ALPHA RELEASE!

Note: This is in no way a finished product, some stuff still might not work, but as far as Tornado ROM's go in terms of speed and reliability, it runs like sh!t off a shovel :D

I will embed these cabs at a later date, however atm, I don't have time so I've just dumped the i-mate SP5 ROM and cab'd up a few apps you all wanted.

Flashing instructions are as follows:

NOTE: This will work on vista providing you have followed the Vista RUU guide HERE (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=252977) or HERE (http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/vista/index.html) :)

For those getting the "Not Allow Operation" error in TeraTermPro, or, even worse, getting stuck in bootloader after flashing. You MUST superCID your device using the SPV-Sevices client! This step is NOT optional and could result in your phone becoming a brick if anything goes wrong

1. Make sure you device is SuperCID, you can check using the SPV Services client, if on reading the CID it displays 3131313131313131 in a long string of numbers then it IS CID unlocked, if not, the click the CID = 11111111 button and reset your device

2. Download the ROM linked in the first post

3. Download the attached TeraTermPro.zip

4. Disable USB connections in ActiveSync (right click the icon in the systray, then select connection settings and untick the USB connections box), turn off your device, hold camera ad plug the device into the USB port to enter bootloader mode.

5. Extract TeraTermPro.zip and run ttermpro.exe, then select Serial and then USB in the drop down box. Then type: info 2

You will then probably get the following output:

If you don't see HTCSSuperCID ' HTCE above the Cmd> prompt then your device isn't SuperCID. You must use the SPV Services Client to make your device SuperCID as instructed in step 1

6. Type format BINFS

This will then output:
Cmd>format BINFS
Format BinFS partition.
Format is completed!!

7. Now type: ResetDevice

You device will then reboot, display the splash screen for around 2 seconds before running into the bootloader again. This is normal.

8. Extract WM6TornadoALPHA.zip then run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the RUU folder.

9. Wait while it flashes your device

10. Install the extras you want in the 'extra stuff' folder, I recommend you install comm manager, task manager and xT9 as these solve most of the WiFi and T9 icon issues people are expericencing

11. Done :D

fixed the issue seems that tertermpro tools doesnt seem to connect or work for me.

so i used mytt 142.exe application

Turn off the phone and disconnect USB
Press Camera button and holding it insert USB connector (or holding Camera button press Power button for 1-2 seconds).
When "Need an UI (0)?" appears on the screen press [0] immediately. You will see tricolor screen, in the blue zone there will be "Typhoon IU" message, if you see "Typhoon XIP" you were late to press [0], start from beginning.
Run mtty1.42.exe from archive, choose [USB], press Enter and you will see a prompt.

1) use a hex editor on the rom file and search for the devauth.exe string e.g. 44 00 65 00 76 00 41 00

2) between the "devauth" and the "exe" you will see the hex "00 2e".

3) swap these bytes around so they are "2e 00" instead of "00 2e".

4) This will keep te same checksum but will not allow the devauth.exe to run. well it work in my case at least"

The rom will be released when its finished, you just have to be patient. No need for nagging Phil and asking the same question over and over. It will work on: Qtek 8300, Qtek 8310, I-mate sp5, i-mate sp5m and spv c600.

I guess that metabase strings (lang_db.db) will not work OK in WM6. It wasn't OK even in WM5 for tornado.

Bugs:
- Contacts application does not work. I've used my pim.vol from WM5 ROM. I can acces the contacts just via homescreen (dial)
- the phone lags when copying to card. try this: listen to music & surf the web with IE'storage card tweak (cache is saving to storage card). With the iphone rom i don't have this problem. I've attached the SD_HC driver from that ROM on WM6 comments.. thread.

Only issue left comm button doesn't work and can't remove installed programs. Work around for the programs is to remove them from active sync.

i'm a c600 user, and i have the same problem, the joystick work very badly. i don't se the java platform, to bad. also pvplayer it will be god to be included for rtps protocol streaming. this rom is faster than wm5, work's great. i was using the "modem link" (in wm5) to surf the internet from my computer thru my mobile, now the connection is made from "internet sharing" and is no need to make dial up connection any more. i'm allways on now when i'm connected to my phone. allot of thanks for your hard work and cooking this rom. and hy DSF!!! i'm from Romania to, i know you from mobilewave.ro :)

What i've found:

- wifi doesn't automatically scan for nearby networks
- wifi keeps asking to be turned off to conserve battery, even if it's already off
- even if manually specifying the wifi access point, the phone won't connect
- sounds are played faster than normal
- i can't seem to find where to configure the bluetooth settings! I can only scan for devices... where do I set the BT name and auth mode like in WM5?
- the IME icon (the one that replaces the battery icon when on a text box) is corrupted

Moreover I don't find it really faster as you said.... especially when opening menu's and submenu's seems like the processor is having a hard time!
But there are also some improvements when switching wifi and bluetooth, and IE seems a little faster.

Enough for now :D

i cant confirm that sounds played faster than normal, but the a2dp quality is poor and when i listen to music over a bluetooth-headset the phone slow down a lot more than with wm05 and the a2dp hack.

Did you try these?

Codec_Gain_Embedded -->00 or A0 or C0 or E0 with anything else(for ex. 10 or anything else decimal ,B0,D0,F0) you lower the volume while EAC increases.

With these setting at registry my volume is as loud as WM5.

Maybe you could check your IE settings. I remembered that when I first flashed my Dash to WM6 I encountered the same problem and it turned out that the default setting of IE under WM6 was different from that of WM5...

did you solve that? i've set up my connection but even in the Mail client it tries to connect but almost instanlty gives up with the same error!

To the audio problem:
It's not only a faster-playback problem... some sounds are also played with a different pitch (i.e. a phone.wma ringtone i have), and some others are played with loud hiss and distortion (i.e. the beep sound or the key tones when you write a phone number in teh call dialer program).

Finally, does someone know where to set Bluetooth name and OBEX auth mode in this rom? I can't find the control panel!

No language file will be included in any upcoming ROM to conserve ROM space, language files must be installed separately, unless someone else from this forum are willing to cook the ROM and put the language file in

The file looks like a _Setup.xml in general CABs.

I found a bug in WordBook Dictionary program. I cannot scroll in the word definition screen. The joystick did not work in this screen (like jumping to synonym word or similar meaning word while I can do that with my old 8310 ROM), the joystick still work in words list though. Please fix this bug, too. :D

I like the CommManager better. I would vote for leaving it ;-) unless its a huge memory/space killer

Are you using the right view when looking at your registry. Above one of the buttons is should say values, then hit it again and it should say keys.

One small glitch on mine.. the home screen appear slightly muddled.

The 'wireless homescreen' and 'windows default' are the wrong way around.

IE. I select 'windows default' and it displays the wireless homescreen, and vice versa. Or so it appears to me.

i have been trying to fix the comm manager problem on my phone since the rom was realesed and the reason i think that the bluetooth settings dont work is cause it makes a call to tpcutil.dll and i think that the one in the rom dont support the call, so maybe if you tried the versions from the vox rom it might fix it? also, have u noticed if you try to pick a .mid file in sounds you cant? it says: "the .mid file is an unsupported format" when they played fine in wm5...

One of the filename is obvious, I would say if you're not comfortable enough to find it, then maybe flashing your phone is a bit too dangerous for you... :(

Ok, I just upgraded my phone over lunch break and I must say that I am VERY impressed by the upgrade. Thanks a lot Phil and duke_stix and the others !

My upgrade was over Windows Vista (running on batteries :D ) and I backed up my SMS using Jeyo mobile companion. App unlocked the phone using the registry editor found in the HTC folder. Installed xt9, SP5m button fix and task manager. Now I have to install other applications (TCPMP etc) once I get home.

i think it's normal because it's windows explorer not htc (in i-mate etc was htc file explorer)

well i tried importing the comm manager from a vox rom dump and some xml's and reg settings and well, i got the bluetooth security menu working, the only problem now is that the menu says wifi settings and thats what takes you to the bluetooth settings :confused: im trying to work this out and i think it could be some eg settings that need to be tweaked but i think im on the right track

Thanks a lot for this, it breathes new life to my phone, observations on the upgrade process:

if you need to unlock your phone with SPV services, it doesn't run on Vista, it seems you need to do that on XP or 2003.

There isn't an ..alpha.exe, you have to run the RomUpdateUtility.exe to make it work, I know small details, but it's a little confusing, but it shouldn't take anything away for the great achievement this is, brilliant work.

After a bit of adjustment this new ROM is fantastic. Audio is working ok, like gprs, like wifi and like almost everything. After installing the xT9 langpack the IME icon got fixed.

A last thing i would suggest is to look into the camera driver, that produces saw-edged images and videos. The reason is that the camera pixel order is reversed (those who have COolCamera will find this option in the advanced menu, but it only works from within coolcamera!)



And last thing... when will you get rid of that pathetic green fade startup? :D And suppress these ugly red strings?
If you give me some directions, I'd happily put down some graphics for you.

im wondering, some of the problems that people are having with the rom i think traced to the tpcutil.dll and was wondering if someone could try to replace the tpcutil.dll from this rom with the vox wm6 rom ( i have a copy if needed) and see if that fixes the problems.

so by copying over the exe's, mui's, xml's and reg entries from the vox rom ive got the comm manager working fully: 8 entries including flight mode, options under settings for phone,bluetooth,wlan, and profiles with all entries working perfectly except for 2 things: there was an option there for "ip phone" but it vanished and under settings/bluetooth/ftp/ there is an option for enable bluetoothh file explorer but it wont stay enabled, and i have a txt file with all the registry entries from the vox rom, but cant find any entries for it... maybe with some help?

so by copying over the exe's, mui's, xml's and reg entries from the vox rom ive got the comm manager working fully: 8 entries including flight mode, options under settings for phone,bluetooth,wlan, and profiles with all entries working perfectly except for 2 things: there was an option there for "ip phone" but it vanished and under settings/bluetooth/ftp/ there is an option for enable bluetoothh file explorer but it wont stay enabled, and i have a txt file with all the registry entries from the vox rom, but cant find any entries for it... maybe with some help?

I don't know whether anyone else can confirm this or not, but my SP5's battery life seems much improved, compared with WM5.

I have a stupid question! I updated the ROM (succesfully) and I tried to app unlock my device with change the values in registry. I used Mobile Registry Editor, but it says "Access Denied" when I try to change the values. I cannot install any softwares to the device to make this settings. So, How can I change the values?

in the Start > HTC you have "RegistryEdit" , i've unlocked my phone with this program

Alpha2: all changes in the registry resets to default after soft reset (off-on)! Very important to solve this problem in the next release!
