Hello all, I beg thee if you can help me, my friend "stole" my xda orbit while I was erm drunk and changed a load of settings, inc adding a password. When I was sober he told me what it was so I could use the phone again. But last night I accidently wanted to change the 4 digit number code that you do when the phone goes inactive for like 1 minute...Instead I think I accidently activated some password...everytime I go to restart the xda I get grilled for a password and if its wrong the time counter keeps going up and up...

Basically I really either need to crack or deactivate this password or some how backup my txts and phone...as I didn't before and theres a few sentimental texts I don't want to lose...

I hope you can help me

i think you might be stuck unless you can figure out the passcode!

i dont think it lets you sync your phone at all does it?

was about bootloader mode, if you can go in you would be able to flash a (new) rom.....

You just have to go to WM6 artemis part of the forum, read the topics about "how to flash" and use the last wm6 rom B&B v3.7.

Before that, ensure bootloader mode is available.
Good luck ;)

If it is a UK model then he can flash it back to the original ROM using the microSD card first if it will not connect by USB cable.

As it seems no backup was done, what about trying to ask a repair center if they can "unlock" the password. Of course you will have to show to purchase invoice ....

I will PM you about the file you need as all references to it seem to have been removed from the site.

You then put the file onto an empty microSD card and put the card into the phone.

When you turn on the phone ho hold in the 'record' button (top left hand side viewed from the front of the phone) and the phone should go into boot-loader mode and recover the OS from the microSD card.

EDIT: NOT removed, just unpinned! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314866

Does it matter if anything else is on the SD card?
Do I need to update to a newer WM5 Rom after as I think i saw that 02 1 is a bit old??

Sorry, but doesnt a hard reset solves this problem?? (if the lock is on the phone) sipmle and quick solution.
If it is the sim that is locked, contact you provider.

Considering flashing the ROM is deffinately going to wipe any saved texts etc. Surely a simpler option is a hard reset?

Press and hold both soft-keys, press the stylus into the reset hole, release reset, wait for message on screen and release soft-keys.

This will return the phone to out-of the -factory state, so again you will loose all saved data in system memory and all installed applications in system memory.

Not quite. Flashing the ROM will erase your "sentimental" messages.

Yes, but it is looking like he is going to lose them no matter what happens.

Just Hard Reset it....Wont ask for the password...you will loose your data on the device though....and if your data is on the PC can sync again...no issue there...but the service centers will not remove the password...I had the same issue...and thats what i did.

cheers

yeah all you have to do is hard reset the pda and then the password will be erased, along with all your data ofc.

It would be interesting though to find a way to "crack" the password or somehow remove or bypass it.....
