View Full Version : Another GREAT way to play YouTube, Google Video & Veoh Videos for both WM platforms!!

It was just a few days ago that I’ve reported (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2129&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1) on the latest developments of playing back YouTube (and similar) videos on both Windows Mobile platforms.

Developing for Windows Mobile is so blazingly fast that immediately after publishing my article, a brand new and even better solution has been released, which doesn’t require any manual intervention to search and play videos any more.

There is an excellent tutorial, along with the two CAB files you need, HERE (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1319431&postcount=1) (related thread HERE (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=148801)). Please follow this tutorial on setting up the new player. Note that, in order to play back videos on a touchscreen-less MS Smartphone (Windows Mobile Standard) platform, you’ll need THIS (http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/tcpmp.smartphone.0.72RC1.cab) TCPMP CAB file (instead of the one linked in the tutorial) – while the other CAB file, FlashVideoBundle.CAB, can be installed on Smartphones as well.

After installing, just go to, say, YouTube and click any video on, say, the main homepage. The video playback will (almost) immediately start, after switching to TCPMP.

Compared to the MobyTube-based solution explained in my previous tutorial (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2129&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1),

The pros:
when you click a link in the REAL YouTube (and the other video repositories), you will be taken straight to TCPMP playing back the clip. No MobyTube searching / copy-pasting is necessary!
Smartphone compliance!
The cons:
not compatible with alternative browsers like Opera Mobile or NetFront; with them, stick to the MobyTube solution explained in my previous tutorial (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2129&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1). Note that it’s compatible with all PIE plug-ins (tested with PIEPlus and MultiIE; the latter on both (Pocket PC’s and Smartphones) platforms)
no pre-WM5 compliance

All in all, GO GET IT! You’ll LOVE it!

not compatible with opera you say? is there a way at all to make it compatible or would this be too hard?
also would it be possible you could post FlashVideoBundle.CAB here to avoid registeration at that site?

Works on my Ameo , absolutely briliiantly - Really surpassed my expectaions of how youtube would ever be on a mobie !
OK ,so I am going Via Skweezer AND using a good HSDPA connection - but even so , the videos appear to load QUICKER than they do on my PC (mac actually) with a 6mb connection !
I suspect the performance would be not as good on a vanilla 3G connection - but that is hardly the hardware / softwares fault

Thank you very much ! only last week , a friend tried to impress me by showing me "youtube" on his n95 , which was really a pixelated , postage stamp sized picture , over a pre selected 10 or so videos - I can't wait to see his face when I show him this !

Quick warning: IEM plugin-based YouTube tools currently don't work!

I've just been reported (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1462059&postcount=39) YouTube has changed the HTML layout; hence, the well-known IEM plug-in (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=yet_another_great_way_to_play_youtube_go&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1) to play back YouTube automatically from IEM doesn't work for the time being. I'll announce at once when there's a newer, compatible version.

For the time being, you can still use the tutorial HERE (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2129&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1), as it doesn't depend on a plug-in and, therefore, still works.

As was reported (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=quick_warning_tcpmp_based_youtube_tools&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1) some days ago, YouTube has changed the layout of their pages, resulting in the best IEM plug-in (http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&title=yet_another_great_way_to_play_youtube_go&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1) not working.

Now the author of the plug-in has just released a new (1.2) version, which fixes this problem. See his original post (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showpost.php?p=1319431&postcount=1) for the download.

BTW, there is also an interesting post on playing back YouTube videos via YouTube Pocket (http://ytpocket.ath.cx/) HERE (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/1059145407-post11.html).

new plugin update not compatible with existing tcpmp version.
cannot download version of tcpmp in post as is ppc version which wont install.
Is there a smartphone update od tcpmp ?
mine says rc 1 7.2 which is same as ppc version in post.

just removed tcpmp and the plugin and downloaded the smarthphone version from the plugin authors original post and 1.2 plugin.
Definately not working on vox. ffmpeg and ffsplitter error message. tcpmp then opens with unknown file format.

Hi Menneisyys,
Thanks for your reply.
I don't know what gave you the impression that I was trying to use the ppc version though as I said "just removed tcpmp and the plugin and downloaded the smartphone version from the plugin authors original post and 1.2 plugin."

I had the smartphone version working until youtube changed their html as reported previously.

What I had said was the file in the attachment WAS the ppc version, not that I had tried to install this.
Following your post I have uninstalled both tcpmp & flashvideobundle from the vox then soft reset.
I installed tcpmp from your link, soft reset again then installed flashvideobundle 1.2 & soft reset. Just to make sure everything was removed cleanly & installed cleanly.
Connected up via wi-fi to the full youtube site.
Slected a video and got this again:
FLVFFMPEG plugin is not compatible with current player version. Please update!
FLVSPLITTER plugin is not compatible with current player version. Please update!
TCPMP then appears with url of slected video
Player:http://chi-v300.chi.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=IOIxoj86H38 Unknown file format!

Have included this info because you seem to think I have used the incorrect version.
No.I had already tried to use the smartphone 0.72RC1 version and the new flashvideo bundle.
I have tried these above steps in front of the pc while typing this post for my benefit to make sure I hadn't missed anything.
If you or anyone else have some more suggestions, especially someone who has got full youtube access working on a htc vox/S710/E650 again & the steps you took that would be great.

I am a newbie to this forum and the vox but not smartphones, windows mobile or spvs in general so can follow instructions, guides and registry tweaks having used both since the original SPV and windows mobile 2002 on pda's

I appreciate any help especially from experienced members such as yourself Menneisyys but check my original post for what I said as your reply makes it seem like I was trying to do something stupid (which if I had been trying to use the ppc version on a smartphone, indeed I would have been)

Thanks.

Youtube detects you are connecting up from a mobile browser.
Just scroll to the bottom of the page and select the classic link

you can try saving this as a favorite but youtube still detects how you connect next time anyway.

I have a HTC Mogul (Sprint 6800), and I followed the instructions and downloaded the latest flashbundle to comply to the youtube.com changes. I soft-reset the phone as the instructions say.

Using only IE on the WM6, I go to youtube.com (not the m.youtube.com) and clicked on any video I see. The unit will show the spinning wheel of death, and nothing after that.

Anybody experience the same issue?

**EDIT**

Ok, I just found out that only some of the links work, and when it finally buffers to my TCMP player, it stalls on the video about every 3-5 seconds. Any help will be appreciated!

WOw i'm such an idiot... After doing a hard reset, and playing around with the TCMP player, I had the video driver set incorrectly, which duplicated the issue. After switching back to the default driver, it worked like a charm.

Now my video is playing almost FLAWLESLY, but (there's always a but  ) the video is about a second or two ahead of the audio. Anyway ideas to sync it up?
