do it in April because of any contracts regarding to the Touch?

I wonder if they will roll out all five modells in all languages at the same time.

And I believe the genuine HTC ROM won't run on my O2 branded device without CID unlocking.

I don't hope you'll get a RUU with Serial-number restriction or something like that. Why else would they do this thing with the HTC-club and registering your phone there...
They know that this ROM will be out in the Internet two seconds after their upload has been finished :D

2 bugs I have found.

1) The busy tone does not work (certainly in the UK). If you canny an engaged number you get a darlek-like noise.

2) Only the vibrating profile contains the "reminder type" of notification, just like the Dash's ROM. The fix is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1354542

would you mind sharing the resolution?

"Plan B" was for me the solution:

ok suggestion to do the following now:

A) flashing ANY new ROM as CROSS-MODEL-ID update

B) Fix the "Data crashes"

In case you have problems please indicate the step letter/number which is not clear / not working for you.

Just do EVERYTHING EXCAT STEP BY STEP and everything will work.

---------

A)

Please do it EXACT step by step like described now and it will work (it is ESSENTIAL that you do it EXACT STEP BY STEP)

0) turn off antivirus/firewall/everything else running in background

1) start phone in windows, connect active sync (green circle in system tray of your pc)

2) start the unlocker (phone screen will turn white, active sync will disconnect, THIS IS NORMAL)

3) when asked for KEY-FILE or COMM ERROR#1 comes up WAIT 2 MINUTES (DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING)

4) DO NOT TOUCH PHONE AT ALL for ALL the next steps!!!

5) remove USB cable

6) close the unlocker on PC

7) reconnect USB cable

8) unpack the "RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.20.531.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90 _Test.exe"
(right click on the .exe and select "Winzip->Unzip to folder..."

9) in the extracted folder you will find a file called like "RUU_signed.nbh" (.NBH), open it with HEX EDITOR (e.g. HexWorkshop) and locate the string like "EXCA20000" near the beginning of the file. Change it to "EXCA****" (all without the quotes, overwrite the DIGITS with STARS)

10) in the extracted folder you will find a file called like "RUU_Update.exe", open it with HEX EDITOR and SEARCH the string "BsaD5SeoA" and OVERWRITE it with "IMEICHECK" (all without the quotes)

11) start the just edited RUU_Update.exe now and make the ROM update (screen of phone will stay white ALL THE TIME, THIS IS NORMAL)

12) wait till update is complete and phone will start with the new ROM

13) To fix the "Data Crashes" problem just make a COMPLETE run of the unlocker (see B) ) and you are done.

---------
B) To fix the "Data crashes" you only have to make a COMPLETE run of the unlocker.

Please do it EXACT step by step like described now and it will work (it is ESSENTIAL that you do it EXACT STEP BY STEP)

9) at next start the "Data Crashes" will be away.

Good luck

I haven't checked it out yet ( waiting for the official ROM which is very soon ) ..

are you saying that "voicetags" is back with WM6 ??

atleast that's my understanding of WM6 that it is without the voicetags function.

anyway ... there's an alternative solution for anyone like me who must have this feature ... is to get the program called --->> VITO voice dialer

For anyone interested, I downloaded and installed the Russian WM6 Rom to my dopod C720W as per the helpful instructions of this thread and I’m happy to report all went well. I then flash my phone back to the original dopod WM5 Rom and again with total success! For those of you wondering, I did previously paid, ($40) to have my phone unlocked. I liked WM6 OS, however, my keyboard mapping was slightly wrong, (no big deal, I guess) and I couldn’t receive my Outlook Exchange e-mail,which is one of the reasons I got the phone in the first place,( I guess something to do with the GPRS settings). Anyways I had fun playing around with the different Roms.

Q has % (current soft !)
J has @ (current soft pound mark, useless)

M has ! (current soft =)

these are the keys that are messed up for now.. I should probably be switching the HKLM\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD 10XX numbers till I get it right, but it's too much hassle...

anyone has list of 10XXs?

ps. for the scope of my emails, it's most important I have question marks in place :DDD

Check the T-Mobile WM6 thread, this was typed about there; check the other threads that deal with this directly as well. Basically, T-Mobile is widdling away at the 'free-ride' use of their full internet plan; though some users are still using parts of it. With each ROM upgrade, it gets harder. Good luck!

Yeah, you do. I tried a couple of different ROMs and none worked until I paid the $40 CND to unlocked my phone with imeicheck service. I was a little nervous at first, but it all worked out very well. In fact I switch back and forth ROMs just for the hell of it. It's fun fooling with this stuff. The Russian Rom worked nicely, expect I couldn't get the DTAC GPRS to work here in Thailand. I switched back to WM5, (Asia ROM) and wrote down all the info for the DTAC GPRS provide by the Network Wizard, (a program lacking in the WM6 Russ. ROM) and reinstalled the Russ. ROM again. I entered all the data manually but it still never worked. I'll try again this weekend. Thanks to the helpful threads of this site, I did manage to get my keyboard mapping straighten out. Cheers

Voice Command is an option that providers can choose to include in their ROMs if they want to; they pay a lisencing fee for it. T-Mobile paid for it, sounds like HTC didn't. Personally, it's one of the first things I disabled as it uses a ton of RAM when loaded -- and the device becomes sluggish. I think it's more a feature for a 400-mhz or higher device. If they don't include it, you can purchase it on your own -- or -- probably 'find' it somewhere...

I just tried it on my S621 from Centennial Wireless, but it didn't work. I go the invalid device id also. I'm pretty sure it's unlocked, and it's not branded in any way. I can't find any difference from my device to the regular S620. Any ideas?

I'm on centennial also and it is cid locked i paid the 38.00 and then was able to upgrade 38 dollars well spent....

I installed the Russia ROM again yesterday and make some more adjustments. I'm pleased to say it's working great! I got my internet and e-mail working fine. My keyboard is set up to match my phone's keypad and all my preferred apps are running with no problem. I can't see the HTC official MW6 ROM, (if it ever comes out) being any better then this.

Hi, I'm not quite sure what you mean in your statement and I have no doubt you may be right, however, all I know is, that I just executed the Russia ROM program and it installed fine. If I upgraded the bootloader, I did it without knowing! Cheers

Tanthong, What I would suggest you do, before you flash you ROM, is make sure you write down all you GPRS and Proxy info. You may need to enter this data manually as the Russia ROM doesn't have a network wizard. If you have a C720W like mine you will also need eT9.Excalibur.0409.kmap.txt to make sure you key mapping id correct. I seen a threads discussing changing the values in the reg for the keyboard lang, but I don't know what that's about. I just installed the eT9.txt and all worked fine. Just remember, the phone will start in Russia after flashing. Not to worry, just press the "start" key go to the setting icon and press more, (#7) then press #5 and the top field is the language field. Change it the language of your liking and press the "Done "key. Don't forget to reboot! You may want to practice this while you still have you old ROM installed. The last setting I played with to get my e-mail and internet working was the "Advanced" setting. You will find it when you are on the connection page down in the right hand corner under "Menu". Good Luck!

@da_mayhem,

Are you using a Dopod C720W? I can't seem to downgrade SPL to 1.11 because I have SPL 1.15 installed from the official ROM. Were you able to downgrade it or do you have a TMO Dash?

Hi cyriljp. I am using a T-Mobile Dash. I believe you need to CID Unlock your device first before you can downgrade the bootloader thru that..CID Unlock your device here www.imei-check.co.uk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/www.imei-check.co.uk)

Unfortunately, there is still no free way to CID Unlock an Excalibur.

i tried all the mothods hereforementioned to upgrade my T-Mobile Dash to Russian version but unsuccessful. I did the bootloader upgrade/downgrade then flashed the new Rom (fixed with Hex Editor) but still no success.
perhaps it's because I have Dash and not HTC s620?
please lemme know what i did wrong. I really want this version.

Thanks a million

I swear, the phone support from HTC is getting less and less informed. I just called their "hotline" and the gentleman told me to register on HTC's website to find out if there is an update for the S620. I explained to him that I've seen the site, and he said that if I don't see it there then no update exists. Makes sense, right? :)

I guess that August 17th date was a hoax.

UPDATE: i just had a talk with htc phone support. apparently the guy i spoke to said he doesn't even know the release date for WM6 - and he even said it's in the process that the engineers are testing it still. also, he said if it were to be released, it'd be released through the carrier (i.e. rogers for me). he asked me to keep checking on the provided address:

www.america.htc.com

Good Luck !

p.s: i still hope it wasn't a hoax and it actually releases tommorow. we all have been waiting too long for this !

What bothers me about that response is that I told the phone support guy that I'm using a HTC S620 purchased from MobilePlanet. It's not branded (except for HTC logos).
