Feel free to share it with anybody. BUT PLEASE DO NOT PUBLISH BINARY ON YOUR WEBSITE, link to mine. (And that includes: binary, zip, OEM version, cab remake, package, ROM.).

http://www.pocketcm.com/img/themes/touch2det.png

For those who don't know PocketCM or ContactManager, it's a contact application:

What it does:
- Can be used completely with finger, no need for stylus
- tapping the contact make appear a screen with contact info (photo, name, phone, sms and mail). Selecting one option launch the default compose dialog or make the call. You can also change the contact picture from the detail directly.
- display contact photo if present (in the list and the contact detail).
- allow you to see SMS conversation history
- fully skinnable
- All basic contact operation
- Access to WM contact application if required (for some specific operation taht can't be done using PCMC).

Build a theme:

History

For a complete changelog, you can look here (http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,51).

Version 0.15
* Edit before call option: press a call button for 250ms, you'll be able to edit the number
o If you press a contact for 250ms in the list, you can call the contact directly
* SMS optimization, read message faster, doesn't block the device
* Support for second and third e-mail address.
* 40% improved startup time
* PocketCM 0.10 support
* Fixed for landscape mode
* Bug fixes
* Lighter executable, about 200Kb less

Version 0.14
- Current index position indicator
- Better list scrolling feedback at beginning and end of list
Option menu to choose theme (Theme don't need to be called theme.cmt anymore, they can be called anything.cmt. Put them in the program folder, hold the phone button for a second, choose option, then choose theme, and pick the one you like)
- SIP setting is persistant and independant of Windows Mobile: You choose the SIP you like (or no sip) and it will be used by PCM no matter what SIP you're using in WM
- Staying pressed on a message mark it as read/unread
- Fixed PCM looks without theme (it's definitly better with a theme, but is usable).
- Bug fixes
- And yes for some really annoying people (I hope they have some sense of humor), an option to get out of fullscreen

And of course you can get the stuff: here (http://www.pocketcm.com)

exams very well thanks... and finally holiday for a month!! :) my version about scrolling is already usable... I have to make a class to make some nice bitmap buttons, assign commands for direct call and direct SMS (they are just two strings of code) but the most is done... all the other are features to add, I'm using just C++ and API why you choosed to use MFC ? I think you could do it without, it's better.

Wow.

I have to admit this is very impressive. Small memory footprint, fast, elegant...!

And thankfully no .NET, lol.

That threaded SMS is very nice as well. That's a huge bonus.

Couple of things/requests:

- 240x240 support
Right now, it's mostly okay. But in a Contact, some of the formatting gets cut off.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j277/malatesta77/Screen001-20.png

- Type as well as scroll
I understand the primary purpose is to scroll with your finger, but what about having something similar to other Contact managers? So say I want to find "Steve" I type S-t-e with each letter narrowing down the list. Right now, I can type "S" but if I hit "T" it jumps to all of the "T" contacts. Also, better D-pad support. Like say I hit "S" it would be nice then to select each contact by using the D-pad.

I obviously use a Treo so it's much faster for me to type than scroll with the KB always open.

- Any plans for further integration of the threaded SMS into the system?
Like hooking into the notifications and having it "take over" from the default system? I would suspect this is very difficult, yet you've certainly proven yourself already with this app!

The graphics and transitions are simply superb too.

best,

Mal

hi,
thx for this new version but at the moment i will stay with contactmanager 0.11:
1. the alphabetical index on the left has smaller letters than in the .net cf version.
2. scrolling in the previous version works better. the new one has an unnatural acceleration during the scrolling.

edit:
3. on the previous version i could tap for example on "W" and it jumped to the last contacts in my list, which start with the letter "T". in the new version nothing happens.

edit2:

could you please try this:
the current problem with the alphabetical index is that i want to use the device one-handed. while it is in my right hand i have to use my right hand's thumb to use the index. using the left (visible) index means, that i have to stretch my thumb over the whole screen and it often covers display of the currently pressed letter. and with the invisible index on the right holding the device gets a bit difficult and it could drop if i am in the bus for example.
i wanted to ask you if you could try, how a horizontal alphabetical index on the bottom would work. it that too small on a 2,8" display or could it be useful?

Bugs

1. When I press the the hide button it actually exits the program.

2. Text on the Favorites screen is off the screen at the edges.

edit: I also agree with LordDeath that the alphabetical index on the left side should be bigger like on the .Net version.

how to i adjust the settings for the new PocketCM? in the older version (.11) there was a settings.ini file, however, i dont see such a file in the .zip folder. am i missing something here?

Bugs with 0.5

1.) Contact pictures in details view are cropped in the middle of the picture, so it appears there's missing pixel rows in the middle.

2.) When favorites is empty, the text displayed on the favorites screen runs off the screen, it should be word wrapped.

Great works so far!

Is it possible to tweak the speed of the scroll/flick?

Wow so much faster, its great.

Just to offer my 2 cents
1. I love the SMS Threader. Anyway you make the keyboard retractable? Possibly change the font size even?

2. Also related to the keyboard. its actually very good, I just find it difficult to get the buttons on the edge because of the design of the 8525 in my case. Maybe to move the Q,A, etc in a little more? Maybe im retarded but I tried writing 'mwah' to my gf and I hit s instead of a 4 times in a row, lol

3. Lastly, can we set up the order that the contact page is displayed for a particular contact. IE right now it looks to be in a strange order (for me anyway) ..showing Company, Home, Work, Mobile, then SMS. Ive love to have Mobile, then SMS then whatever. Or something like that. If we could modify it that would be even better.

Thanks for taking my input. =P
Great product!

I like it better then the ContactManager version but I have one problem your keyboard does not suport many of the letter we use in my contry like æøíóýð so is it posible to not use your keyboard and insted just use the one inside WM6? I know I can use the builtin keyboard but I don't want the one built into the app to show

Hi tene

Just tested your new work. Superb! Few observations:

1) To fast scroll, move finger across the full screen. Short scroll, just the centre portion. Cool!

2) Threading SMS display not perfect yet. When I switched from keyboard to Phonepad, the sms threads moved up automatically, but it didn't display properly until I touch it, move it. But the fact that you can read your previous sms is... cool too!

3) Sending of SMS, no problem I believe, cos' it appears in the Messaging 'Sent' box. Will know when my wife reply. :)
- But one thing that's strange. In the 'Sent' box, it didn't show the my wife's name, but just the phone number. Any idea how come?

4) The 'twirling' effect - moving from contact screen to SMS panel is COOL!

5) Index scrolling.. You lengthen the display of letters is also a great enhancement. Not so easily block by hand now.

6) Index scrolling 2 .. When you scroll to 'E', it will stop at E section (with the 'E' title bar on top). Think this is good cos' it's very clear that you are at the section of your selection.

Overall, a great job!! :D

Definite improvement over 0.11--good job!

Observations
--Loads much faster as advertised!
--I like the scrolling effect in 0.11 better. It was smoother, but now seems less fluid and "stiffer"
-- New single letter headers to break up the contacts list is interesting--not sure I like it yet
-- How do I delete a contact? Appears I have to select the contact, tap to bring up the menu, tap to view contact, then click menu softkey then delete and another tap to confirm...too many steps (6 taps on screen). Can you add a "Delete contact" option with confirmation in the menu for eact contact? Wouls reduce to 4 taps anyway...
--PageDown and PageUp were not added as mentioned in 0.11 thread--can you consider adding this to function just like up/down on the d-pad?

It seems as if the A-Z index on the side is designed more in mind for one-handed operation for left handed people. Is there any way you'd consider adding an option in the settings.ini file to allow us to move around components? Say for example, moving the A-Z index bar to the right side, move contact pictures in the list view, etc.

Other than that, the only things I'm not wild about is the 'snappiness' of the scrolling as opposed to how soft it was in the previous version, and the small area on the details page to use a finger gesture to go back to the contact list. The last one isn't such a big deal, but the other two would definitely improve usability.

Absolutely fabulous application (as before) and now lightning fast!! Thank you!

I love the SMS Threader. However, I noticed, that the sort order is not always correct. I send an SMS at 19:55 and received an SMS at 19:56. However the last one was put above the first one on the list.

Also: Where is the settings.ini? In my Zip.file of PocketCM there was none.

TalynOne
1st August 2007, 08:30 AM
Read the "Build a theme" section in the original post.

The settings are stored in "theme.cmt". It's just a zip file. There should be a "settings.ini" in the "theme.cmt" file, that you can mess with.

You can do this by :
1.) Renaming "theme.cmt" to "theme.zip"
2.) Unzipping theme.zip to a temporary folder
3.) Modify the settings.ini to your liking
4.) Zip up the contents of the temporary folder
5.) Name the zip file theme.cmt.

Looks great.

Thanks

A couple of observations: Can't change order of phone numbers, if you have a few numbers for a contact the normal mobile contact number ends up off screen, where secondary numbers appear at the top of the list.
Does not seem to be a way to show email address on the contact screen, used to be able to do this thru the .ini.
When using the indexing (which works very well) the "letter" in the bar is too close to the scrolling finger, would be nice if it was in the middle of the screen (portrait mode) so it can be seen when using either hand.
Also I have seen when in portrait mode that when you select the contacts picture the drop down box can come up with 3 x 2 boxes ( 2 lots of 3 side by side) insrtead of the 6 in a row.

Please ignore part of this email, will play with the theme editing to see if it solves some of my issues :-)

Keep up the great work

I really like this contact manager, it's one of the best one's I've used, and I like it better than the others that do similar things. I do have a couple of suggestions, bugs, etc.

1. There is an odd word wrap with the home address when looking at a user. I'm getting something like

123 main
st.
somewhere
AB

as the address next to the picture.

2. When going from portrait to landscape then back, the menu doesn't go back to landscape view

3. The informational wording on the "Favorites" page has no word wrap, so you can't read everything. I see "by tapping on a contact picture and se".

4. I like the scrolling, could you put a desceleration on it? I saw a contact manager that goes fast, then slows down, it's a cool effect. Perhaps an option?

5. Have options available with no settings.ini. It's too much to open that up and change things, it would be nice to have a form that you could fill out. Also, it's an interesting idea to put the theme in a renamed zip file, but it makes changing that way to annoying. Could they go in their own directory instead?

6. It seems like just the Home address gets put on with the picture, not the Work address. I don't think both could fit (maybe they could?), but it would be nice to see work if it exists.

Like I said, I really like this contact manager. Keep up the great work, you'll put Apple out of business :)

Damn this is good!
The only thing that could possibly be improved is the scrolling, so it is more natural. It actually speeds up at the minute as you scroll. When the scrolling is sorted and we can create themes it will be perfect!

EDIT: Also, when I go to favourites on my Wizard the text goes off screen. It would also be nice to have the option to add another contact. (I may have missed this somewhere)

PUBLIC BETA: this is a public beta... feel free to share it with anybody. BUT DO NOT PUBLISH BINARY ON YOUR WEBSITE, link to mine

For those who don't know PocketCM or ContactManager, it's a contact application:

What it does:
- "classic" finger scrolling
- tapping the contact make appear a screen with contact info (photo, name, phone, sms and mail). Selecting one option launch the default compose dialog or make the call. You can also change the contact picture from the detail directly.
- display contact photo if present (in the list and the contact detail).

What's different:
- if you press you finger on the left or right border of the screen it will allow you to select the letter you're searching for, release the finger, it will show you the contact starting with this letter. For me that's the way to go in touch interface: release should trigger the event, push should only provide visual feedback, I'd like a visual kb like this.
- the contact detail is not the standard one, you can show only the information you want (and it's animated ;).
- the list is animated (scrolling) and the transition between list and detail also.

From ContactManager here's what's new/modified:

- Native version: this version doesn't use .NET compact framework, it's written in C++
- Faster version: I've put some time improving performance, on my device, it goes quite well, tell me about you.
- Faster display: drawing is also optimized, however, it may have some issue for advanced theming, tell me about it.
- New fade effect while calling/edit conact/set picture, this offer a better transition between application, tell me what you think.
- Contact update if added/changed/deleted from other application (including activesync).
- Memory footprint: No more .NET crap, picture of contact should also take less memory.
- Ability to remove contact picture
- Edit contact now goes to edit page directly
- New contact now goes to edit page directly
- New theme packaging (a theme in one file instead of many)
- Letter bar between contact
- New setting for non latin alphabet (coming with localization but now it's technically possible).
- SMS conversation panel: hitting SMS button now goes to an SMS page. It will allow to send an SMS display

previous conversation with this contact... and introduce my new SIP method. The purpose is to test/enhance the

SIP in PocketCM then port it to a real SIP once it's working. (debugging SIP is more painfull than debugging application... that's why).

Known issue:
- Favorite from ContactManager aren't favorite in PocketCM
- No fullscreen (is it even useful?)
- No endless scrolling (buggy in .NET version anyway).

Build a theme:
- Future release will include a theme selector, for now the theme loaded is always theme.cmt

cmt file are zip file (only with cmt extension). The theme is almost the same as before, some more settings. Ask me/show me what you need. The objective of this beta is to get a decent skin system... so people could create them... and download theme from pocketcm.com. Also the theme is loaded, then the settings.ini, so for instance if your theme define contact order to be "%title %firstname %lastname" where your settings.ini tell "%fileas", "%fileas" will be used. This should allow user to use theme while keeping their specific setting. This would also allow user to simply tweak a theme.

SIP - SMS Panel
- SMS should display your current SMS
- Future release will handle incoming message, for now it's still the classic SMS crap from WM.
- Future release will probably include option to not use SMS panel.
- Keyboard use a dict.txt (french and english provided, rename the file) and will add your custom word in word.txt. (future release may include a faster file format, however, that's not so bad now).
- Hitting send shoudl send the SMS directly, I got some trouble with it, tell me about it.
- You can scroll the suggestion list as any other list
- Keyboard should use a picture, if you have a nice keyboard picture that match the current layout, tell me.

Customizing keyboard layout
- you can customize your keyboard layout, for instance the default is:
keyboard_layout_1=qwertyuiop\nasdfghjkl'\n\Bzxcvbn m.\n\M \N

\n is a break line
\B is the backspace key
\M is the mode key (allow you to cycle between layout1 to 4)
\N is the enter key
Other key are the letter, so for this layout_1 we have:

qwertyuiop
asdfghjkl'
\Bzxcvbnm.
\M \N

that will look like a simple querty keyboard.

For a french keyboard, you can for instance add this (in the settings.ini file):

keyboard_layout_1=azertyuiop\nqsdfghjklm\n\Bwxcvbn '.\n\M \N

keyboard_layout_1=azertyuiop\nqsdfghjklm\n\Bwxcvbn '.\n\M \N

You can define keyboard_layout_1 to keyboard_layout_4 every time the user press the \M key it will go to the next.

Dictionnary suggestion: the SIP will make suggestion based on the key you press. It use dict.txt. Tell me about it.

Last thing, it would be great to discuss this version on pocketcm forum, please create an account, I'll give you require access.

Version 0.2

- fixed bugs, added favorite, fixed labels, added "view..." option to view notes, fixed animation speed, added more setting to play with.

Version 0.3

- fixed bugs
- added new transition effect for sms
- keyboard disappear in landscape mode
- better landscape mode support
- Unless there is big bugs, or you promise me a skin for yesterday, this version will be come public! So please provide feedback[/b] Also could some of you provide feedback on the keyboard?

Version 0.4

- Localization is back, previous file works, however you have to name the file "lang.ini" (not lang.fr.ini for french for instance).
- Added support for landscape only settings: prefix with "landscape_" the name of the setting it will only apply for landscape mode. For instance landscape_separator_item_height will only change the separator item height for landscape.
- Bug fixes: separator_item_height setting, contact_button_list_box
- Layout engine now should work better.

Version 0.4b
- Reduced loading time of 3000 milliseconds
- fixed favorite_contact_height setting changing menu button height.
- fixed theme loading bug that prevent button image to work with default Touch theme.

Version 0.5
- Bug fixes, bug fixes and bug fixes
- Setting fixes
- Button can be on more than one column

And of course you can get the stuff: here (http://www.pocketcm.com)

I can't access to the website that you've suggested, even by trying many times on different pcs. Do you have another link which I can gain access? Thank you.

Hi

You can add contact to 'Favourites' by going into the detail page of the contact, click on the photo and the drop down list will have the feature of 'add to favourite' (or something like that).

1. There is an odd word wrap with the home address when looking at a user. I'm getting something like

123 main
st.

That's a bug, add

contact_description_box=83,31,234,101

in a settings.ini file that you put in the program folder, it should make it ok, if not, tell me

2. When going from portrait to landscape then back, the menu doesn't go back to landscape view

I'll look into it... however, does anyone know a program that put it self in the top bar (start menu bar) that allow to switch between portrait and landscape? For now I have to switch to today screen and click, and that force my app to repaint itself, so it looks always good for me.

3. The informational wording on the "Favorites" page has no word wrap, so you can't read everything. I see "by tapping on a contact picture and se".

fixed in next version.

4. I like the scrolling, could you put a desceleration on it? I saw a contact manager that goes fast, then slows down, it's a cool effect. Perhaps an option?

I've changed a bit the scrolling algo, it should look more like ContactManager. Next step would be to make it a setting.

5. Have options available with no settings.ini. It's too much to open that up and change things, it would be nice to have a form that you could fill out. Also, it's an interesting idea to put the theme in a renamed zip file, but it makes changing that way to annoying. Could they go in their own directory instead?

Actually that's more complex than that:

The order is as follow:
- PocketCM load the theme (a zip file containing a settings.ini)
- PocketCM load the lang.ini
- PocketCM load the settings.ini

So image the theme define a custom index, the lang.ini define an index for the language (with russian letter) and you want a specific index. This way, it will just "work".

The objective would be to make great theme so non-advanced user can get the look other are sharing... and theme designer can simply use the settings.ini to tweak their theme, once they got something good, they package it as a cmt file (zip file) and can share it. A user than want to test a theme can just download a copy one file.

6. It seems like just the Home address gets put on with the picture, not the Work address. I don't think both could fit (maybe they could?), but it would be nice to see work if it exists.

That's also a new thing with PocketCM: position of photo, detail, header text and button can be customized. You can put them where you want, for so make a bigger space if required. or make the picture at the bottom, the phone list at the top, etc...

However one missing thing is a "available address field" that would use business if present or home if present. Like there is already for %phone, %phone is the first available phone number.

Like I said, I really like this contact manager. Keep up the great work, you'll put Apple out of business :)

Well, just a reminder: I'm not apple user, I don't know iPhone (it's not available in Europe yet), I've never touched one.... and I'm not trying to copy iPhone. I'm just trying to make a decent contact application with lot of customization. From my understanding Apple is more trying to make a very good phone with great app that you can't customize.

Its a very neat and nice app. Good speed imporvement when compared to CM.

1.I couldnt find any settings.ini file by default. Should I create one?
2.Is there any setting to adjust the length of the selection Text which is displayed with blue background. When using with left hand I couldnt see the texts. So just wanted to reduce the length of the bar

Makes things better for me by changing this line, but it's still not quite right. Only the first part of UK postcodes is displayed, and if an address has more lines than average, the postcode is not displayed at all.

I'm also finding that the 'code' for business addresses is being displayed rather than the addresses themselves.

Other than that, this is a wonderful tool which is quick and easy to use

Cheers!

Great program! I am a diehard user of versin 0.11. This is on a Sprint Mogul PPC6800 with WM6.

Some concerns though, and reasons why I will still use version 0.11.

.5 does not seem faster loading, in fact it takes a good second to load, and I see the "loading contacts" for half a second before it loads making it seem sloppy. In 0.11 the first load took a second or 2, but then after that it loaded instantly. In .5 every single time it takes a second to load. I'd rather have 0.11.

No option to change settings. I'm sure you are working on this, but it would be nice to increase the font size to be the same as 0.11, MUCH easier on the eyes. Also it seems like the pictures get cropped more in .5.

The letter separator is horrible, it breaks up the screen and is unnecessary in my opinion. Others may like it, so is it possible to turn this off in settings?

I haven't played with it so may have more suggestions. So far I am definitely going to stick with version 0.11 as it serves my needs best.

I did want to post a big THANK YOU for this program in general, I have been asking about something like this for YEARS. It is awesome overall and I am very appreciative of the hard work you put into this.

So make the change, there is a forum dedicated to theme on pocketcm.com.

The sad part: most people will make one change for them, and won't share it with other... I was dreaming about getting 2 or 3 good theme for ContactManager, only a few, working on some very specific device... I'll probably stop freeware.

Lovely work on the new application. For me it works better than the 0.11.

The only few issues that I have at this moment are these:
1) I'm not sure the proper installation process to link the PocketCM to my phone so i just installed 0.11 and then replaced the contents in ContactManger with the 0.5 thus renaming NativeContactManger.exe to ContactManger.exe and that has solved that problem.

2) When I click on View Contact I just get a Blank Page with the Back and Hide buttons still showing. I currently have no means of deleting a Contact because of that. The problem may be specific to my machine not sure.

I'm using AT&T 8525

Wow dude chill out, you shouldn't take my suggestions personally. I love the program and was just giving you feedback on a beta. Isn't that the purpose of a beta, to solicit feedback?

As for 20 seconds to open in the version 0.11, if that was the case I would have thrown the program away long ago. Fortunately its like 2 seconds the first time it opens, then instantly every time after that. Versus 0.5 which is a second or so every time for it to open.

I'm only trying to help you by offering feedback and suggestions. If you want to call your users "stupid" for trying to offer this feedback and suggestions then it's not me that has the problem.

What device are you using? because from the time I tap the exe, to the time I have all the contact loaded, it's about 20 seconds with the .NET version. I'm surprised it's so fast on other device (let say HTC Touch sucks :p).

I'm only trying to help you by offering feedback and suggestions. If you want to call your users "stupid" for trying to offer this feedback and suggestions then it's not me that has the problem.

Well I'm not calling you stupid, I'm just telling that the new version is technically better (believe me I know why...), so from a technical point of view, the native version is the better. And I said, I don't really care... as long as you're happy.

Also I'm just starting to be a little pissed of by people that don't even read the document I wrote. It's not you specifically, but I'm spending LOT of times answering question, always the same, in many places...

Also deciding to use or not use an application after only a short test seems a bit fast to me... if you want to beta test, I appreciate it, but maybe if you spend more time with it, test the new settings, see what you can make out of it, it would be more helpful. The idea would be to be a real beta tester, that help development, not just the guy that come around, unzip two file, say two or three critics, and go out. Don't you think?

tene,

I am not sure if this is a good suggestion, but to avoid people getting confused, maybe you can inform that the CM 0.11 is now discontinued?

Great app, btw. As soon as I got a WM 6 phone (The Kaiser), I will try (or even buy your app if not freeware anymore) and create a nice themes for you. At this moment, I dont have WM at this moment, only WM2003SE.

Btw, looking into most of the screenshots, for example this one:
http://pocketcm.com/phorum/file.php?8,file=47

It looks "blocky" (rectangle). Is it generated (drawn) by the app?

Or can I create background image using PhotoShop and use it?

It would be nice if that can be done, because in this way, we can be more creative. Rounded rectangle with nice bevel and drop shadow.

Euh... I thought it was pretty clear, it's on the contactmanager thread, on my website, on this thread. Where else should I put it?

You can customize about everything. Color, image, position, etc... there are some information on pocketcm forum.

This is a sweet product! Thx for the continued work!

I was wondering if there was a way to place the finger-scrolling index letter on the left side of the virtual tranparent tab so you're not covering it when you slide your finger up and down to find the correct index of the contact. I use my right hand usually to scroll, so my finger(s) cover the letter as the horizontal label changes based on finger position.

Again, much continued success on this little gem!

I prefer the threaded or conversation style of interface versus the built in app. Keeps all my SMS grouped by the person I am having the conversation with. See screenshot

The application completely takes over SMS for the phone when installed. So calling the program would be the same as calling the default SMS for a windows mobile device, just as your previous versions did.

contact_separator_line_color=-1

feedback_text_x_position=center

scroll_friction=1.03

i tried creating a file named Settings.ini and placing those three commands in there, then puttin the file inside the folder with the NativeContactManager.exe, theme.cmt, dict.txt, and dict.en.big.txt files, but all it does is make my background white. what am i doing wrong? are my commands even right?

Send me your settings.ini file I'll look at it. (shouldn't make your stuff blank)

Anyway, feedback_text_x_position is in pixel and only change the text position. If you want the image at another position: change the image (with for instance a bigger transparent border on the left).

Personally i think that is bad contact management, i always go by, 1 contact = 1 person, so john & jane is 2 seperate entries, even if you have to duplicate most of the info....

tene, couple of probs i cant work around on a wvga tosh g900, when pressing contact pic to reveal the menu, its 1/2 width like its still qvga, the sip also suffers from this. and the sms threading is chopping the date in half on each "bubble", other than that this is leaps and bounds ahead from ContactManager.

Your not just rewriting the contact list with this, its heading towards a full shell replacement!!! i love it

This will all be in Settings.ini. It seems as if you have a Settings.ini in the PocketCM folder it will overwrite the settings that are in the theme.cmt. In addition, if you call an image using the Settings.ini that is just in the PocketCM folder that is not in the theme.cmt, it will fail to use the image.

Tene, I've tried modifying some stuff but need a little (EDIT: maybe a 'medium sized') help.

Please can you tell me what I need to do and how for the below.

*Change the background of the small letters to the left to WHITE

index_gradient_start=255,255,255
index_gradient_end=255,255,255

*Change the 'pressed button' colour when a contact is selected on the main screen

I'm actually trying to figure this out myself.

*Slow the scrolling speed so it doesn't accelerate, and make it how it was on the old contact manager.

It doesn't accelerate, it decelerates. When you first push the list obviously it will go faster simply because you are moving your finger faster.

"scroll_friction" is the var that controls this. Experiment with it to find what you like.

*Remove the small phone numbers from under the contacts name

Comment out "contact_secondline_formatting".

*Change the font colour for the 'Mobile' and 'SMS' buttons on the contact screen

# font used for button
button_font=12,bold
button_text_color=190,190,190

Obviously choose the color you'd rather have.

*Change the colours of the two different SMS history boxes

Thank you so much in advance! I have looked around at it but got very confused, I did however managed to change a few of the settings.

I have no idea how to change the SMS coloring either.

I have a question as well. Why can't I get an image to show up as the separator_image? Am I using the wrong variable or something? I can modify everything else that has to do with the separator except making it an image. Any help?

Tene. Keep up the great work. Been using CM since you released it, and I gotta say, you just keep raising the bar. The new program works awesome and is quick as a whip. The scrolling doesn't seem as natural, but I'm sure that'll get tweaked as you go along, so I'm not worried about it. I just wanted to say keep up the great work and try not to get discouraged. Tene,

I too use the Palm SMS Threader. When you clicked on "SMS 5555555" in CM .11 it worked perfectly and brought up the correct window in the Palm SMS Threader. It would be great if you could add a flag in the settings that would switch between making the default system call to create an SMS and using your built-in Threader.

With the Palm SMS Threader installed, when I tried to send a message with your interface, it pops up as a bubble above the input box, but the recipient doesn't recieve it right away. About 5 hours later the "Message Sent" notification popped up and my friend called me to tell me that he got my test message. I'm sure this is just an incompatibility with how the Palm SMS Threader takes over the SMS messaging system, but I figured it's worth pointing out.

I understand that your reason for including the SMS app was to test your SIP Panel. So even though I'd like a way to use my existing Palm SMS app, I will keep testing your app with each release.

I love your implementation of the press and release functionality, it works perfectly! I barely ever type the wrong letter, and when I do, your predictive input works great. One suggesting and one bug(maybe a feature). Suggestion, add a space after you click the suggested word, having to press spacebar after tapping the word seems to mess up the flow. Bug, it doesn’t seem to put focus on the text box when you start a text message, maybe this is intentional.

Thanks again for putting your time into such an awesome program. While I was writing this I was thinking that if you ever released this as a commercial app I would definitely buy it. So I donated :D

Hi,

Firstly, I want to say I really like your app! I believe that you have singlehandedly made the default contacts program in WM5 obsolete!

The scrolling seems somewhat jerky but I attribute that to my lack of dexterity. The interface is everything I wanted in a contacts app and the way the screen spins to enter the sms UI totally blew me away!

The starting up is much faster now; on my super slow HTC prophet, it showed tremendous improvement over your previous contactmanager. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were a genius ;) (Apparently, I don't know better, you ARE a genius)

I do have some noob questions regarding the sms interface though:

-The sms interface loads up a list of sms I have in my inbox instead of simply those relating to that particular user I intended to sms. Is this the expected behaviour?

-When sending the sms, I realised that the sms is not sent unless I opened my default messaging program (or had it running in the background). It doesn't seem to get sent otherwise. I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or missing out anything in the settings.ini

But despite all these, I really like your app a lot.
Unintended side effect: All my friends are jealous of my HTC prophet now.

The last version had email showing as one of the options in the detail screen. New version doesn't seem to have this and I'm not sure where in the .ini file to address this.

I had some difficulty searching for the ini file but I finally found it. Its hidden in the archive called theme.cmt

You can use your unzip utility to open it and change the themes and ini file in there.

I know most of you know this already but it took me quite a while and just thought I could save the time of my fellow noobs.:o

Hi thank you for this little wonder, I for sure will use it instead of the "build in contact manager".
I have made a danish translation (it's in your own forum), and in this I included the danish letters æ ø and å, so they show up nicely in the index on the left side of the screen - so for mee it is OK now.

Maybe it is me that dont know how to use this program properly, but if I want to add a new contact, I have to choose an excisting contact, then tap on the blue part next to the picture, then a list with these items appear: new, show, edit, picture, add to fav, ect. Here I choose new and can make a new contact.
For me it would be more logical if it was possible to add a new contact from the main menu, maybe by clicking on the letter, or pressing for 5 sec on the screen at the same point would start the "add new contact".

Thanks so much Belfazar!

One thing though, 'contact_secondline_formatting' was allready commented out. However, 'contact_font_secondline=12' was not, so i'll try the settings now.

EDIT: I sitll get the numbers shwoing underneat my contacts. The scrolling is definately not as smooth as it used to be.

While ContactManager 0.11 loads fully in 25 s, this PocketCM 0.5 loads in 51 s. Clearly, this is not how it should be. FYI, this is my configuration:

I have about 550 contacts, of which about 80 with a pic. I measured it by including my last entry as a favourite, and wait until that last one got displayed in my favourite list after startup. I didn't wait until all pics are displayed per se, but when the application is done with 'Z', all the pics show up all at once.

I would love it if you there was a way to change the contact details picture. The current default is nice but I think an upgrade is in order. I found these, let me know what you think. I personally think the blue one would fit in perfectly.

Excellent work tene!
I've tried the beta 0.5 but I came back to CM 0.11
Bugs found:
a) 16 of my contacts were not displaied, showing only # and not the real name. They were sorted at the beginning of the list.
b) tried to insert an italian wordlist but found only a big one (about 600kb) - the apps just exit...

Other issue already reported...

General remarks (not just for you): pocketcm is in beta, native are faster (well should be) allow more stuff, etc... but there are a lot harder to develop... that's why it's beta, and that's why I made a public beta. The consequence of this: to fix bug, I need your help.

How to fix bugs? (in the context of a freeware)
- ideally get other users reporting the behavior they get, so I can understand if it's related to a specific device, or everybody.
- then I have to reproduce the bug in some way. That's the most time consuming part, and that's were you can help
- once the bug is reproduced, it can to basically two track: the bug is obvious and easy to fix or the bug is a design problem (for instance update contact info when they're modified outside the app: that can't be fixed in .NET correctly for instance, fixing this require big change!).
- after fixing, comes testing, testing and testing, and the big thing to avoid is regression... that's also why I try to publish often: I don't expect everybody to run last version, but it gives a better feedback.

Regarding reproducing the bug: help me! I'll take this post as an example:

- 16 of contacts are not displayed: why? what do they have different? what's special about them? what phone number do they have?
- You found a dictionnary that make the app crash... that's bad, to reproduce it, if you send me the dico, I can basically copy a file and see for myself... without the file, what do you expect me to do? google it, find something close, not the same, see if it works? and what if it does? I'm not sure it's the same.

This also apply to lot of other bugs... so please help me make it works!

ps: ContactManager is dead :p

I don't understand the obsessive need to have a cab version. It's a million times easier to install using a zip file than anything else.

Ok, I attached my theme to this post so take a look. You just need to rename it to theme.cmt (this board wouldn't accept .cmt as an attachment.) A few bugs that I can think of.

1. "separator_image" does not actually display an image.

2. "scroll_friction" has odd sensitivity issues. If set to 1.0 it scrolls endlessly, but set to 1.01 stops it much sooner than I would have thought it would.

3. No way of defining the A_Z index color without setting gradients. Might be smart to just set "index_background_color" or something instead of having 2 settings required.

4. "contact_detail_formatting" doesn't doesn't seem to work too well. Basically I want to have it so it displays home addresses for people who have home addresses and business addresses for those who have business addresses. I have contacts that have both, this is important to note. So my string looks like this:
%homeaddressstreet\n %homeaddresscity %homeaddressstate %homeaddresspostalcode %businessaddressstreet\n %businessaddresscity %businessaddressstate %businessaddresspostalcode

I would think this string would display the home address information if it exists and suppress the business address information if there isn't any and vice versa. Instead if set like this, it displays the home address information and then %businessaddressstreet, %businessaddresscity, etc. It doesn't actually display the value, only the variable. It seems as though the %businessaddress variables aren't actually pulling values from the contact.

5. The placing of the buttons in the contact detail view is awkward. The placement of the buttons at the bottom of the screen doesn't make much sense. Plus, the email button has disappeared. A solution might be to open the variable that defines to location of the buttons so that we can set them up in Settings.ini

6. I'm not crazy about the SMS threading setup. I like the idea but there are too many things that I don't like about it. So my thought is this: make it possible via Settings.ini to disable the threading feature all together and instead just open up the default SMS application. Additionally it might not be a bad idea to open up the coloring options for the SMS threader. Also, if you're working on the keyboard, take a suggestion from the iPhone keyboard and if you can, make the button larger when pressed so that it's easier to see what key has been pushed. Consider removing the default word suggester or at least disabling it. It gets in the way of using the keyboard. Also, in the same vein as the iPhone keyboard, if it's possible you may want to try to make it so that it's possible to slide a finger across the keyboard (with the buttons raising and becoming larger) and only accept the actual key input when the user raises his/her finger. Same idea as you're going for with the full contact list I think. One last thing, and this is kind of stupid, but you may want to change the label on the keyboard. Instead of showing \B, \M, and \N change it to "Backspace", "Mode", and "Enter" or "Return".

I think that's everything. If you want, I can send this to your or post it on your forums but I figure you'll see it here and I don't really want to register for another forum. I'll let you know if I find any more bugs.

Interesting point, I never pay attention to the sizes of my pics. I quick look into them shows me that they range from 2 to 26 kB, dimensionwise from 51x74 to 428x246 pixels, with a median of 7 kB / 157x187. Basically, if I want a picture I do a screen grab of a face out of a displayed pic on my PC screen. It never occurs to me to downsize the pic, since I only look at the file size. 5-15 kB always seemed ok to me.

@tene
Could this be the reason? Are your pics significantly smaller? What counts in this matter, file size or pixel dimensions?

I'll look at it, if I'm correct, it's not even implemented ;)

2. "scroll_friction" has odd sensitivity issues. If set to 1.0 it scrolls endlessly, but set to 1.01 stops it much sooner than I would have thought it would.

Well that's logic... the scroll_friction is the number by which I divide the current offset. So for instance, you move your finger the average move is 30 pixels. the next move will be 30 divided by scroll_friction, so if it's 1 it's always 30. if it's 1.01 it will go down pretty fast... so try 1.0001 for instance ;)

What was missing if I'm correct, is a setting to change the delay between each move, it's added in 0.6 available... now. Hope you can make it "smoother" (well actually slower).

3. No way of defining the A_Z index color without setting gradients. Might be smart to just set "index_background_color" or something instead of having 2 settings required.

That's probably not gonna happen, what may happen (in the very long term) is a more flexible filling model, so the thing would become: index_background=gradient(rgb(255,0,255), white, black) or index_background=image("test.png").

This kind of things... on the other side, it would make the stuff more complex and probably slower.

4. "contact_detail_formatting" doesn't doesn't seem to work too well. Basically I want to have it so it displays home addresses for people who have home addresses and business addresses for those who have business

...

businessaddress variables aren't actually pulling values from the contact.

Well... without getting further, look here: http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,174

You'll see that the tag you for business address is not right.

Shouldn't be that... one of the change I made to make things faster was to load picture after contact... so you should get your list pretty fast.

Did you change the information displayed on the contact? (list and detail)?

How it works: load your settings, get a list of required contact properties, load those property directly (that's were you're going faster than .NET), then load images.

That makes sense. I wasn't sure how you were using that specific number. I wasn't sure if it was rounding to the hundredth or if it was something else.

That's probably not gonna happen, what may happen (in the very long term) is a more flexible filling model, so the thing would become: index_background=gradient(rgb(255,0,255), white, black) or index_background=image("test.png").

It was just a suggestion based on what you said about how the more settings it has to load the longer it takes. I'm not even sure if that applies to this native version or if it was specifically the older .NET based version.

Well... without getting further, look here: http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,174

You'll see that the tag you for business address is not right.

You should correct that in the comments in the Settings.ini. It still has the old format in there.

Sorry, has it been addressed in this thread? Perhaps I wasn't looking for the proper wording of the issue.

I've gone through your forum pretty carefully (that's how I found out about scroll_friction) but like I said, I'm not wild about having to register to post. Maybe you could make it optional to register and simply need a name?

Anyway, thanks for taking a look at my list. I'm glad some of the issues were simply my stupidity and not a problem with the software. I'm updating now, cheers!

I forgot to ask you one last thing. Is there a way to change the color that is displayed when a contact is selected in the general contact list? Right now it's gray and I'd like to be able to make it another color, but I didn't see a variable that allowed it to be changed.

Let me guess, you use IE? Try hitting the refresh button of your browser.

I must say v0.6 seems a lot better (out of the box) than v0.5. The scrolling is much improved. Personally, I'm no fan of the window being sucked away Mac-style, but most likely that can be turned off in the settings file.

The real disappointment (for me, that is) is that the load time didn't change (even gained 1 or 2 s). But the 'Hide' button hides again! So it will only bother me the first time after booting my device.

I like this application more and more as it matures. Thank you!

One suggestion: It seems to be quite difficult to add a new contact. You have to select an existing contact, click on their picture and then select 'New' to create one. Would it not be easier to have a 'Add New Contact' as the first item in the list which, when you select it, takes you to the add page?

Another option might be to change the 'Hide' option (since it does the same as the OK button) to a menu with 'New' as one of the items.

Just my 0.02c. I can see this app replacing the default contacts app soon ...

-You think there some possibility to make a way to export the config? is very anoing have to configure all your favorites contacts, picture every time that i have to format my device. Maybe you can use the DvTonder ideia to release the right button (using Ok button to hide) and make a new menu with new contacts, export settings and one about ;)

What are you talking about? This CM is amazingly customizable.

deanerh
3rd August 2007, 12:35 AM
I'll look at it, if I'm correct, it's not even implemented ;)

Well that's logic... the scroll_friction is the number by which I divide the current offset. So for instance, you move your finger the average move is 30 pixels. the next move will be 30 divided by scroll_friction, so if it's 1 it's always 30. if it's 1.01 it will go down pretty fast... so try 1.0001 for instance ;)

What was missing if I'm correct, is a setting to change the delay between each move, it's added in 0.6 available... now. Hope you can make it "smoother" (well actually slower).

Well... without getting further, look here: http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,174

You'll see that the tag you for business address is not right.

Read the post, it does already exist.....

I hate to embarrass myself like this, but in your response to his question about losing the ability to email from the details screen, you said to "read the post, it does exist". I've searched for something about this on this forum as well as the PocketCM forum and I am just missing it. Sorry.

Tene has mentioned it at the beginning of the thread, the middle of the thread, and in the FAQ on his website, but the theme.cmt file is simply a ZIP file containing all the images and the Settings.ini file. Just extract it, make your changes, re-zip it and change the name, then put it on your device in the right directory. Easy as that.

Chill bro, I'm sitting at work and wanted to configure it. Well, I figured out how to extract the files on my phone using pocketRAR, then I just placed all the necessary files into the pocketCM folder. Not as a zip file, but seperate files and I was able to change my settings.ini and did not need to zip the contents back up (like you mentioned)

Seems like the independent files override the theme file.

The download link on the website was pointing to an inexistent 0.5 cab version, so here is a fixed link: http://www.pocketcm.com/downloadfile.php?f=PocketCM-0.6.cab

BUG: I just installed it on my BA/wm5 and when I select favorites it displays a cool animation then a screen with instructions on how to add the favorites. When I click back, another animation but the screen still displaying the instructions. I need to tap the screen to "refresh" it.

Hi Tene,

I found a little bug in the favorites section. When you try to go back to the main screen via "All Contacts", the screen refreshes but stays at the favorite screen display. But when you touch the screen, it is in fact the main contacts screen already.

PS: If you slide your finger across the favorites screen, the problem will not arise. Guess it has something to do with the button "All Contacts"

EDIT: Found another small bug at the main contact screen when i tried to bring up the keyboard for searching, the letters # to Z on the left would squeeze up.

Hope you understood.

Thanks. :)

This may be a silly question, but does PocketCM work on a non-phone PPC (Axim x51v, wm5 A17, VGA)? It installs, but when I run it I get the Security message ("Cannot run...either not signed or component is missing..."). The thing is my security setting are turned off. Why am I still getting this?

Nice Product..love the animation.

My only 2 problems is firstly when I click on View Contact I get nothing but a blank Summary page, thus I am unable to delete any of my contacts.

The second is using the All Contacts button from Favorites shows the animation... however it still leaves the favorite page images up untill i do something to refresh the list. I noticed if i attempt to move the fav list before hitting the all contact button it works fine.

I'm more concered about the first issue.

I'm using AT&T 8525.
Thank You

Great program - I appreciate your hard work on it!

I am having the same issue as the user you replied to - no matter which installation of 0.6 I commit to (zip or cab), View Contact always yields a blank summary page. The main problem is that I am unable to delete any contacts nor view the extra information unless I open the native contacts program (outlook-linked). Just as a note, I am on the PPC-6700.

Going to add some more specific info:

when going to View Contact, the Back and Hide soft buttons are still there, but neither of them have any function on this Blank summary page. So the only way to get back to pocketcm is to press OK. The actual summary page should have Menu as the right soft button, so something seems to be overriding that... I'm not sure why you can't reproduce this issue.

This app is amazing!! The lastest 0.6 version works great. The scrolling is fluid, assigning favorties is an easy 2 step process and the threaded SMS addition is nice :D. Currently i am still testing out this part of it a little more.

What i ask is for users to create more themes for this app. Maybe a theme with a white or gray background :D

Not that I know of. However you don't need to package the theme. Just put the file in the directory. Package it once it's okay.

Also changing the device orientation is enough to reload the theme. Or making the SIP appear in 0.6 (which is kind of a bug, but .... hey...).

Personnaly, I use MyMobile, so I can edit the file with my real keyboard, showing the PDA on the screen.

Hi Tene, I also like your app so much. The only issue I have found so far is that when I send an sms message from your app, it only really gets sent when I open the native messaging application. Eg. a message went out after over 2 hours, when I opened the messaging app on the touch cube.

ytsejam_
4th August 2007, 10:44 PM
hi there.. can this app also have the option to chose to compose and send sms using the default messaging app (that means disabling the threaded sms) when the sms number is pressed ?? because i use the intelipad to input text and summoning the intelipad eats up half of the screen, blocking the text entry field and most of the threaded messages.. i don't use the given keyboard layout because the keys are too tiny and the layout is kind of weird.. also, the text entry field is too small.. it is not ideal for long messages, there is no message and character counters, and no editing functions like copy, cut and paste..

i'm most accustomed to the default messaging app and , though the threaded sms feature is indeed cool, i think i don't need its' function replaced by a contacts application ( i only need a contacts application replacement, not entire pocket outlook).. so for those who like the threaded sms feature, they can turn it on, and for those who don't, like me, can turn it off..

also, in accordance to the first request, can you also include email addresses in the details? so i can send emails directly by pressing the contact's email address (the default messaging app should be used i guess)..

and if a contact does not have a phone number, but have email, can PocketCM show that in the list too?

because i have lots of email contacts, and i constantly access, edit and review them in the contacts application.

with pocketCM replacing my default contacts, i can no longer do so.. what i do now is open messaging application, chose an email account, compose new, select an email contact, and view his/her address.. now that is a bit tiring and troublesome just to view an email contact..

thanks.. looking forward to the next version.. and god bless

Great app so far, been a contact manager user since the first release and now testing the native releases as well. i think its very good but i have some Problems with the native version:

1. i tried sending an sms with it, but the sms are never received, i think this migth be due to the fact that i always use country codes with leading "+" in my phone numbers (i.e. +49 for Germany) and manage my contacts through outlook 2007 (ssems like the numbers are saved with a whitespace like "+49 xxxxxxxxxxx"), so maybe this could be solved simply by removing blanks from numbers, but i'll investigate if this is really the problem
2. i really miss the "infinite scrolling" feature, so it would be great if you'd enable the same configurations you had in the .NET version for the native app as well
3. i personally don't like the effect you used for the favourites tab (but that, of course, is extremely subjective), it would be great if the tabchange effects could be specified in a config file

Thanks again for bringing this to the community

Strange, are you sure the edit control has the focus? by default it doesn't get focus. The purpose is to let you use the DPAD to scroll the conversation, once the edit control has the focus, the DPAD allows you to navigate in the text.

Anyway, in 0.7 the keyboard will be removed, you'll have to use classic SIP keyboard.

I just upgraded to the .6 version last night. I noticed an issue today when I went to send an SMS. While it might work using the on screen keyboard, I would really rather use my phone's slide out keyboard but couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to do that. I finally resorted to going into messaging and having to create the message from there.

There is simply a standard edit control, on the bottom of the screen, tap on it, then you're in a classic edit control.

In 0.7 no more "on-screen keyboard".

Top software!

Much faster on my hermes and less memory impact, also seems more stable!

Few requests though mate;

Could you add a contact at the end of the list like in Cm v.11 so that adding new contacts requires less button pushing. (I do like the addition of the # at the start for numerical contacts).

Also, any chance that CM could display email addresses by default? I realise this could be configured by the ini file, but currently im bit short of time to go through the ins and outs of making a skin.

Maybe I am missing something, but how do you delete a contact within CM?

Not sure if its possible, but could you make an option to filter the contacts displayed by catagories (similar to the standard contact manager in WM5?)

Overall nice job though! Keep up the good work!

P.S.: If I can customize the buttons color, I could add to \N \M and \B keys the picture directly into the keyboard image (but the program will not have to show \N \M and \B).

Unfortunately no :S if other have the issue maybe we can find some way to reproduce the issue, but on my device it always worked. Have you try to create a new contact with a dummy number (1234567890) and see if it works? How are your number like? (I've heard some issue about number starting with some special chars).

Tene,

Just downloaded .07 and tried installing the cab file - both with 0.6 installed and with it uninstalled - and .07 doesn't work either way!

Can't find any icons and the shortcuts for contacts don't seem to work - all seems a bit buggered to me! :(

I get the message "The file PocketCM cannot be opened. Either it's not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the Problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.". I've got Black Satin, installed with what I thought to be all SDK certs. etc. installed - so I'm a little puzzled!!

Help!

Sorry for the nooby question... 8}

I have CM0.9 installed on my HTC Touch by the CAB file (replaced the default contacts app) without any particular problem.

To install the new PocketCM 0.7 do i need to unstall the CM0.9 before or just install the new one over the older (by the CAB file)?

Is the softbuttons will be fixed auto?

Thanks, I made a specific thread for the keyboard, maybe we can discuss there?

Thank you.

However I noticed a minor bug in the Contact Manager:

If I colose the program and re-open it, I'll have 3 contacts as Favorites even if I never added them and even if I manually remove them from Favorites, they'll be again there when I re-open the program.

Another thing I noticed is that the installer doesn't update the registry value ":MSCONTACTS". I had to manually edit it.

The only thing that may be holding it up is the default area code is wrong, but I can't change it. What exe is used for the default contact program? I need to change it in there unless there is a way to do it withing pocketcm....

One thing I noticed - I had about 6 favourites - when I upgraded ALL my contacts became favourites!! It's a small pain - but it's all sorted now for myself - don't know if anyone else has had the problem....

Anyway, THANK YOU for your efforts tene - it's an excellent app - and some of the skins appearing in the skins forum of your site are spot on too! :D

Ditto, but in my case a truckload -- around 40 ;)

My loading time has risen to 90 s with this version. That's not encouraging, and I seem to be the only one with this problem...
However, the 'Hide' button hides again, so it's limited to first time startup now.

and sadly, as much as i appreciate the sms app, how long till i dont have to use that? as you probably know, having problems now where my sms's dont pop up anymore.

Found this bug on version 0.7b:

When I select a contact, and once I'm at that contact page and when I use the directional pad (right, left, up or down) the program will completely close

I would like to have a use for the directional pad once you are at a contact page, in this order for example:

-up and down to move from one number to the other (home, work, email, etc)

-left to go Back to the contacts list (same function as the Back softkey)

-right to go to View Contact... page (this is very practical for contacts with multiple phone #s)

I am using it on HTC Trinity WM6 bepe ROM

Excellent program by the way and its just getting better and better and better

I just made a semi transparent feedback button to replace the existing in the theme.cmt

Just to share with you guys.

PS: Unzip the file feedback2.zip, copy the file and just replace your existing ones. Remember to always back up before overwrite.

For those whom still do not know how to change your buttons in your theme folder, proceed to PocketCM Phorum (http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,363)

Downloaded last night for keyboard, just getting used to it, really is the best input method tried so far, thank you.
Also downloaded PocketCM, WOW blown away by it, eye candy and functional.
Couple of Questions:- when writing a sms and sending it doesn't actually send till you open up native sms/mms folder?
And could we have the option to turn off sms threading to clear up some screen real estate.
I found a PocketCM thread, sorry if cross posting.

Well, first of all your program is amazing... second of all and after all you are the boss...

But my opinion is:
1- View contact is important in situations where the contact has multiple numbers as mentioned previously (home1, home2, work1, work2, fax, etc)
2- Also sometimes there are Notes attached to some contacts and needs to be accessed easily....

Another suggestion to access the view contact instead on the Right directional pad can be like this:

- at the contact page, clicking on the contact picture will access "View Contact..."
- at the contact page, clicking on the area next to the picture will access the drop-down menu for the edit, add picture, add favorite...etc

I also suggest adding "Delete Contact" at the drop-down menu

Sorry for being so greedy

What is the recommended way to use a settings.ini file? Should we copy the one out of the cmt and edit it? It seems to be missing some of the options like ...
contact_sort_expression=%fileas
contact_secondline_formatting=%company
contact_detail_formatting=%homeaddressstreet\n%hom eaddresscity, %homeaddressstate %homeaddresspostalcode

With 7b I thought I'd copy the settings file to see what new options there were, but now I have a different theme and no pictures.

???

Tene, when you have a few minutes to spare ;)... can you go through the settings file and orgaize the options by screen? This would make it easier to figure out which settings are for which screen.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Just to be sure, sorry if I'm talking about something you already know:

in the contact detail page, all number (except fax) are present, press your finger on a number, move it up, release the finger, the list "slide" (as does contact in contact list, favorite, or suggestion in pocketcm keyboard). So you have all your numbers.

For notes, I'd like to add a note button, tap on it, the screen flip (as for SMS) and show the note, tap it again, you're back to contact...

Maybe it won't be the perfect solution for you, but that's something I'd like to try, I'm trying to find better idea of doing things, not simply using what people have and are already complaining about. That doesn't mean I can't fallback to default, as I did with the view button... but I don't like it. I think it's more interresting to discuss and enrich a real solution, a least for a while, than rushing on making it just a little bit better... and missing an inovative solution.

What is the recommended way to use a settings.ini file? Should we copy the one out of the cmt and edit it?

create a new blank one with only the setting you need. That's definitely the best choice.

The idea is: put your setting in your file, let the theme do the rest.

The priority of settings is as follow:
- theme
- lang.ini
- settings.ini

This way, if you make a specific index with letter than you want (for instance, there's nobody with Z letter, you remove it from the index), you can be sure it will be used, even if the theme plays with letter, or the lang.ini comes with another alphabet.

It also allows quick an easy modification/patching of theme. You find a beautiful theme, but don't like the height of contact, just add one line in one file, you're okay, next versino of the theme is there, just replace your theme.cmt, and it's okay, no need to wonder about what's changed, unzip, copy settings or stuff like that.

Great great great! Thank you for this program!

Some suggestions (or minor quirks):
- smoother use of directional pad in the contacts list (now each press is 1 page down ... maybe a smoother scroll, like when we use the thumb, increasing speed if we keep pressing)
- a way to change the default number showed on the contact list (for example: having a priority list 1-mobile 2-work, etc)
- i saw that in iphone contact list they use the right movement over a selected contact to quickly dial ... cant this be used, instead of entering the contact detail dialog? (here the default number point is important)
- add a small graphic on the contact dialog, to help novices know that a popup menu opens when you click that area (maybe a small down-arrow with a label "options")
- maybe instead of mobile and sms option, maybe just the numbers, and then a popup asking what to do with each number. (I have contacts with many mobile numbers where i can send sms to them, and i store them in work, etc). also here a fast call feature using the right movement over the number would be great, or appearing a small call icon popup (right - call, left - send sms) like in your new pocket keyboard (applying on release)
- in the contact detail, using a right-to-left movement to go back to contacts.
- i also agree with adding extra functions to the directional pad, for example in the contact list, using the right and left directional pad to choose the current number to quick call (continuing with my idea expressed in the beginning).

I know many are just wishes ... but ... since you already have done so many great things ... why not ;)

Keep the good work!!

Hi Tene, I also like your app so much. The only issue I have found so far is that when I send an sms message from your app, it only really gets sent when I open the native messaging application. Eg. a message went out after over 2 hours, when I opened the messaging app on the touch cube.

I seem to be experiencing the same thing. I use an o2 atom exec.

Other than that the application ROCKS! GOOD WORK! :D

I LOVE this ideia!
is terrible when you have a lot of number in the same contact to scroll the list.

because if you release the button when you scroll you will call to the wrong number.

The other ideia are good too!!

Playing with .7b and report no bugs.
This has become one of my favourite apps. Not only because I use it on a daily basis but because it is so dumb-simple and it does everything with a real touch of class. Really, this is the "sliced bread" of contact apps. Bravo.
