Charmer WM6 TouchFLO

As promised. Charmer WM6 rom with TouchFLO and TouchCube with 4mb PP. Used Gullum's Touch v6 rom and modified it :)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323013 Added new welcome logo and ext_rom customization screen as well. SD card is also working now. The funniest thing is that I don't even have a charmer myself :P

You probably remember this but I am going to say it anyways so... :) You need at least bootloader ver. 2.xx to flash this rom.
Please, flash back to WM5 first if you have a WM6 rom on your device.

Flashing instructions:

Extract Charmer Touch.rar. Remeber to turn off your GSM module and make sure you have Active Sync connection. Run Upgrade_ROM.bat. When the screen goes green and the flashing is finished make a HARD RESET!. Press Camera and Voice Dail buttons (hold them). Put and hold the stylus in reset button for 2 seconds. Release it. Wait until you see some white fonts on black screen. Then release those 2 buttons. Push the green dial button.
Do not interrupt the cab install after the first boot.

Touch Cube:
To activate Touch Cube, drag your finger from the top bar straight to the very bottom. This works in not only on today, you can use it whenever you want. To exit the cube, slide your finger up.

I didn't have to do that. All I needed to do was to modify the registry, initflashfiles and .dll libraries. Plus some minor tweaks.

Thats it, that's the icon between two softkeys. If you don't like it, you can always use the softkey to activate touchflo.

Ok, it was set to 1 but with it set to 0 i still have the problem.

I have restarted my phone (power off not soft reset) checked the registry is still set to 0.

Any other ideas? Is it worth me detailing all the other reg values under that key?

For ref: The battery fix cab appears to be required still. (active sync charging)

I found this on a MS site, don't know is its relevant but its certainly missing form the registry. I would have tried it myself but wasn't sure where to input the last part. (PMCLASS_BLOCK_DEVICE)

Didn't have this Issue in gullum's ROM. Maybe incompatible driver or something like 'Auto-Insert-Notification' in 'big' Windows?
Screen lights up if the SD-Card is removed, but the device doesn't recognize the Card again until Soft-Reset.

The SD-Card's capacity is always shown as 'Card Full'.

And... in that Contact App you suggested, if it's tried to start the Camera from inside the Contact Manager (select pic for contact) it tries to start something that ends up with a 'insufficient memory' message. No other apps running, and > 30mb free.
Cam acts normal if launched by HW-Button or Programs -> Camera.

TouchFLO sometimes accidentally starts if you move the stylus to the lower left.

SD-Battery fix (registry) works, but SD-Cards aren't recognized until soft-reset, sometimes it needs 2 resets. 1% Battery consumption in 3h standby with phone on.

Found a bug in this release.
Installed it from a clean AKU 3.3 install.
Customization done.

Doesn't ask for my PIN, at least until I go to Comm-Manager -> Settings -> Phone.

if you don't have TouchFLO in the lower right softbutton you have to Hard-Reset and complete the customization..

I have observed that you will not notice the icon to start touchflo in the homescreen, however when in other windows alittle grey square shows up to the left of the keyboard icon.

Having used gullum's rom for the past few weeks I am missing the battery status, guess have to install individually, and the problems with the SD card is somewhat frustrating as I use the card quite often, anyway great stuff vlodeck

Hi guys I've been reading trough this thread and my Cube activation seams to confuse lots of people there is not supose to be any icon inbetween the 2 softkeys I just put that blue dot in the picture to demonstrate where to press and slide down.... thats the inportant part do a slide down to activate the cube .... be the next version vlodeck is making will have a better way :)

oh and that backlight icon doesent work I've removed it from my last version and it's just incompadible with other devices then ELF I think

A couple of points after first testing:

1. Each time it starts, it complains about Startclean.exe not being signed
2. Each time it starts, it complains that "elatepushservice" cannot be opened
3. If I allow the TMoble customization to go on it puts all the start icons in TMobile folders
4. The cube doesn't start up at all but the finger scrolling is perfect
5. There is no terminal services client
6. There is an icon for Clearview PDF, Midlet Manager but they don't do anything
7. Phonepad is listed in the SIP menu but doesn't do anything
8. Although A2DP BT works fine I can't get an Activesync connection with my PC over bluetooth - service not listed at all
9. USB charging much slower than normal (but at least it doesn't drain)
10. There are lots of black Today themes listed but the default (non-black) WM6 one isn't there

Please understand I am not complaining at all, just thought it would be good to list these things here.

If it helps, the best Charmer WM6 (non-touch) rom I have used is this one:

It needs a keyboard patch but after that you can change what the Calendar and Contacts buttons do. There is no need for the battery patch and it charges from USB very well. The only downside seems to be a lack of touch and it won't connect activesync via bluetooth. Might be worth you taking a look at that rom as well.

I wondered if it was possible to apply touch to a working rom but I don't know.

after delete a few autostart-progs
- the SD Card is OK... (24h)
- WM6 is faster!!!

tochFLO is OK, too... it is simple… the cube activated, if tip in the center of the lower bar and than downward

TouchCube works, just needs a little work. Drag the finger from the middle of the top bar to the down bar where the soft keys are.

The backlight switch will not work on any device except HTC Touch, thats the plugin bug. BT is working, confirmed.

I've always had to use "another method" so I've just been using the .nb file rather than following the instructions. Doh. If I then leave the customization to run then I get Tmobile nonsense, useless icons etc.

When I use YOUR customizations then the cube works perfectly. It's a great rom, be proud of yourself.

It makes my list a lot shorter when I do it properly:

1. There is no terminal services client
2. Although A2DP BT works fine I can't get an Activesync connection with my PC over bluetooth - service not listed at all
3. USB charging much slower than normal (but at least it doesn't drain)

The reason for not having the HTC Black theme is that is has been proven that it causes problem when used together with the homeplug all versions for Prophet,Artemes and wizard that have the Blck theme do frez on bootup and only way to solve it is a hard reset therefore I did not include it in the rom.

My friend confirmed Active Sync working over Bluetooth. It's unfortunatelly not the rom issue. Sorry.

Thanks gullum, I probably didn't say it right. What I meant was all the themes are black + I actually like the sort of blue green glass one that's the default on the non-touch roms. Trouble is, it's not listed in \windows (cos it's the default) so I can't copy it.

I pretty certain that this is the best A2DP i've heard too.

It appears to still be stereo with "JointStereo" set to 1 (within registry) and with a little adjustment to the other registry values (as detailed on this forum) the sound is great.

2/ It would be nice if you could change the onscreen messages in the installation BAT file (ie change 'prophet' to 'charmer' etc)

You probably restored backup. Don't do that. If you however did, please hard reset.

I did. New version is now in beta tests.

WinRAR is a crucial component in Windows :) even though you have a trial. Use it :)

Please flash back to the WM5 rom described in the first post and then try again. Read the intructions carefully. If you're using Windows Vista, try upgrading on a computer with XP.

Do the hardware buttons (calendar / contacts) work properly? I guess so, since the ROM is based on gollum's job, but I want to be sure about this. :)

youser: The keyboard drives has been replaced in ver. 2.1 so it could be mappable everywhere, not only in windows but in games as well.

Hi. I use Vista and quite often flash ROM using Vista. This is the procedure I follow:

If you're using something like RUU (official ROM's like downgrading to WM5 before flashing WM6), then you need something like VMWare Workstation to emulate Windows XP. It captures the USB port and activesync connects fine and RUU flashing works flawlessly.

When flashing the WM6 ROM without RUU, i.e. just like using the .bat file given in this ROM, it works in Vista just fine (but somehow doesn't in VMWare Workstation).

Have worked this method out after numerous failed attempts at flashing (or numerous attempts at bricking) my device, and for the last 5 or 6 times, this method worked without any problems. The last ROM I flashed was the WM6 Essentials.

That I believe the big bosses Vlodeck and Nocturne will be able to answer better. In almost every WM6 ROM I've seen, its been recommended that if you already have WM6 running, then downgrade to WM5 and then flash the new ROM. I don't understand it, but hey, big bosses make the rules :)

Yes, its definatelly better to have WM5 before upgrading to WM6. Otherwise the upgrade tool will not finish the flashing or the newly-flashed wm6 rom will get stuck on splashscreen.

No Sir. It works perfectly on my charmer. But the directory is now different if you have used a German version of the OS before the upgrade. Under "my documents" I have a folder called "my pictures" on my SD-card.

Well.. I'm using Vista x64 here.
Can use original AKU 3.3 RUU Update anytime..
Have updated to newest Mobile Device Center.
If original Update doesn't work try updating using bootloader mode.

Sorry to hear about the storage card probs, maybe you should try a hard reset and see if that cures the hiccups, anyway I am happy with version 2.0 as there is no major advantage for me to migrate quite as yet.

USB cable doesnt probably have enough power to charge the phone while in wm5torage. Try turning the screen off and tell me if the battery drain will still remain.

yep, still doing that with the screen off. About 2% drain in 10 - 12 minutes. Deactivated WM5 storage, reconnected, and charging normally again.

Now I´ve found out what´s wrong:

I had to install the both cab-files manually. And now it works like a charmer!
I have problem with itsutils.dll too. Can you describe, how to make it work?

OK, here is my problem:

I flashed WM5 in VMWare withou any problems.
But when I connected device to Windows Vista, then is recognized as Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter (in network adapters), not as Windows Mobile device. Then I can't rub update.bat.
Where is the problem?

So you're upgrading on vista, right? If you dont have a connection with Active Sync you wont be able to upgrade this rom.

OK I know this will sound daft...but how do you "Turn Off the GSM module" on the charmer.

Every time I try to install the Rom upgrade, it keeps saying please try restating the phone or Activesync.

Just soft reset the device and when it asks for PIN code click Cancel.

Take those two files in the folder (enablerapi.cab and cert_spcs.cab), copy them to your charmer through Active Sync. Take your charmer, go to File Explorer, find those just copied cabs and run one, then the other.

Launch the upgrade once again.

Maan, its not a rom problem, you just have to set up the GPRS settings. If you have a device manual, please read it. Guessing from the note, you've just given, you probably have chosen the wrong connection type. Choose (Cellular Connection (GPRS)), or anything that has GPRS in it.

If you need some further help, PM me. Your problem does not concern this rom.

nbf doesnt mean its German. .nb is just a single image, for instance OS or radio or Splash and so on. Nbf is like the combination of all that, in which you can put multiple .nb files.

That MDA Vario is just informational coded in registry.

You can extract nb files from nbf but I'm not going to explain to you how to do it. You can start at www.molski.biz.

I have problem with setup of default keyboard. The PocketCM keyboard is very good, but, how can I setup it for default keyboard. Whenever I softreset phone - SIP is back to default win keyboard.

Just a pair comment:

- when I installed the ROM (run the Upgrade_ROM.bat), it ended without any question. There was no green screen, no any other sign to mark the end of the success flashing. The DOS window closed, and thats all! I just HardReseted the device, and it worked and is working too!
- "4 MB has more ram and 8 MB is a bit faster" by gullum, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323013). Is it come from the version 4 mb or from the 8 mb?
- I haven't got the problem by the SD card, the IGO navi soft installed from it, and there was no other failure.

I love this release, go on, Vlodeck!!!

1. After flashing this rom you can easily go back to WM5. Just run the official RUU.

2. Yes.

3. This rom does not contain AKU 3.3 as it is not WM5 but WM6. If you have already flashed AKU 3.3 German rom, you cant go back to official AKU2 WWE WM5 rom as the RUU recognizes it as an "old" rom. But you can always extract the rom from AKU2 to .nb file and flash it with the tool provided here, for this wm6 rom.

Although frankly, I doubt it you would want to go back to WM5.



EDIT: emil: yes, you can flash that 2.69 radio.

Hello, I have a little problem... When I upgrade my charmer(branded t-mobile mda compact II) i have the latest rom official from t-mobile, a i hit "upgrade rom.bat" all is correct, no error but after the upgrade,it says "cannot upgrade itsutils maybe they are in use" after hardreset, charmer boots with original wm 5.0 but whitout the installation of cabs from t-mobile. Can you help me... before i tried to upgrade my charmer with wm 6.0 from nocturne... But nothing happend
after a hard reset, charmer has booted the origanal rom from t-mobile...

I flashed my Charmer now with the Version V2.1 and it´s great.
The PDA is better, faster and looks nice. No Problems, no errors like the old original Rom. :mad:
I never miss the "old" WM5 Rom in german from t-mobile :D
With PocketCM the MDA is the best PDA i ever have.

So, many many thanks to vlodeck and all who made this release for the great work & help.

I finaly served the problem with default imput method by something like "im_wm5.cab".

I have some qestions:
How works pool memory change (mean to 4, 6, 8 or 12MB)? I just changed to 6MB pool, but I cant see any change.

What about time settings. Why I have GMT+2 Jerusalem, when I select GMT+1 Prague? Because now we have sommer time (+2), but in few month will be here winter time (+1). But I think this is not big problem, will see in time changing.

This ROM is great! I love addin application like pBar.

I've made some modifications of the Cube animation. Simply what you have to do is replace all .brn files with the original ones from \windows in your device. For example, you want to have the "smooth&round" animation, so you grab all the files that are in extracted "p6_smooth&round" folder and put them and override in \windows directory of your device via Active Sync. You can see the animation provided here to decide wether or not you want it.

1. if i keep button 1 pressed (voicemail number), it dials and connects, but i get the message 'calls to this number are barred'. it is the correct voicemail number and works on wm5 without problems

2. no notification on new voicemail - no icon in bar or sound

3. no notification of new sms - no icon in bar or sound


any suggestions as to how i can rectify the situation so i can use this great rom would be very greatfully appreciated

My Charmer is AKU 3.3 German rom. i use Charmer-xBeta-flashtools downgrade to WM5 and then flash rom Charmer_Touch_ver._2.1 . the tochFLO can't work.

I never really liked my T-Mobile MDA Compact II (or any other Windows mobile based phone I saw before), but now with WM6 TouchFLO I do!

I read the first post and switched off the GSM module and started the Upgrade like it was described.

After the initalization and the clearing and copying of the Extrom an error occurs after starting : "Writing the new TouchFlo OS ROM"

First at all, this error is solved but I got another error message. During the TouchFlo OS ROM Task the line "3 partitions, 2binary,....." occurs and after a few minutes the following error occurs:"ERROR: ITWriteDisk - An existing connection was closed by the remotehost"

The activesync connection seems to be lost!

What can I do now?

Should I plug off and plug in again??

EDIT: I tried to enter the bootloader mode (like it is described in the Wiki), because the MDA was frozen, but it did not work and so the device started to make a soft reset.
Now I see the T-Mobile Splash screen with the GSM and OS version (GSM 02.19.21 and OS 4.0.0.0) but nothing happened.

Is the MDA no in the PPC heaven??
What can I do to rewake it and connect it to ActiveSync??

Go to bootloader mode and flash official WM5 rom, if you've got invalid vendor id error, download no_id ruu. And please dont ask here, were to find all of this. Just read the forums. EOT.

Couldn't find anything. In other news I could get the card to show up with this driver http://www.spectec.com.tw/driver/sdw820-driver-wm6/WLAN11b-PPC-Crossbow.CAB but I can't activate it in Comm-Manager or Wireless-Manager, It just does nothing. And after a while the Charmer just hangs and I have to softreset.

I gotta hand it you, this is one friggin amazing ROM. I tried earlier versions of yours and Nocturnes ROM's. None of them were enough to make me ditch my w810 and Blackberry combo.

That was until I loaded this!!

I'm am 99% sure that I will cancel my BB plan and go with a regular data plan on AT&T.

Why do I like it;

Everything just works. From the comm stuff, to the neat Network Wizard, which made GPRS setup a breeze. The interface (don't know exact name) of the today screen is awesome. In my BMW the signal strength bars show up correctly and it paired via BT instantly. Theres a lot more, like one of the ringtones, which is jsut right. IE works great. I'm using the gmail java app too which works great.

Dude, job well done mate.

PS: I was going to buy an iPhone this week, but have now decided to wait.

Its one of the most unpopular devices I'd say :) Nevertheless charmer was my first ppc phone so its kind of sentimental to me and I just can't get bored with it :)

The funny thing is that the charmer was given to me by my nephew; he didn't like it. As soon as I got it, I googled it, came across the xda-dev site and then starting loading ROM's like mad.

It was very unusable, imho, before with the standard WM5. WM6 was a bit better, but the whole windows mobile interface kinda sucks. This new interface for the today screen (what is it actually called) is the key differentiator. If you had a stock plugin it would have the same functionality as an iphone (well kinda anyway :))

Like I said, its very good. Makes the charmer a viable smartphone/pda now.

When you consider that the Charmer was available for free on the cheapest T-Mobile tariffs and also consider everything you can do with it including Sat Nav apps, it was / still is a good phone. The form factor is still pretty good, combining the large screen with out the phone being too huge. With a little overclocking the phone has always performed ok too.

The Touch seems to be a popular phone and yet with this latest wm6 ROM the charmer isn't too different and actually is better in the way it has more buttons.

Considering I don't live in a 3G area and I already have a BT GPS receiver, i am seriously considering keeping this phone rather than upgrading to the Kaiser.

I just want to add my thanks and congratulations to all involved in this rom, it is absolutely brilliant. I had so many apps installed previously to get something that was usable that the charmer was nearly unusable (memory problems). With this rom I have an interface that is absolutely terrific, it runs much faster and I am able to use the navi and still be able to take calls at the same time, previously charmer would have ground to a halt. The pBar toolset is excellent and somehow I have overclocked charmer to 299Mhz stable. Which has seriously improved the performance. All in all a brilliant package which now gives me the problem of what to do when my upgrade is available in November.

I had :-) a german T-Mobile Charmer with IPL 2.x and SPL 3.x
and WM 5 AKU 3.3.
Did hard reset. Tried to install. No go. Error itsutils in use?
-> only Bootloader working...
Flashed T-Mobile org. ROM (yes this one with Radio Rom fault...)
Finally WM 5 works again.
Second try.
Pdocwrite stopped with error -> only Bootloader... ->Flash WM 5 again.

Third try:
This time i stopped the installation of Extended ROM of WM 5
Start UpgradeRom.bat again.... and finally it came back without error!
Hard reset and trara WM6 :-)

So if it doesent work first time, dont give up!

The second thing is that I’ve flashed my rom twice, first time all's good, but on the second the camera applet in programs menu was not working. I've try the camera button - all the same.

The way i've flashed: roll back to wm 5 ...NVID -> updated to ......2.1. -> radio rom 2.69.

That was done twice.

1. if i keep button 1 pressed (voicemail number), it dials and connects, but i get the message 'calls to this number are barred'. it is the correct voicemail number and works on wm5 without problems

2. no notification on new voicemail - no icon in bar or sound

3. no notification of new sms - no icon in bar or sound


any suggestions as to how i can rectify the situation so i can use this great rom would be very greatfully appreciated


my thinking is that it might be a problem with the radio? :confused: is there a radio upgrade that might solve the problem? many thanks and have a good weekend

regarding the voicemail issue, thats not related to the rom as you will need to program the voicemail number into the phone settings.... the vmail number is your existing mobile number.

regarding the niotification issue, I would suggest a soft / set or reinstall of the ROM as a last resort

As many other users (not only charmer) I also have problems using other chargers than the original one (including PC active sync).

After being annoyed for the last weeks I found following information which also applies to me:

Charging is a problem of the type of ROM you use AND the type of charger you use.
HTC implented to check the device you connect on the usb port,
see this thread for detailed explanation:

Active sync or original charger: it will work anytime except when you use a cooked WM6 which doesn't have the batfix.cab installed.

An amber indication does not mean succesfull charging! To see if you charge watch the "Powerdrain" indication of the BatteryStatus today plugin for an indication like "+2000mW" or "+500mA" - no plus in front of the value means no charging. Be patient and wait at least 10s until you can be sure to have an indication.

Using any other kind of charger not fulfilling the HTC specification will work under following conditions:
- any 3rd party charger should work when you charged your charmer once succesfully with "active sync" or the original charger UNTIL a restart of the charmer.
- connecting any 3rd party charger and softresetting the charmer will charge the unit
- any 3rd party charger where pin 4 is grounded should work anytime - see the thread quoted above

Hope this information helps others too...

Some editorial changes:
I didn't mention it because I thought all users of Vlodecks' Rom knew that it has the BatFix.cab (in the extended ROM).
Charging via USB/PC: after a softreset you have to allow an active sync cycle, otherwise it won't charge (show it but not do it...)

I was not supposing to ask you for a fix as your ROM is perfect and "this bug" is as far as I could figure out HTC "homemade"....

Regarding Batfix: I had it all time installed, when I removed it (installing it once more and then uninstalling) I had no chance to charge my device :-) (trial and error method....).

As I mentioned in my previous post: The linked thread explains the behaviour exactly on my device... At my device I can only use "non HTC" chargers after a charge "via Active Sync", original HTC charger or connecting any other charger and soft resetting the device...
I'm completely with you regarding the "old" drivers!

concerning usb-charging... I don't think you have searched the site ;) it's full ov 'usb power draining wm6' threads... (even in this one if I remember correctly!)

try:
- soft reset while usb-cable is connected
- hook up cable only when device is in standby

I found this forum today and I have to say I'm now planning on keeping my charmer for a while because I went for a touch and it was too slow, but if the interface will work on the charmer than thats perfect for me.

However, this was the first time I attempted to flash my device and I seem to have buggered the phone. I ran the Upgrade_ROM.bat after having copied accross and installed the two cab files but I got an error in the batch file output (I didnt capture it before hitting a button to continue but it was something like Invalid access, nothing reffering to dropped connection as in a previous post) and the mda screen prompt said "Cannot execute replloy.exe"

The mobile was not responsive so I did a reset and now its stuck on the T-Mobile boot screen with some red writing in the top left hand corner

Can anyone help?

edit: Having re-read the instructions on post 1 I now realise I did not check whether I have 'bootloader v2' my phone is vanilla from T-Mobile a few weeks back after a repair - how do I know what bootloader I have, and is that likely to have been the cause?

I'm very impressed with the new ROM & have had it installed on my G3 Charmer for the last month. I installed it on my wife's Charmer a week ago & it installed fine, but for some reason her phone randomly switches itself on every now & then. Her phone has a G4 chip & the update was done from the latest Tmobile WM5 ROM. Apart from this undemanded turning on it works fine. I flashed it back to WM5 & then to your ROM again, but the problem remains (it does not happen with the WM5 ROM). The extended ROM programs were allowed to run as instructed & soft/hard resets do not solve the problem. It is a clean install with no other programs installed. Any ideas?

As an aside, I use Memory Map on my Charmer & it accesses map files on the SD card. With the WM5 ROM it had no problems, but with the WM6 ROM it refuses to open the maps (~300mb) unless I split them into smaller files. Is there anything different as far as you are aware between the two ROMs that might effect this?
