Are there any custom WM5 ROMs other than Wizard Love? ROMs that I can install without being CID unlocked?

All ROMs can be flashed with CID locked devices; but you must extract the nk.nbf from the RUU, decrypt it, remove the IPL/SPL chunks, crypt again and pack again in RUU :p

Will custom ROMs work with a device that is CID locked??

There has to be a problem, correct? That is why everyone is CID unlocking there device.

Yes, they will work if you consider custom ROMs as the OS chunk alone and flashed via RAPI communication (WST or Shelltool).

An original nk.nbf contains IPL(2)+SPL(2)+Splash+GSM+OS+HTC_Logo+ExtROM. When flashing the OS chunk the updater checks for the CID status; if CID not unlocked (SuperCID) or not from same provider then the update fails (sometimes with disastrous results).

You can also use risidoro's technique (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043) to remove IPL/SPL from the nk.nbf and flash the RUU safely. I'm not sure if this workaround is good for aku3.3 and WM6 because i see so many people making use of Shelltool to flash WM6 ROMs

Great. I'll look into it.

So in general, it's easier to deal with changing ROMs with a CID unlocked device rather than making sure you do not have the SPL/IPL in a ROM and trying to flash it to a CID locked device?

Yes, just be careful with the DOC version (G3/G4) because newer nk.nbf have both and RUU picks the right one but some cooked roms with IPL/SPL may be specially for one of them - Molski's 2.26 for eg.
