has anyone been able to run any of the MIDlet managers? I installed the INTENT and tried the TAO but neither will run. I can install and then when I try to run, the circle spins for half a second and stops. I checked the TASK MANAGER to see if it was in background, but it was not. Thanks

im wondering is there any way that you can raise the default clock that is is set by the rom? like say from 195 - 220?
Strongly againts this idea, not all the time we need high clock speed, especially to conserve battery, use OMAP clock

Same here, let's keep the clock cool enough to get the better battery life.
Some tools like Tornado Power Control can be installed afterward for specific needs.

Really cool !!
It's still a work in progress (because the right menu doesnt seems to work) but it's a hugh plus for the ROM.
However I noticed the last CommManager won't switch on/off the VoIP part (even if the top bar displays the VoIP icon when connected)
I wonder too if we could tweak the CommMgr to launch this tool when Menu / IPPhone is choosen.

While I flashed my phone with original orange ROM some time ago I noticed that few files could be deleted/overwritten (few images, branding stuff, folders etc).
And here is question to our cookers.
Is there any chance to modify files which are originally read only (ROM) to become editable?
It would be very useful to modify buttons shortcut or maybe even make vanilla by deleting unnecessary files.

Skype has nothing to do with SIP (which is the most common open VoIP protocol)
If you want skype, just install Skype's client ;)

I expect this ROM to have around 24mb storage by the time it is complete :)
Many of you will probably asking, why are the build numbers so low compared to the other WM6 ROMs? My answer: I'm working on getting the ROM fully fuctional before doing fancy stuff like upgrading the XIP, kernel, AKU whatever. Those subsequent releases will be known as V2, V3 etc.

Well, you can expect workaround in the future. Windows Live Messenger can communicate with Yahoo Messenger. It is limited to text only today, but voice capabilities are planned. AFAIK they should work this year. http://messengersays.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!5B410F7FD930829E!18718.entry
And Fring already supports Windows Live Messenger.

Hey, realy great that someone started this!
Gonna try it as soon as it reaches beta.
2 quick questions:
Will WM6 enable SDHC support on the Tornado?
Which version of TCPMP do you include?
I'm running 0.81 atm which afaik is the last pre-commercial build and the only non-commercial one which has the equalizer working for .aac (and other) files. It was an "internal" release but since I've been using it for months I can confirm that it's completely stable. (I've attached it, in case the builders (or anyone else for that matter) wants it. Aint no installer, just unzip and put it into your storage card, then make a shortcut (or simply overwrite your current tcpmp installation and keep using the old shortcut).)
Cheers!

30th July 2007, 08:22 PM
I guess SDHC support is strictly hardware related... So I would say WM6 wouldnt help

Isnt "STK services" offered from your SIM directly ? (so no need to have it in ROM nor Storage Card)

So IT'S possible to run on actual Tornado hardware.. all we need is those SDHC drivers ..
Because I've done many requests in vain (!!! for eg: to include another joystick driver) I've managed to modify (at least.. after more than 20 flashes) the ROM, included the joystick driver from orange uk aku 2.0 rom (spv c600). now the joystick moves smoother ;). Now I'm trying to include the SD driver from iphone rome which is better. When I'm done I will open a new thread with the ROM for the interested ppl. It does have included also the old good calculator, commanager for spv c600 (thx hoyler30589!). Removed windows live and office (which is downloadable as separate cabs already).
Free precious Storage: ~19MB
Free RAM: ~24-25MB

Anyway, i *really* appreciate his work, without his work we wouldn't have so soon WM6 on our lovely Tornados. And i think that also the chinnese WM6 roms are based on jm012a9749's build. So many thanks goes to him and all the ppl who made this possbile (authors of the rom tools, etc) :D

AFAIK my ROM DID have the AKU2 joystick driver... I will double check again for the next build tho.
Updates for people:
STK will be included as an extra
Arcsoft MMS 4.0.40.1 will be an extra (MMS itself takes up 4mb of space, 4mb wasted if, like me, you hardly use mms)
French Langpack will also be included (thanks to zati :))
It's not too late for somebody to make a spanish lang pack btw ;)
@ ericjm - If you have some camera software I can LEGALLY put in the ROM then please post it.
Again, sorry for my absence lately, I haven't got much time with jury service these past 2 weeks :(

the filesize is the same, but if you'll open with winhex you will see some differences.

also, the aku 2.0 rom has 2 extra entries in the registry for this driver.

Just tried this ROM on my Orange C600 and it works well. It also fixed another problem - I also have a M700 and the SIM in this phone never worked in the C600 due to a text message bug - Orange are aware of this and say it will never be fixed.
However, with this WM6 ROM the SIM works in my C600 :)

@ neof - If you want spanish, then you'll have to create your own, I don't have time or HDD space to go through all of the localised emulator images and extract the relevant files
Another small update, thanks to help from challhsu, I have removed the red lettering! REJOICE! :D

Format BINFS is so you dont have any crap left over from your previous ROM, like shortcuts etc as these will be left behind as this ROM is MUCH smaller than shipped ROMs being as I've removed all the crap and compressed the ROM

any clue on expected release date of the beta? please discard those rumors about your giving beta version to selected users only, or can we consider all the users of this forum as selected? ;-)

Ok, prolly should've made that a bit clearer, I will first give it to a couple of people only to test for around 24 hours, during which time any bugs I've missed will be noticed (I don't use my phone enough to do any REAL beta testing myself), if there are bugs, I will fix them, if there aren't, then I'll release there and then :D

Format BINFS is so you dont have any crap left over from your previous ROM, like shortcuts etc as these will be left behind as this ROM is MUCH smaller than shipped ROMs being as I've removed all the crap and compressed the ROM
Phil
do you know what does the format ALL command do? Will erase also the bootloader => bricked phone ?
In other words, bootloader is in DOC (DiskOnChip)? I'm very tempted.. But I don't really want to brick my phone
I've deleted lots of files (more than 10MB ..) from WM6 build and only ~17MB free space :|.. very strange...
glennza well, first i've dumped the rom then I've compiled (there is a dedicated topic for cooking).. but I recommand you to wait for jm012a9749's beta release.
edit: yes IPL, SPL and all those things are in DOC. Has someone tried "format ALL" via TerraTerm?

@viperz007 read my previous post :D. It has to be related with the keyboard/joystick driver..
----
I wanted to release a new very basic rom, with many programs dumped out, but i've give up for now (because of this freakin avaiable storage issue)..
so..
jm012a9749, if you want, i can provide you the following:
- registry values for fully decertify
- sim toolkit (from orange uk aku 2.0 rom)
- IR driver from iphone (i've allready attached in ir remote topic)
- joystick driver (allrady attached )
- IE registry hacks for allowing zip, exe, rar download.
- good old calculator (i like it because it loads very fast in memory)
Also, put this in the initflashfiles.dat for resolving the issue with FLASH SMS:
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("SmsClassZero.lnk","\Windows\SmsClassZerolnk")
You also may arrange the startmenu a bit (add some shortucuts.. for eg you have simManager but no shortcut in start menu, remove debug apps, etc )
Take a look at the one modified by me..

@DSF - If you could put all of your last post into a zip file for me somewhere that'd be great :) Also NEVER use the format ALL command, it WILL erase your bootloader and you'll just have a white screen to keep you company while the rest of us play with the WM6 beta in a few days :P

1. No Backgammon for the iMate folks. Should I have extracted that before flashing?
2. My AT&T network settings aren't picked up by default. Anyone know what they are? Looks like my permissions don't allow me to load the iMate setting versions via .cab. Do I need to application unlock my phone again after flashing or does WM6 have a security feature to prevent this? (never mind this one. I had an unlocking issue. I assumed the image was application unlocked.)
Ok, it looks like the iMate Backgammon game is one executable that will run without registry settings or .dlls.
But as to the second issue I am stumped. When I am in some AT&T service areas (recently in Valley County Idaho) the cingular settings for the phone see an old AT&T tower and think I am roaming. This of course prevents exchange sync among other problems. Anyone have any better Cingular settings than the iMate settings for Cingular for the Tornado?

has anyone been able to resolve the issue with the windows media keys not working?
Depends on how you want to use them. I've changed the mappings but I have them working just fine for what I want. Sorry I do not have the mappings for the Media player but I'm sure they can be found with a bit of google :)
I did a write-up a while back for how to do it...
http://justanothermobilemonday.com/Wordpress/2006/11/11/quick-tips-mapping-t-mobile-sda-shortcut-buttons/ (sorry if linking isn't allowed)
Basically, within the \windows directory you need to create a file for each button - Short_AP1 for the IE button, Short_AP2 for the rewind button, etc
Each file needs to contain a link to something... in a certain format. For example Short_AP1:
19#\Windows\iexplore.exe http://www.google.com
Hit the link I posted for more detailed info.

Can somone check the Vox rom and see what Registry Value is at HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS\Config\UI\Custimazation\Picker\CapturePicture and CaptureVideo.
I think/hope you will find the values witch controle the Options to capture a photo Or video.
Edit
Open the camera app. Make a picture and select the mail option and it will import the picture in the mms composer great.

Anybody managed to set up channels? For me it doesn't work.
I've just found out that channels do work if the language selection is not set to "All". Select your language and it works just fine! ;)

Depends on how you want to use them. I've changed the mappings but I have them working just fine for what I want. Sorry I do not have the mappings for the Media player but I'm sure they can be found with a bit of google :)
I did a write-up a while back for how to do it...
http://justanothermobilemonday.com/Wordpress/2006/11/11/quick-tips-mapping-t-mobile-sda-shortcut-buttons/ (sorry if linking isn't allowed)
Basically, within the \windows directory you need to create a file for each button - Short_AP1 for the IE button, Short_AP2 for the rewind button, etc
Each file needs to contain a link to something... in a certain format. For example Short_AP1:
19#\Windows\iexplore.exe http://www.google.com
Hit the link I posted for more detailed info.
yes i have each Short_AP shortcut, but when i click each button it does nothing except opens windows media player, it doesnt play, pause, fast forward, rewind, or anything.
for example on the play pause button, i need to figure out what command would come after:
19#"\Windows\wmplayer.exe"
i dont know if this command would be in the shortcut or if it would be somewhere in the registry

Hi!
Ive got an awkward problem with these wm6 roms.
Im using a bought version of Route 66 (most current version) for navigation. Its an application written in .NET CF. It works well under WM5 and under WM6 actually too but when i want to enter a destination i can type the name but i cannot use the backspace! (needless to say that in wm5 that was possible). Backspace works in SMS and such but just not in the textbox to enter a destination. Perhaps someone has a clue whats the cause of this.

im launching that keycode program and here are the results:
back/rewind button = Key 0xB3 (179)
xmacro=k179
Play/Pause button = Key 0xB0 (176)
xmacro=k176
next/forward button = Key 0xB6 (182)
xmacro=k182
i have tried to map media player with the media player buttons but it doesnt respond when i hold down the fast forward key, it only sees it as a press which makes it "skip" the song instead of "fast forward". ive even tried going into the registry and manually telling it which key is what. ive told it to fast forward when the fast fast forward key is held down but it still can only see it as a press.

yes i have, and you cant reley just get the vox rom working on the tornado cause even thou the proc's the same theres other chips that take diffrent calls, it would be alot easier working out the kinks and updating the tornado wm6 rom as needed.
btw: i can say that the htc audio manager from the vox works prety nicely
ps: i have ben trying to work on the wmp buttons thing and well im stumped, the only thing i can think of is that the problem lies somwhere on wmp's end and about the long pound press to go to silent mode... it wont work with the xt9, cause if you hold down pound you get the symbols page, so im sure there would be a conflict

phil is releasing a "pre beta" to some people for a couple of days and then the beta will be released.
from what i know from phil, and some approximations done, i guess the beta will be public by the end of the week or so.

Phil's will have more usable ram, letting larger apps to run better (ie TomTom/Route 66). Also he is increasing the page file size from 4mb to 6mb, which is why it looks like the storage size is the same.

jm012a9749
3rd August 2007, 09:19 PM
@hizard - No mine doesnt have WLM and office and MMS etc, because it is a vanilla build, not everybody uses those apps so I've left them out, for example, I never use office and rarely use MMS, in this build your free to choose what apps to install yourself instead of having crap you don't want. I will eventually be releasing 3 ROMs tho:
Vanilla
Standard
Fully Loaded
I'll disclose details of these when I've made up my mind as to what I'm going to put in them :P
@xsilverfox - Also the device runs fast with more free RAM, the key is striking the balance between page pool and free RAM, I've settled for a 7MB Page Pool, I've found this gives optimum performance, but fellow cookers, don't hesitate to experiment :D
@karhoe - Just the OS and a splash screen, the Radio Update is packaged separately for those who have not already updated their radio and to prevent unnecessary flashing for those of you who already have Radio 4.1.xxxx

If I copy the Backgammon game to my flash drive and then copy the .dll files that are mentioned are missing will iMate Backgammon run? How would I go about finding which registry settings were specific to that game?
I have noticed that Backgammon on the iMate SP5 is a single file called pGammon, that will run without any additional .dll files. I have also noticed that although the option settings will be saved if changed, that the application never shows up at the top of the start menu as a recently run application. Anyone know if there is a registry setting to enable that?
Also has anyone ever had the 'play online' function actually work?

Phil, do I need to use the IPL from your Alpha ROM? Cause my IPL an SPL are version 2, which came with AKU2 ROM
Please include these files in the extra folders if it works with WM6
ChargeViaUSB - Toggle charge via USB on or Off with a GUI instead of registry edit
SmartSS - A better tool to capture screenshot, WSYISYG image screenshot
SPWM5CallRec.cab - When running in background, all incoming calls and outgoing calls will be automatically recorded
Flashlite2_1_winmobile5_sp.cab - Utility to use your phone screen to show bright white, green, red, blue light at maximum brighteness. Useful during total darkness
CVC-SP-AME-Dopod-51215-BT - Cyberion Voice Commander, shortcut automatically mapped to left soft button long press
karhoe
4th August 2007, 04:17 AM
More files
VitoCopyPaste - when running in background, holding down the joystick button in a text field will give you the options to Cut, Copy, Paste, Select
CallfilterWm5 - can be used to selectively block specific contact from calling or SMS-ing you
Ateksoft.WebcameraPlus - Use your phone camera or screen output as webcam for your PC via ActiveSync or even WiFi, can also be used as a remote webcam for external IP
Resco Explorer - I think its better than Smart Explorer
All apps have been tested and working with WM5. However, there seems to be some conflict between VitoCopyPaste and AutomaticKeylock . AutomaticKeylock must be run before VitoCopyPaste or there will be a 'keyboard hook' error

I also never had such problem. I also used it for several months until I installed WLM.
WLM (Windows Live Messenger) starts up before the SD card is mounted, so since it doesn't find the \Storage Card\Inbox folder, it creates one folder with that name. When the SD card in mounted, it's renamed to Storage Card2.
I'm not sure if MS fixed this issue on the latest WLM release (I'm a WLM beta tester, but didn't try this on the latest beta release from 2weeks ago). So if you intend to use WLM, I'd suggest you not to store your e-mail in SD.

I am so looking forward to this rom! It's a pity that there is no access to that BETA yet.
I have a few questions though:
*When flashing that wm6 rom, does the process delete everything except the bootloader from the memory? Is it as efficient as possible - no old files are left?
*Why no Windows Update? Isn't it compatible?
*Is there a way to have Lithuanian T9 dictionary? I mean maybe it is possible to extract that T9 dictionary from, for example, nokia's rom (we get nokias with lithuanian t9s, so it exists)? Or at least to have lithuanian letters ąčęėįšųūž?
*Is there a way to make use of power led so it could blink faster if there is a pending sms/email or a missed call?
Oh, and if somebody has that beta, please, could you send it to me by e-mail (paulius[at]lithill.lt) or host it somewhere post a link here?
Thanks

When you Format BINFS, you remove the entire OS
No Windows Update , because Microsoft itself had not run the server yet
The included Automatic Keylock does it

Download TeraTermPro from the first post, read all the instruction, make sure you already SuperCID. Then choose USB port, and type info2, make sure it is SuperCID, then type format BINFS, then type resetdevice
Just follow the first post
Anyway, Phil, I would suggest you to make 2 version, one being the upgrade version from Alpha to Beta, which includes only the OS, where the other one is the clean BETA installation, which includes IPL, SPL, OS, Radio, Splash screen.
It can be done easily by nb2nbftool right?

its so hard to keep up with the thread lol. well what's effecting it then? in the .cab file that htcwmpplugin.dll was the only file included. so whats makes the wmp keys work then?

Well you were wrong :p Thought it would be amusing to see how many people tried to guess the BETA URL :D
ANyway, updates for you all, beta will probably be released around 10:00 GMT.
I will be starting a new thread for the ROM
There will be an OS upgrade and a GSM upgrade offered separately, there will also be around 15MB of extra software for you all to pick and choose what you want to install on your device. This ROM also includes a slightly modifed ROM Update Utility, I think you'll all like it ;)
I've already posted the change log, so any further questions on the ROM, please refer to that, it will tell you everything you need to know.
Now you've all just got to wait until tomorrow ;)

tejasphatak ive asked someone to post htcwmpplugin.dll and when i replaced it with the one included in the .cab file it still didnt fix it, its still the same.
Is this one from c600 rom.. I dont no but the current wm6 rom includes a different keyboard driver. that's why different keys are mapped to htcwmpplugin.dll . I need a rip of htcwmpplugin.dll from that specifc rom.

Just tried the Beta release and it's very good. The only problem I'm having is the battery life. The phone seems to run quite warm and is only lasting about half a day on batteries. Anybody else experiencing this?
grandmaster_b
6th August 2007, 02:07 PM
Thats because the CPU is stuck on 50% constantly hence the power drain, roll back to Alpha till the main man Phil sorts it out.
Only issues I have are CPU usage %50 which is big problem making the phone run slow and drain battery and the media player will not play MP4 files and a few others so if phil can fix this in the Beta 2 edtiion I think he is all done :)
I know some people are saying thay dont like the splash screens will IMO they look very nice so maybe a build with and without them to satisfy everyone :)

I have been using my SP5 now for over a year and to be honest it has relegated my Jammin to Navigation duty on my boat, I know that it has lots of faults but I really could not bare to party with it now, so I really hope that this upgrade reaches a usable state, as it will give my SP5 a lease of life, before I consider E baying it and buying a Vox as I do not like its form factor or looks as much as the SP5, but will probably go there eventually but would love to keep my sp5 for a bit longer yet.
So I would like to simply say thank you for all the hard work you have all put into this project, I think you guys are brilliant.

2 roms coming up soon:
phil's beta II, and andot's pure english version of his rom.
u will like at least one, if not both of them. andot's seems a lot more well put together at the moment and when he will remove chinese support and fix the fonts, it will be even better. i say u test the wwe version... it's pretty good.

I loaded the Alpha version on my Cingular 2125 and it's just AWESOME. I was shocked to see that everything worked that worked before (and when does that ever happen, with Alpha versions of anything). Even the smallest details, everything is flawless.
I've been running it for about a month now, using my proxy setup to get to the Web, running push Exchange for my e-mail, the Google maps Java app, and everything just works!!
Awesome. Now, about that Beta. Is that still happening? :-)

i installed this rom on my 2125 last night. a couple of problems i found were all pertaining to the radio and dialer.
i noticed when i dialed a number, it took forever to display, then the tone would play late. i disabled the tones and it works faster.
when running pmrecorder, i can send calls fine. but when i receive a call, i have no sound. the other person can hear me, but i cannot hear them.
when i make a call while edge is running, the call is delayed. infact, my wife will answer before i even hear the "call sent" tone. works fine when i disconnect edge prior to making the call.
arcsoft mms is no where to be found after installed.
other than that, my 2125 has never ran faster. great rom.

Phew! Read the whole thread, and I must say that the amount of work put into this ROM is nothing short of amazing! Some people should consider reading the whole thing too since some questions popped up again and again even if the solution was described already. That said, Kudos to the chef and his companions (Phil ++). It seems I would wait to upgade until the CPU issue is solved, though.
Anyway I've learned a LOT about playing with my Tornados now, and thats thanks to you guys.
And to the other norwegian who thought his phone was bricked; the tri-colored screen is the bootloader, and thus a 'downgrade' to an official WM5 ROM is the solution (I think?). People not feeling comfortable with registry settings, and other tweaking should not try these things out before reading a lot about it.
Luckily i have two Tornados (Qtek 8300 and 8310) so i can afford some experimenting.
Well. I've been following topics about wm6 for tornado since they started to appear, but this is my first post.
Again, thanks for the work guys, and I hope I get the chance to try out the next BETA.

Wow.. didn't get that, and I read every single post.
As I see it now then it's only missing a MMS-client?
x9 support is there for 14 lang. , GPRS/EDGE working, comm manager. etc
So it's nearly perfect then?
Did anyone make a list of wich lang. packs was included? didn't see that in this thread either. Sorry for nagging.

Well, you could say that so may pages of a thread could easily form a manual!!! Or may we have to create a new acronym: RTFT!!! ;) :D
Seriously, if you are a newcomer and you don't read all these posts then you should not try to upgrade your phone; it is possible that you'll break it! And reading all these posts (especially the first ones of each WM6 ROM thread) means that you know all bugs and problems as well as all the possible solutions.
So, asking the same old questions again and again does not justify you, even if you are a newcomer. You just succeed in being ignored by most people and spoiling the discussion!
Scripta manent, so read well before posting!!!

Flashing instructions are as follows:
NOTE: This will work on vista providing you have followed the Vista RUU guide HERE (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=252977) or HERE (http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/vista/index.html) :)
For those getting the "Not Allow Operation" error in TeraTermPro, or, even worse, getting stuck in bootloader after flashing. You MUST superCID your device using the SPV-Sevices client! This step is NOT optional and could result in your phone becoming a brick if anything goes wrong
1. Make sure you device is SuperCID, you can check using the SPV Services client, if on reading the CID it displays 3131313131313131 in a long string of numbers then it IS CID unlocked, if not, the click the CID = 11111111 button and reset your device
2. Download the ROM linked in the first post
3. Download the attached TeraTermPro.zip
4. Disable USB connections in ActiveSync (right click the icon in the systray, then select connection settings and untick the USB connections box), turn off your device, hold camera ad plug the device into the USB port to enter bootloader mode.
5. Extract TeraTermPro.zip and run ttermpro.exe, then select Serial and then USB in the drop down box. Then type: info 2
You will then probably get the following output:
info 2
GetDeviceInfo=0x00000002
+ SD Controller init
- SD Controller init
+StorageInit
CMD55 failed
+ SD Controller init
- SD Controller init
+StorageInit
CMD55 failed
HTCSSuperCID ' HTCE
Cmd>
If you don't see HTCSSuperCID ' HTCE above the Cmd> prompt then your device isn't SuperCID. You must use the SPV Services Client to make your device SuperCID as instructed in step 1
6. Type format BINFS
This will then output:
Cmd>format BINFS
Format BinFS partition.
Format is completed!!
Cmd>
7. Now type: ResetDevice
You device will then reboot, display the splash screen for around 2 seconds before running into the bootloader again. This is normal.
8. Extract WM6TornadoALPHA.zip then run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the RUU folder.
9. Wait while it flashes your device
10. Install the extras you want in the 'extra stuff' folder, I recommend you install comm manager, task manager and xT9 as these solve most of the WiFi and T9 icon issues people are expericencing
11. Done :D

Please be more specific about what did you do.

Saw the Beta with the CPU issue, quite a while back... is there a downloadable working beta now?
All I find still is this : The link is now BROKEN as I have had to take down the ALPHA version to make way for the test BETA that I've made available to a few people for preliminary testing.
LOVE this port, btw. Contributing to the $$$ pot coming up, too. It made my phone the best I've ever used, no way I'll buy another for quite a while! You guys ROCK!
