All the other ROM I have flashed have come with a utility to run the process. I tried replacing a previous rar file with this one and running the utility I had, but it changed nothing. I have read all the guides, the step by steps, etc, but the info seems to be for full packetsm not how to insert a new rar. I am dense. I am uneducated, I am sorry!

What is the difference with other ROM ?
Is there something specific for AT&T ?
Sorry if the question is stupid, but I don't know AT&T particularities... ;-)

ok, have you flashed hard-spl on your phone before? If not, search for it and flash it! Next, you need winrar or some other file extraction program to extract the rar file (a compressed folder) to get the files out. Then you'll find the installer files inside, you run the exe... Hope this helps.

Mainly the big thing is this includes by default the sms/mms and data/proxy settings for cingular/att's network. You can use this rom with another carrier, but you'll need to delete those settings or install you own over top of them.

I've updated to Shadowmite 1.1, while this is still a "beta" if you will, it's perfectly stable and appears good. Use this one if you want the HTC Home Plugin available... I've also removed windows live and streaming media in this version:

Ive had it running for a few days now and have noticed marked improvement on battery life. My only challenge has been running out of program memory during IE sessions. I run MemMaid and clean up, then I can go again, but I'm wondering if I have something set wrong.

Hmm, not sure, but I will be releasing another version maybe tomorrow with a increased available program memory using a 4mb pagepool instead of the stock 6mb.

Slightly off topic but is there a way / application to load apps & information in one go after flashing a new rom or is installing all the cabs one by one the only way.

Thanks in advance

Well, dunno if it helps much, but my HTCustom app, which is in my roms has a CABS button which allows you to choose a folder and it starts all cabs in it to be installed for you... but it needs human interaction.

In other news, the rom is ready and uploading now...

Version 1.1 is posted, now with 4mb pagepool, should increase your program memory a little and make it perform a little more quickly. I think this is about perfect now, let me know!

Hi, A very nice looking ROM - for which... thanks!

BUT... I keep getting... "An unhandled error has occured in the shell. Attempting to restart the shell [ok]". Soon as I hit the OK, phone reboots.

Now, to help u diagnose... I have installed NOTHING on top of your ROM. Only change I made from stock is I removed your Cingular settings .cab and installed the standard HTC ones for my UK Vodaphone network. (Actually, I was getting this error BEFORE I even removed the Cingular .cab)

Only other thing I can say is, I also unchecked the BatteryStatus plugin from the Today items (as I don't like it or need it... or do I, with this ROM? Maybe I will re-enable it a while...)

That's all. I'll try and stick with this ROM as it's the kind of thing I've been working on for myself... nice, clean and tight... but I've had no time recently to develop ROMs so it's easier for me to run with your work and let you do the head scratching!! :) Still, a nice effort so far - thanks again!

Moz.

Weird, I've never seen that error. I hate to say it, but could you start with the rom freshly flashed and tell me anything I can do to cause this to occur? Or is it random? I do run the battery status plugin on mine (very useful info, especially the current draw) but I've just removed it to see if I can get the error.

Let me know if you have any procedure I can try to get this error.

Also, you removed the cing.cab and then installed yours and ran it? That should be fine as the only cingular branding is that cab being ran after the welcome.

Mozzerr
21st July 2007, 03:20 AM
Ok, so it seems to be your 1.51 version of the HTC X-Button task manager. I always set the "End progs by tapping X" (not the default tap-and-hold option..) The previously mentioned error only ever happens when I'm tapping X to close down something or other... So, I installed my own .cab of this app (v1.5 build 29196) and all is now fine!

I'll probably do a fresh flash of your Rom tomorrow (its 2am now here) just to be sure, but I think I'm right in saying that your implementation of the x-button app in rom does not give the x-button icon in /start/settings/system... (i now have this by virtue of my reinstalling the app...) I think this icon *is* needed because if you choose to turn off the x-button "shortcut" thingy in the today screen there would otherwise be no way to get back to the x-button option settings.

Hope this helps...

Moz.

Shadowmite

a-ha, I got the error now myself, but only if set to close app on clicking the X and furthermore then closing a system app that is running from shell32.exe. For some reason my entries of immune apps aren't being taken as immune. I'll look into this. Good catch!

The program however is in settings, system and is listed as task manager...

Ok, here is the fix, just install this cab (reg entries only) and it'll be working after the next soft reset... I'll figure out why this didn't work from the main hive before the next release.

Mozzerr
21st July 2007, 11:11 AM
Yes, thanks Shads, that's fixed it. I did a hard reset this morning, the error came back, then applied your reg .cab fix and now the error is all gone!

Let's see how this runs a while but first impressions are EXCELLENT! Then, when you re-build the next version can I suggest maybe you change the thread title to remove the implied Cingular specifics...? That way you should see a bit more attention to this nice little ROM. It deserves it! (You could even pull the Cing. and Batt. Status .cabs from your Ext. rom and attach them as separate .cabs...? Then advertise the main rom for what it really is... a lean and quick WM6 offical Rom with 4meg pagepool... in other words... perfection from my perspective!!)

So far, for me, this ROM now rocks! Thanks for the great work Shads!!

Agreed, I think I'll write a little after welcome application that will allow a user to enable the cingular settings or choose not to. The batterystatus cab I knew some people where going to reject, but sometimes you need to force people to try something new! It really is a very useful plugin as it can help you track your battery's drain level and help you get more life from the same charge. But again, I could most likely set that up to run if a user selects it only.

What registry changes do you need to make for acquiring the network time and enabling the tab??

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting]
"ShowNITZPage"=dword:1

That one shows it.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"NITZEnable"=dword:1

That one enables it at boot.

You know what's odd, to start with my rom has these settings and it sounds like crap. So I change them (with HTCustom) and disable jointstereo and set a bitpool, restarted bluetooth, then changed them back and restart again... Suddenly it works perfectly just like I've heard... Not sure what that issue could be. You might want to try re-enabling those settings just to see what happens. This rom does have the newer bluetooth stack with a fixed jointstereo.

:) Hey, I used to be like that... Go for it matey, an "after welcome" app. will be sweet! (Although, just attaching the extra .cabs to the post would accomplish the task so much easier [for you!!]... But don't let me douse your enthusiasm, I love your style matey!!) :D

The batterystatus cab I knew some people where going to reject, but sometimes you need to force people to try something new!

Chi's Batterystatus ain't new to me mate, used it all the time to overclock my previous HTC (a Prophet). The only reason I don't particularly rate it now is simply because it used to have issues on my Prophet with precious memory leakage... and in this instance, on my Trinity, I just don't like the way it makes my home screen look when in landscape mode (I use landscape nearly all the time and the battery drain just isn't a problem for me, for the particular way that I utilise the phone!)

... I'm still *loving* this ROM by the way! By all means lets hone and tweek it but *please* let's keep it cool and understated and *not* over-pimp it if at all possible... I know the temptation is HUGE, but that's when it all starts going downhill I reckon!!

Thanks again,

Appologies
Fair point I should have looked harder!

auramae

I have two problems:

The first has been discussed elsewhere. The GPRS settings and the Exchange password disappear after every soft reset (which sucks because Sprite backup does a reset before running!). I haven't seen anyone come up with a solution to that yet, and just wanted to report that I have it with this ROM.

The second challenge relates to the theme. I can't seem to select a different theme from the one pre-loaded in the ROM. Is there a registry setting I need to change to allow that? I usually use the SPB Mobile Shell colored themes.

Shadowmite
24th July 2007, 06:04 PM
I need to take a look at the theme issue you're having, I haven't tried to change mine but it could be related to how I set the theme in this rom, I literally hard set it rather than embedding a tsk file. As for loosing settings, mine doesn't do this, have you installed software on it? I'm wondering if there is a common program that could be causing the issue you're seeing there. I read someones statements in another thread to check \windows\start up and see if anything weird is in there like a cleanstart or something...

auramae
24th July 2007, 06:59 PM
Everything looks like it belongs. I didn't see anything like "cleanstart". (I tried to attach a screen capture, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.) The only thing that looks odd is btdwake.

Thanks!

Oh, and do I have programs installed? HAHAHAHAHA! I have tons! I keep trying to thin the herd every time I hard reset, but I really use all of these every day.

stephencurle
24th July 2007, 11:38 PM

great ROM shadowmite.. looks awesome so far. I'm facing a semi theme problem.. and a related issue.

i installed this dopod netwizard cab that i pulled from the SEA WM6 rom. However, it doesn't just install netwizard and my provider settings, it also installs the htc green theme. I then lost your black bars and stuff and can't recover them. when i go to 'windows default' theme, i just get the old greenish blue default bars. not a huge issue, but i'm wondering, can you tell me why this thing is installing the green theme and how i can poke around in it and remove that?

The theme I'm using is literally hard set via files in the rom. If you've replaced it there is no way currently to get it back. Perhaps I'll work on making it a standard tsk file, I was just removed the extra bulk of having it sit as 2 copies since it's a high quality background and takes a decent amount of space...

dear shadowmite
yesterday i flashed your rom (my first flashed rom!) and i am really impressed as it is really fast!

this rom has solved one big problem i had under wm5!

i have a database of 8000 outlook contacts
such database file (pim.vol) is abt 11 Mb and with WM5 it was eating all my memory (as it seems that WM5 by default is loading all the contacts database in the RAM)
it took me abt 1 minute to open and access the Contacts database

Now instead, with your fantastic rom flashed, the Contacts window opens immediately (less than 1 second)
i still dont understand the exact reason of such improvement but who cares..! what counts is the final result.

however i am now facing a problem that i did not have in WM5:

when i synch e-mail (via usb to desktop, or via 3g to exchange server) i get a low memory error.
i have only about 500 e-mails to synch (with no attachments)

with WM5 before starting activesyn i had abt 10 mb free ram and i had no problem
now, with yr new rom, before starting activesync i have abt 20 mb free ram, but during the activesyn free ram goes down to 1.5 mb and then suddenly the whole process stops and i get the low mem error.

do you have an idea what the problem is?
how can it be that 500 mails (only text without attachments) are taking so much space??

appreciate your opinioni

PS again congratulation for your beautiful rom!

Hey Shadow---this ROM works great on my phone -- themes are a little quirky---but phone works great so far.

One question pertaining to your AT&T Settings. I use the PDA Connect Plan -- and I know that allows me to use the ISP.CINGULAR Access Point. But I see that you only have WAP set up. Is there a reason? Do you know if there is a big difference between the 2 settings? I use the WAP for my MMS generally.

Updating first post now to include the 6-tab fix for the home plugin in this rom. It's fully capable of the 6 tabs (adding in music player functions), it just wasn't enabled by default. Get the cab file in the first post and install then reset! Will be set for windows media player (default in this rom, if you want audiomanager it's a simple edit for you plus installing it).

Thanks a lot for the ROM, runs well after 5 days of usage, I just got the 6 tab update for the HTC Today "thanks" my question is though how do you map the music plugin to start the HTC Audio Manager and not the WMP>

Edit 1 :

Got it

If you want to have the HTC Audio Manager as your default player you need to reg edit the following:-
Go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Music Plug-in and change music player value from 1 to 2
Then go to programmes and start the HTC audio player and stop it, then go to the music plugin in the HTC home screen and tap on 'launch music player' it should then work, just leave it running in the background.

Hi Shadowmite,

First, let me say that your ROM is absolutely THE best WM6 cooked ROM in my humble opinion!

BUT... I had to un-flash it because of the fact that it's based upon the first official WM6 kernel, and unfortunately, this kernel contains a bug whereby the "Device Code" as calculated by the TomTom GPS application keeps changing upon hard reset (plus at other random times apparently!)

This makes it impossible to use TomTom with your ROM because each time this "device code" changes, you have to re-register the app. with TomTom's website - and this is only possible under *very* restricted circumstances.

I suspect that this in-kernel bug was one of the reasons why the first official ROM was pulled from the Dopod web sites shortly after release.

However, the fixed official Rom has now been re-released at Dopod... see here:-

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321182

So, what chance of a re-build of your lean, mean version? Pleeezzz, pleeezzz, pleeezzz!!! :D

I know this involves significant time investment for you... but if you could consider doing this, I'm sure I for one could manage a small donation to show some appreciation!

Thanks in anticipation, Moz. :)

Greetings. I have completed my upgrades, after reading posts for the past two weeks:
My process was: 1) Downloaded Winrar 2) then Olipro 1.20 3) Radio ROM 1.46.00.11 4) Olipro 1.30 5) Shadowmite v1.1

All went reasonbably well. I received the error 246 while downloading both Olipro versions. But, they downloaded on the second attempt to run the ROMupdateUtility, each time.

Now, I have used Winrar to place the X-button and 6-tab files in my personal folder, but I dont know what to do with them. I have never installed cabs, and I have searched high and low for directions/guidance/instruction.

In the X-button folder there is a _setup icon and a X-butt~1.000 icon

In the 6 tab floder there is a _setup icon and a 6-tabfix.000 icon

Can someone give this newbie a hand? Step by step would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,

Ahm

Cab files are simple, you don't want to open them with winrar, just copy the entire .cab file to the phone and click on it in the phones file manager... It's a install program for the phone basically...

I have read each of your post in this thread, so I thank you for your patience in advance. But, your response is not clear to me. When I click on your cab link on page one it gives me two options: open or save. When i opened it automatically used Winrar. Are you saying I should do something after that point or are you saying I should "save" it, then do something from that point? Because neither am I sure how to copy the entire .cab to the phone. Oh, did I mention I am a very green, wet behind the ears NEWBIE???

Also, of other note, when i open internet explorer, the web browser appeared, but I had not means to input data. There was not keyboard option or anything. I was wondering if this is addressed in one of the .cabs you have listed? I dont immediately recall reeading of such errors.

Thanks,

Ahm

Yes, you want to click it, and save the file to your computer. Then using activesync you want to explore your phone's filesystem and copy the file over to it. Then from the phones file explorer you click it to run it. You could also try browsing to the file directly from pocket IE on your phone...

Great. I'll give it a go.

Shadowmite, your ROM is awesome. I installed your two "fix" cabs, and all is well. But, I had to first upfrade to Activesync 4.5. AS 4.2 came on CD with my phone purchase. Once I upgraded to 4.5 from the Microsoft website, established a connection between phone as computer, I selected the "files" sync tab and it created a desktop folder for files. So, when i saved your .cabs, i designated this desktop folder as the destination. Synced my phone and the .cabs where on the phone. Clicked on the .cabs one at a time, and they automatically installed.

Thanks a million for your help & ROM.

Question: can I move those .cab folders to my storage card or delete them, or would this "uninstall" the .cabs?

Thanks again,

Ahm :)

Shadowmite,
I am still using your rom on orange uk and find it great.
Couple of points of feedback.
I am unable to perform a soft boot with the memory card in, the process hangs on the green windows mobile screen.
Also of late it has been misbehaving a little which may be due to either warfare incorporated or radio 1.50.08.111.

Greetings Shadowmite and to all others.

First, let me applaud you for your ROM. I love it. And thank you for instructing me in .cab installations. I have installed McCune's Touch Dialpad English only version, and it works perfectly. Can easily use one handed, thumb only for entries and has T9. It can be found in the Trinity Mobile 6 thread, with a heading of "Personalised skins and graphic elements". See .cab links on posts # 38 and #41.

Anyway, the primary purpose of this post is to detail two issues I have encountered, and I will be the first to tell you, they could be user errors, though I think not.

1) I have downloaded ringtones on my phone. Some prior to upgrading to your ROM and some after. The Incoming Call setting works fine, but for some reason, when I designate a specific ringtone for a Contact profile (say for my wife), it will not play. Instead, when she calls it plays the Incoming Call ringtone. When I open my Contact page/list, and I press the contact graphic to the far left, it list the various numbers for that person or business. On my wife's list of numbers, just below the last number it has the title song of the ringtone I have selected for her and says "ringtone". Then, if you press on the ringtone listed, the left soft button displays "play". I press the soft button and it will play. But, when she actually calls me, the specific ringtone does not play, instead the "Incoming Call" ringtone plays. I have mixed and matched various ringtone combinations to attempt to determine if the issue rested with my personal ringtone or with ringtones you preloaded. Same result each time.

2) While in File Explorer, I attempted to use the "search" feature. It allowed me to input data and select any and all search criteria, but I could not firgure out to activate the search. My two soft buttons read "file" and "menu", but when pressed they dont open or respond. The only other tab reads "cancel" in the top right corner.

Any suggestions with these two "issues" I have encountered

Thank again,

Ahm

EDIT: After further test, it appears contact specific ringtones will not function when called from a landline, but works fine when called from a cellular phone. I even placed a cell number in the home field and vice versa. It made no difference. The cellular phone always produced the contact specific rigntone, even when i saved the cell number in the "home" field.
