Can I ask what you did to stop it incessantly trying to establish a data connection when there is NO signal? Yours does not do this, but the 'official' one does and was a serious problem.

Ok, turns out this issue is related to Windows Live and occurs on both the AT&T 'official' and VP3G's ROM.

When Windows Live email is set to 'push' sync, this causes the phone to continuously try to establish a data connection even if there is NO signal. For example, in the subway.
It renders the phone unusable until you get a signal, or turn off the radio fully.
Annoying.

Can PTT be remapped or is it hardwired like WM5 versions? If so does the WM5 work around work (though I doubt you've tested this since judging by your message you use PTT!) :D

yes, and it works fine. if you're cooking your own, grab the "Disable PPT" package from my kitchen download. You'll need the dll to make it work (note there is another fix out there, not sure what it entails)

I have my 8525 unlocked to t-mobile. How do I know what version of WM do I have? Is it WM5 or WM6? If I have WM5 and I use "official cingular" WM6 upgrade, Is it going to work?

Happened to me too. Suggest that this solution be put in to the wiki. I have seen other solutions posted, this seems to be the simplest.

I had that happen on the 3 8525's I upgraded. Removed the PDA from the AS cable and put it into bootloader mode (Hold OK and Power Button and soft reset) Reboot the PC and reattach the PDA to the cable, run the upgrade utility.

I installed the upgrade to WM6 as described in this thread. That worked fine. Then I restored a backup that I had created under WM5 and now I've got problems.

When the device boots, it says that it is trying to load PlusService.dll, which is untrusted. It asks if I want to continue. I'd be happy to say no, but the device is locked up at this point. You can't say yes or no, or do anything else for that matter.

Is there a way to start the device without loading any dll's at startup?

Thanks.

- Jeff

Hard reset and DO NOT use backups. Simple. Back-ups lead to problems, known fact. Read the forums and you shall see.

Yes, very simple. Restoring all programs and data is not so simple, unfortunately.

Hey PostDeals, you are a man of about 64 questions (currently). ;)

Try the ROM out. See if you like it. If you do, great! If not, try another.

Good luck! :)

Hello,

Last week, I upgraded to the Windows Mobile 6 ROM for my AT&T 8525, and I noticed a keyboard "bug" of some sort. Often when I am on a phone call I slide out my keyboard to type e-mails, or jot down notes, etc. I noticed that whenever I'm on a call, I can't type the letters "T, Y, U, I, H, J, K, V, B, N, M, or the period" These are the letters that correspond to
" 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,*,# " when you press them simultaneously with the funtion key. I can still type these letters if I use the on-screen keyboard, but not with the hardware keyboard. And again, this issue only occurs while on a call, and when I hang up, everything goes back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this problem? And does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? It's very annoying...other than that the WM6 ROM is a wonderful upgrade! :-)

Thanks

I installed this ROM on my ATT 8525. Every thing went well. But the problem I am facing is it's very very slow. All the applications are very slow. After soft reset I have 20 mb ram. I am using Iguidance 3.0 it was working fine on windows mobile 5 and now on windows mobile 6 it's taking lot of time to launch and the voice is very slow.

Even after closing the applications (from running programs in memory) I don't get back all the ram unless I soft reset.

Does any one have the same issue? Is there any update to this Rom since available here? Is there any better version ROM which uses less memory??

I am using the following version,

Hey guys, I’m pretty new at this and I’ve been read a lot of threads about upgrading to wm6. I've also looked at some of cooked ROMs. I heard various things about Vp3g's and Black's which I heard are good ROMs. But my real concern is ... do I have to make my phone a SuperCID/Sim Unlocked phone first? From what gather, if I do that it voids the warrenty on the phone and if it breaks from then on ... I’m on my own. And does my current ROM w/radio and protocols prevent me from being able to update to wm6 ROM?

Hello. I've just installed this new rom. It's got a couple of caveats: you'll need to install ActiveSync 4.5 if you're on a XP SP2 machine, as my brand new phone came with 4.2 or 4.3, also I couldn't get the rom installer to install if I had an active connection with activesync even though it said that I needed to have one.

I have a similar issue. Just got a referb 8525 (my first "smartphone") a few days ago. it was an older ROM. I tried to update with the update ROM on the HTC site and now this one. Neither would go through.

one of two things happens:

2. WHen I hit the update button the phone backlit goes off (as if in sleep mode) and it losses it connection.

That happened to me with my first AT&T flash. It was because I was doing it wrong. I was following the on-screen directions about when to do activesync but they're wrong.

This is what you do. You connect the phone, let it ActiveSync. Once that's done. Run the update all the way to the end. It'll disconnect ActiveSync (you'll see the icon disappear), the phone will go into bootloader mode (3 colors) and it'll start flashing.

The key is to do ActiveSync *before* running the update, and then launch the update after ActiveSync is done synchronizing.

They are not going to answer us because I finally figured out the solution. Our phone's CID have to be unlocked for the Flash update to continue. In a lot of the forums, if your question is answered elsewhere, more than likely you will not get a response back from anyone; due to them feeling that our questions are stupid. But yeah, I did my research and found the solution. I'm not going to do the update b/c the 8925 comes out in a few weeks, so Im not going to go thru the hassle of paying to get the phone unlocked. And neither should you, b/c AT&T will put a "real" official update on the site in about 2 weeks. So good luck.

It was on my phone for about 5 hours and it worked great. I went to work later that day and talked to a coworker who has my same phone. I talked to him about it and he said that since it is a cooked ROM, AT&T will not replace it if it bricks. In the time that I had it, I had no problems.

I just wanted to find out, has anyone's phone bricked or given them problems?
I'm thinking about reinstalling that WM6 ROM because AT&T is taking FOREVER to release the "Official" WM6 upgrade from their site.

Thank you.

I don't think they no one wants to help, its just that the answer is out there and it doesn't need to be repeated 100's of times. Personally if you don't feel comfortable following the directions then you shouldn't be flashing your phone, because then you may brick it and be out a few hundred $$$. Either way you can flash it fairly saftly if you follow the directions here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners.

We have installed RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3_1_.57.502.1_6275_1.48.00 .00_108-ATT-MR3_Ship.exe on our Cingular 8525.

Overall it seems to work, however we have 2 issues with it.

1) The Turn Flight Mode On/Off is no longer there
2) Every time we use the internet sharing, the Vista can no longer recognize the USB connected 8525. We either has to clear the device memory or re-install the Windows Mobile Device Center to before we can do any thing.

We are using Vista Business Edition and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.6965 (which we believe is the latest version)

Is there a fix for this problem? Because of issue #2 we had to roll back to WM5 as we can not use the phone in internet sharing mode.

For those who are intested, we also have noticed the following minor issues.

1) When using color scheme other than AT&T, we noticed that the Phone colors do not match the Color Theme of the device. for example you end up with green Theme but Blue phone buttons
2) Windows Mobile Device Center syncs via USB are exteremely slow when compared to WM5
3) Bluetooth based syncs are not working.

We hope the above helps. We look forward to hearing from someone on the issues to see if there is a new version that fixes them.

Thanks

Hi,
I just upgraded my Hermes ATT 8525 from WM5 to this CINGULAR WM6 version which I downloaded off of rapidshare site:

WM6 Cingular USA version (same as the official but cingular customized and radio version 1.48) thanx madcap180

Everything is working great, the upgrade was smooth and I was able to get all my data back and all that except for the WIFI connection.
I am able to connect to my Home Wireless Secured Network (SSID), and it shows that it is connected and has almost all the green bars showing excellent signal quality, but when I try to use Messenger or Internet explorer, it doesnt work. I am not sure why? Is it trying to connect using GPRS or cingulars Internet connection? If so, how do I fix it so that It connects using my home wireless connection. I do not subscribe to ATT/Cingulars Internet data plan etc,...

Any help will be greatly appreciated.... thanks

Hi,
I just upgraded my Hermes ATT 8525 from WM5 to this CINGULAR WM6 version which I downloaded off of rapidshare site:

WM6 Cingular USA version (same as the official but cingular customized and radio version 1.48) thanx madcap180

Everything is working great, the upgrade was smooth and I was able to get all my data back and all that except for the WIFI connection.

I am pretty sure you have to disable the proxy. You should find this option in either the Programs or Settings section of your phone. I had this problem as well and that fixed it for me.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I just dont have patience read all 56 pages in this topic...
Where exactly is the official update rom? I see the link to rapidshare...its not what I'm after.
The one that I could find from att.com (it actualy redirects to htcamerica.net) is WM5.

V@no.... The problem is this is just the official version, not the official official version, which is not officially out yet. When its double official, AT&T and HTC will officially post it. Do what I do- lurk around until things somewhat make sense.

Also keep in mind that htc and or att will never release the newest and greatest update official wm6 rom
only here you would find the latest and greatest!!

Ok, now it got even more confused...if they are not going to release it, then why do they make it at all?
and about "official official" - that just doesn't make sence...

Thanks Duper00 for your tips...

I disabled proxy settings and it now works great.....

Here is how to disable PROXY settings for those having the same problem:

Click Start -->> Programs -->> Proxy Manager -->> Then Click Disable Proxy Icon, and that should take care of the problem....

I have just bought a new AT&T 8525 HTC unlocked phone but realized I bought it with Mobile 5. Where can I get Mobile 6 Pro to put on it and if I do find it does it have to be a special version since mine is unlocked. I live overseas where they don't have AT&T/Cingular.

Thanks

ok i read through every post on this thread and I didnt see anything about this problem. If so I am sorry.

Anyways, I put this "official" version on my phone and i love it. But, I tried to change my text message alert to something other than the default one, but when i change it and hit ok it goes to a different setting. I go see if text is still changed and it is back to its default ring, too. It wouldnt bother me, but its annoying. If anyeone could help me out I would appreciate it.

I have the newest AT&T 8525, and I downloaded a file today named RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00 _108_Ship.exe... Turns out I already HAVE this ROM image!

Did I download the wrong file?
WHERE CAN I GET the **REAL** Windows Mobile 6 (WM6) for my phone??

Is it even available yet?

All serious answers extremely welcomed. My staff and I are very anxious
to have this new OS...No, but rumor has it that it may be released on 10/19. Without even seeing it, though, I say with confidence that XDA members have been producing far better ROMs for many months now.

Oh, and just in case there's any doubt, this is a "serious answer".

ATT will only produce a ROM half as good as the ROM cooks at XDA and VP3g is one of the best Hermes cooks out there , if it is a matter of warrenty then turn grey waiting on ATT and if it is about a ROM that will handle your needs and give you control of your device that you paid a lot of money for then read a lot and then pick one of the great ROM's by VP3g,schaps ,austinsync and many other great cooks at XDA as you will have a lot better support here than at ATT.:D

OK, I'm downloading what seems to be one of the "WM6" files from your "Mirror" sites... It's a .RAR file... pardon a dumb question (I'm just trying to be sure), but I need something like "WinRAR" to unpack it, right?

And pardon me for the "serious answers" thing... I just meant that I didn't need anybody chiming in with derogatory or smart-alecky replies... We're a business and we're just trying to get this Task off our plates... THANKS.

Just so you know, I am no pro at this unit. I just got mine, but I like the latest greatest on my machines, so I found this place. I downloaded the installer, the package is really simple and self explanitory. So, just sit back, the download (pending on which mirror you are using) may be limited, so you may have to wait (I waited 10 mins), but it is well worth it. Beware however, you will lose everything not on the SD, so make sure you take care of business first. Took me 4 days to find this forum, 25 minutes to re-rom my machine...it was well worth it.:)

Just an observation on the "official" ROM from HTC to AT&T. I.E. not the cusotmized one by vp3G that this thread turned into covering (which I am going to play with next as it sounds awesome).

A few observations:
Installation by the use of the EXE was as easy as a regular released ROM, and I came from the latest released AT&T WM5 ROM. The only thing that raised an eyebrow was that the installer did not detect the current version on my phone properly (it was blank as to the current version).

I have noticed that the sounds were changed in this version. For instance in WM5 I would get clicks for things done on the menu of items, but not necessarily if it was a hardware click, nor a click on the screen in general. This new WM6 version seems to devide clicks into those done by the hardware buttons, and ANY "soft" click on the screen. I have played with the sound settings and can't seem to get them back to only occuring when I remember them occuring in WM5, but I could be not remembering right. I think there was a post eariler in this thread about this subject, but after 50 something pages I can't remember for sure.

The sound coming out of the ear peace seems to be softer even at full volume, but even then I could be having a clogged up ear today.

MSFT has moved some menu options around, such as how you delete messages in Outlook, so I am getting used to the new interface. Otherwise there is nothing earth shattering in the WM6 AT&T implementation that makes it a difficult switch. :)

So... This ROM is definitely not the "final" product that will be coming from AT&T (one hopes) because it is not finished. Applications that were contained in the last "released" WM5 ROM are not all here such as Remote Desktop/Terminal Services Client.
All in all I wasn't too dissapointed, but I am really looking forward to vp3G's WM6 implementaiton.

And a few comments to all the "regular users" of this website:
I am a pretty IT savy person, but let me tell you that it isn't always easy to find what you are looking for on this website.
1.You cannot use the quick "search" function in the top right of the screen because it will tell you that you didn't answer the anti-SPAM question correctly. So you have to used the Advanced view so you can type in the anti-SPAM answer before you do your search. That is a little counter intuitive to me.
2. When you do get a search to occur, there is so much data on this website, that it returns a LOT of threads that end up taking hours to sift through. Then... maybe... you might find what you were searching for.
3. And for those that say to use the WIKI, there is a TON of information there. Often times people are looking for the needle in a hay stack, and it is in the WIKI, but it isn't obvious to them where. Those of you who use this website daily (something I don't have the luxury to do) should remember you know where 90% of the info is already because you are on here all the time. The first time I went looking for something that "was in the WIKI", it took me HOURS to find it. That was like a year ago, and the WIKI has gotten even bigger since then it seems.

So please be patient with those of us who don't ask for the 400th time in the same thread how to make Wi-Fi work. :D I read all 50 pages of this thread before I even upgraded, just to make sure I didn't miss anything and understood what issues other people ran into first. Still I get the feeling if I posted a question on something that was covered in another thread, I might get flamed for it (that is my impression).
Remember we are all human beings with various skill sets and aptitudes that all put our pants on the same way. And I agree that people should put in some effort before asking the easy questions, but... there is no reason to flame people unless they are repeat offenders. :)

Thanks to everyone for making this an awesome website with tons of information (sometimes overwhelming). I really appreciate the effort everyone puts into sharing information, help, and especially those mad ROM cookers like vp3G.

You can find that Fubar setting by going to Settings/Connections/USB to PC

I tried that already and it didnt work with just that setting change. I had to uninstall the unrecognized usb driver from my device manager along with that setting and it worked. Stupid vista/WM6 I just installed a cooked rom and its far superior to the at&t one. ... and yes it did it again after that rom update too.

You don't need a reg key. Start menu>Settings>About>Device ID tab.

Every time you flash your device will default to the default name, usually something like WMDevice. If that name is already used when you sync with activesync, activesync will rename your device with another name. WM_Heather1 probably comes from your wife's windows login name.

That is, unless your wife's name isn't Heather. Then I suppose you had some explaining to do.;)

Well I was trying to get the official ROM file and the old US HTC site has being redesigned. Yes you can directly run it, but it will also install radio! if you do not want the radio, then you would have unpack and install OS and ExtROM. To me, this is just waste of time, just cook a WM6 ROM for yourself!
