View Full Version : Cannot delete files in Extended ROM even after unlocking

Hi,

I wiped my Extended ROM clean and then accidentally copied some files into it (instead of the SD card) which I am now unable to delete. Whenever I do so I get 'file is read only - are you sure?'. Pressing YES gives an error: 'Cannot delete 'blah': Access is denied. Be certain file is not write-protected and is not in use'.

The ROM is supposedly unlocked via the Advanced Configuration tool in the schaps ROM, and I've checked the two associated registry settings too. Reseting, reflashing etc doesn't help.

Does the file system support read-only files, and if so how does one change this attribute?

More ominously, I wonder if it could be related to the fact that my camera is *completely* lifeless, even after reflashing? (This is the main reason I want the Ext ROM back, so I can return my unit to OE condition for a return).

Current stats: UK T-Mobile MDA Vario II, schaps 3.57a WM6, radio 1.41, SPL 2.10

thanks

Try total commander or gsfinder+ (both free) both are way better file managers than file manager. you can chnage file attributes with both :)

Sim,

Your problem is most likely because a registry tweak alone cannot actually unlock the extended ROM on WM6. Once you have upgraded to WM6 you must apply another 'fix' as well as the mount and unlock reg tweaks. See here for more that will help you (I suspect): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1380785&postcount=10.

This is a problem that is unique to WM6. WM5 requires just a reg tweak such as those carried out by tweaking apps (incl adv config tool. There is suprisingly little on this in on this whole forum and many others experience your frustration - me too. I think this should be on the WiKi (it may be but I missed it) and the coders making all these tweakers should include guidance with the app when you make that setting to mount (show) and then unlock (make writable).

Thanks guys - I used both your tips with success! (Sorry for the delay in responding - have had a hellish couple of weeks at work  )

I used olipro's extrom patcher as suggested in your link Tony. Then I used Total Commander (thanks for the tip sambartle) to set the r/w attibutes and then delete. The pesky files are now GONE :D

I basically need to get my phone back to original UK T-Mobile specs as closely as possible, so I can return it for repairs :( Next step is to recreate the original T-Mobile Ext Rom, then see if there's any way to get a T-Mobile ROM on there. Fingers crossed!

Thanks again guys
