View Full Version : I goofed: Now my 4350 is no more

I know that this has been partly addressed in other threads, but I failed to find an answer so this is a desperate plea for assistance.

My 4350 is an unbranded and not locked device. This may (or may not) be of significance. It has a Swedish keyboard, and I *guess* that the rom also was swedish (no way to find out right now I guess). Current version numbers are

IPL 1.08.0001
SPL 1.08.0001
GSM 02.71.90

this is all that is shown after my failed attempt to flash the device with a WM6 image. Maybe I did not pay attention, maybe the flash failed for another reason.

Anyway, I downloaded the PDAVIET ROM WM6.0 v4.12.07.05, discussed here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318962

During the flashing, I got a single error saying

ERROR: ITWriteDisk - The drive cannot find the sector requested.

Edit: I guess this was caused by me forgetting to disable power save in the device. At least this was hinted by someone else in another thread. Am I correct?

After the failed boot, I tried to write another rom image using the RUU program. The RUU failed to identify the current image version, and when I proceeded to write the new rom 5.4.405.1, the progress bar on the handheld goes to 2%, and then reboots. The RUU then says "ERROR 294: INVALID VENDER ID"

So what can I do now? Except call to HTC support and see if they can help me to revive the device ...

More important, what did I do wrong?

If you get the message that says INVALID VENDER ID then it means that you are using the wrong RUU. For example I have a WWE device and if I used a Russion RUU I would get a invalid vender id error or vice versa.

The only solution for you at this moment is to find a swedish RUU. If there isn't a swidish RUU then you will have to wait untill the WM6 RUU is released.

ok, I understand that by now. But what if I can find a person that owns a Herald with a V5 Swedish rom. Is there a way to "suck" the rom out and then re-install it on my device?

I think that I have read that you can dump the rom to the SD card, but I can not find the posting. Anyone? :o

I have heard of this before but I don't know how to do it sorry.

You can make A ROM Dump (check the WIKI for more info) but you will not be able to flash this dump on your Herald.

ok, so what is the point of doing this ROM dump if the result is useless

Ah that is true because the only method that we herald/wing/terra users have at this moment AFAIK is using asergs methods which would require you to be in a working OS. Correct?

Totally correct! we need OR the official HTC WM6 update, RUU in your own language (for a working OS), OR a modified bootloader that allows unsigned code..
