I haven't seen any software that can acquire traffic info via GPS if that's what you're asking. I don't think GPS sends that type of data but could be wrong. Maybe do a little research and see if GPS even provides this data.

Hi,

I'm using a Bluetooth GPS Receiver from GNS (http://www.gns-gmbh.de with integrated TMC Receiver instead of the integrated GPS Receiver of the ameo. For Navigation I'm using Navigon 6 and I'm very satisfied with this combination.

GNS has announced a Bluetooth TMC only Receiver for the end of the year. This Receiver should support devices with integrated GPS Receiver. Expected Price in Germany: 99 Euros

Regards Andreas

Yes that is what I am talking about.

basically, what i want is a TMC working along with TOMTOM/Copilot to plan the best route by avoiding the traffic.

It's a pity that your current one can not benefit from AMEO's built-in GPS. :-(

Too long to wait for the bluetooth TMC only unit ...

TMC info is broadcast in the FM/AM band and can't be picked up by a GPS reciever (unless it have a seperate radio to do so). If your using TomTom
it has TomTom Traffic, as long as you can get an internet connection, you can get traffic data from everywhere TomTom monitors.

With TMC data, your limited to only the local area traffic.

tomtom traffic is not free. at least it required internet connection.

I just wondering how limit it is for the TMC. As long as it can help to get around the local/nearby traffic jam, then it's fine.

Can't the TMC info be integrated into SatNat software? Or is there any free stuff?

Sorry for so many basic questions as I never use TMC module before.

Thx!

Hi Roaylmail,

the problem with TomTom is, that this software doesn't work with the "Standard"TMC information, that is available for free.
TomTom uses only information available from their own service, one of the main disadvantages of this Software: Downloading the information costs money twice: You need a GPRS or UMTS connection to get acces to this information and you have to pay TomTom for this service. This is not acceptable for me, so I use Navigon.
GPS itself doesn't support traffic information, you allways need some extra hardware like a TMC receiver or a internet connection (TomTom Solution).

In Germany we have now TMC Pro (Not sure, if this service is available in other countries), supportet by the the navigation software from klicktel and Destinator. The software company has to pay once 50 € or something like that for a lifetime licence for TMCPro http://www.tmcpro.com. Main advantage: The information about the traffic jam has a better quality and more details.

Andreas

I have been using TomTom6 for over 4 months, at no time has TomTom Trafice ever asked for a logon name/password, or code to get the traffic data. It should also be noted that in the EU, the tomtom traffic data is taken from the national TMC databases for each country. This way as soon as the
countries TMC data changes TomToms servers are updated in semi-realtime.

As for costing money for internet access, yes it may cost you to download the data, but the data packet it downloads is usually very small. Besides most
people that have an Ameo or other type smartphone prob. also have som form of dataplan (Either unlimited or up to xxMB). You only need to download the Data every 30min or so to stay informed. You can even connect via Wi-Fi
at home before you leave and grab the 1st data packet, then update as your drive. The largest Traffic packet I've seen was a dataset for the entire US, and it was still under 250KB..

Never realize that tomtom traffic is free. (I just try with WIFI connection)
In the past I was confused it with tomtom plus account which is not free.

I think it's worthy to upgrade my data plan for tomtom traffic rather than purchasing limitted TMC module.
Thx u guys !

bad news. after playing with tomtom traffic for free for few hours. I got below error:

Service activation failed (error code 1506).
You may get the error message 1506: Service activation failed – this means that you temporarily cannot activate your TomTom PLUS trial. Please try again later.

seems can't get this subscription service for free.
