I see there are hacks for other devices to enable DUN, is there a way to enable DUN on the T-mobile Dash?

Currently, not for Smartphones, only Pocket PC's (see my related tutorial). I'm working on the Smartphone version; hope I manage to make it work.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1403789 - it MIGHT work on the Exclaibur (but NOT on the Vox).

I was able to connect to the Edge network on my IBM/Lenovo TabletPC via a BT connection to my Dash. It was, in my opinion, excruciatingly slow, so I'd have to be pretty desperate to use it. It'd be fine for email & some limited browsing, but there's no way that I'd ever try to use it for remote controlling servers or other PCs (which was my whole intent for exploring DUN in the first place).

It was pretty straight forward and I think I just followed some instructions I found on this site or on http://forum.dashsmartzone.com (it was several months ago when I tried this). I'll try to dig up the link.

Picked this up from here: http://www.htcwiki.com/page/The+Dash+FAQ?t=anon in the section labeled "Dash as a Modem". This is pretty much what I did:

1. Make sure you're not connected to any other internet network on PC
2. Make sure Bluetooth is ON (on phone)
3. Go to Start>Accessories>Internet Sharing
4. PC Connection: Bluetooth PAN
5. Network Connection: T-Mobile Data
6. Press Connect (the top left Soft Key near the green handset button)
7. Browse the web (I.E. Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, etc)

One thing that was different in my experience versus what's in the FAQ, I don't have the total internet package from T-Mo -- I'm using the $6 data plan along in conjunction with the proxy settings. That might be why I was getting such a slow connection, but to be honest, I never expended the energy to dig any deeper into the subject. Capable...but a bit apathetic in this case. :-)

C. What you are describing is called {PAN BLUETOOTH, NOT DUNN BLUETOOTH} for a personal area network {example Internet Sharing, using your Dash as a modem to connect to the Internet}, this is not dunn bluetooth! *If you believe the Dash can be used as a dunn bluetooth device, then try this {try using your Dash as a dunn bluetooth dial-up using *99# to connect another bluetooth dunn enabled smartphone, PDA, laptop or desk top PC to the Internet, bottom line it will not work, because the T-Mobile Dash does not support DUNN BLUETOOTH! I can take my old reliable Nokia 6620 a dunn bluetooth enabled device and use *99# to connect my Dell Axim X51v (a dunn bluetooth device) via the Internet to my home Slingbox to watch Directv Live. I cannot do this with my Dash for several reason, again and one reason being the Dash is NOT a dunn bluetooth supported device at this time!

Wizz/InterG, thanks for the clarification. I was not aware of the difference.

The exclamation points and caps were not necessary, however. They come across as rather abrasive and grace-less.

Yes, that's, unfortunately, the BT PAN approach. I really recommend my related article on the weaknesses of it.

Could you give a try to my Smartphone hacks on your Dash? Not having access to a Dash, I could only test it on my Vox. It *might* be working on other models.
