Version Information
• Windows Mobile 6.0 AKU 0.2.4 Build 17746
• CE Image: 1.25
Radio FW: 1.47.25.00

Admin edit: Link removed due to legal complaints from palm.

Installation and Upgrade Guide

• Plug the Treo 750 into a power source
• Load software update onto your miniSD card (CHEEIMG.nbh file). Insert the card.
• Press and hold both the PTTApp Button (lowest button on left side of device) + Pin Reset (next to miniSD card slot). You no longer need to hold the Windows key as well. You will be prompted to press the End key to start the update. This step takes about 10 minutes to complete.
• Hard reset the device when prompted. To hard-reset, hold the End key while pressing the pin reset button. Answer “yes” to “Erase all data” prompt.
• To verify the software, hold the Down-Arrow while pin-resetting. You will see:
o Firmware: R 1.47.25.00
o ROM: D 1.25
o Keyboard: U 26
• The Bootloader can also be confirmed by holding down the PTT button and pin resetting (without the updater miniSD card inserted)
o SPL: SPL 0.24

**SIDE NOTE**
People may want to mirror this before Palm steps in and makes XDA remove the link...

That means it's not finding the nbh file on your storage card. The simplest way to try to resolve this is to format the storage card in your Treo, then copy the nbh file over to the root of the storage card, and try again.

Thanks for the quick reply. I decided to format my 2GB card using FAT32 on my PC before reading your reply, and now it worked. So it seems that maybe the card must be FAT32 formatted, at least if the size is 2GB. Could this be the reason why it wasn't working before?

I have heard this too, but I also heard that the problem was that there was no SDHC driver for WM5, while there is for WM6. Apparently the latter is true. And BTW, you do not need to soft reset the device after putting the SDHC card as I had mentioned previously. All you have to do is Refresh the File Explorer and bingo, there is your SD Card...

Do you encounter any issue on your vodafone 750v? I am also on 750v and still deciding whether to go ahead with the upgrade... (I have downloaded it in case it is removed later).

Do you think we can upgrade to the official vodafone version if we do the upgrade to ATT version now?

ga41
28-07-2007, 01:33 PM
Well if we can upgrade from the WM5 vodafone OS to the WM6 ATT one i dont see how we wouldn't be able to put the proper Vodafone WM6.

I just installed it on my 750v and it works great. The device feels snappier and i had no errors or anything else. I'm now installing all the apps that i previously had on it.

Anyone knows how to remove those annoying ATT "customizations"? That AT&T splash screen when you close or open the phone is particularly annoying. Can someone point me in the right direction so i can remove it if possible?

There's been a few questions asked, and in the general excitment no one has been able to / has had the time to answer them. I'm wondering some of these same things :), so:

1) does this update affect the unlocked status of a device?

2) does anyone know if installing this update, invalidates the ability to install alternate updates later?

3) how non-beta is this rom? Does anyone know if AT&T is minutes, or weeks away from releasing? It would be nice to know the betaness, if possible, to make a more informed decision. After all, it would suck to install this, then find out that (as asked at 2) we can't reflash with the non-beta.. and are maybe stuck with a bug...

None the less, thanks for the rom!

Oh, by the way. Has anyone noticed the following:

4) how's the bluetooth now, with car kits / etc?

5) does the hack for disabling (via the registry) the AT&T proxy still work / still required?

Upgraded my Treo 750v from Vodafone, The Netherlands.

No problem whatsoever during this update.
Looks good. Don't think it will take long for the other operators before they release this ROM. But until know I'm an AT&T guy :)

@john_99
You place the image on the SD to flash the device. After the flash procedure, this will be your new ROM. So it's imposible to get WM5 after you remove the SD card.

this update doesn't affect the unlocked status of a device.

I have this question:

In settings-->about-->Phone:

I have Software version: TREO750-1.13CNG after this upgrade.

Shouldn't it be 1.25?

I am pretty sure that update was succesfull and hard reset is done.

I have upgraded my unlocked vodafone 750v which I bought in Singapore. It runs well and quite snappy. WM6 even automatically configures my Singnet internet connections and I am now on HSDPA. :)

My software version after the upgrade is still TREO750-1.16-VFE.

However I found out that if you have the keyguard on while on phone call, the speaker and mute buttons will be covered by the keyguard bar. :(

BTW, noticed that the Windows Live is missing from here. Anywhere that I can get it?
Nevertheless, thanks for the upload. Cheers.

Cingular Video does not work. It opens the page, but you get a message that it is not supported on this device. Powering the device off is flaky. For whatever reason, my device insists on powering itself back on if I power it off and back on again, and then off. All the ATT bullcrap makes for a device with much less space for storage as well.

Formatted the mini SD card as Fat32, copied the file over (82Mb) and put the card in the slot. With the phone on, pressed the bottom button on the keypad and, at the same time pushed the stylus into the reset hole. Held them both in and on, get the Palm screen with the progress bar and it goes to a Windows Mobile screen and then loads into WM5. What am I doing wrong please?
It's an unlocked UK Vodaphone 750V.
Can you shed any light on this please?

I just updated mine and I agree with everyone else: The ROM is absolutely worth it! Auto configuration of the settings even work (which surprises me most because I'm at Hutchinson in Austria and this is a ATT rom...). The ROM seems to be stable (well, as far as I can tell after a couple of hours). It is as fast as the WM5 ROM I used before (1.17.20.00) or even a bit faster. All standard WM6 Pro Apps are included. The only thing I miss is the support for the new Office 2007 file formats (docx, xlsx). But I guess this will be included in the official ROM update.

And what makes me most happy (except all the advantages of WM6) is: When you now go to "Sounds & Notification" and disable the "Display message on screen" check mark for New Emails, it actually does what it is supposed to do: It doesn't show a dammed message. This "bug" drove me crazy in the WM5 rom.

And also worth to mention: The Palm customizations as the "lookup field" on the today screen are still implemented. I thought maybe Palm gets rid of it now that Microsoft has implemented a similar feature to WM6 out of the box but they didn't. They tried to keep the handling as similar to the original as possible.

Ok, I seem to be having quite a few annoying problems, that I did not have with my previous AT&T unlocked phone.

1) I'm on Fido, and used this AT&T branded and unlocked phone with it only. However, it now thinks I'm roaming all the time, evne though I set my "preferred network". When I get mail, it asks me if I'm sure. My ringer is always on the "roaming" ring, and doesn't change between known and not known contacts. Any ideas?

2) this is quite a bit more annoying and serious. Whenever I try to go online, it never succeeds. Then, I open up my wireless settings for MyISP, simply *view* and then save my settings without changing a single thing, and it works. This is required constantly, or my device can not connect to the internet.

Again, any ideas? Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

That indicates that the ROM image isn't being found on your memory card. Check to make sure the card is formatted fat32, and that you have a good copy of the ROM on your card.

If you want the carrier to read "AT&T" instead of Cingular, you just need to get a newer SIM card from AT&T.

I broke it! I hard reset my phone. Then I formatted the memory card in FAT32 to make sure it was good. I then copied the file to memory card. Used the left bottom button and reset spot to reboot device. After reboot, able to press END/Pwr to start update. It goes all the way through the update to only a hair left on the end. At which point I get a fail message.
I have Cingular branded Treo that I use with my T-Mobile sim card. Battery fully charged. Tried this 3 times. If I reset, setup auto starts. If I take mem card out and reboot, I get the colored screen, with 'Serial' at the bottom.
This is what my screen shows:

Thanks!

1. I'm on Fido and have the roaming issue too... I had this problem on my Treo 650, not my Treo 750 with WM5. My guess is that it's because Palm took out the Fido GSM code with WM6. Hopefully it is back in with the final WM6 code.

2. I can connect with no problems. I did a hardware reset BEFORE flashing to WM6 thou. But I'm warned that I'm roaming and may result in additional charges. Quite annoying. Is there a way to turn this off?

The only issue I have with this new ROM is that it uses much more Storage Memory than the unbranded WM5. I estimate the difference somewhere close to 10MB. Should we consider this as due to WM6 itself or should we expect that it is due to all the ATT crap and that the unbranded WM6 upgrade will use less storage space? Which of the two seems more likely?

The email message is extremely silly. It should not prompt you when you manually get email, and it should not warn you.

The only way I could get it to turn off, was to set my email account to get email once a day (I don't want it automatically getting email ever, this was just the longest time I could set it to). After you do that, the 'advanced' screen has an option to turn off the warning.

Silly... considering that you're still getting the message manually. Definitely, 100% a bug.

Anyhow, this roaming is utter and complete BS, and it really shows MS's mentality. Hey MS, if you're ever going to do something automatically, make sure that automation can be TURNED OFF! Such as the lame changes due to roaming!

Now all of my rings, ring with the roaming ring! What the hell do I care about the roaming icon! Now I have to run and look at my phone, each time it rings?!

Anyhow, anyone have any "disable all and everything that has to do with roaming" ideas? I seached the forum quite a bit, for about two hours, and all I saw were hundreds of "maybe if I try this" posts. :(

It doesn't look good. :(

I was using an unbranded version of wm6 a couple of weeks ago and flashed back to wm5 because I was missing at least 50% of my calls. a major problem was that there was no way to answer a second call when I was already on the phone. it seems to be happening again with this at&t rom where I can hear the call waiting beep but there is no indication of who is calling and there are no buttons to answer the call with. I am also missing calls if a data connection is present. none of these problems are present when I use wm5.

am I the only one with these problems? does anyone know how to fix this? and yes, I have already made sure call waiting is active....

Also, my roaming issue doesn't seem to have a problem on the ring tones. I've setup different ring tones for different callers and it works properly. Each caller gets their own ring tone. I put in 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx for my phone numbers for everyone. Is this how you have your phone numbers in your contacts?

I'm not picking on you personally, but everyone says "definitely snappier".

Well, it's not, from what I've seen. I can only conclude that people are comparing a 3 month / 3 week / whatever install of WM5 to their fresh, new WM6 install.

Of course a new install is going to be snappier!

The only thing I miss is the support for the new Office 2007 file formats (docx, xlsx). But I guess this will be included in the official ROM update.

The ability to handle Office 2007 file formats can be added to this rom, using the cab-file from this posting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310832

Only disadvantage: installing this cab consumes a lot of additional storage (about 6MB). But if you need the ability for business communication it's still worth it.

I'm now getting the can't connect problem. But it seems to happen randomly and not all the time. Not sure if it's an app that is causing it. But will try to narrow it down later. By doing what you did, go into the internet settings, and save the settings seem to solve it. But very annoying.

And yes the roaming is stupid... Hopefully the release version solves this issue!

I think there's some confusion between terms here..let me see if this helps -

The lookup field and carrier/bluetooth bar are both a function of a Today screen item called "DialLookup". You can't get rid of the carrier/bluetooth portion without going into the registry and setting the "DialLookup" item to disabled, HOWEVER, you can hide just the lookup portion by going to Menu->Preferences->Hide Lookup Field. This would leave the carrier bar, which is what annoys most folks who care.

The problem though is the DialLookup item is also what watches the power/hang-up key for presses and either returns to the Today screen or puts the device in suspend. If you completely disable the DialLookup item, you lose the power button.

I'm messing around with the diallookup.dll and it's resource file to see if I can just get rid of the carrier name and bluetooth logo while allowing it to still function and catch power button presses. The problem that I'm having right now is that an unsigned .dll (one that I modify) won't load.

Why would you want to disable that bar anyway? Just use something like treo alert pro (which is free) to make use of the bar instead.

Is there a way of removing the "Get Express Mail" tab from the today screen? And is there a way of changing the soft button for Email to something else?
Thanks

Followed your instructions and got WM6 installed and working on my AT&T Treo 750 with the addition of needing to reformat my miniSD card to FAT32 and then copying CHEEIMG.nbh onto the card as suggested by someone else in this string. I reinstalled all my WM5 software and so far they all seem to be working fine under WM6. Thanks!!

ok, well i applied the updated and that part was easy...
all in all besides the at&t customisations, its great. how ever i cant get activesync to sync remotely for some reason. when connected to my pc it works fin, but it just says 'waiting for network' all the time while connected to my GPRS service.
i am on telstra in sydney australia. all calling features seem to work just fine though. i have unclicked the 'force at&t proxy' button too.
any ideas?
does anyone know where the unbranded rom is if i want to go back to wm5?

I did the upgrade at 4:30am in the morning, and it is a breeze... The version from this post of WM6 is definitely much more stable than WM5. However, on my unit it is a nanosecond longer when you press on the power button to turn it on, and see the screen comes up. Hey, but everything else is fast... Zoom!

I also discovered there's a place a few blocks from my home now shows H where previous only shows G with the 3G hack. It's definitely better if we get more 3G coverage with this update!

After the WM6 update, I've still applied other registery tweaks... It seems like a solid update! For those who have doubts, I practically replaced my laptop with this Treo 750, and it is working well with everything, contacts, tasks, calendar, IE, bluetooth headset, and GPS...

Many bugs are fixed and I feel wonderful about having a pocket PC device. A great peace of mind is what I had from installing this update!

Tom.

I had a problem of not recieving calls so I installed the audiopatch update and everything seems to be working fine. Probably because my software version still said TREO750-1.13-ATT

so are you saying that when you are on a call and another one starts to beep through you can see both callers info on your screen and have the option of answering or rejecting the new caller? i had no problem hearing calls. i also had a problem where my phone would not even ring if activesync is syncing

Thanks to the OP for posting this! Everything is working great so far for me.

The only thing I find missing from the old WM5 default ROM I previously had is the option to change the length of the Call History log. You used to be able to specify whether or not you wanted 1 month, 6 months, a year, forever, etc. and now I can't find this option at all. Am I just overlooking it?

I tried BB 4 and didn't work, exactly as on WM5, I have a Cingular device. The only thing I get is Network Available, after a while BB goes in "Suspended by user" state so I try to connect again but the same result. I haven't seen the "data tunnel" yet ... I still need to confirm ( 1001st time) w/ our ATT rep that my SIM is BB enabled though.

Did anyone try BB 2 ?

This BB Connect thing is the most annoying thing about the Cingular 750. I tried a thousand times and never worked. Can anyone find a hack or something ? I suspect Cingular/ATT disabled something in the hardware, I tried a while ago the Voda ROM and got the same results.

Good job guys w/ the ROM. So far works great for me. Also PhoneAlarm (pocketmax.net) seems to be working OK so far. I don't have any other apps installed, I'll probably give a shot 2morrow w/ Skype.

Good luck everyone,

I always use my spare 128Mb miniSD to update so I don't mess up my 2Gb miniSD which I use on my Treo, might be best to use a blank FAT32 card.

Some things I heard from various posts and concluded from details on this thread:
#1
If you want to update totally clean you should download the device reset tool from Palm's website first to clear all the private data. Some traces from the old setup will be there if you don't.
#2
You can use the tweaks from the WM5 as well as the new AT&T audio registry patch for the volume loss issue. This is needed when you replace the battery indicator with the updated indicator that has the speaker volume control.
#3
The Hermes Tweaker 1.1a finally was able to unlock the extended rom and was unable to do so when WM5 was there. You probably should install the tweaker so you can run non certificate applications because WM6 could possibly say no to the install but they may still work if they can be loaded.
#4
HSPDA oh my, who can use a Treo without it?
#5
Fixes Memory Card disconnect issue, memcard now does not unmount on its own like before. Probably best to format fat16 just in case.

Now who knows how to uninstall the preinstalled apps?

Well so far I have had *0* problems and only positive experiences with this ROM. No problems with calls, SMS, or anything.
I have only 1 issue and it's related to Seven mail beta. While Seven mail beta works, for some reason when i do a 'send/receive' or mark a message for further download, I get a warning that I'm currently roaming.
This only happens on the accounts I set up with Seven. If I set up an account directly in Outlook it doesn't have this issue.

So the problem is apparently with the way Seven sets up the accounts. An issue I'll take up with them if this problem makes it's way in to the official final release. I'm a little reluctant to report a bug against this ROM considering it's pre-release.

But otherwise it has been flawless. A sight of relief there, I was afraid of ending up with crap.

People say the OS is snappier. Well it is a little. There certainly isn't as much delay when launching apps, but once I got stuff loaded up on it slowed down a big just like WM5.
But the biggest gain is that the HSPDA works very fast! And PIE loads pages really fast too. The data performance in general has really improved in a major way.
I also love the fixes in outlook as well as the addition of HTML support.

These two things make it impossible to go back to WM5 :D

Granted, I'm new around here (and whomever posted the rom file -- thanks much), but couldn't you use hidelogo.dll to accomplish the same thing and not lose the power button?

I'll go back to lurking now...

BTW, I do get the H icon without having to reinstall the HSPDA hack for the AT&T/Cingular Treo 750.

Thank in advance!

I flashed my AT&T 750 and all went well. I was not able to activestink over my VPN connection but when i went in to work this mornign the sync worked without problem.

one nice new feature which surprised me is that my treo is now charging via the sync cable. I am 99.999% certain that it did not do this before but now it is. amazing that that was a software hack.

the system is snappier but the programs folder is littered with crapware, some of which is not workign yet and also the help system has a lot of missing entries but functionality so far is all there.

no probs with HSDPA connection either.

only bummer is that the poor signal reception is not improved!

I moved all of the preinstalled applications in the Programs folder to the storage card, and used Resco Explorer to change the shortcuts in the start menu/programs folder to point to the storage card, and they work fine. I deleted the Cingular folder in the Programs folder, which gets rid of the today plugin entry for express mail. I also got rid of all the ATT phonebook entries. As far as I am aware, none of the ATT crap is necessary to run the device.

Just found out that you do not need to install the Windows Live.

Go to Windows folder and look for WLMessenger and launch it.

But this Messenger stills copy all your MSN contacts to the phone book. Quite annoying, anyone knows how to prevent the Messenger Live from copying contacts to your phone book?

Just put the Contacts' IM addresses to Outlook Contact's IM field, and then you can delete the annoying new contacts without affect the MSN contact list.

Tried the ROM on a Treo 750v and the update went well. The only problem is that BB Connect 4 is now not working anymore. The Data Tunnel is available, but then the status of BBC turns to not connected. Interestingly, after going back to the WM5 original Palm 750v ROM the same issue stays!

Just grab a registry editor and do it yourself, save memory for better programs.

To disable the security warning when installing a non-certfied application, set:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\0000101a = 1 (DWORD decimal)
To restore the warnings:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\0000101a = 0 (DWORD decimal)

By the way, what happened to the WM5 Tweaks - Other wiki? it seems to be missing.

It sure would be nice if everyone would put some information in their signature about their device, carrier, locked status and the software they are using...especially for a thread like this one. It is difficult to tell what devices/carriers are having bugs/problems because folks are posting issues with little to no information. If we truly want this thread to be successful then please take a minute to add this to your signature. That way people can make informed decisions (and also help you much easier if you post a question). Thanks in advance. Great job everyone.

Good points:
- everything seems faster
- new icons look nicer and less "dated"
- all operator information (for Australia's 3 network) are preset
- i like the new themes

Bad points:
- only one... i can't get my bluetooth GPS to work with my Tomtom navigator to work anymore!!

I've updated an italian 750v and it's all ok. Operator settings (MMS, apn) are all preset at the first boot. Only one issue... when I place a call I can't see the box showing call informations (telephone number and time lapsed).

People have already said that BB4 doesnt work on this rom. But Can someone confirm whether version 2 works?? This is the only thing stopping me from upgrading.

Thanks!

Yeah, I did make sure the first file was 83.2 Mb, and I got nothing but the three colored screen that read "serial". This led me down the path of formatting the miniSD card but still no luck. The fourth download (listed as the correct ROM for cingular 750 users) was a folder with two files in it. The instructions were to load the first file (CheeDiag.nbh), then the second one (CheeeIMG.nbh) This one was more like 63.23 (?) Mb.
Anyone have ideas?
Anyone have a cingular 750 that they successfully loaded WM6 onto?
Want to share your file?

The main problem I have is that my 750v wants to keep powering up. I think it is related to push email. Sometimes when I press the red power off button the phone turns off. Other times it starts to power off and then powers on again.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Any idea how to fix it?

The Treo 750v (Germany) on the WM6 ROM definitely does not work with any BB version (tried 2 and 4). Even going back to WM5 with the Palm ROM after the WM6 upgrade will still not bring BB back, so if you rely on BB, I suggest you don't go there yet.

timirving: I had the same issue first when I formatted my SD card with fat only and not fat32. So, try to make sure it is formatted with fat32 and give it a try.

I think that Cingular only allows it on their network if a certain "code" is received. This hash code is generated by a combination of software version, firmware version, and possibly IMEI number.

Installed WM6. did a Goodlink Restore and then restalled other programs (TomTom Nav6, Resco Commander, etc). Flawless!!! Matter of fact the lag when first starting Goodlink after a reboot seems much less.

Hope that helps.

The only question I have is will I be able to upgrade to the ROW ROM when it is released? I have a Treo 750 ROW version at the moment. From memory, with the Treo 650, you had do to a work around to get the ROW installed on a carrier model? Do you guys think it will be the same this time around? If it is, I am considering waiting despite being really tempted to install WM6 now.

Not sure. There's some info in the Hermes forum regarding getting the necessary dll's and executables back on. Someone created a .cab installer, but I think it just contains the executables...you'll need the dll's as well (I believe there were about 4).

You don't need any tools, just HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\ EXT_FLASHDRV
"MountHidden"=dword:00000001 change 1 to 0

You can delete the contents in the extension-rom.

Just a word of warning for those that want to use this rom. It works, sure... but there are issues.

1) bluetooth is more broken than in WM5 for me. It was very usable in wm5, now it is not very usable at all. I constantly have my car kit thinking that my cell is in use, when it is not.

2) the phone takes a long time to connect to the network.. about 3x as long

3) data connections do not always work reliably.. in many cases I have to manually *view* (not even edit!) my network connections, and then it will work

4) roaming is a constant and complete irritant. Note, that you are roaming if you're anyone but an AT&T customer, likely.

There are other small issues here and there, but I sure hope this isn't even remotely the final beta for AT&T + Palm!! This is simply not ready for public use!

None of the above in my case. Exactly the opposite:

1) BT works better. My car's Handsfree works better and faster.
2) It tooks the same time to connect to the network.
3) Data connections are as fast as possible and robust.
4) Nothing about Roaming in my case.

It will have other issues, of course. But in my case, this ROM is simply much better than my old 1.16 Vodafone ROM.
