Thank you. Seems OK so far... How come this is only a GSM upgrade?
*EDIT* I don't notice any difference in reception between 1.50, 1.48, and 1.40.30... I'll have to see about battery differences.

I believe it means that it is just radio? At least I got UMTS reception as well.
Testing it now, hope it's better than the 1.48 which caused me to lose several calls.

Here in the Netherlands this version is working perfect. Get nice HSDPA connection. Wifi is working with WPA security.
All calls come in, only not when HSDPA connection is active. Had this problem also with previous versions 1.47 and earlier.
Hope it's also working fine for you too.... :D

Anyone in Toronto try this yet? Have been having problems with radio's after 1.43 and missed calls with Rogers. Hopefully 1.50 resolves this issue.
I will not be able to test this myself until late today and will post results once done.

Same thing here in Italy with TIM phone company.
I think that the HDSPA problem is not a radio software fault, if i try to call my Tytn while i am on an HDSPA session, the tone from the phone company is not "free" or "busy", it is the one they use when a number is wrong or the line is absent or broken.
I will check the battery usage too.
Cheers

Silly question, If it is a GSM only upgrade, it wouldnt effect HDSPA?

I see you have KPN. Your HSDPA error is KPN related. They have Ericsosn infrastructure which has bugs in HSDPA handling. T-Mobile is using Nokia infra, which is why T-Mobile users do not have this problem. KPN is currently upgrading their infrastructure, but will not be ready before end of year.

I assume that you are using UMTS in Toronto? Has Victoria been upgraded to 3G yet? Probably not. Parts of Ottawa were upgraded to 3G but Rogers have turned it off recently. I am guessing that this is the difference (UMTS in Toronto and GSM elsewhere).
UMTS/HSDPA has been an issue for many radio versions with many carriers around the world from Day 1. I am suspecting this is why we are seeing so many radio versions these days...

I just moved to the Dallas area from Chicago, and Radio 1.48 has been HORRIBLE! Dropped calls several times a day and constantly jumping from 3G to no service then to G/E then no service then back to 3G.
If anyone has tried 1.50 in Dallas/Ft Worth area, could you post your results? Otherwise I think I am going to have to downgrade to radio 1.40

Good call (stop reading forums for a minute and just upgrade). So far 1.50 seems to give a marginally better signal (1 more bar) and much better performance while in a call. At least much better than radio 1.48 was doing.
I will report back after some more testing from Westlake, Texas.

Against 1.48 looks 1.50 better. I had on 1.48 "loosing call" issues and many other problems (not proceeded handovers, bad 3G etc.). Version 1.50 is stable, signal strenght is better and also 3G is stable in motion. My experiences here in Czech Rep. in Europe (O2 operator) are for now good.

I am in So. California and I haven't had any problems this radio. My Hermes actually started showing an H (for the HSDPA) and it never did before. Now I get four bandwidths like the phone was designed to, the "G" for GPRS, the "E" for Edge, the "3G" for UMTS, and the "H" for HSDPA. Thanks, very good radio!

I've worked for a day now with 1.50. (Upgraded from 1.47)
It's probably the best I have ever tested.
-Signal strength WiFi is 30 % better than before!
-Battery savings I don't know because I also upgraded my OS.
-Sound is good
Used the 3G button to switch off my HSDPA. Now the caller get's a message when I'm being called from a friendly lady of my provider. This wasn't before when I had 3G on all day. When the connection was active I missed the calls......
So the problem is really the HSDPA infrastructure of my provider KPN and has nothing to do with my cellphone!
Keep on testing all.

Upgraded last night. not noticing any improvement over 1.48, but there's a 3G mast across the street so it's kind of hard. SBSH pocket weather is however having a hard time connecting although that may be a provider issue. I've got a tweaked version of Satin and am on 3-Sweden in central Stockholm. Will keep testing, but battery seems worse losing more than 10%/hr, but that might also be related to pocket weather's connection attempts.

I would say that it the 1.50 is the same as the 1.48. I dont see any differenece with them two. However, the battery life is way better. I turn on MSN LIVE and internet on for 8 hrs at work and battery life is only around 40.

I'm no fan of "better reception, 2 bars extra" remarks, but i have to say that batterylife seems very good with this one. Upgraded this morning around 8 am, did quiet some calls this morning and still at 100%.
I'll keep this one for sure.

Battery life on 1.48 was dreadful on my TyTn. I live in a marginal signal area for cell phones (Central England), so certain weather conditions would conspire to kill the battery overnight.
Flashed to 1.50 yesterday and thus far, dropped 20% last night.
So, it looks like a real improvement.

Coming from 1.47 radio I am very happy with the 1.50 at the moment.
I had several dropped calls with 1.47 so I decided to give this one a chance.
I am with O2 germany. Reception is fine, battery drain is as good as it was with 1.47 and I noticed no dropped calls with several test calls, even with data connection on. Thumbs up! But I'm still monitoring this since I flashed only 3 hours ago and time will show... to be continued.

I have been on this radio for 12 hrs or so now (am on Celcom Malaysia/UMTS 2100).. noticed that the shifting of network/band connection is quite good during simultaneuos usage of voice/data..
during data connection (HSDPA) is active on the device, and call (voice connection) came in, after 30-45 seconds during the said voice connection, the data connection will change to G (GSM), without any drop in voice connection (vice-versa with data) and will remain the same until voice connection has been terminated, and about 30 seconds after voice is terminated, the data connection will resume to 3G and soon after, if the device is still active using data connection (e.g. downloading etc.), will be back to HSDPA.
can't say much on battery life though since it is still early to say when u are only on the radio for 12 hrs or so..

What is your protocol version? Mine reads 1.50.00.00 32.83.7020.20W which according to the Wiki is:
Protocol: If it ends in W means it's WEDGE (WCDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE), if it ends in H means HEDGE (HSDPA/WCDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE).
If this is corect, 1.50 would not work properly in Downtown Toronto - or do I understand it wrong?

Well, after almost 24 hours, I feel that 1.50 has been pretty good. At work, I constantly have to go to floors where I get no signal. With 1.48, my phone would take a while to catch signal when I came back to normal area and sometime I would have to reset to get it to work. With 1.50, the phone catches the network pretty fast. At 5PM yesterday, I had the battery charged up to 100%. I probably spoke on the phone after that for about 30-40 minutes and then played games for about 30 minutes or so. Battery life after 13 hours is at 80%. I guess I am ok so far. Signal strength-wise, I feel it's about the same as 1.47.

This is the exact problem I (and many others in Toronto) have been experiencing with Radios 1.46, 1.47, 1.48 and now 1.50. Since my phone goes to v-mail after 4 rings, I get 70%+ missed calls.
Radios 1.43 and 1.48.00.10 (note the .10) both picks up the signal/call on the first ring - thus no missed calls.

I can also confirm that it seems to take longer for the phone to start ringing; by which time the caller may hang up!!
But I have noticed this in all windows mobile based phones; I think it is related to the registry setting and to the ring file type (wav, mp3, etc...) used.

Setting ring period using keypad
**61*123*11*30# send forward calls to voice mail after 30 seconds
**61*123# send forward calls to voice mail.
**002*123# send forward all calls to voice mail
##002# send cancel all forwarding

I have been using Radio 1.50 for a little less than 24 hours and for me it is WAAAAYYY more stable than Radio 1.48. I am running vp3G's At&t ROM and was experiencing all kinds of issues with Radio 1.48. Dropped calls, constant bandswitching, and horrible performance while multitasking during calls. So far Radio 1.50 has performed much better in all of those areas.
My favorite thing so far is that the phone actually hangs up imediately when you press the End call button (imagine that!).
I would recommend for anyone in the Westlake/Southlake, TX area.

Sometimes I found the battery indicator is not very good to measure real battery usage, it stays really long at 90% and 80%, but will drop to 50% or below in very short period of time.
Anyone notice that? Or is that only my problem?

Voice quality seems better so far. I'll check signal strength when I get since I'm on the train. Yes I flashed on the train cause I couldn't wait :)
I'll also check tomorrow on my way to work on the train since there are a couple of spots where I lose the connection. I live in Gilberts, IL and work in Chicago .
UPDATE: Besides voice quality being better, I have noticed better battery life. It's back to the 1.43 (the one that came with the AT&T update in April) kind of battery life. 1.48 was atrocious to my phone. At 8PM the phone was at 20% although I do use it heavily on the train, with the other radio I would go to bed with 50% left.

guys, when u mentioned radio 1.48, is it in general or referring specifically to 1.48.00.00, as there is another version of 1.48 that came with HTC Official ROM i.e. 1.48.00.10.
anybody actually comparing 1.48.00.10 (not the former 1.48.00.00) with 1.50.00.00?

Im now using 1.50 with Schaps 3.57a on T mobile UK. Early impressions are good. Holds onto the 3G signal longer in places I was GPRS only. No problems with battery life and poor signal performance seems as good as 1.27 my previous keeper.
Looking good so far. Will update after a few more days but initial impression is looks like a keeper at the moment.

I've read around the forum and wiki, and it is not clear to me the requirements of upgrading only the radio. My questions are:
1. I have a cing/Att 8525, running the latest WM5 release by att/htc from htc's att site; My phone has not been sim / cid unlocked. Can I upgrade my radio only without unlocking the phone? I upgraded to the official ATT WM6 release from this site, but I lost sync functionality for Microsoft Money for PPC; this is 90% of the reason I bought the phone in the first place, so I'm going to go back to the WM5 release. However, the 1.48 radio in the WM6 release gives me better reception. So, can I upgrade the radio only in the wm5 release w/o unlocking the phone (which is still under warranty)?
2. If the answer to 1 is yes, the second question is that if I clear storage and reformat the phone sometime in the future for warranty purposes, will the radio revert to the WM5 version?
Thanks in advance!

After hours, hours and more hours of reading, I stepped out on a limb, and:
1. Flashed HardSPLv7
2. Flashed radio rom 1.50 to the AKU 3.3 from Att/Htc.
All seems to be well, and my phone is not a paperweight. I have only one question that remains:
If I flash the ATT rom back to the phone, will the Radio rom and hardspl be overwritten by the originals, thereby restoring my warranty status?
I know no one who knows seems to want to answer any questions from me, but I would greatly appreciate a knowledgable response.
Thanks in advance.
Update: my independent thread finally received an answer that covered my remaining question, so I'm good. Thanks.

Been using radio ROM 1.50 over the weekend in both of my Cingular 8525's; one on Cingular network and one on T-Mobile
--first issue I notice is that while in the Phila. area, when I put both phones side-by-side, I've got only 2 bars with T-Mobile, but 4 bars with Cingular. Not clear if this is the radio or the carrier, but I suspect it's the carrier
--on my primary Cingular carrier phone the battery life seems to be pretty good, i.e. comparable to 1.47 which I had previously. 1.48 seemed to burn through the battery pretty quickly although the signal was very strong.

Flashed to 1.50.00, fully charged my 8525 off the wall charger. Pulled it off the charger, didn't take one call, not one SMS message and 10 hours later my battery was dead! I had 1.48.00 before and at least got a day out of it before it seriously needed charging. I'm flashing back to 1.40
EDIT: DOH! My problem was P.E.B.C.A.K. related. I had turned on MS Direct Push but never got it working with our servers at work, but that didn't stop it from trying (constantly) and that's what was taxing my battery. Once I disabled it, I went the whole day with my battery showing 100%. Talked on the phone last night via a bluetooth headset for 2 hours and still showed 80% battery when I was done! Very nice!

I found with previous radio upgrades that gave me bad battery life that it was really just the phone getting confused - generally whenever I did the flash without external power and without the battery being fully charged.
I found that I had to let the battery completely discharge and then fully charge it up again before I could credibly assess the impact of the upgrade on battery life. Perhaps those who had shockingly poor battery life results with this upgrade might want to re-assess after a complete discharge-charge cycle?

Battery life has been amazing so far with 1.50. I charged my battery to 100% on Friday (around 2PM). Never charged it over the weekend and probably talked on the phone for about three hours total (throughout the weekend) and played a few games as well. As of 9:30AM Monday morning, the battery was at 30%. Reception has been great so far as well. I haven't heard anyone complain about me not answering my calls so hopefully no dropped calls. 1.50 Works beautiful with Maxis Malaysia. 1.47 has an issue whereby poor reconnectivity from Edge to 3G and vice versa which hasnt happened after i upgrade to 1.50.
Battery life seems good. From a maxis user on a 3G connection. I would say it is almost equaivalent to 1.43 (i love this Radio) 1.47 is a few % more power consuming than the 1.43 and 1.50. in Layman terms, about 2 - 2.5 days 3G mode.
I havent tried 1.48 because i had a bad version which almost bricked my phone.

I installed Hard-SPL-V7, checked it in the bootloader and it says :
IPL: 1.04
SPL-2.10-Olipro
But when i start the upgrade wizard for the Radio 1.50 upgrade and

So the question can i safely select "SPL-2.02/2.10 New Bootloader" ?
And do I have to set the selection box for "Is it Hard-SPL" on or off ????

I have been using 1.50 since Pof posted it on the Forum and have found the reception, audio quality and stability very good in my area.
But it is important to note that many of these ROM's are specifically designed for certain networks. The point here is that each network has a choice of a number of hardware and software suppliers (Siemens, Ericksson, etc.) and the requirements for a good Radio ROM can vary from operator to operator.
In South Africa we have two major and one minor operator. What is not known is what hardware/software combinations they use.
Leaf Wireless, the distributors of HTC for South Africa have faced this problem with the WM6 upgrade, and in fact have delayed the release until the networks have approved the Radio ROM.
This will be a Radio specially adapted for our networks. (Optimised)
As to the battery life I have found that it depends on whether 3G, E/G is selected. 3G is a bigger drain on the battery than E/G and there are technical reasons for this. Handovers on 3G account for a big battery drain if the towers are fairly sparsely situated, as in my geographical situation. I have got up double the life out of a charge by deselecting 3G and operating on GSM only.
So a comparison must take all this into account.
I will switch to our optimised radio once it is released, but until then 1.50.fits my requirements.

I am in northwest NJ on AT&T Wireless. Upgraded from Radio version 1.40. I stayed with that version primarily because I found it the most stable and best for battery life. I had originally upgraded from 1.34, the then standard shipping Cingular version for the 8525. I am now on 1.50 (the upgrade went flawlessly) and I will report on the performance of this version in a couple of days. I use my 8525 in a limited number of geographic areas so I should get a good "feel" for the two versions.

I read through the whole thread and cant find anything but since I upgradd to 1.50 I lost vibrate on my AT&T brandes 8252, I'm running VP3G's AT&T ROM. Any suggestions?????
I also have an AT&T (Cingular) branded 8525 with the VP3G 3.0 ROM, upgraded the radio to 1.50 (from 1.40) and it did not affect vibrate. I have full vibrate functionality.

I'm Using this in the USA in the outskirts of Atlanta, GA. The 1.40 was ok. The 1.41 was a joke it worked long enough to piss you off. The 1.48 was the crappiest radio i ever installed. You waved you hand over the antenna and lost service. The 1.50 has been the best thing since sliced white bread. My phone now shows H for hspda when surfing the net in a 3G area. It didnt do that before. And on gsm ive gained one extra bar of reception which really made my internet peppy at work on Edge network. No more long locating...connecting.... times.

Hi Pof
I have been trying to install the radio upgrade but am battling to. I cannot seem to find what bootloader I have so at installation I am not sure what to select. I have just recently moved to Hermes from HP Ipaq which I have had for years. I have installed the WM6 upgrade from the HTC website.
Could you possibly assist me?

Radio works as follows on my tytn in Sweden.
Network: TELE2/COMVIQ
Signal: Good, better than all prev radios.

Roaming betwen UMTS and GSM: Still a problem; don´t know if that is due to TELE2 or what.

It is just a tweak. I noticed in Black X beta 1 that is what JJ had put in there....
Here is how you can change it too what you want...
HKLM/Software/OEM/PhoneSetting/LongNamePrefix
By default it says UMTS, Look and it will say 3.5g hsdpa..
You can put what you want...XDA,3G,USA,ASU,TNT, ect......

i just installed this radio yesterday on my 8525. I feel that it is a little loud too. The other weird thing I find is that my physical Call/End Call buttons seems to stop working after sometime. I don't remember that happening before.
Otherwise its not bad, recognizes my network pretty quickly. other end can hear me well, etc.

Updating experience - battery life hasn't changed from radio to radio. However, 2 or 3 times now, when placing a call - it never rings on my end - get only static - but it does on the recipient's side. No other installs/mods have been made to the 8525.
I know I haven't had any good drugs lately, so not sure what to make of it. Anyone else?

I was impressed with 1.43 and 1.48 but this blows me away. Just when I thought the battery life could not be improved, it's better (and this is on a phone that's nearly a year old).
I got almost four days out of it, with a reasonable amount of Wifi, listening to music and non-3G calls.
The best test is on a high-speed cross country train. On 1.43 and 1.48 at the end of the journey, it would often show one bar and a 'G' icon, but in reality it had lost signal totally and a reboot had to get it going again.
This upgrade not only appears to have fixed that, but significantly improved call drops on trains.
Fantastic. No way am I ever going back to Nokia!

Yep, ive flashed my spv m3100 although im using t mobile uk.
I can confirm that radio performance has improved, but there seems to be some teething problems with my phone (which im unable to diagnose yet). Ive flashed many roms/ radios and lately the radio performance of my phone has gone down drastically. I no longer get signals in places where i use to get a full 3g signal before. Strange i know, but im wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that i use my phone a lot (5 hrs daily on average) for data/voice calls? .

I upgraded from 1.48 to 1.50 about 2 hours ago so can't comment on battery or call clarity/dropping yet. Reception is about the same, but I have noticed that 3G acquire is way faster with the 1.50 over the 1.48. Used to take 30sec to 1min to find network then 10-15sec for each of the steps up to 3G, so 10-15 at G then 10-15 at E and then finally 3G. Now in under 2 seconds it has the 3G after finding the network. The switch down from 3G to E also seems smoother, but haven't had time to really test yet.
This may be subjective also but it seems that the connecting/locating in IE is faster also with a quicker switch to H when getting data.
1.50 seems to also hold on to a connection longer, in areas around the office I used to get dropped from the network seem to stay at 1 bar longer, don't know if it's really connected yet or just thinks it is.
I'm in AT&T in the Seattle Eastside area.

So I've been on this radio for 4 days and I'm pretty happy with. My reception is still very good with no dropped calls. On my previous radio 3 out of 4 calls always started out with an echo ( I would hear my own voice). So far this has only happened once in the last 4 days and it really didn't even last very long.
Battery life seems about the same. I haven't noticed anything significant either way. Try it, I think you'll like it.

Up to now, my radio of choice has been 1.38 - I travel worldwide and all others are good in some parts of the globe but bad in others.
So far I've had 1.50 on my phone in Cuautla, Mexice for over a week and it's the best one for this area - phone calls are good, none dropped, battery good and fine for downloading email. Other radios here were not so good for phone reception etc.
I'll keep this one for a while, soon returnong to UK then on to France, Germany and China - if the radio stays good I'll report back, otherwise I'll revert to 1.38 again.
My configuration is Vodaphone VPA1605 (UK version), using on UK O2 business contract.
Also, with all radios I generally find that the O2 contract has better reception in any country than my original vodaphone personal contract.

On the 1.48 with IM+ active all the time and 2 push mail Outlook and Hotmail Windows Live running the battery would only last 6-7 hours of usage.
Today on this radio running same apps as above, I am at 7 hour mark and I got about around 35% of battery life left so look like a good battery improvement over the 1.48 but I am going to let it contiune until I get a low battery warning. I am hoping it will last at least 9 hours.

I upgraded my TyTN yesterday just after unlocking and superCID-ing AND upgrading to WM6:p ; apparently it has better reception (one bar more in the basement) and more important the battery is still at 100 % this morning!

UPdate to my previous note of radio 1.50; here in the Baltimore, Maryland area, I continue to have more bars and overall better reception; battery life is slightly better.
One issue that I've noticed is that I am gettting calls that go directly to voice mail. I've called my phone from the office and watch it quickly flash a notice of a call without ring or vibe (it's set to ring AND vibe) then go right to voice mail. This has also happened when travelling through Delaware and receiving a call from a Delaware number. It does NOT happen if the number is in my contact list. Software issue??
Otherwise better reception, longer battery life, no dropped calls. Will continue using it

After trying several radios here is my discovery.
1.50 is far superior and less buggy then any previous version. I recommend using it. I have 0 dropped calls so far.
The only bug in all radios i have found so far, is if when you switch standby mode on your PDA and you where so happening to receive a call or an sms at that time, it will NOT come through! Your phone will get bugged and will not be able to receive any calls / sms until you reboot or get an sms again!

I have no GSM reception with this radio in my place, best result with 1.43
The sfr signal is pretty weak where I live and the luxembourg network (pretty close) is much stronger.
so no gsm with the french network and do not detect the luxembourg network (in my place)
1.43 detect the sfr network and do not switch to the luxembourg one too easily (better for my bild)

I've been using 1.50.00.00 for about a week and a half now and I've noticed that when tethered, the battery gets extremely hot. It got so hot last night that the phone stopped charging (constant orange) and changed to a quick blinking orange.. it blinked very fast. Seemed like a warning indicator? Has anyone else had an overheating issue with 1.50? I downgraded to 1.47.00.10 and have had no overheating issues so far. Plus the battery life seems longer, but the reception is not as good.
I also researched this and found that some believe it can be the battery, the phone, the micro sd card, or the radio.
Any input would be appreciated.

Ive tried every radio so far and keep going back to 1.47. 1.50 in the central part of the city works great but when you get to the outter ring of the city i go from 5 bars to 2-3 wheras with 1.47 I almost always have 5 bars. Also 1.50 is not to good at all inside office buildings.
Just as a reminder when it comes to optimal battery life, the lower your siginal the harder the phone tries to contact the nearest tower, so if you see you are running 1-2 bars, expect very short battery life. I went to Cincinnati a few weeks back with radio 1.47 and I put my phone in my travel bag inside the hotel closet by the time we got back from lunch / dinner outting the phone was screaming at me to plug it in. When I grabbed it to look at the signal status I noticed 1 bar... the dam thing ran itself into the ground...

Downgraded your radio version to 1.40 or 1.41. I suffer this experience as well
Also 1.50 gave my Vario II very bad signal. For me, radio 1.41 has a better signal (Vodafone New Zealand network)

I got the 1.47 with the official German WM6 upgrade. Reception was good, but the battery was sucked empty in almost a day. Then I went to 1.50 and battery lifetime increased a little, but I had a few broken calls. Now I'm on 1.48...
What is it, that HTC always alternates between either good battery/poor reception or poor battery/good reception? Isn't there a compromise? Isn't it possible to save battery in standby and go to full power on calls? Or even write a little tool, that gives the user a slider to select between power saving and reception? *argh*

Hmm,
I have just gone back to 1.47.00.10. 1.50.00.00 was fine to start with then I noticed that when calls came in I would answer them but not be able to take the call. The phone bit is as important as the PDA, if not more, so its back to 1.47.
When I was trawling here a while back I'm sure I saw a thread somewhere that said that only releases ending in .10 were suitable for the Hermes. Anyone recall that, is that the case?

I've tried this out a few times and don't think it's true. When charging through USB how do you decide when it is 'full'? Do you take it off when the indicator reaches 100% or when it actually stops charging and the red led turns green? In my experience, given that the battery indicator only goes up in 10% increments, there can be some time between when it shows 100% and when the battery is really fully charged. The AC adapter seems to charge faster so this time period is reduced meaning that it is more likely that your phone really is at 100% if you are not waiting to see if charging has stopped.

I was using 1.50.00.00 but after frequent dropped calls and terrible reception reports from people I was speaking with I switched back to 1.47

Hmm,
I have just gone back to 1.47.00.10. 1.50.00.00 was fine to start with then I noticed that when calls came in I would answer them but not be able to take the call. The phone bit is as important as the PDA, if not more, so its back to 1.47.
When I was trawling here a while back I'm sure I saw a thread somewhere that said that only releases ending in .10 were suitable for the Hermes. Anyone recall that, is that the case?

Hi wacky.banana,
I went from WM5 straight to the unofficial T-Mobile UK WM6 ROM with radio 1.50, and after a week or so I started having exactly the same issues as you described above, I couldn’t answer incoming calls, the radio kept losing signal and the phone was freezing etc, Sometimes I could only correct the issue after a a few soft resets. So I switched back to 1.48 3 days ago, but still seem to have similar issues, as if 1.50 messed something up in the ROM permanently. How is your experience, is the phone part working fine for you, now you’ve switched back to 1.47 ?
I’m just flashing 1.47 at the moment and see how that goes. If I still have the same problems, I think I’ll just have to reinstall the whole ROM.

My first time flashing my Hermes (8525) ... I put 1.50 on as the radio and it's brilliant. It came with 1.43, and in the "Garden Level" (ie, dungeon) of my work building (which is where my office is), I had no signal at all with 1.43 -- couldn't send a text message or anything -- calls wouldn't ring through at all; I'd just go upstairs and the voicemail would chime.
Installed 1.50 .. I get 1-2 bars depending on where I am, and calls are clear. I do not use the EDGE/GPRS network yet, so no comments on that. I just live off wifi at the moment.

Used v1.47/50 before , now finally fall backto v1.40 .
I bought a new X01HT w/1.47 radio before , but it barely last for 1 day (8 hrs work with moderate use of GPRS) , it drops about 60% after 8 hrs . So I upgrade it to v1.50 afterward .
Yes , the situtation is better , however , it still drops about 50% after same usage . Still not acceptable .
Finally , changed back to v1.40 , it only drops about 30% for same usage . Wow , amazing !
But , when compare v1.40 and 1.50 , obviosuly the data connection stability of v1.50 is much better then v1.40 . The connection seldom time out suddenly when compare to v1.40 .
However , I need a device with longer working hour , so I still go for v1.40 . :p

1.47, 1.50 & 1.51 did not serve me well in terms of battery.
I will give 1.48 a try, and if not better, I will go back to 1.43 or 1.40...

I live in Brooklyn and tried 1.51, but the reception was really bad, so im downgrading to 1.48 to test.

So far so good in Folsom, CA
I usually only got 1 bar while sitting at my desk but now I get two and sound quality sounds perfect to me. 1.48 was a good radio for me. Will update in a couple of days on battery life.
Update: Also tested Edge and 3G both seem to connect really fast and have good speeds. This is improved from 1.48 radio.
BTW I am using ROM 3.61 VP3G.

Hi Imando! You're pretty much spot on there...
All radios are different - and all networks are different (hence why they all compete for your cash :D )
Every network has a slightly different set up for its services - number of cells, channels from cell, calling features, data speeds, capacity, reliability etc.
Every radio update has a slightly different way to "grab" and "handle" the signal it sees from the network.
Therefore, the art is to find a radio and network that work well together - rather than just trying to keep up with the latest radios.
Also, remember, if you're in a weak signal anyway then the difference you will see between radio versions will be marginal (it won't magic up a signal when there isn't one or suddenly amplify a weak signal) but it may help the device handle the signal made available from the network to you in a more efficient way.
As long as you know the basics (read the wiki on upgrading for begineers - and use HardSPL if you're gonna make ANY changes) you should be able to safely experiment with radios and find one that works well with you.
One note of warning however - problems are being investigated with the latest radios at the moment potentially killing phones - so if you're out of warranty or treasure your device then I'd recommend avoiding those for the moment until we know what's happening - but everything up to and including 1.49 has been in use for a long time with no major reported issues and therefore you shouldn't come to any permanent harm (as long as you read the wiki;) )
You mentioned radio 1.50 but I wasn't sure if you meant you had regrets (ie. problems) with it or that you were worried about trying it. If you are having problems with it, could you elaborate?

Hi Mikeapollo ...
Thank you very much for your explanation, and sorry for my late post coz I was in business trip !! :D
Actually, I used to flash the 1.50.00.00 Radio Rom (due to you recommendation of HARD SPL coz I flashed the 2.10 olipro first with super CID/SIM) and the new Radion flashed 100% well
the point is: I havent seen any improvement !!
the signal is the same .... and in some places in countryside where the signal is about 80 to 75% .... the signal strength stand still as well as the former radio Rom !!
so, I dont think that I've got any benefit out from this new radio rom 1.50.00.00 :)
anyhow, i have a very crucial question:
inspite of all the upgrading O.S and ROM and Radio ROM .... blablablabla
the hermes keeps not indicating the waiting calls; in other words if you call some one, and this some one has a call already, then ur hermes never ever give u any sign or indication !! why that??
the most trivial mobile phone has this feature, why our PDAs have not???
please comment :p

Hi Imando - No problem regarding the delays in replys - it's a general forum :D
Firstly, glad you followed the HardSPL advice! That's the best insurance against bricks you can get.
Secondly, if there is no improvement in 1.50 for you, then (for stability) it may be best to revert to your previous radio. Not all radios offer improvements on certain networks and can introduce more issues than they "solve".
Finally, your crucial question - Call waiting.
All Hermes are capable of this feature but it depends on your network itself as well as combinations of software setup/ROM etc.
Call waiting is supplied by your network and usually can be turned on or off. Some networks actually charge extra to turn this on (unbelievable in this day and age) so if you can't tell a call is waiting when someones trying you it could be :
a) Facility is turned off (see phone options->services->Call Waiting)
b) Facility not allowed by network
c) Software clash or ROM bug (OS rom - not radio)
If however, when you dial OUT you can not tell if someone has call waiting enabled then this usually means :
a) Person you are calling does not have call waiting
b) There is an issue on one of the networks/phones involved.
If you call someone and they're engaged but get no engaged tone/reponse/etc (and have tested this by, say, calling your own landline while it's off the hook) then it's likely to be a config problem with your software or ROM (maybe doesn't have an engaged/busy tone in it! lol!)
Either way - Call waiting issues are generally either network issues or software clashes/ROM bugs. Radio updates will not resolve this issue generally.
So, if Call Waiting IS enabled on your network and is enabled on your phone AND you still have issues, try using a different OS ROM and see if that helps.
Hope that helps!

1.50.00.00 was included in the offical WM6-Upgrade for my T-Mobile MDA Vario II which came from T-Mobile Austria in January.
Works quite good. Battery drain is better than before. But i cant remember which Radio-ROM i used before lol.

Would stick with it then. The fact the battery isn't draining as fast is a plus and probably is one of the reasons that your carrier has put in their rom.
Wouldn't worry about previous radio rom.
Cheers...:D

Hi all,
A noob question for you.
I just flashed a new ROM to my 8525 and have restored all of my old files. I just realized that I should have probably updated my radio ROM at the same time.
If I do this now, does it wipe away any of the restoration that I've just done?
Thanks,
Linda

I am not sure what my original Radio Rom was, but it was whatever was loaded when I bought my 8525 about 3 years (?) ago from Cingular. I'm guessing it was 1.40 or earlier.
I've been using Schap's 4.31 WM6 (full version) for at least a month now and it has been draining the heck out my battery. I can't last 6 hours with it. Maybe it's settings (?) - it's a pretty ROM but I will probably move to the Lite verson.
I just flashed the 1.50 radio stack and I already have better reception in our apartment. Previously I could only make a call (if I was really lucky) by standing next to a window by the street - with 1.50 I can actually get halfway through the apartment before it drops! I can sporadically see my 3G logo and I have 1 or 2 bars (vacillates).
I'm not sure if battery life is better but I'll charge my device fully and then test it out tomorrow - will repost results then.

I'm getting dismal battery life with this new Radio Rom (it was bad with the old Rom too though). So no improvement moving to the new Rom. The signal is MUCH stronger though, so that's reason enough to keep this one.
I may remove Schap's Rom and see if a stock 6.1 one will give me back my battery...at least then I'll know it's the Rom or a setting and not my battery.
