I noticed that earlier preview and beta versions of the HTC Kaiser had glossy black back battery cover. More recent versions however have matt black cover. It looks like that HTC will ship the Kaiser with the more recent matt cover.

Do you think we will be able to get the glossy covers from somewhere else ?
Yes I know that the matt is less slippery, and the glossy black is like a fingerprint magnet. But since I am a current owner of a black Trinity, I can tell you that the glossy black looks very classy. It also matches the glossy black front borders of the Kaiser.

I hope we can have a glossy black back cover as an accessory that we can buy separately.

Hi

The were gloss but due to feedback regarding how quickly a glossy back gets covered in finger prints they will ship with matt back covers.

All the latest images show matt black.

I know, I could figure out that HTC decided to go with the matt cover because of the fingerprints issue, but would still like to be able to buy the glossy one separately. Maybe a third-party will make it available.

If it's just a cover, you might be able to get a replacement one, like the Nokia fascias.

I personally prefer the look of the matt one, but that's just me...

Well, I haven't tried the matt finish yet, because I don't have the phone yet obviously, but it seems to me that the matt finish will scratch very easily and will start to look old very quick.
The glossy black cover I have on my Trinity still looks good after 8 months of heavy use.

I prefer the Matt finish over the glossy one. Tried playing around with a black Trinity for a while and the back cover had my finger prints all over it.

who's Matt?

its matte. :D

I like the matte cover. I actually hope its more of a rubberized back to be tactile to a flat dashboard surface when driving.

:D

The glossy shows finger prints and the matted shows greasy finger prints.

In either case, you'll constantly wipe the thing on your shirt and pants.

You don't want your hands to be in a bag of chips when the phone rings!

who's Matt?

its matte...

Not in England - home of the English language - it isn't (at least not for a few hundred years): http://snipr.com/1pd9y.

Now, where are all the Kaisers? They must be coming soon... And I don't care how shiny they are as long as one of them has *my* grubby fingerprints all over it as soon as possible!?!

Pardon my ignorance. What do you mean by officially announcing today?

HTC have not actually announced the existance of the Kaiser, it doesn't appear on their website.

There was a suggestion that today was the date they would do so, and hopefully trigger some more press releases from carriers.

Having said that it looks like the suggestion was wrong :-(

Can't recall where...possibly video demo from microsoft rep in Germany, but remember comment about rubberized back for grip purposes and the raised GPS/external antenna cover intended to protect rear camera lens while laying on flat surface. Seemed to be very well thought out design.
