View Full Version : Official WM6 has broken my TomTom PLUS subscription

guys,
I upgraded to the official ANZ WM6 ROM, and it has changed my TomTom device ID which means I now cannot use the Traffic service (I already changed the device a few months back when I bought my Trinity).
I mailed TT support and they say then need a letter from my phone manufacturer explaining that the internal device ID has changed with the new ROM. TomTom base their device ID on the internal device ID (according to their support folks).
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Can anyone point me to an article or suggest a way to get some info from Dopod, HTC, or Microsoft about what WM6 does regarding device ID?
Thanks in advance.

Don't feel that bad :) It happened to me too. I contacted Tomtom guys and they were happy to give me a new code. But guess what, if you happen to do a hard reset and reinstall Tomtom, the code changes again. When I contacted Tomtom about this issue they said the following:
Dear Gilbert,
Thank you for contacting TomTom support regarding the difficulty that you are experiencing trying to install NAVIGATOR 6 on your PDA. We are glad to assist!
The new NAVIGATOR 6 is compatible with Windows mobile 6, although, it is not compatible with your HTC P3600. If you decide to install NAVIGATOR 6 on your HTC P3600 you may keep experiencing problems that we might not be able to assist you with. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Thank you again for contacting us, if you have any further questions or comments, please e-mail or call us at 1-866-486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 7 pm EST.
Remember that at TomTom we believe in showing you the way, the easy way.
Best Regards,
TomTom support

How lovely. I am already pissed about this as I cannot use my device with the current version for the Trinity.

thanks Gilbert- but that's terrible! I've had quite a few problems with TT6 going wrong on my P3600. Even when I downloaded the specific 6.03 revision.
At least you got somewhere with TomTom.
Do you have a support number I could give to them (as reference) by any chance?
cheers

I have Orange SPV M700 branded version of the Trinity which I bought off ebay & unlocked using tools available on this site & loaded the HTC 3600 rom. I loaded my existing TTN6 & had to reactivate but all went well as I was past 6 months since the 1st activation.
Anyway its been less than a month & I've now loaded the Dopod WM6 onto my phone but couldn't activate TTN6 due to new device code. I emailed TomTom on Thursday saying that I updated my Dopod D810 to official Dopod WM6 update. They emailed me new activation code today & all is working fine.

The Dopod ROM has a bug that changes the TTN Device Code; the other ROM's, official or otherwise don't seem to have the bug.
Once the new ROM is installed, the new Device Code ought to remain the same, even after a hard reset, but there will be problems if you later upgrade/downgrade the ROM, because the DC will probably revert back to the original one.
I've gone SPV M700 Orange -> HTC WM5 Official -> Mun-Rus WM6 SE and TE -> Dopod Beta WM6 (changed Device Code) -> Mun-Rus TE (Device Code reverted to original)
TomTom did offer me a new Activation Code, but required a copy of the device proof of purchase, and it took 2 weeks, so I reverted to the Mun-Rus ROM.
Your previous Device/Activation codes will all be visible on ttcode.com as long as you have your map Product Code so changing back to the original Device Code is OK for activating the maps. The problem is that even if you can reactivate the maps, TomTom Home will not let you revert to an older device association on your account, so even if TTN6 works, TT Home will not.
There is currently no fix for this- TomTom Support say they don't allow regression of account associations in TT Home.
For these reasons I've now abandoned TomTom in favour of iGO2006

Great another reason for not going down the Dopod ROM way.

It is not just TT... WM6 upgrade changes the Code of all my applications :(

Another way to approach it: each hard reset lets you download a new city map ;-)

It is not just TT... WM6 upgrade changes the Code of all my applications :(
There are a number of methods for generating device codes- based on IMEI, Owner Name, Device Name and other, deeper methods!
A lot of my programs have a new device code with each ROM, but the developers generally issue a new license without problems.
The trouble with TomTom is that previously, the Device Code has remained the same through all ROM updates, and they have linked their antipiracy policies to that. The recent problem with TT and device code changes has meant they have been caught off guard, and initially refused to do anything about it. I think the attitude is beginning to change, with the release of an 'official ROM' that changes the Device Code, but they still can't (or won't?) handle reverting your TT Home account to an older Device Code.

Hey guy! Don't sweat it! My TomTom works perfectly in WM6. How reassuring does that make you feel? Probalby very little if any! So don't sweat it! Just try updating your TomTom here:

It worked for me, and don't forget to give credit and possibly a donation to Luigi for making this all possible!

Hey Guys! Thanks for this. Athena user strayed here and stumbled upon this. What a relief. I was about to pour out some invectives on TomTom.Wrote to them almost 3 weeks ago and got the same response as others above. Thanks for sharing. By the way who is Luigi;)
I have 3 subscriptions of TT, but It looks like they don't appreciate their genuine customers:(

Here is the link to where you can find Luigi's Rom page. Believe it or not his page was banned because he wasn't able to write in English! Now his page is used for "informational" purposes!

guys thanks, BUT a few points.
1) My TomTom works fine- it is TomTom TRAFFIC which doesn't.
2) I really want an official HTC ROM (and anyway don't fancy resetting it again!).
3) My Italian is not so good, so it would need to be English ;-)
For these reasons I need TomTom to add my new device code to my account.
It's coming up to 10 days since I logged the call- I've had lots of responses, asking for a letter of proof, and saying it has been reset (but it still doesn't work).

Not exactly. No-one was banned. The thread has been closed because this person was just ignoring again and again the rules of this forum.

perhaps i don't understand the thread , but why have you write to tomtom ?

hi - you can only change the device code ONCE every 6 months.
Then you have to write to support.
I bought my Trinity a few months back, and changed from my M600....

Shame? Why? I'm one of those guys!
Are you saying that because you updated to the earlier release you can't now flash the new one? If so, let me know what exact issues you have as it's definitely do-able!
If you are referring to the TomTom changed device code not allowing you to re-register your legitimate copy of the app. then do not worry as this new release gives you back your ORIGINAL device code as per when you had WM5 on the phone... so your re-install of TomTom just either works from scratch or lets you re-register at ttcode.com, depending on how you re-install the app. in the first place.
Hope this helps.

Hi all,
The *new* (3/Aug/07) WM6 Dopod WWE ROM Release fixes the TomTom Device Code bug!
Happy to hear, but what was the cause?
Now we have to explain to TomTom what happened to the device, but DOPOD / HTC haven't released an announcement why the device id changed, have they?

Happy to hear, but what was the cause?
We may never know... My guess is that HTC decided to get clever with some of their security routines within the new Rom... code which TomTom must have used to calculate their "device code" that they use for s/w activiation purposes! Witness what HTC are also doing by frigging with IPL/SPL etc. on their new Roms. Unfortunately, I think, this time HTC frigged around too much and knackered the TomTom thing by mistake!
Now we have to explain to TomTom what happened to the device...
No m8! Believe me, TomTom *know* already what's been happening. Before I re-flashed this new version of the official Rom, TomTom were only too happy to give me a couple of new Activation Codes by email when I asked them to... Even though it must have been a right pain-in-the-arse for them to have to do!
...but DOPOD / HTC haven't released an announcement why the device id changed, have they?
They are probably too embarrassed I'd say! Idiots!! Talk about quality control!

I have all the keys ... sure because they are legal.
But when your DEVICE ID changes .... you've got to change the activation code and the DEVICE ID on the website of TomTom.
You can only do that once every 6 months. It's ok when it's based on the IMEI-number, that's only depends on the hardware. Changing hardware every 6 months should be enough for the regular user.
When you've flashed AX3L -> DOPOD 3.00.707.17 -> mUn INDIGO -> DOPOD 3.00.707.18 -> INDIGO again etc. then you've had 4 changes of the DEVICE ID. Since they released .17 it's messed up, not for the illigal TomTom users but for the legal ones!

guys can someone post explicitly which new WM6 ROM fixes the device ID changing problem?
There are 2 or 3 ROMs mentioned in that thread- SEA and DopodASIA (also ANZ).
Unless the DopodASIA one is the SEA ROM....

dammit. I just upgraded to the "updated" RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.00.707.18_6275_1.46.30 .11_108_Ship 2007 ROM, and it had maintained the new device ID (i.e the one which Traffic will not work for).
So Traffic will still not work. Plus Dopod support say I need to contact Europe for a note about the ROM problems.
So maybe this ROM stops the device ID changing between hard resets, but it still has changed the device ID from previous WM6 ROMS.
And now I have to spend ages reinstalling all my software again!
