Touch Settings (development ceased) v.2.2 - Change EVERYTHING on your cube!

This application lets you customise your HTC's spinning 'cube' faces in many ways, changing icons, layout, which applications are launched, etc. You can change the following:

- Your Music/Pictures/Video programs (change which apps and titles)
- Your 3x2 APLauncher on the cube (change the apps, icons and titles)
- Layout of your APLauncher; positioning of icons, etc*
- Additional APLauncher Cube faces*
- Your Weather Location to be far more specific (i.e. not the limited in-built city selection)
- Your weather options (auto-update settings, etc.)


IMPORTANT NOTE: The app is no longer being developed - see this post. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324556&page=62) However, you may still request support from other kind users on this forum thread and I can confirm that it works well on the HTC Touch GSM (Elf). Users have also had success using it on the Sprint Touch, Vogue, OKTA, Touch Dual and Polaris, plus other mobile devices that have HTC TouchFlo correctly installed on them.

A lot of this is achieved via registry changes, on older HTC Touch devices (e.g. GSM Elf), a patched version of mediahubmini.exe is installed due to limitations of the in-built applications.

Installation instructions - Version 2.0 Onwards:
1. Copy the CAB to your device and run it.


Installation instructions - Older versions (before 2.0)
1. DELETE the file MediaHubMini.lnk from your \Windows\Startup directory and reboot... OR just terminate the process MediaHubMini.exe using memmaid, SKTools or another program.

2. Install the attached CAB file.

3. Run the app. (Start Menu -> Programs -> Touch Settings)

4. Click 'Save', reset again (close all apps, and power off your device properly first - otherwise changes may be lost!) and now your changes should be active.


Troubleshooting / Bugs
- If you enter an invalid path, then when you click Pictures or Videos, the device will freeze and you will see the spinning egg-timer forever. Reset, load the config app again and double check you have got the EXACT path to the executable correct.

- If you get an error that you could not install the cab because of "insufficient system priviledges / insufficient system permissions:

- Look into the settings of your device security model - check out this post for more information, or download Microsoft's Device Security Manager to alter your settings.

- Try the manual install version instead. See post on page three as well.

Thanks for this - I've had a look and you're absolutely right. The weather lists come directly from the accuWeather.com website, and they use a different system for North America. In fact, it's easier for me to just build the XML file into the app as there are incompatabilities with their 'zipcode' format and some of the home plugins.

Please try the new version v1.22 of the app and you should be able to select from many US cities. (Install to storage card perhaps as it's a bit larger now)

No! Please DON'T try to install using this method!. This version uses a different patch of mediahubmini.exe, so it WON'T work properly. In particular, the choice of "Other" for your music app won't work if you do it this way.

That's precisely why I wrote the installation instructions the way that I did.

Please could you edit your post to discourage this, as I don't have time to deal with the support requests that it would cause.

There is a default package in first post. "MediaHubMini_Original_Unpatched.zip" to be exact. That should put things back to default if I understand correctly.

Hi there Dave.

Yes, you'll find the button to Restore Defaults on the 'About' screen of the program. Sorry that it's not immediately obvious! It should revert all the cube settings back to their original ones.

Hi there, sorry you're having problems. This error message can occur for several reasons. Try these steps to cure it:

- Make sure you've done step 1 of the installation right - open a process explorer (such as MemMaid, or SK Tools) and make sure that you kill the process MediaHubMini.exe before you install the cab. You could also kill BioTouch.exe as well to be double sure.

- If you're installing to Storage Card, try installing to the Device instead.

- If you still get the error, try resetting your device and installing again - this honestly worked for me!

- Check there is enough free storage space on your device.

- Try a manual installation (zip file coming to first post shortly)

These are .PNG files located in the \Windows directory:

e.g. HH_LAUNCHER_44x44_videos.png for 'Videos'

Have a hunt around - or download Touch Settings and use the 'icon preview' feature in the 'replace icon' selector to browse on your device itself.

Interesting question, and one that I've been wondering about too. In the hex of the executable there's various references to auto update variables, but I'm not sure if it's stored in a reg key/settings file or hard-coded into the app. Can't find an obvious reg key that seems to store it. I'll have a hunt about and see what I can find...

No, you're right - at the moment those are your options. If enough people request icon-change for the M/P/V I can look into it, although by the sounds of what you're saying it might be a bit more tricky than that!

lol - was about to say... ...for people that were wondering, you just need to click after the titles (Music, Pictures or Video) and they are actually editable. My bad, there should be something on the GUI to indicate this, but I just liked the aesthetics more without borders etc.

Uff! Now i was asking how i can find out the code for my city (outside of US, i.e. EUR|DE|GM007|GOTTINGEN)... But I found it out myself. Although I want to note it here in the case someone of you has the same problem.

Go to www.accuweather.com and input "Town name, Country" into the search field. If you get shown the weather info for your city, don't look for the code on the website, it's in the URL! :)

Yes, you can delete this if you wish, but it might cause problems if you ever want to uninstall the program via the Control Panel as it won't be able to find that file. (there are others files copied to \Windows\ on installation, e.g. VJBrisk2.exe, mediahubmini.exe)

There is no feasible way that simply deleting mediahubmini.lnk from the Startup directory could cause this behaviour, there must be some other problem. Have you properly hard reset your device? (see Wiki) If you've hard reset your device and it's still stuck on the WinMobile screen, as a last resort try flashing a ROM to it. If this doesn't solve the problem I suggest getting it repaired/replaced.

Yes, although exactly which files need replacing depends upon which icons you are talking about - the ones on the cube (mediahub/APlauncher) or the ones on the home plugin? If you're talking about the ones on the cube, I think that somebody has already uploaded a CAB of them to this site - you should be able to find them with a search. If not, I can post a CAB of mine?

Hahaha bribery always works! Well, I can certainly CAB those up for you when I get home, but there may be a quicker way. I'm pretty certain that if you install the latest version of the hacked HTC Home Plugin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323495&highlight=2.0.720719), this will overwrite all the icons with the original black versions for you. And, check out this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325424) for various animation ZIPs, I'm pretty sure that there's a post in there with the original BRN files that you need to make your cube animation black again. On a final note, if there's not much installed on your phone yet, you could always hard reset the phone, and then soft reset before the customisation process begins. If all this fails, shout again and I'll zip up some icons/files for you tonight!

To hard reset: hold down send/reject buttons (green/red at the front) and reset with the stylus; keep holding the buttons till you get 'this will erase all your personal data' message, then press 'action' (big front button) to hard reset.

Once you've done this, wait until you get the "Align Screen" message. Proceed with these steps until the 'Today' screen appears, but then soft reset your device before the customisation occurs.

There doesn't tend to be much in the Extended ROM of the Touch, perhaps some of your operator settings and the like. You might want to download the CAB to make your extended ROM visible and then you can use File Explorer to run any CAB files that are needed from the extended ROM ..but obviously not the one that turns all your icons blue again!

Let me know if you need those files later if you change your mind.

Ok, I did it and I can't cancel the personalization program. I try to soft reset but nothing happened.

I'll try to remove the battery when it says 'Personalization will start in 3 seconds". Can anyone just tell me how to backup the GPRS/MMS configurations?

Yeah, that should do it. If, for some reason, they've disabled the soft reset button at this time.

This app neither installs the cube nor the home plugin. It's a tweaker. If you want the cube and the homescreen you need to flash the ROM like every other non-Touch-user does. :D

With original Touch rom on a Touch, the home screen should show the 'now playing' songs if you use WMP or AudioManager. AFAIK the mediahub should show the plugin for AudioManager, I'm not sure about WMP but I don't think so. Any other music player and, no, they won't be compatible.

Yep, you're right. Tried both N%6Estved and Naestved.
I've also heard from some other norwegians that made their own cities.xml that cities with æ,ø and å are tricky... :(
Gotta be a solution for it, since the cities are in the accuweather system...

This is 99% likely to be a 'file not found' error, rather than unsigned.

You're possibly not typing the correct file name into the 'Path' box, it should look something like \Program Files\Agenda One\agendaone.exe (I don't know the name of the agenda one executable / install dir)

Have you tried clicking the '..' button, then finding the file and doing it this way?

It's all about hooking into the biotouch.exe application though, which is what runs in the background to respond to the 'finger swipe' action. It then works out which of the three applications (MediaHubMini,APLauncher or QuickDial) to launch, animates the BRNs and then calls the appropriate app. So, yes, i could write a replacement app, but hooking into BioTouch.exe isn't so easy.

Off the top of my head though, I think it's been done - isn't there some sort of 3D glass cube or something, with a QuickDial style contact pic dialler on every side of the cube? Do a forum search, you should find your answer!

I've flashed the new ROM to my P3300 and all the elements are present, but I cannot get the cube to work. I've tried dropping a shortcut to Biotouch in various menus (settings, Programs etc) and managed to get it to work once. What am i doing wrong? I just want a button to press which makes the cube appear - it worked perfectly on v4.0 before I flashed with v4.1, but now Biotouch won't appear in the drop down menu to apply changes to the buttons menus. Hi,

i manually installed the prog as it is described in the installation file (at first i killed the process of BioTouch.exe and MediaHubMini.exe, then copy the files to the described folders and so on, at last a softreset). So far so good!

After softreset, when i first start TouchSettings i get the message: "Cannot read existing settings - is HTC TouchFLO installed?". TouchFlo ist installed, so i use the button "ok". The settings appears now: -and here is my little problem- :

On the AppLauncher is nothing (look pic1)! But I have Apps which you can see on pic2!! What's going wrong??

On MediaHub it's ok (look pic3)! I can change the Progs and they are working!

Any tipp welcome.

I think this is probably due to your registry keys being located in a different place. Could you do me a favour? Use a registry editing program and search for the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BioTouch\APLaunche r\

....if it's not there, can you see a similar key name? If you can get the location of the key to me, I can tweak the program to work for you!

This is really a great piece of work, making customisation simple even for geeks lik me!
I guess HTC will want to include this at some point in time in core product.
Anyway, as you make things simple, some always would like it to be even more simple. Where can I find information as to what the parameters should be for each app?
For instance I see that in the tmail.exe (linked to messages) it says -service "SMS". Where does this value come from?
I tried setting up with TomTom and it freezes the apps, maybe I'm missing a parameter like NULL or something...
Also maybe it is a way to create a shortcut to create directly a new blank SMS (instead of having to go through several screens)
If I could also create dial shortcuts to specific contacts (the standard HTC one forces you to go through 2 screens as it displays all numbers for one contact) by adding the phone number? I use ILauncher which includes such shortcuts, they are nice.

I realise my question is not directly inked to the app of Carlos, but it should help me (us?) make a better use of it!

The answer is that this completely depends on each application and what command line arguments it accents. A full discussion is really outside of the scope of this thread; but as you have seen, the tmail.exe program accepts a -service argument followed by the (exact) name of the MAPI mail store that you wish to display. Searching these forums should provide answers to some of the other command line arguments available.

Hmm I cant get the weather plugin to work for Esbjerg in Denmark.

I use Europe -> Denmark

Manually set: Esbjerg, DK
EUR|DK|DA008|ESBJERG or EUR|DK|DA008|ESBJERG| none of them work.

It displays the cityname on the homescreen but it doesnt get the data. I have checked the code with acuweather and it works fine there, with and without the last "|".

I have tried punching the data in and press save and then ok and save but it doesnt work, I have triede puching them in af reboot, and it doesnt work. Eventhough I press save it doesnt remember the info i punch in...

Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?

1. Click on the weather tab, choose 'Get from Web'.
2. Select a region, select a country and select a place.
3. NOW tick 'Set manually' and alter the text to read:
EUR|DK|DA008|ESBJERG
4. Click 'OK' in the top right of the screen.
5. Now click 'Save'.

It looks as though you have not replaced the original PNG file properly.
Unzip the attached files into your \Windows directory, then change the icons for your Mail to \Windows\AL_01.PNG and \Windows\AL_01_HL.PNG

This should fix it.

I have successfully installed Touch Settings and can working with all custom options well with the exception of one...the APLauncher.

Yes, I can change the icons to my custom ones and it does ask me to power down so changes with take affect. However, all this does is load my custom icon over the default one!

For example...
The first Email icon is still there but my custom icon is loaded over it, overlapping the text "Email" How do I fix this so that my custom icons with or without text completely overwrite the default ones?

Any help is appreciated...

Before we go down that road, could you just spin the cube around to the Quickdial page (with all the photos on it) - there is a button for contacts at the bottom of here? (the rectangular one with a silhouette of a head on it)

gnam: The fonts are nothing to do with Touch Settings, this must be a result of something else that you have installed or changed, perhaps while customising the today plugin / cube? Don't know! But, anyway, nothing to do with this app, I can promise you that.

SpikeUK: Look for contacts program in \Windows\ and point your icon to that. Is it \windows\contacts.exe ? Don't have my phone nearby

Anyone having uninstallation issues:
If, for any reason, you can't uninstall, simply delete the shortcut from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Touch Settings.lnk
then delete any programs in
\Program Files\Touch Settings\*

...simple as that. If you're really determined, you can also replace \Windows\mediahubmini.exe with the original unpatched version (see www.fatattitude.com/software but that's not necessary)

Hi, I just edited the touch bio thingie so I can launch pictures with teh new htc album and movies with tcpmp.
I have currently 2 littles problems with that now:
1st is: I leaved the param string blank for app 1_2 and app 1_3 but the system keeps launching the ugly and silly default "pictures and videos" browser. I am pretty sure this could be fixed but I do not know how. (I had the same problem using touch settings program).
2nd: How do I change file type association. I would like to open by default avi and wmv and so on with tcpmp.

It sounds like you haven't installed the program properly; it is supposed to install a new version of MediaHubMini.exe in your \Windows\ directory that doesn't launch the default "pictures and videos" browser. Try to re-install the app properly? Or download the 'manual installation' version and follow the instructions carefully.

How do I change file type association. I would like to open by default avi and wmv and so on with tcpmp.

Within TCPMP, go to Options -> Settings -> Select PAge -> File Associations and tick the correct ones.

Hi, I've installed the app on my HTC Touch and can use the app with no problems except that the (cube?) animation has dissappeared.

Before installing the software I used to get slide and rotate animations when using the finger sweep (left-right, up-down). Anyone else had this problem or ideas on how to get it working?

This application, (a new version of the old 'BioTouch Settings') lets you customise your HTC Touch cube/today screen in many ways, changing which buttons launch which programs, etc. You can currently change the following:

- Your Music/Pictures/Video programs (change which apps and titles)
- Your 3x2 APLauncher on the cube (change the apps, icons and titles)
- Your Weather Location to be far more specific (i.e. not the limited in-built city selection)
- Your weather options (auto-update settings, etc.)

See the screenshots below for more info. A lot of it is achieved via simple registry changes, some is slightly more complicated due to limitations of the in-built applications. A patched version of mediahubmini.exe is installed. See this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320571) for how it works.


Installation instructions:
1. DELETE the file MediaHubMini.lnk from your \Windows\Startup directory and reboot... OR just terminate the process MediaHubMini.exe using memmaid, SKTools or another program.

2. Install the attached CAB file.

3. Run the app. (Start Menu -> Programs -> Touch Settings)

4. Click 'Save', reset again (close all apps, and power off your device properly first - otherwise changes may be lost!) and now your changes should be active.


As an example, I have my Music/Pictures/Video apps set as following:

MUSIC: Windows Media Player (excellent HTC Touch skin at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315941)

PICTURES:
Path: \Storage Card\Program Files\Resco Photo Viewer\RPicView.exe
Params: \Storage Card\DCIM\100MEDIA

VIDEO:
Path: \Storage Card\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe

Troubleshooting / Bugs
- At the moment, the MediaHub screen continues to be displayed after you have made your selection. I don't particularly mind this but will be looking for a way to solve the problem eventually.

- If you enter an invalid path, then when you click Pictures or Videos, the device will freeze and you will see the spinning egg-timer forever. Reset, load the config app again and double check you have got the EXACT path to the executable correct.

- If you get an error that you could not install the cab because of "insufficient system priviledges / insufficient system permissions, try the manual install version instead. See post on page three as well.

I installed the Memmaid and killed the MediaHubMini task and then I could install it.

You can click and go in but it doesn't work.

How can we get this to work with the Sprint Touch?

Hi,

i manually installed the prog as it is described in the installation file (at first i killed the process of BioTouch.exe and MediaHubMini.exe, then copy the files to the described folders and so on, at last a softreset). So far so good!

After softreset, when i first start TouchSettings i get the message: "Cannot read existing settings - is HTC TouchFLO installed?". TouchFlo ist installed, so i use the button "ok". The settings appears now: -and here is my little problem- :

On the AppLauncher is nothing (look pic1)! But I have Apps which you can see on pic2!! What's going wrong??

On MediaHub it's ok (look pic3)! I can change the Progs and they are working!

Any tipp welcome.

I think this is probably due to your registry keys being located in a different place. Could you do me a favour? Use a registry editing program and search for the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BioTouch\APLaunche r\

....if it's not there, can you see a similar key name? If you can get the location of the key to me, I can tweak the program to work for you!

Agreed! I've had my Touch for less than a week and I've already done a hard reset at least 2 dozen times because of the tinkering. Unfortunately I use mine heavily for business...so it's been many late nights of reconfiguring!

Working on the HTC P4000 (WM6) with Kaiser's HTC Home Plugin 2.0.8, Audio Manager Plugin 1.02, HTC Taskmanager Plugin, HTC Touch Album Plugin, Latest version of Touch Settings.

Note: The P4000 is Canada's Telus Network version of the TyTn, except without the conference cam. Now my phone looks like a HTC Touch. Sweet!

right. seems impossible(not to a programmer) to get rid of mediaminihub file. i also have sprint and waiting anxiously for the update.

its also hard to find filenames bcoz the full path name gets cut off. does anyone know how to show the whole path of a file name? a simple enlarging the window is not available. thanks!:)

No worries guys... there is a slight difference in the registry setting between your version of the Touch and the original... I do have a serious question, though...I've scanned through most of the posts in this thread and even done various searches on the term "photoshop" or "psd" to see if I could find anyone who's put together some templates of the cube graphics and/or animations. Since it seems that most are using GIMP or PS to do their animating, I was wondering if anyone could share those layered files?

I don't mind having the bmps or pngs...but since all of that is most likely go into a PSD file when I start playing with my cube (that almost sounds dirty...I think I need a shower now) I'd really like to avoid starting from scratch and have the GIMP or PS native templates. Can someone point me to some templates? Even if they are unorganized but layered I'll take 'em. I'll even clean them up and make them purdy (neatly organized layers, etc) and re-post them with full credit back to the original author, of course...

Sorry for the double post but I thought I'd let everyone know that I put my money where my mouth is and also ignored my own advice....

All I have to say is -- Carlos...how can you afford to spend so much time in the Pub?? That damn beer cost me $7.47US. For that kind of money I could buy a nice (okay, maybe not so NICE...) case of beer and spend my entire Thanksgiving weekend in a drunken stupor dreaming about all the beautiful modifications I could be making if YOU hadn't beat me to the liquid grain!

BTW - Could I suggest that you add a quantity to your PayPal order? You would have gotten at least 2 beers from me that way....I would have started with 3 but once I saw the conversion rate of the US dollar I probably would have either stepped back to 2 or just flown over there and hand delivered a case from my local liquor store...and saved a few bucks. :)

Hang tight...Carlos is working on updating it to work with Sprint. The registry entries and some of the programs are different for Sprint. Be patient -- if you go back to beginning of this thread you'll see it took quite a while for the first release to get to this level of capability. Waiting a few weeks for a rather polished and finished product should be easy by comparison.

That said...Carlos, get out of the Pub already. ;)

I am sure you already have plans to incorporate option into your tool to auto-generate the required brn files with the new icons. May i have some idea when do you plan to incorporate this option? Firstly thanks for holding on for me - as tempting as it was to go down the pub, I've been very busy in my normal day job so it's been tight for time. And cheers for the beers and nice comments - am now up to 5 in total! (Yep, they genuinely do cost that much here in London ;-) )

So... I have today uploaded a beta to my site with experimental Sprint Touch support - however, I don't own a Sprint device so I'm going to rely on you guys to help test! Many thanks to D McAfee for his very helpful reg dump which assisted in the development of this.

Please download version 1.29b from www.fatattitude.com/software and let me know how you get on. To check it's working: Click on the 'About' tab within the program, you should see 'Detected Device:' near the top of the screen, and if things have gone right, it SHOULD say 'Sprint!'

Anyway, it's 50/50 whether this'll work first shot, but we'll get there.

Let me know how you get on, and please include helpful bug reports!

A quick update - basically, the reason this program doesn't work on the Sprint is because the phone uses BRN format icons rather than PNG. BRN is a propriatary format, so I need to build support into the program. See the above linked page for more info.

If anyone can help with code in this regard (BRN support for vb.net CF) then please get in touch!

I had changed the media hub in the registry manually. But this is sooooooo much easier. You can swap things around in a snap with this.

No, this has been covered before, you might be ok - see www.fatattitude.com/software - look under Support for Touch Settings (or search this forum) - let us know how you get on! If it doesn't work I'm sure we can get it working for you.

I manage to install HTC Touch in my Gigabyte gSmart 128 using HTC-Touch Cube easy one touch install version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=348437:

However, mediahubmini, quickdial & accweather cannot run on my pda but aplauncher, biotouch can. So using your TouchSetting I set the links to other apps in PDA then uninstalled HTC home.

HTC Touch (app launcher and mediahubmini page) still runs. The problem is when I use touchsetting again, first it ask about HTCTouchflo, then the aplauncher tabs show no image, path/links. How can I fix this?

You haven't installed the program properly by the sounds of it. It is suppose to put a new version of \Windows\mediahubmini.exe onto your device which is patched to stop this behaviour.

Try the manual installation perhaps? (extract the mediahubmini.exe file from the zip and copy to your \Windows\ directory)

I didn't load the "program" I edited the registry. I think the last time I tried to load the program I got an invalid certificate error then never did go back to re-install manually. Since then I have manually updated the cube for Opera Mini successfully & thought I could do the same for Resco....If I try to manually install now with my changes will I corrupt anything?

I did all of this....have access to change the settings in the mediahubmini & the same thing happens...1st Pictures & Video launches then the resco app...which takes forever. I manually installed from the link on PG 1...did I not get the patched version?

Sorry for all the posts...but thought I would report back....I got it to work yeah!!! I had to drag a copy of the Mediahub file to my storage card then Copy To my Windows directory & voila...Originally I copied the "zip" file to my storage card then extracted...I think??? Then I could see the folders with the files to copy to the respective directories...for some reason I could NOT copy this Mediahub file to windows without getting the error, all other files worked fine. I moved a copy of the Mediahub file from by desktop to my device then copied to windows & it worked.

I have just finished work on v2.0 of Touch Settings and need some help testing the pre-release version.

In particular, I am interested to know if it works on the Touch Dual, Vogue (Sprint) and any other new variants, such as the New Zealand release.

I attach a time-limited beta (expires on 13th December) I would be grateful if a few people could try it out for me and feedback. New features: Generates your cube animations, Easy installation, Vogue/Dual compatibile, QuickDialer integration, No need to reset device to activate changes, Main Menu screen and lots lots more.

For now, can we keep all feedback to this thread.

INSTALLATION: There is NO LONGER any need to kill any processes, or overwrite any files, just copy the CAB to your device and run! As ever I recommend you backup any important stuff first. Please note that as this version generates animation files you might want to copy your \Windows\A0.BRN...A5.BRN and so on to a safe place just in case!

Carlos... I'm running the Sprint variation... this is what I'm seeing

On startup:
- could not find weather settings,
- could not find quickdialer

On reset I get an error dialog with thew title... MediaHubMini.ptc and the text:

There is no application associated with "MediaHubMini". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application

When actually running the program I noticed the media hub (3 program face) had the old images rather than the ones I had replaced them with... preview animations did reflect the changes I had made to the 6 program face.

Once restarted everything was essentially the way it was prior to running TSv2... once rorations completed buttons change to new values but animations still old... this may be a result of whatever this error is that is occuring on a reset... I've attached the log.txt generated... thanks for your great work

I'd really like to modify my cube to launch some different programs. I cant for the life of me find the MediaHubMini.lnk from in the \Windows\Startup directory. I have the phone set to show all files and everthing. However in the \Windows directory I can find the MediaHubMini.exe. I have no idea how to terminate the process though. I figured since I didnt have the .lnk file I could just install the settings program but no go. When I go to do it it just says I dont have sufficent system permission, which I assume is related to the MediaHub file. That said. If someone could let me know how exactly to terminate the program please let me know. I had installed Memmaid before and couldnt for the life of me figure out how to do it. I'm looking at downloading the SKtools to do it but I know I'll run into the same problem so maybe if someone who has sucessfully dont this already could give some direction to us novices out there.

Also, on an unrelated topic. Would it be possible at all to have both touchflo (set to drop down from the bottom by a swipe) as well as the touch commander (set to run from swipe up) running at the same time? I like the idea of having a tons of program shot cuts like I can have in the touch commander. Plus it would just be neat I think to run both.

ok i have installed it on the New zealand OKTA touch, and when you open it you get 2 error messages the 1st is "couldn't find your setting for the uick dialer" and the 2nd on is "error reading bitmap for aplauncher screen:contact not found"

also under the animation menu i if i press the preview or activate button i get the message "animation failed: no stored image for aplauncher cube face"

nothing works on the quickdial screen.

hmm have just done a soft reset and now i have the folowing message "there is no application associated ith "mediahubmini". run the application first, then open this file from within the application" :-(

Even though i have changed a picture in the app launcher it does not change on the app launcher window, but it does lauch the programme i have selected for it.

Thanks very much for this feedback, really useful! Don't worry about the "There is no application" error, I know what is causing this and will fix it. If you could help me out with these further questions, I think we might sort the other problems and get the app compatibile with your phone:

1. Do you run the HTCHome plugin? If so, do you know where in the registry your weather settings are stored? Touch Settings looks in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\S ettings

Perhaps you could send me a dump of your registry so I can work it out? (see bottom of this message)

2. From your log.txt, Touch Settings cannot find your QuickDial contacts in the registry. It looks in:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Contacts
and
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickDial\Contact s

....do you know where these are located in the registry of your device? Again, a regdump would help me greatly.

Thanks for testing on the OKTA. There should be a file called log.txt in the directory where you installed Touch Settings, if you could send this to me, it would be really helpful. In addition, I really need a registry dump from your device so that I can locate the missing keys that the program requires.

What icon did you add to the APLauncher? A PNG or a BRN? It's odd that your new application launched, but the icon didn't display. Was this after a soft reset? Again, the log.txt should help me work it out, just let me know the name of the icon you were expecting to be displayed.

Touch Settings doesn't currently allow you to change icons for the MediaHubMini (3 app side) of the cube, but I shall get round to this asap as it's long overdue and an easy upgrade to make.

Hold fire and I'll get it working on your devices! Works like a dream on my original HTC touch here in the UK. :-p

Finally, if anyone wants to send me their \Windows\mediahubmini.exe, \Windows\quickdial.exe, \Windows\biotouch.exe and \Windows\aplauncher.exe from a TOuch Dual or Sprint those would also be useful in degbugging.

Could you guys above possibly do a registry dump for me? You can PM the dumped file to me if that's acceptable to you. I attach a tool to run on your Desktop PC that will achieve this; unzip and run regdump.exe; you need your phone connected via ActiveSync. Inside there should be values names {0} to {8} with values like -283712646 or similar to this.

now the QuickDial tab cannot be used (the cube face on top-right corner is not clickable)

for your info, the contacts key in Touch Dual is:

[HKLM\Software\HTC\Contacts\<n>] (where <n> = 0-8)
LastUpdate = <a hex string>
OID = <hex value pointing to contact id>
PHONE = <string of phone number>
PHONETYPE = <hex value telling which phone no in the contact>


2. upon initialization - Building Cube..., encountered error "Error Reading Bitmap for APlauncher screen: Contact Not Found"

if go to the APLauncher tab, will see a blank cyan screen on top-right corner. i found that it's the problem in expectation on the registry key value:

seems TS is expecting the IconPath key value as something like "\Windows\BlueAL_06.brn" (a full path) while the APLauncher.exe on Touch Dual uses simply "AL_06.brn". that is, APLauncher.exe expects the .brn files in \Windows\ and the ColorSkin prefix is added only upon image file loading instead of pre-stored in reg key.

due to this discrepancy, if choose another pair of .brn using TS, that area will become blank (showing the aplauncher background image) in the cube.

due to this problem, i can't try the Cube Animation feature now.


3. TS still mis-recognize my device as a Sprint.


4. I can successfully change the audio player from HTC Audio Manager to MS Media Player. I didn't try out the other two as I suppose it's just the same.


5. App and Params on APLauncher are properly read from registry.


6. Weather - can successfully use TS to change to another city, and then download the latest weather status of the selected city. however, will not be able to use the built-in HTC Home feature to change back to previous city immediately, but need to change to a 3rd city beforehand.

i found that it's the problem of a key value not properly set:
[HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings]
CityIndex = <a hex id of the selected city>


7. after soft reset, got error (window title = "MediaHubMini.ptc"):
"There is no application linked with MediaHubMini. Please execute the application before opening this file from application program"

even with this error, i can still launch the target music/image/video programs from the cube.


8. it may not be appropriate to assume A0, B0 and C0 as the cube face. like my own animation package, A0, B0 and C0 are part of the animations and doesn't look like the cube face when animation stops. see sshot08.png and u'll know what i mean.

I hope that it is merely a settings problem. From what I understood in Kona_mtbkr's thread, there are differences in the dll's that aren't implemented in the older HTC devices so that QD V.2 won't even run on my BA. I hope that this is incorrect. If there is no other solution, could I run the newer sub-apps (Biotouch, apploader,and mediahub) with the older version of QD? That would at least allow me to have the advantages of the other program's new features.

ops i tired using a png file instead of a brn.

but with the app launcher if you touch on different icon pics the other icons change depending on what one you are looking at, for example if i touch the bottom right one, the top right one changes to a different icon and then when you go to the cube screen it seem to display in the top right box what it was displaying when you touch on the bottom right box in the touch settings programme (hmm i hope this makes some sence) and when you press the button it will briefly change to the icon i picked when selecting the top right box

I went through for kicks and changed everything out even animations to the redsnake pack for test.

The animation files all updated; was able to successfully change some applications; the only issue is on the Dialer screen. That didn't seem to take. Icons swapped out but the dialer modification screen seems a bit out of sync. Going back in on the advanced setting tab to see if I can hard map it.

Obviously I only have an original HTC Touch so I can't examine my own device to find this kinda stuff out!

When I continue and go to Animation, the animation preview looks good, it animates the "new" icons ok.

NP; I can zip up a couple of the animation files that are pretty cool to be able to flip to at will; like Barrel; 4D Cube; Paper; Fire etc. most of them are up in the main sticky post. Those four are attached; probably a cool start to play with...

I am not running any more cube sides; if this is possible that would be slick as hell dude.

I've also noticed on update / reset; that the AL's are getting messed up; don't come up...Tried to update with both BRNs and PNGs; neither are working.

Again Sprint Touch US.

Yes I use the HTC Home plugin and I use your application to set my weather to Rochester New York across the pond in the States

Interesting that some people are able to activate the animations whereas I get the file access exception

Yeah Bazzz; got same issue; had to hard copy all my icons over using Total Commander 'cause they didn't go through.

I think Carlos is going to check after work today/tom. He said he also spotted the issue in trying to update the Dialer/cont. from my log I copied up; perhaps it's part of the same issue...

I was able to use PNGs or BRNs in the previous Sprint version for my cube icons now neither seem to work.

Great news for all those of us who have been having problems with the new version of QD. JasonStern over in Kona_mtbkr's Ftouchflocontrol thread posted a cracked version which doesn't check hardware type and it solved my problem:).

QD now works on my BA and it is fast!! no more 3-4sec delay every time it comes up. Here is the link to the post:

That iCube application works pretty good for a 4th side too; bascially turns into a huge ICONIC Start menu...

The cube animation is the hottness from that cab install though; IMHO...

I like the squeeze up and squeeze down. :eek:

PS: If you're getting black cubes, the issue is that in the registry the older Touch devices used a full pathname (\windows\AL_01.BRN for example) but the new ones just put the filename (AL_01.BRN) so if you forgot to back up your registry, there's a pointer to fix it temporarily until I get the app sorted.

okay I finally got the mediahubmini.exe terminated and installed touch settings but every time I start up the program it tells me "Cannot read existing settings - is HTC TouchFLO installed?" I thought maybe because I had touch commander installed to (So I have a touchflo like menu in landscape mode) Anyway I uninstalled that and still nothing. I cant modify any of the applications... just the mediahub and weather which actually already has my city on it so I dont need to do that. Anyone have any ideas as to what I am doing wrong here?

Right, here's a new beta [REMOVED - SEE POST 259 FOR NEWER VERSION] with a re-written engine based on all your great feedback and registry dumps from the last 24 hours.. ..we move closer, I hope, to getting support for all the different varients of the Touch out there.

As ever, please remember to backup your reg & animation files before installing, and it's not recommended for novice users.

This version WONT fix any existing problems that might have been caused by any bugs in previous ones, etc, it will be thrown by any odd registry settings, so please ensure you've restored your registry etc. before trying it out.

I really look forward to hearing whether it works on your devices, particularly on the Touch Dual, Vogue and OKTA.

Experimental one works fine so far. Using the Sprint Vogue. I saw your reply linking to this thread. If you get a black icon, just make sure you use correct BRN files in the windows root structure and you'l be fine.

Still need to deactivate Mediahub.exe and then you are allowed to install the cab file. Great work man! Is there something for this to control the launcher application? I have seen some iphone themed cabs, but no settings program.

Ok I finally got the opera brn to work in the cube as mentoined before, however how do I change the "animation" part of the cube? It still shows IE

I understand I can select the transition brn files, but how do I create the custom one so it will show my opera brn. I have found a customizer tool online Custumizer (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1687493&postcount=463)
, but it doesn;t seem to work on the HTC Vogue by sprint.

Ok I finally got the opera brn to work in the cube as mentoined before, however how do I change the "animation" part of the cube? It still shows IE

Hi there, have you tried the newest beta of Touch Settings? (v2.12pre) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1731118&postcount=240 (Uninstall any existing versions first)

It has the ability to automatically generate the requried BRN files for your animations, without you needing to use the 'Customiser' tool you mention.

You should be able to go to the Animation tab of Touch Settings, click 'Preview' to check it looks ok, then click 'Activate' to update your animations.

Backup your reg & BRN files first please.

Sorry for the late response to 2.12 Carlos... I posted a reply last night but I must have fumble-fingers something because the post is not here.

I'm using the Sprint Touch... I did a hard reset to return to factory registry settings and installed 2.12... still will not allow animations to activate... generates a file access error... Question are you attempting to overwrite existing bitmaps or are you creating new ones and changing regisrty to reflect new names... (I suspect the second approach may be the one that will work)

The only way I've been able to change media hub images has been to create files with new names and change reg to reflect... never been able to just replace like-named images because of permissions issues... even when stopping all related processes

Again thanks for all your hard work... I'll be buying you another beer this weekend -- count on it!

I'm assuming that everything else works ok, though, right? Can you now see the fully built QuickDial screen, and the test preview animation? This would be a great leap forward!

It's odd, because I am overwriting the existing bitmaps, yet on my device (original HTC Touch) this is no problem at all. It's not as though the files are locked by any particular process, they're only briefly read from disk when the cube is rotating.

Perhaps I'll try the second approach, but there's bit disk space issues here, as each BRN file is 150k, so we're talking around 3-5Mb of Storage space for the whole lot.

Could you check the file attributes of your \Windows\A0.BRN file for me? Is it: read only? System attribute? I could try removing these attributes from within Touch Settings before overwriting; this is what I had to do to get it to automatically patch mediahumini.exe on older devices.

Additionally, it's worth bearing in mind that, to my knowledge, nobody's found a way of shifting the files out of \Windows\ on a Touch Dual device. On a Dual, the reg keys contain only a file name (e.g. A2.BRN) - the Biotouch apps add the prefix \Windows\ and a ColorKey, e.g. Blue in front of the filename. If somebody could find where it gets the '\Windows\' path from that would be a big step forward, as we could move BRNs to other folders etc.

Pretty much got the same error during the activation of the cube. The preview works perfect!

Hi i'm an Italian guy, i have installed the "touch setting" like in the guide...but now i have the page with music, photos, video (in the cube) "all black" and don't have the icons, but before was grey...

Please help me...

(PS: anyone still getting the 'There is no application associated with...' error on startup, uninstall from System/Remove Programs and re-installing should fix... ...basically there's a \Windows\Start Menu\Startup file called MediaHubMini.lnk that you need to delete)

I just started getting this error today, which also coincided with the notice that the beta for v2.0pre had expired. They might be related.
I do notice that your beta expiration dates shows 12/13/07, so not sure why I got the expiration warning. It's still working though.

I'll install the v2.12pre, and I'll update my findings.

Interesting result today with 2.12... quickdial worked when I reset device but the minute I synced with my outlook contacts and added names into my dialer the Touch Setting App started throwing errors ... Null Reference Exception at TouchSettings.BmReader.AssembleQDialBitmap()... Top three images are now blank and switching to the animation page kills the app

I've include the log file for your viewing pleasure
