Instructions say you need a rom code older than 3.00.707.18 to update but mine is 1.23.707.5 so perhaps I'm screwed?

I stop arguing, but for sure not because of your post.
My last comment concerning this issue: A HTC employee told me, that there will be an Update for the Trinity P3600. I even gave him my serial number.
Maybe he told me trash, but then I will give the device back to HTC.
I really can´t understand, why other members try to persuade me, that I´m to silly to make phone calls!

Tired of waiting for the official HTC ROM, I tried the Dopod D810 SEA ROM a coupled of days ago. There is very little Dopod customization so I doubt that the HTC ROM when/if it finally comes out will look much different. I've tried most functions (Bluetooth, WiFi, Push Mail, etc.) and all work well. The only thing missing is Bluetooth DUN (available on this site as an add-on) and VOIP. Unlike some of the members here I actually like a complete ROM and use Acrobat Reader, Windows Live etc. so this is the solution for me. I used Des' new crash proof SSPL and Shadowmite's SPL, IPL, Radio removed ROM and installation worked flawlessly. Since it did not include the radio, it installed quickly. I had the newest radio already installed from a previous cooked ROM so I didn't have to update that but the radio is available as a separate update for those who want it.
More information:
TomTom 6.03 works well, hasn't frozen yet and first fix is quicker than WM5. Battery life is the same as WM5.
ROM hasn't lost 2GB SD card in 4 days!

And I got what you said. Changes are that I will not use the upgrade since the dopodversion that I use works like a charm.

Hi Jules,
That isn't a stupid question at all. Technically, it will work. However, since the M700 (Orange) isn't from the same brand as the P3600 (HTC) the device is probably locked for flashing the HTC rom.
If you wish to install a rom from a different brand than yours be aware of the riscs: there are no guarantees.
To install e.g. the dopod rom:
1. Use the CID remover on this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957
2. Install the rom e.g. http://rapidshare.com/files/46816571/RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.00.707.18_6275_1.46.30 .11_108_Ship.exe
Further, the only one who can decide which rom is the best for you is.... you :D
Just try a rom, see if it is what you like and if so, keep it.

Hi Arilexed
I'm extremely grateful for your help. I have to admit, the unknow factor scares me a little - I'd be a bit screwed if I ended up with a brick.
I'm going to hunt around a little more and see if I can find any M700 users who've had luck changing their ROM, and then will most likely give the Dopod ROM a shot.
Thanks again for your help, and sorry to be hogging forum badndwidth with my own little dilemas.

Jules,
I've got an Orange M700. The first time I flashed it was with AX3L's WM6 ROM and now I'm using Indigo Full. Both have worked great for me, the odd crash but nothing that's bothered me. I must note though that I did NOT CID Unlock or anything else my device. I went straight from the official ROM to AX3L's to Indigo - it just worked :)
There is a "cooked to fool orange" ROM that someone (sorry can't remember who) extracted from the official Orange ROM if you need to go back.
Hope this help ya

That's why my next pda will be an ETEN M700,perhaps saturday if i can !
Just wait for Eten X800, soon to be released. Equal feature (HSDPA + GPS) with Trinity/P3600/Dopod D810.
But AFAIK, as I'm an ETEN user too (I have M600), ETEN customer care is even worst than HTC/Dopod :D Even the homepage is rarely updated!!!
I think it's very typical of east asian producer. They just primarily concerned about the selling, not the aftersales... Plus I think the language barrier is too thick for them.
I'm an Asian (South East Asian to be truth), yet I'm not proud of their behaviours :p

Sorry if anyone has knew this, but since I haven't found it listed on Trinity Wiki as available upgrades then I must inform this.
There is a new official WM6 release (ver 3.00.707.17) from Dopod for SEA (South East Asia Region), which in my opinion is more generic than ANZ (Australian and New Zealand) version.

Mecoman, you can find the link on my previous post. It's from DopodAsia website (now it's HTC's - as we knew that HTC bought Dopod). But you must have a legitimate login though, the one you got after registering your device, complete with S/N and IMEI number....
Yes it is in English. Unlocked version.
Just info, that I finally flashed mine... with the ROM. Yet I couldn't find any significant (read: useful and functional) changes in WM6. Kinda wasted effort...
IMHO, just another gimmick from Micro$oft. Darned...

I'm still waiting for the HTC Rom.
I have 3 reasons for doing so:
1- It's HTC, so we have to wait:)
2- Only TyTn has an official rom. What about P3300?
3- In a portuguese forum a guy asked the local importer of HTC and he said that the rom probably will be ready in the late August or in the begining of september. We've got to keep the faith:D

Could be but I can assure you that the devices in the original press release will come first. Looking at the time gap between TyTN WM6 release and the next, which still isn't there, I would say something around Christmas .... IF!

That doesn't make sense. If it's already in the market, wouldn't someone just be able to get it and dump the ROM for us to use?
By the way, they're really screwing us over aren't they, with this release of the P3600i. Much less people are gonna wanna bid on my P3600 when I try and sell it on eBay. I'm just really hoping ETEN comes up with some alternative to the Kaiser that matches or exceeds its specs -- a switch from HTC is way overdue.

The central issue and problem is that the different support hotlines have different knowledge-levels concerning the progress of such plans. I've called the support in July and asked about the WM6 Rom and the answer was that there is nothing official but there will be a WM6 Upgrade in late Septembre. I guess that the answer to the question depends on whom you are currently talking to.

P3300 and P3600 were released at the same time in Europe but sales numbers are much better for P3300 than P3600 (I know, we sell HTC devices). I think this is because of build-in GPS which of course was announced too late for P3600 in order to keep the sales going.
It is my believe that HTC will release an upgrade for P3300 because of the strong sales numbers of this device.

HTC is still doing things or investing time or whatever you want to call it with the P3600. From now on you can't download any official ROM anymore from the HTC site for the Trinity, at least not the WM5 anymore. Will they replace it with another WM5 ROM? Or A WM6 ROM? We don't know, but what we do know is that the P3600 is still in their maintenance picture.
That is a whole lot better then firmware from for example 1995, isn't it?

I don't remember clearly, but I think just before they released the Dopod's SEA and ANZ updates, there was some irrational changes on the HTC site as well.

I could tell you the same thing:
If their intention was not to update the rom, why removing the wm5 rom?
The release date was 30th of july, not so old, they could have left it online for a while...
The point isn't to argue about their intentions: nobody knows, but just to analyze their moves.
I was just wondering if this kind of action looks like what they have done shortly before they released the wm6 upgrade for Dopod.

26th September 2007, 12:55 AM
The HTC P3600i has WM6
Yes, we all know that technically, it would be very easy for HTC to release that wm6 ROM upgrade, as they already have the Dopod one available, which is exactly the same ROM as the new P3600i's one.
(we've all noticed that after using that Dopod upgrade, our phones display a new device name which is P3600i instead of P3600, which means they've used the ROM for the new P3600 to upgrade the Dopod D810)
So, obviously it is not a technical problem. Only a company policy issue. The problem is, they need to sell the new phone P3600i and they know the only way to do so is to launch it on the market with the new fancy wm6 ROM.
The problem is, they don't have any more money to earn from us, the users of the 'old' p3600, so they are not so keen to give us a wm6 upgrade ('for free')...
They prefer all the new customers to buy the new p3600i instead of the old one p3600.
Maybe they even expect us to be stupid (and rich) enough to buy the new 3600i only a few months after having bought the old 3600, despite the features are almost the same...
Let's just hope that all HTC's bosses are not that short-sighted and they think also about their company future on the long-run.
If we feel that they did not treat us well with the P3600, we are not going to buy HTC's products in the future, so they'd better think about it before having us frustrated for good!

Hello,
reading this thread doesn't prevent anyone from reading also the other threads.
We don't have to focuse only on some threads, we can be interested in many.
Using official ROMs doesn't mean we don't appreciate the work of the cookers.
I tried some cooked ROM before, despite my favourite one is the official Dopod now.
Cookers are also interested in official ROMs since it's the most stable basis for them to carry out personal developments on.
If one of the guys who keep watching whether or not there is something new on the HTC club support page come over with some good news, no matter if it is a ROM or some additional software, you guys we'll be the first to benefit from that information.
So, even if you are not grateful, be at least tolerant enough to not criticize their efforts.

PLEASE, do not close this thread !!! It already gained cult status !!
It is an excellent platform for social studies.
This group perfectly reflects our community: the optimists, the pessimists, the cynics, the hoping and the desperate, the dissappointed and the disencouraged ones and the one close to be radicalized...and from time to time we enjoy watching cock fights.
And what makes it thrilling: Nobody knows if a rumor is more than a rumor, maybe the newest one carries some truth ??? Almost like religion.
The forum is not just a forum, it is alive and even more, it is able to keep itself alive: It actually renews itself by raising new rumors as soon as the last one became outdated. Fascinating.
To sustain the life of the thread here is a new one: HTC eClub Germany neither has the WM5 ROM nor TomTom.
If TomTom is shipped also with HTCs WM6 it would make sense
to keep on hoping .... .

The same here on the French HTC support page.
The old wm5 ROM is back on line, and the Tomtom offer has disappeared from the download area...
My posture is still the same:
1)
still hope that HTC will gain back the customers they gonna lose if they don't release localized version of wm6 for P3600.

I'm not longing for this release since the Dopod's ROM is just perfect, in terms of fastness and stability.
But unfortunately, it's something we 'stole' away from Dopod's vendor, not a proof of HTC respect for their customers in other parts of the world.
For people wanting a localized or more personalized version right away, of course, the cooked ROM are still available on other threads.

Hello Sir,
Unfortunately the P3600 will not have an upgrade for the Windows mobile 6.
The network partner from HTC did not request the upgrade for the Windows mobile
6 for the P3600, that's why unfortunately the HTC P3600 will not have this
upgrade.
The Rom on the website has been a mistake, HTC is very sorry about the inconvenience.
Thank you for your enquiry, Should you have any other problem, please do not hesitate to call us. Your Local number can be found at http://www.europe.htc.com/support/csbyphone.html

I wonder who has instructed the HTC (outsourced) support people to blame a "network partner" for an HTC's business decision. What about the thousands of customers who bought a SIM-free P3600?
This policy of inventing someone else to blame is ridiculous and actually more outrageous than the lack of the WM6 upgrade itself.

Basically what they are saying is that they don't support their own customers at their own cost. If a company that OEM's one of the devices they sell directly requests a WM6 upgrade, then they will release one for their own device from the cost they charged the OEM to create theirs.

The only thing that matters for HTC now isn't to make the buyer of the P3600 happy, it's to lure in more and more new buyer for their new P3600i.
It's the same ROM. The same as the Dopod one. It's just a matter of SPL protection. They just don't want the P3600 users to stick too long to their current device.
They want us to buy a new phone, just for wm6, and they're wrong, because as a result, we'll upgrade with the Dopod ROM or the cooked ones, and when our trinity will be out of date, we'll buy a new phone but NOT an HTC anymore.
Why not? Because by that time, wm6 life will be about to end, and we don't want to get stuck there once more, with a new phone in term of features, but with an out-of-date OS, because of HTC short-sighted policy.
We'll buy some other brands that do respect their customers!

Yes, I think the same.
I bought this device in the far February because some rumors advice about the possibility to unlock the GPS functionality and obviously I have installed a cooked radio rom before the official upgrade.
The WM6 for the HTC devices is out the same period of P3600 official upgrade.
Now we have a lot of new devices with WM6 and some old others with the possibility to upgrade it.
Besides HTC release a "new" device very very far to the P3600 the P3600i with a OS upgrade.
Probably it depends to the oriental philosophy.
There are many competitive devices on market. Think about it.

Maybe that´s the reason why HTC does not release a wm6 for Trinity because they also think X800 is shitty,I don not know.
I don´t even bother to think about a possible version, because if they release something new is gonna be like the ones for Dopod and the cooked ones rock.

I have some UNCONFIRMED information that there are some BETA and one RC. As a matter of fact monday (today is friday) I should have the release candidate. I hope that it is not a fake, but i cannot promise.
BTW guys I can't understand what's the fuzz with this WM6. There isn't such a big difference except lots of bugs and the fact that it runs slower than WM5.
I agree the customer support @ HTC is quite annoying -- so what. There aren't devices on the market better than HTC ( ... well ... ok ... there are some ... but they haven't got the same appearance).
Qurious fact is that even Google put their bets on HTC to make the "Google phone".

1)
That would be a good news if confirmed. I just wonder why they need so many steps (beta, release candidate and so on) for a ROM that is already released: the Dopod one...
The only difference will be in terms of SPL/IPL: one is locked on Dopod devices as the other one will be locked on HTC phones... but the ROM is the same!
2)
I don't think people here complained about the quality of HTC products. We complained about their customer policy, and just said that this time, you can call it bad luck: we bought the model and the vendor that HTC decided not to upgrade.
But if next time we buy a phone, the same thing happens again: we miss the wm7 upgrade because HTC has decided to release a ...i version of our phone and not to upgrade our ROM, this will not be bad luck any more but that will mean we are just 'never learn morons'!
3)
wm6 is damn slow? Hmm...
Yeah, I know the theory saying that if you have the same hardware features on your comp, windows 98 is faster than 2000, which is faster than XP, which is faster than Vista...
But none of us want to go back to windows 98, there might be a reason...
wm6 is definitely better than wm5...
But you have to compare the same kind of ROM: official with official, customised with customised, cooked with cooked.
I tried many ROM on my Wizard, and finally, I downgraded to wm5.
But I assure you, I did not think for just one second of me downgrading my trinity's SEA wm6 ROM to the old HTC wm5 ROM...
Both are basic, and not customized official ROM, but since the trinity has got a powerful enough hardware for wm6 features, it just runs perfect...
4)
To be deprived of an upgrade, when you know that technically the ROM is ready (there is no difference between the SEA Dopod 810 ROM and a WWE product, both are English, both are generic, with no special localized features), is more serious than just an 'annoying customer service'...
It's a commercial inequity, between P3300 and other model clients and us, and also between Trinity buyers in Asia and in the West.
Why they can enjoy it in Asia and Australia, and we can't in the West?
What kind of policy is that? Even if as you say, wm5 is the ultimate ROM in mankind history and wm6 just a piece of shit, I want to have the choice, like the thousands of Asian customers who could have both ROM but chose to use the wm6 one...
I don't want HTC to decide that wm6 is not good enough for good customers like us, and that wm5 is just perfect: I prefer to choose by myself!

Well....I do not know what to say about cooked roms and original/branded ones because my knowledge doesn´t let me go very far,but since I started upgrading to wm6 I realize how fast, stable and nice it is.
So I don´t think I´ll downgrade,to me it´s not worth it at all, plus all the ugly HTC customized settings and features, eventhough some of the roms have bugs but all the cooks do such a great job that all those small problems are worth it and the help they provide is amazing, they are so willing to help and make are devices rock.
Thank you.

I'm hoping the official one will be problem free- some hope.
I have tried nearly every WM6 ROM there is and there was always a problem or two I couldn't live with (but great job to all the cooks!)
I currently use mUn TE- mainly because it keeps the same device ID that I used when the phone arrived with WM5 (which is registered for my TomTom Traffic subscription).

1)
Why people want to upgrade their phone, even if they have to hack P3600 to do it?
Well, I guess they are just like you who installed hardspl Olipro and Bepe ROM whereas wm5 was running bugless on your device...
2)
Why some people want the official ROM?
I guess as stated before because of warranty purpose. They feel safer.
For the other parts of people who have already broken the warranty but still want to try the official wm6, I see two possible reasons:
- they maybe haven't found any cooked ROM that meet their expectations, as they are all cooked according to the author's taste, with many additional features. They don't know how to cook a ROM themselve, but they want a basic and stable ROM in order to install the cabs they like on it.
- it's a matter of principle.
As I stated before, they want to see HTC support showing a little more of respect to them, and the decision of HTC to provide them with a wm6 upgrade (like Dopod, CHT and 3 clients) will decide which brand of phone they will buy in the future.
No equal support, no more investment in HTC product in the West.
I may buy them again from Dopod, CHT or 3, but definitely not from HTC in western countries!

I would like to know when I buy a phone that it will be supported for all of it's life and not only for few months.
Considering the cost not properly chipped of these devices I don't think I'll change my phone if the htc doesn't release the WM6, I can quietly use the WM5 or a cooked OS but I don't like that HTC changes the OS only for other devices consider that this decices in terms of features is directly under the TYTAN II

To be fare, I agree lot of points with you. To talk about bugs in my existing installed system, I didn't find any(may be there is one or two, which I don't know and neither I care, as I don't use those functions(most of the people seems happy in this forum with alternative roms than their original one). The gain with new builds are the speed of boot up, application launching or closing fast, increased programme memory or the memory overall. So in brief, I don't regret to remove my original rom. Well I could give try to build my own rom, in the place of installing others, but don't have that much time, so thanks goes to those develloppers in the forum, who spent there time and intelligence to build roms.
Talking about the original wm5 rom shipped with my originial device(operators version), that was not bugless too, nobody is perfect, like gps synchro took long time, sluggish and slow operation, less memory etc etc.!)
It's not true that something official will be 100% perfect, and something unofficial not, like everything printed in one book is not always truer than something said verbally. For example, one small nas device called nslu2 of linksys were sold in numbers all over the world because hackers installed full fledged linux system on it with their alternative firmware. So who knows, may be one day htc p3600 will be sold much more than now because , it's less costly than kaiser, and hackers have ported wm6 in it!
Regarding HTC support and warranty, why shouldn't we write directly together to HTC in the place of writing in Rom develloppers forum? seems like having a wife and a concubine together.

1)
why opposing constantly official ROM and cooked one?
Two different things, two different use.
Besides, I don't think anyone has ever said official means bug free. I don't even think you've seen any mention to bugs in my post...
I only said:
"maybe haven't found any cooked ROM that meet their expectations, as they are all cooked according to the author's taste, with many additional features."
They want a plain basis to customize it with cabs in their own way. I don't make any hierarchy in terms of quality, I just said this is another type of expectation that an official, generic, and plain official ROM can fulfill.
2)
we don't have to write no more letter to beg HTC for nothing, since we already have got an official ROM: the SEA Dopod, which is plain, basic, not customized, and really runs flawlessly on most of the devices.
Maybe a few people are still scared about warranty issues, and those ones would better write a letter to HTC, maybe.
But for me, and many others here, we've tried cooked ROM, we've installed cooked SPL, we've got nothing to fear about losing warranty anymore.
But we just keep an eye on HTC policy and attitude. We got an official ROM, but we got it from leak, not official relase. And we've got many feedbacks from users who did write to HTC and we already know HTC's ball-less excuses: 'our partner networks in the west did not apply for upgrading, so we can do nothing'...
Doesn't matter, I still enjoy every kind of wm6 ROM that fit me, and for now is SEA Dopod, and when time will come to buy my next phone, I will know which network and which manufacturer to choose, and I know this will not be the ones that make so many meaning-less discriminations between Asian users and Western users, and between P3300 users and P3600 users... in one word : no more HTC joke!

I xda members im from Portugal and i have one HTC P3600. After taking some time reading some notices about oficial upgrade to Trinity (P3600) i decided to contact HTC.
Thats the replay from the HTC:
"Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding WM6.
Our developers assessed devices for WM6 when it was released and the decision was made not to update the P3600 at this time.
We have logged your interest, however we do not anticipate that this device will be updated in the future, but by registering your device with the HTC eclub, should the update be released it will be published for download.
Best Regards,
Mike Barton

They dont confirm that the WM6 update come out tomorrow... but...
One think its confirmed, some good programers from XDA have made WM6 and WM6.1 for HTC P3600 with GPS activated, so GPS its not the problem...
I think that is an internal politic, lets wait. And make pressure on it!
Sorry for my bad english people! Big Ugs
