View Full Version : A very special request

What I am going to request is a desperate attempt to bring back to life my Uni which has served me so well in the last year.

A few weeks ago I dropped the device while it was connected to pc and as a result the charge and sync connector was broken.

I managed to repair only the charge function since the sync one obliged to replace the motherboard (approx 200 Euro worth).

Due to this I can use the device but no usb sync (only trhu Bluetooth).

I am using an old WM6 ROM and I would like to update to the latest one (with videocall) but this is not possible with a broken sync connector.

So, my request is, could a good friend in this forum post a backup image of an updated device, made with sprite backup or other backup program so I could flash restore it from an SD card?

As far as I can see this is the only way I can flash a new ROM to my Uni...

I would be most thankful to someone who could help me in this situation.

Thanks a lot for all your help

A restore from a backup file won't flash the rom

Hi,

The only way I can think of to upgrade your Rom without a USB data port is via the SD Card flash process.

However if the device is working, I wouldn't take the chance of flashing it, becuase if anything goes wrong the only way to recover is through MTTY which requires you to connect to your pc with the USB cable.

Thus my advice is leave your Uni as is.

Cheers,

Hi,
Don't take the chance of bricking your Uni m8.

If you are that desperate to upgrade the Rom, then get your port fixed first so that you have a means of recovering from a bad flash.

If you are comfortable with soldering you can do it yourself, it's a relatively simple job to re-attach the USB port. If you are not comfortable then send the device off for repair, most specialist repair shops will charge you around £40-£60 to attach a new port. Some electronics repairers will do it for about £10.

Cheers,

The problem is that the mainboard has some damaged tracks and must be replaced...And I don't want to spend so much money.
So, flash through SD card is the only possible way.

Thanks anyway
