Hi,

Can anyone tell me which is the best cooked ROM based on the official release ? Is Schap's Wm6 superior or Black Satin or some other recipe ?

Thanks

Depends
Sometimes I like Sleuth's rom more
Sometimes Black
Sometimes my own one

As you can read in a lot of other threads you have to test every single rom and find your personal favorite.

Schap's let ROM are more complete and run much faster than the Black one.

Though I do prefer the look of Black.

The best black I've used was Dymond 3.5, much faster than the later one

schap's is the best i've used and io've used nearly all
its by far the quickest and a lot more is included; like the advanced configuration tool and operator/voip settings, some of which cannot be found elsewhere

if you like the look of black you can download and add those files later; i.e. the dialer skin, the comm manager, the splash screen
but i say substance over style, and schap's rom definitely does not lack style and is oozing substance

Have been a long time Black user, but am trying Schaps latest just to see what all the hype about it being much quicker than Satin is all about.

Have set the performance measures to match what I was running Satin with, so should be a fair match.

Will comment after a few days.

Hello,

Schaps Rom is in German language, which a large advantage for us is Germans. In addition the optics with few handles is adapted, so which one differentiated between optically hardly one see can. Programs the Schaps version everything has which one needs, the remainder procures I me. I would not transfer anyhow.

I'm an AT&T (formerly Cingular) 8525 user. Having used and enjoyed most of JJ's "Black" series (with the exception of Satin) I was a fan.

Then I decided to try out vp3G's latest and have found the v3.0 "Official" (with bloatware stripped out) to be the fastest, most stable ROM to date.

No offense intended towards JJ's ROMs (I've donated about $100 to the guy)they looked great but tended to make my 8525 get laggy. Since burning vp's ROM my 8525 is zippy.

I have used both the roms Black Satin & Scahps latest Roms released on 28/07/07.

Schaps Rom has all the latest upadtes & patches as well all the new goddies.
On the hand black is not having any new updates as jasjam has stopped cooking further any new roms.

Schaps has advantage over Black as it has all latest updates as well as speed is concerned both roms are good.
I am currently using Shaps latest rom it is running pretty fine i would recommend going for Schap's Roms

Chalk up another vote for vp3G's "Official" ROM. Very stable, quick and responsive.

It all depends on what your looking 4. I've tried most every rom out there and they all have pros and cons. To me sleuths new rom is the best base to start with if you like doing some of your own customizing. Schaps had some problems 4 me, like activesync issues and lag, Black satin has some apps that are not the latest versions. Bottom line is read EVERYTHING and you will be able to set yourself up the way you want.

I haven't tried Sleuth's yet but I'm presently using schap's and have used his older ROM's as well with great success. Prior to that I was running Black and was pretty happy but it was sort of laggy/sluggish to respond with the dialer and through the settings menus.

Like has been said, they all have their pro's / con's... just gotta find what suits you best. Right now for me it is Schap's and if he keeps it up it may be for awhile but I think I'm going to backup my phone and try Sleuth's for grins and giggles sometime next week.

I must admit that I have tried the previous ROM's by JJ, but not Satin.
The reason for this is that there will be no more development work from his side. ( He is getting a new toy)
But the guy is great and thanks for the ROM's in the past.

I have had an issue with Sleuth's new ROM on the Calendar selection button. I have tried his worKabouts, but nothing worked. I even downloaded it again and reinstalled with the same results.

So I went to Schap's latest, and it must be his greatest. Surprisingly with all the extras included is is just as fast as Sleuth's new ROM, but without any issues so far.

My vote musy go for Schaps at this stage.

Schaps is probably my favorite but MS VC 1.6 will not work with it(with bt headset) so I have to use Black Satin..

Wish I knew why..

I use a lot of 3rd party software so I always load up my software and then test a ROM.

From my experience, I've usually had issues with Black ROMs... don't get me wrong... Black is an awesome ROM alone but for some reason.... it never played nice with my 3rd party apps.

I then moved to VP3G's 1.0 and that was fantastic. Never had any major issues.
Tried VP3G's 3.0 and I had problems/stability/performance issues. Again... works great alone but I'm a 3rd party app whore.

I then moved to Schap's 3.57a and so far so good.

In my case, 3rd party apps are a must. When I have problem with an 3rd party app and the developer says "Try another app instead..." I'm like, no thanks and move on to another ROM. I don't really believe in Chef loyalty.... rather in ROM stability and the ability to play with 3rd party apps nicely. Don't get me wrong... I respect most of our major ROM chefs (Lately...Schaps, JJ, VP3G, Sleuth, etc....) and I can't expect our chefs to test their ROM with every 3rd party app out there...

Bottom line, You have to try them all and see what works for your setup (with 3rd party apps installed n all).

I agree with you on JJ's "Black" series. They were great until the met the SPB products...

I use SPB Shell, PocketPlus, Back-up (though not lately as Scheduled BU doesn't work on WM6), Diary, and Weather. I also load Total Commander, HTC Audio Manager and Today plug-in and vp3Gs ROM still literally screams, not to mention I still have 14.81M of free program and 23.36 free storage.

Interesting the differences people experience with the same device and ROM.

I've been a longtime Black fan, Shadow, Majik, Satin. Also just recently used vp3G, it was fast and nice... and Schap's is badass! Credit to everyone because their is a different taste for anyone to go on. We must all be grateful that we are given options, thanks to all contributors.

....peace

I used all of JJ roms and Satin just did not work out .... Dymond being the best next to version Black 2....Trying all 3 Flavors of Satin, all failed trying to sync with Vista and would freeze after putting on Kaiser Home plugin....Schapps had no problems.
JJ is comming out with a new rom sometime,

My vote goes out to Schap's WM6 Pro 3.57a

not quite, has all the standard stuff but doesnt support Blackberry :) I Know Satin doesnt but Magik does and the next Black X will apparently. Not that I'm overly bothered as I should now be able to use Activesync at work...

Re: Satin vs Schap's I've been testing both for my own personal use (my mix of programs and needs). Started with Majik, moved to Shadow, then on to Satin. Loved it, but wanted to play some more and this thread got me to try Schap's.

Schap's was great, especially with the speed and built in 3G dialer. Unfortunately I didn't like the file explorer or the streaming media player skin. That and the look and feel needed some extra work to get it close to my liking, but it still wasn't quite there.

Aside from that they both have some issues. On Satin, I had to set up a work connection (to the same as my Internet connection) to get it to sync properly with WMDC. With Schap's for some reason at one point the WMDC caused the phone to delete my Exchange server settings and all of my synced emails (easily resolved by deleting the partnership again and starting from scratch).

Now I'm back on to Satin and I've used PimpMyBlack to change the UI font cache to 32768 and change the file system cache to 8192 (the settings Schap's uses) and the thing flies with all my stuff up and running. The speed of Satin is back at the level it felt like it was at with Schap's, plus I have the look and feel I've become accustomed to.

I've used Blak Majik and many others and I too really enjoy Schap's because of the 'completeness' and speed.

Hope this helps!

I am grateful to all of you who have replied. I think the obvious consensus of the majority is Schapp's ROM. I have some issues with Satin viz Internet Sharing which doesnt always work very well. The speed issues are also obvious...I thought WM6 was supposed to be faster than WM5 but no, not with Satin at least.

I will surely give Schapp a try.

Great reading everyones comments.

Thanx
