Hi I just got the phone today and have been reading posts on this forum.
I have a couple of questions.

1. I used to have 8125 and the way to change right volume was on the side of the phone now 8525 has a scroll weel there how can i change the ringht volume or atleast to vibrate with a button without going into setings?

2. Is there a way to use the GPS? From what I understand all phones have GPS but we just can't use it for navigation only the cops can use it?

3. I see that you guys are using all kinds of roms on your phones, please sugest the best one or top rated or the one u think is most stable?

4. So far my plan is to: Upgrade the ROM, Install a different comm manager (to set the phone to one network), What other sugestions do you have?

Thank You all
I appreciate any help.

With GPS you need to buy a bluetooth GPS receiver and some navigation software, I would recommend TomTom. With the volume just tap the volume icon in the top bar and you can adjust the volume or you could use Comm manager switch to vibrate etc.

I understand you can use PGS receiver but isent there a GPS build into the phone already? From what I read by law all US cell phones must have GPS build in for the police (maybe it was never done)?

Also for the volume I understand how to do it manualy but isent there a way to use the scroll weel or another buton ?

Thanks

When in a call the scroll wheel adjusts volume and also in certain other programs like windows media player.

As regards the best ROM. There is no correct answer to that question. They are all slightly different with different features. Some folknprefer one with as little as possible added to give speed of operation, others want particular features added that they use a lot.

You will have to read, read, read on the upgrading forum. The assumption on the upgrading forum is that you will have read a lot before asking questions. If you decide to upgrade then I recommend using Mrvanx guides to do it unless you are certain of what you are doing. He is a member here but you can google mrvanx also.

Thanks,
I did read and read and read for like 3 hours yesturday and I know the options and where to find info on how to do it my questions are more forcused on helping me make the decision on which of the 1000 things that i read I should do to my phone.

On the sound Issue, Like i am about to walk into a meeting and i want to turn the volume down to vibrate on 8125(wizard) it was a move of a finger i didnt even have to take the phone out of my poket. How can i do the same on 8525 (hermes) ? I understand I can tap on the sound icon or go into comm manager but I want to do it with a button?

You said that Roms are different with how many fitures they have? how can i find out which rom has which features is there a comparison chart somewhere?

Thanks A lot

For the vibrate toggle search for Commtoggle-vibrate-fix.cab works great.
As for good ROMs, you'll just have to try several - it seems that even though the hardware is EXACTLY the same, different ROMs work better on some hardware than others. Also different ROMS work better with the software you like to install than others.
Definitely use MrVanx guides. I'd suggest trying Custels ROMs (cingular oriented), Black Majik, VP3G (cingular optimized), Legolas' and Faria.
Personally I'm running Black Majik currently, it's just setup more how I like it by default.

Agree with PKLEY; the Commtoggle-vibrate-fix.cab works very will with the 8525; once installed, just hold the Comm mgr button for sec. or so and the phone switches to vibrate (and will vibrate and show a vibe icon); to return to normal ring, hold the comm button once more. I use it frequently without problems on both my 8525's

Hi,

I did a search of xda-developers.com and can't find the Commtoggle-vibrate-fix.cab. Tried google and that didn't help either.

Help!

Thanks,

DJ-Nitro,

Thanks....

I think the above posters had a slightly confused name. Not Comtoggle-vibrate-fix.cab, real name is CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix.cab!

They were close though... LOL

Another place to find it, and most other helpful cabs, is HERE (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes_Cabs). Especially good is DeStefano's Cab Collection

Enjoy!

just wanted to give my 2 cents also. i also have an 8525 and i did basically what another member already suggested: downloaded several ROMs and installed each one on the phone and played with it for a while until i found which one i liked the best (settled on v3pg). each of them has its own highs and lows. just have to play around.
