I have a new (refurb) Cingular 8525. Ihave been doing a lot of reading and research. The amount of information available here, Is damn near intimidating. The first thing I need to do is flash the radio. The shipped version is 1.16.00.00, and the signal strength is terrible. Since everyone here, sends the newbies to Mr Vanx tutorials that is where I started. I flashed to Olipro 2.10. And my bootloader confirms the flash worked. The next step is to flash the radio. But his instructions say to use autodetect. This does not work. So I went to the Olipro post for v7 and he says in his instructions that autodetect will no longer work, force SSL. But later in that thread when this question is asked, the person is told that if he knows that it is 2.10, then check that box and the one that says is it hard SPL. When I try that it warns that it is for version 1.11...etc. I would really appreciate some good advice. Thank you in advance, for reading this far.

The conflict is actually that the custom_ruu has been updated to properly auto detect. You can either A) get the new Custom_RUU (and that should work) or B) just select Oli2.10 and check the box for HardSPL and keep going.

Thank you for your prompt reply. And forgive me for questioning your advice. Is the latest radio 1.50 packaged with the latest Custom RUU? I downloaded the one from This Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1178785&postcount=1) in the resources sticky. And it still could not query the device. And if I try the method you suggested it gives me the following warning:
"Please be aware that this flasher is intended solely for SPL 1.11 and you MUST have 1.11 Hard-SPL installed in order to flash any unsigned files."
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
I have flashed my "Wizard" literally (see my signature) hundreds of times. With only a couple of minor errors. I would like to upgrade to WM6, in the very near future. But I paid too much money to brick this sucker!! (Read: My wife would kill me!)

Anyone else have any insight to this? I'm having the same gut wrenching inhibitions about trying out the vp3g rom because of this
"Please be aware that this flasher is intended solely for SPL 1.11 and you MUST have 1.11 Hard-SPL installed in order to flash any unsigned files"
error in the RUU

The RUU from that thread should autodetect, but if it isn't you may have a comm error with your USB. I am 99% sure you can just select and go, but I won't bet your Hermes on it. With HardSPL you are virtually brick-proof. If you use force SSPL, you will bypass HardSPL. I would do the following:
1. While NOT connected to USB, put the phone in bootloader mode
2. Connect the phone to the USB (this will prevent ActiveSync from hogging the port).
3. Start the RUU
4. Manually select Olipro 2.1
5. Do it.

Did my quoting the "whole notice" lead you to this post?

Yes, actually!
I wish more people would post like that things would be so much easier to find, Instead we have 3 gazillion posts that say "Somebody help me please!"

The Hermes Wiki needs to be updated as the old Custom RUU is posted and Olipro new RUU is only available in the thread mentioned above. I discovered this a while back and figured it would be changed by now. Leaving the old RUU on the Wiki is problematic and causes confusion for those not in the know.
My 2 cents.. :)

I'd update if I knew what I was talking about! I don't have the latest version of the RUU, and probably won't for some time. This installation went perfectly for me, I don't see the need to change any time soon! But if anyone else has the info, they should deffinately update the wiki
