Treo 750 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade Imminent


Palm, Inc. is apparently set to release an operating system upgrade for the Treo 750 in the next few days.

An official email to attendees of Microsoft Australia’s TechEd conference says, "Palm and Microsoft will be announcing the availability of Windows Mobile 6.0 on the Palm Treo 750 Smartphone at Tech.Ed."

This conference kicks off on Monday, August 6.

When Palm and AT&T announced this spring that an operating system upgrade for the Treo 750 will be released, they also said that this will be available free of charge.

I'm attending Tech.Ed 2007 and they keynote isnt until Wednesday, so this artical is flawed already! They may well announce it during one of the sessions, they may even give some away with al the other prizes!!!

Just got back to the Hotel after the Tech.Ed opening. I spoke with a rep from Palm and he said that Windows MObile 6 for the Palm Treo 750 on the Three network will be released this week. Telstra and Vodafone will be by the end of August. He also said that the update will be through Palm's website. So i am assuming if you have a CID Unlocked device you could flash with any device.

I'll let you know of any further details

It's AT&T ... have they released a single upgrade yet? I think you're better off planning for never :)

So its clear that it is again an announcement and not a release. I'm getting sick and tired of palm announcements and postponing the release of something that should have released yet for months.
Palm is playing with their customers. OH and by the end of august they gonna give you the exact date when it will be released: end of September! so on so on .......
This will be my last device from palm.

Never Mind. I re-read it and it just says "Treo 750." It was speculated that there would be an AT&T announcement.

Do Treo 750 have CIDlock? Most of Treos are branded, so they "should" have, but... Lot of us here installed AT&T WM6 even on locked 750v. Also imei-check.co.uk removes simlock, but not CID (on other devices both).

Maybe we can flash using any official release waiting for row?

Sorry this Palm Rep doesnt know about a date for AT&T, just the Australian carriers. I will chase up about the unbranded version.

Hey guys, sorry to soudn liek a jerk, im pretty new to my treo :P I was just curious though, does palm actually release (ie have they with wm5 or anything) an unbranded update for download or does an official one just get stripped of brand related items and released unofficially (ie here)

Just wondering, i'm on a 750v cing thats completely unlocked, so would love an unbranded official release to not have all the extra crap carriers put on

The Palm rep says, Three is releasing their version of the ROM mid-august, all other carriers will follow over the next 4 weeks including the unlocked ROM by Palm. All downloads will be via the Palm website in your respecitve country.

I have had a chance to play with the Three and Telstra roms and they are both great improvements over the 5 rom.

Does the device need to be "CID Unlocked?" I don't fully understand what CID unlocked is. Is there a way to CID unlock a Treo to put different versions of the ROM on it?:confused:

I've read some conjecture on a variety of sites that if you can flash your device with another carriers ROM (I have an unlocked Vodafone 750v flashed with AT&T's WM6 ROM) then you should be able to use the unbranded ROM from Palm.

There does not seem to be any clarity (yet) on whether you can move directly from WM6 (AT&T) to another WM6 ROM, or whether you have to flash back to WM5 and then upgrade again. If it's the latter, and you can get an unbranded WM5 ROM, you should be able to upgrade to the unbranded WM6 ROM.

This is not confirmed, but seems to make sense (to me, anyway)

If it's the latter, and you can get an unbranded WM5 ROM, you should be able to upgrade to the unbranded WM6 ROM.

i got unbranded treo 750 with clean unbranded WM5 and these keep holding mefrom instaling ATT rom
becouse when u instal ATT WM6 it adds "20" to your IMEI number

my thougth
so to get your IMEI number back u need origenal ROM
when upgrading to Officeal WM6, want the IMEI number be checked ?

if u try to go from ATT WM6 to ROW WM6 (unbranded) it will probebly say your device is allredy upgraded

so trying to go back to origenal WM5 (unbranded) BUT it was never released to mortal people !

I didnt notice much, i didnt reset the device, but i am assuming it has a splash screen, there is hardly any brandin, not like what AT&T and T-Mobile do

Also another thing from Tech.Ed. Palm Australia gave away 3 Treos on the Three network with Windows Mobile 6 preloaded sealed and in a box. So it cant be too far away now, let's hope they release the update before the fresh devices hit the shelves!
