Quoting the official htp press news:

HTC is also offering WM6 upgrades for the most popular devices in its current range. This includes recently launched “messaging” products, which will enjoy the greatest benefits of Windows Mobile 6, such as the HTC Advantage, the HTC TyTN, the HTC S620, and the HTC P4350. The upgrade will also be available for the award-winning HTC P3300, plus some of our operator-branded devices.

Maybe tomorrow will be relased a wm6 upgrade for a branded version of trinity

... but I've an official unbranded P3600, which costs much more than an operator locked device...

Let's hope they do. The lack of WM6 was the only thing putting me off this device. I've been looking for a replacement ever since i shut my M600 in my car door.

I've been deciding between the P3600 and the Touch but I think I've made the right decision!

True. It is common knowledge that most upgrades are being made between 12:00 and 13:00. It is due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification. For example, Environment Canada brags about spending $3.7 billion in the last five years dealing with climate change almost all on propaganda trying to defend an indefensible scientific position while at the same time closing weather stations and failing to meet legislated pollution targets.

AAAAAARGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I want that rom!!

And if it's going to be like those ones I rather stick with the ones made by our cooks, maybe I'm wrong but does anybody think their "new rom is gonna be any better/different than the Dopod one?

I looked at an ETEN phone while contemplating what to buy. went for the Trinity - and frankly - I'd rather have a Trinity running WM5 than an Eten running WM6. For a start the differences aren't startling between WM5 and WM6 - while I preferred the HTC WM5 ROM than the cooked ones, the ROM cooks are producing Quality WM6 ROMS for the Trinity that are better than the official.

I'm thankful that we have the ROM cooks - and the community around the HTC phones - show me a forum for Eten phones as good as this. On top of that the build quality is not up to HTC's standards.

Each to his own, but unless something changes, the fact that HTC don't spend loads providing WM6 ROMS really fast for all of their devices, the products they come out with are great.

I think I might try Ubuntu mobile later this year if I can get it working for the Trinity (and if they release it).

And that's the beauty of having a great forum like this:D It provides noobies with the knowhow to make the most of their device - whether or not the phone manufacturer is quick at releasing new ROMS for their phones.

Got that. So I just called to their hotline and asked if they could confirm above message. They can't. They are still waiting to hear from their HQ if the upgrade will be made available.

Personally I really do not get the hassle. An upgrade will be / has been made available for Asia. How difficult can it be to adjust it the european standard? I mean, I am running the Australian WM6 ROM and it works fine already.

For me it is a big problem since I do want to upgrade to to a NL or UK version of Windows Mobile 6. The good thing is that many people here are really into it and can easily unlock something and upgrade it using a Dopod release. for me, that is something totally new. I have no idea where to start! How do I unlock my HTC P3600 and how can I upgrade it to a cooked UK or NL WM6?

Ok, 1st of all. Proceed at own risk.

If you are clear about that the floor is yours:
So what do you need to upgrade? I do not know. What worked for me:
Step 1. Make sure your battery is fully loaded!!!
Step 2. Remove CID. To remove CID follow this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957
Step 3. Run the installation ROM. Download:

As simple as that?.. Yes, as simple as that.

Thanks for this, it should help me if I decide to use a cooked ROM. I also just called with HTC, the guy explained to me that the email was wrong because the answer was based on the assumption I was using an operator model like Orange M700. He did confirm that there will be a official HTC P3600 ROM update for WM6 but the timeframe (based on his latest information) would be 8-12 week from now since all other models mentioned in the press release are released prior to the P3600.

Based on the lyrics "I'm So Excited".

In three months we're gonna make it happen
Then we'll put all other things aside
Get in this time and show me some affection
We're goin' for those pleasures in the night

I want that update, installed, integrated on my device
I want to see it, feel it, I just can't get enough
And if it runs real fast I let it go

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
And I know I know I know I know I know I want it!

So in their book the only customer is the "network partner" that didn't request the upgrade. We who bought a HTC-branded device and wanted an upgrade are NOT customers.
This must be the peak in customer relation management!

A UK ROM and a WWE (World Wide English) ROM should not be so different? I'm from the Uk originally - and I use WWE ROMs without any issues. With both French and UK mobile networks.

It really doesn't feel good, paying a 569€ for this device and saying that we are not important customers is bad for company who tries to establish HTC brand worldwide!? I mean why should I buy their next product?

And speaking about products, I just don't get it, no company in the world need so many models in their product line (judging by their future strategy), it is so stupid I have no words to tell it, look at Apple, they have only iPhone and fully stands behind it, there's no point in explaining to people about missing features, they just want it!? It is insane to let Trinity destiny to operators will, they had this device in November last year and just tell me how many similar products was at that time, none! It is still by far the most advanced device I have ever saw or have...and it's only 8-9 months old!

I really like my Trinity, it gets better and better every day but it is mainly because this forum and nice and clever people here, HTC should support this product by releasing full official WM6 suite, AKU patches and radio upgrades for as long as it takes to make us happy.

Phew...

The HTC Europe site has a small program to change the network and phone settings for all European mobile networks. when I was in the UK I put my Virgin Mobile simcard in to the phone ran the proggy and chose Virgin mobile from the list of all the UK operators. I second to that. We have to test all sort of Windows Mobile handsets just to ensure compatibility to our product.

I have to admit that nothing comes even close to HTC in terms of quality both Hardware and Software (ROM, Radio).

Devices from some other ODM's are looks good when you looking at the specifications but never deliver quality/ stability to one's expectations.

The link he provided to AX3L's WM6 ROM is a great ROM. I haven't had any issues with it and I have flashed a decent amount of ROMs onto my Trinity. His always turns out to be the best, in my opinion.

Just make sure you understand exactly what to do when you flash a new rom, there are a few steps.

Gerazzo, well, in fact you can :-).

Try to download the old rom, If I’m right, it comes from a ftp server and on the url there is a user name and password (I’ll not show you how to obtain that information because it depends of the browser or ftp client that you are using). Using that information you can navigate trough the all ftp (not only trinity roms) and also download the “official WWE rom.”

The url is like:

ftp://_username:_password@your.selected.server/RomCode/TRINITY-C9/

And at this moment there is not any WM6 version on the ftp.

Otherwise you will not see any download option.

btw @firiel: just use your passwd, then you can access the TRINITY folder, finding all the old stuff ...

Why are people hanging out sooooo much for HTC to release WM6 rom?

I doubt that it will be that different to the dopod releases. I have an Australian Dopod D810 and the rom is better than any cooked rom in terms of stability, speed and general functionality.

However the cooked roms still offer more flexibility, allowing one to customize to one's content.

There are ways (super CID, SSPL) to flash either the ANZ or the SEA dopod WM6 rom if you're CID is locked to another region, so why not flash to one of those roms?

Purportedly, the reason the roms got taken down was allegedly because an issue with Hutchinson 3 and not because the rom itself was flawed. Don't know how true that is, but as I said I've had no trouble.

Perhaps the Dopod roms only give trouble to non Dopod branded phones?

Then again it may be a case of the pinning for WM6 becoming an unhealthy obsession.

Truth be told I have spent countless hours on this forum since getting my Trinity...flashing this, flashing that; Customizing this, changing that. But when I ask myself if all the time exerted has been worth the cosmetic and otherwise slight modifications I now enjoy on my phone, I start to think this phone is taking over my life.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great diversion and I rather enjoy tweaking sh!t that works fine and really needs no improvement, but I can't shake the feeling that this PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), has become more of a PDD (Personal Digital Distraction).

Before the PDA i had a normal phone that I hardly looked at, now I'm constantly doing something phone related.

That said the forum has been a great source of help when I ran into issues; much more useful than HTC or Dopod ever were... kudos to XDA, but maybe we all need to chillax re: rom flashing.

And this is the reason i question if its really worth the trouble to upgrade to wm6.
I have done it, and like you i have also upgraded to different versions, from different cooks. At the end i get the feeling that i have used +100 hours for this and that and that i have not taken out from the phone all i could. Radio version displayed on the screenshot is from some other HTC device, driven by TI OMAP processor / TI radio combo.

Trinity is based on completely different platform (Samsung / Qualcomm)

thanks for the clarification - thought it looked phoney! (groan)

Then what is this screenshot doing on the download new rom section of trinity? The reason its there (they claim) is to check your pda to see if u need to upgrade or not.

Something is completly wrong:confused:

I guess for presentation purposes and to indicate that WM6 is still coming :)

Do not waste your Megabytes downloading anything from this page unless OS version is 3.x and radio is 1.4x or better.

for an instance:

RUU_Trinity_HTC_PTG_1.23.410.2_103_6275_1.38.00.11 _108_Ship

Trinity
Portugese
OS: 1.23.410.2 <--- Has to be 3.x for WM6 image file
Radio: 1.38.00.11 <--- Has to be 1.4x for WM6 image file

A new update was released today on the german HTC eClub.
The filename:
RUU_Trinity_HTC_GER_1.23.407.2_103_6275_1.38.00.11 _108_Ship.zip

It does not seem, that it is WM6, but I did not yet try it...
If they release a new version of a WM5 ROM at this time, will there really be a chance for a WM6 ROM then?

... just saw, it is the same version, that was already released. Just a new date... :(

It's tempting. I've only had my Trinity for a week and am not sure what to do. I've been reading mixed reviews about the Dopod WM6 ROM.

Some of the cooks ROMs look appealing too looking at the AX3L ROM and the upcoming Indigo from mUn. Spoilt for choice by the looks of things!

It would be nice if HTC told us either way becuase then it would help me make a decision!

Any advice is greatly welcomed :)

my penn'orth: try before you buy. If the Dopod ROM is anything to go by - go with a cooked ROM. AX3L, mUn_run LVSW and PDAVIET all have great ROMs. My advice - PDAVIET 3.0.7.08 (not the latest .10 version) mUn's latest, LVSW's latest or AX3L's 2.0.8 (the very latest I have had problems with). I like AX3L's ExtROM a lot - and use it with other ROMS - but hey - it's so subjective - as I say - try before you buy - and show your support for the ROM cooks - DONT FORGET;)

I didn´t think about a new rom from HTC,we´ve got the best from our cooks " a la carte".
If HTC releases a rom it´ll be as similar as the ones for Dopod SEA n´ANZ,boring and kinna plain and on top of that we´ll never have the support and help we can get around here every single day.
This is my story:
When I bought my P3600 I tried to get online using WIFI and the thing could barely load a website,so I updated to the HTC rom with gps enabled and same issue was there,no reliable wifi,2 out of 10 times really, really slow web browsing with wifi on.I decided to update my router firmware and the same problem was there .
HTC didn´t know what to say/do,so I decided to start trying out the roms from our cooks and guess what.....thank to them my wifi works.

I know it´s a long story but since that day I don´t even bother to count on HTC,mainly because of their useless help.

Later guys:)

Hello,

I should be receiving my HTC P3600 tomorrow. I'm a Rogers Wireless customer in Canada and would like to know if anyone has used AX3L's 2.0.8.1ROM successfully on this network?

Can anyone offer any tips or suggestions? Based on this thread, the 'all-in-one' install application should work fine correct?

Also, I am running TomTom Navigator 6, so please let me know of any issues being experienced before I try to install this ROM.

Thank you!

1. this post is nothing to do with the Official HTC WM6 for P3600 downloadable tomorrow? thread so shouldn't be posted here.

2. Do not cross post please - it won't get you an answer quicker.

3. Read before asking questions. ROMs should work on any providor. RADIO ROMs are a different matter - but what you're asking about is an OS ROM

But a very strange thing is that in my page on HTC Member site, the update release date of the rom is 30 July 2007 but I remember that this version was released on May 2007.

This thread is starting to make me insane!

Yes it's the same ROM with a different date. Some simple Common Sense is all it takes to understand the date change. The Rom was on their page without having to log into the site. They changed the site so you have to log in, whoever made the new page simply picked a date, probably the date the page was created or it was put online.

For the conflicting reports as to whether a WM6 Rom will or will not be released for the HTC P3600. It sounds like HTC is using an outsourcing company to handle their support calls. If this is the case, they only know what they know and HTC isn't giving them any more information so they are just speculating like everyone else in this forum.

Dopod released a WM6 for their branded P3600. If you take the example of the GPS update, Dopod released their version months before HTC. HTC obviously had some part in the making of the Dopod rom so it does exist. It's more likely they just want to make some money, have OEM's order work for a rom update. Going by past releases, we'll probably see an HTC P3600 branded WM6 Rom.

If you want to ensure this, time could be better spent annoying HTC people, support and marketing ect with posts over this thread.

means, that tere is some hope, isn't it?

If I am not mistaken you have sent an email to the htcclub?..

When I go to that website it says: The unofficial HTC website...

So indeed, the email above means hope... like a pipedream. Like someday, maybe it will be released.

Well, I called the HTC support 3 month ago and told them, that I only buy the device when there will follow an upgrade to WM6.

Then the guy (an Asian) told me, that there will be an upgrade to WM6, but very late .. maybe end of summer.

Nope. HTC will not do WM6 on the Trinity. Take my word for it; I've been told from the very top, four months ago.

When you are right, the first thing I do will be the return of the device to HTC, because one of their employees (I wrote down his name :D) bluffed me.

Interesting, that people who know the "very top of HTC" struggle around in user-forums! :)

Are you some type of nincompoop? With the level of intelligence you are displaying after five posts, you are the one who'll be struggling -- struggling to be understood. Exactly what correlation are you making between my knowing a few industry people, and my frequenting this forum?

You write about the "very top of (..)". So whom of the following guys do you know? Cher Wang, HT Cho, Peter Chou or Fred Liu?

I´m sorry for "going offtopic", but when reading such a shit, I could vomit!

Back to topics: I was told, that there will be an upgrade in end of summer 07.

Well, you are also acting "nincompoop"judging the intelligence of that guy based on the number of posts... ( what is the correlation). I think this forum is no place to expose your differences.

Nope. There was no direct inference about his intelligence based upon number of posts. The inference was that he might consider raising his game a little if he's going to post here and not insult people with inept comment.

Hmm. Do you think I have some sort or responsibility to you to name names? When you don't get the upgrade you are expecting, you will know I'm right. Don't hold your breath in the meantime, but feel free to vomit.
