Device: Oasis bluetooth GPS reciever
Not sure about the baudrates and such, I just pair it and manualy assign a COM port to it.

Software: TomTom 5 and 6, iGo 2006 and GPSDash (all working)

http://img.kelkoo.com/CS/medium/721/090/00153335431328214665462815084011382090721.jpg

Uses Nokia battery's :P Great when you have an old phone lying around :) Has good stanby and in-use time.

- edit:

All went very smooth, no hickups no failures. Works like it was intended :) Once paired, just turn on bluetooth on Touch, and turn reciever on. The rest is automatic :) Software such as TomTom automaticaly turn on bluetooth when a non-default reciever is configured. Just start TomTom and turn reviever on.

Used this reciever for about 2,5 years now. Never let me down.

I use one Globalsat BT-338 with the HTC Touch nicely. Just pair it once and BINGO...

By the way I use Destinator 6.11 with Brazilian maps and GoogleMaps Mobile connected to the GPS.

hi guys,

i bought my touch 3 weeks ago and i'm VERY interested in using it as a nav. with tomtom6 western europe.
i've got 2 questions coming up:
1: which bluetooth receiver can you recommend me (at a reasonable price)?!
2: i was wondering if you guys manage it with your storage card (because i'm one of those who are trying to download the maps (and everything else)
my point is, unfortunatly i've got 2 storage cards (each 1gb), one i'm using for daily life, the other card i would use for tomtom6!
is it possible to install tt6 on my storage card where the maps are located?!

thanks for helping me...

I used TT6 with GPS device AD750 from Adept on my wizard for +/1 one year, and since +/- 2 weeks with the ELF now, it works flawless.

hi guys,

is it possible to install tt6 on my storage card where the maps are located?!

Andi

Yes, but when you install TT6 and choose the storage card as install location, it still installs TT6 on the phone memory.
However, if i manually transfer the "navigator" folder from the "program files" folder (phone memory) to the "program files" folder (storage card) it still runs perfectly (you do have to create a new shortcut in the "\windows\start menu" of course).

SIRF chip can receive more channels than the Nemerix chip but power consumption is higher, ie you will need the recharge more often

I run TT6 from 1GB storage card with no problems. Just copy the map folders to the root directory of the storage card.

I am running google maps fine on my Touch, but there are no options for GPS receiver. Do ones automatically come up if you have one connected ?

I have a problem when trying to connect to my Nokia ld-3w gps.

-The GPS works fine with an old HP2110
-Other GPS works fine with my Touch

This is what I did:
-Bluetooth manager
-Add new device (It finds Nokia ld-3w successfully)
-Enter pass (0000)
-Select "Serial port" (the one and only option at services(
-Add outgoing Com port to Nokia (Com7)
-Start iGo

Nothing happens. iGo does not find any GPS... (Doing the same with my Colleague's GPS succeeds).

If I open Bluetooth and click on paired Nokia ld-3w and press "refresh" the serial port not always appears in services... Why? Maybe it is the root cause...

If I try to open Outgoing port com7 with APLsirf application (I use it on HP to swith off static navigation) it says that port cannot be opened. (Using my colleague's GPS, it works)

Please advice.

Sorry for the long post,
Andrew

Hi Goyoes,

I would also be very interested to know how you went with the touch car mount your purchased through eBay?

I bought a very similar unit but unfortunately, I get a lot of interference noise coming through the speaker when using the phone. It picks up these ticking and pulsing noises from the phone antenna. Don't know if the actual unit is faulty or if inherent design problem since the speaker and circuitry is so close to the antenna.

I'm using this bluetooth with my HTC ELF Enhanced http://www.visiontac.com/

I got it with the Odyssey Mobile 4.0 software but have also used it with Google Maps and Windows Live Maps. Overall I'm quite impressed. The ELF seemed to connect with the receiver really quickly without any problems. I keep the receiver in the ashtray of my car and as I step out/in the receiver connects without any hesitation.

The accuracy I found to be very good as well. I compared it to my friends in-dash GPS system for his Honda and discovered that this receiver always showed my actual position within a metre, whereas the in-dash Honda system was always a few metres off.

I don't know what I can say about the battery life as I use the car adapter that comes with it (very convenient).

I got to say this receiver is great. Here a couple pro's/con's for a quicker overview:

Pro's:
-highly accurate
-very small (fits in small ashtray, no ashes of course ;)
-strong satellite connection, still works even though hiding in closed ashtray
-very stylish, nice sleek casing

Con's:
-size can be a problem if you plan to carry the thing around, it really is small
-included case is ugly, don't bother using it
-too many cables (but they all serve different purposes)

Have you set the bluetooth connection NOT to be secure?
Encrypted connections are not recommended when using GPS over BT..

I'm thinking of buying TomTom Navigator 6 with the Bluetooth Receiver included. When I rang TomTom to buy it, they told me they wouldn't sell me it as it will not work with the HTC Touch (T-Mobile Touch 256).

Having said that, i have spoken to people who have it working on the Touch.

Seems a bit odd to me.

Anyone on here using the TomTom GPS Receiver?

Googlemaps doesn't use GPS - it uses triangulation of your mobiloe phone signal, so it's accurate to around 500m in city centres, but about 5 miles out in the countryside! Nice as a guide, but not for Satnav.

I consider mysetf a bit of an expert at using GPS and Satnav software on WM6 devices... you can pair up and use just about anything, just make sure you enable the serial port in the bluetooth connection and then create a new outgoing port (usually COM6) and make it unsecured, then if your satnav software doesn't autodetect, tell it to use com6.

Hardware: I've used Tomtom GPS, cheapo stuff off ebay, all worked fine. I now use a Holux GPS GR239, which is a cigarette lighter plug, SIRFstar III. It works without line of site, so it just sits plugged in all day in the boot of my car, and I don't have to think about charging it up or anything, and becaus eits always on, the fix is instant.

Software; I started on TomTom5, then TomTom6. Tried Copilot and Route66, but I'm now hooked on IGO8 - it has all the features I need, excellent speed camera warnings, brilliant 3d mapping including terrain textures etc... and easy to find if you know where to look ;-)

In the bluetooth settings, select the COM Ports tab, and create a new outgoing com port, assign it to the GPS unit and COM6, uncheck the secure connection tab.
IGO or any other device should see the GPS automatically.
Personally, I've given up on IGO now and gone back to tomtom, purely because it's quicker to use and select destiantions etc.

I am running TomTom 7 on an Elfin with the Holux M1000 works perfect.

I use the 2-4-6 method of setting it up on all my Windows Mobil devices.

Pair Bluetooth Add new Com Port, Com Port 2
External GPS Hardware Port 4
External GPS Software Port 6

I might have the Hardware/Software port reversed, I just know the first one it asks for gets port 4 and the 2nd one it asks for gets port 6.

For me it has been foolproof, always works. I started doing it like because I was getting conflicts with other devices I use.

Hi,

I recently purchased a RoyalTek RBT2200 to use it with my Elfin (Onyx 5.0 Beta 44 WM 6.5).

I am facing a very weird problem, I used certain GPS applications a couple of time and later I realised that the time (Elfin's) would advance by 1 hour. For example I used GPS Tracker, when I quit the application I noticed that the time went ahead by one hour, anyone faced this? any probable solution ?

I am quite confused

It sounds like either daylight savings is enabled on your device, or in the (oh crap, whats it called) your location and time zone is set incorrectly. So the phone looks at the network and is setting the time correct for a give time zone, and keeps changing your clock thinking the clock on the phone is wrong.

I'd check your time zone settings and check your DST (daylight savings) settings.

Thanks Capt..I think this was the issue, though when using GPS I dont use the data connection or wifi internet, but will try to disable day light saving setting and let you know,

Another information that is required is that my GPS device came only with a car charger, its charger power specifications are 5V 500mA, I have a USB cable which has its other end that is like the socket for charging the GPS, any idea how much output does the USB slot provides (USB 2.0), I need to know this so that I can use that cable to charge my GPS device at home
