Hey,

Sturggling with this now, so here asking for help.

Got a new P3600i here. For whatever reason, i CAN NOT run SSPL or any RUU updater. everytime it runs, it goes to reboot to the tri colour screen, but hangs on a black screen. I can't use any tools to unlock the phone, update, apply hard SPL etc.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

thanks

for now, not, but you can describe the version of rom, and if it will be upgraded, it can possible to try to extract it and post!! ;)
bye!

Well, thats the funny thing, its the exact same:

ROM: 3.00.707.18
Date: 07/24/07
Radio: 1.46.30.11
Protocol: 32.79.7020.19H

IPL: 1.00
SPL: 3.03.0000

Its exactly the same as latest WM6 official ANZ rom.

Any ideas??

That's why I wanted an extracted version of the P3600i ROM.

It can't be the same as the Dopod WM6 version for the P3600 (ordianary Trinity) because it's about 25MB bigger than the Dopod ANZ version. There must be something added to the P3600i ROM.

Can you try flashing to the Official Dopod ANZ WM6 version (ROM: 3.00.707.18) from the HTC website to see what happens?

Better still, if you know how extract the P3600i ROM so one of the many tech wiz's aroud here can have a look for you.

Anyone who knows how to extract the ROM plz can you post a step by step for those of use who don't know how.

Thats thew thing. I downloaded the offical ANZ WM6 update for the D810/P3600 and updated using that. Worked perfect, updated and no problems, exactly the same as was on there.

However, i then tried to "downgrade" to an official WM5 rom, but its stops at 1% then reboots phone??

capeli

So
WM6 Dopod ANZ ROM which takes up about 73MB on the P3600, will take up 96MB on the P3600i? WTF?

Perhaps it has something to do with extended ROM. I know that with the
P3600, you could not use the extended ROM after updating to the Dopod ANZ ROM...not sure if that's indicative of anything.

Are you flashing with an SD card still in the device? If so try flashing with SD card removed.

What was your free storage after flashing?

What was your free storage after flashing?

Free storage was 174mb. So i've gained 14 mb from somewhere.

Trying to update now using an official HTC branded rom, as opposed to the Dopod braded WM5 roms, and that still doesnt do it either :(

So there is a difference between the ROM that came with the P3600i (Giving 160MB free storage) & Official WM6 Dopod ANZ ROM (Giving 174MB Free Storage).

If it's any help, when I buy my P3600i, I'll be sure to extract the Original ROM BEFORE I flash it. It might help someone figure out your flashing issue.

Thing is I don't know how to extract ROMs. Can anyone help?

MMM, theres seomthing (buggered if i know what) in the EXT rom that adds that 14mb. I didnt run the extended rom, and i saved 14mb. If i let it run fully, it ends up with 160mb free.

Also, no WM5 HTC or dopod rom works. They all state that the update file is corrupted and reboots at 1%.

I called HTC, and said i "had to have WM5" due to software and in the infinate helpfulness told me to buy a Dopod D810 then. Theres no WM5 available for the HTC p3600i.

I think theres something in the SPL/IPL thats stopping any SSPL bootloaders being pushed onto the device, which then stops flashing anything else...

Hopefully someone will figure it out.

Why don't you use the registry tweak to show the extended ROM to see what's in there?

Doesn't the extended ROM automatically run itself? How did you stop it?

If you reset before the ext rom runs, it doesnt run on reboot. I don't care for all the customised crap half the time and choose to install what i need.

Well, i'll settle for the fact i'll have to manually install each app/tweak etc until a time i can update the phone.

I will say though, that having used the D810 for the last 5 months, everyday, this one seems a LOT faster (even using the official rom as well). the extra 100mhz seems to of made a big difference. now to see how it effects battery life.

OK, honestly would love some help from anyone that can :s

Tried all the following things now:

Using MTTY

Using SPL Exploit (finds overflow, says is done, SPL remains the same.)

Using DES SPPL

Running SSPL on device seperatly

And flashing various official WM5 roms in the hope it downgrades IPL/SPL.

All have resulted int he same outcome.... NOTHING!

I'm guessing this is HTC's new method of preventing flashing roms, and is likely to obviously be on other roms in the future. Was hopiung someone (Oli, pof, Des etc) may have a solution or would like more info form me to find one??

Nope :(

None.

Beyond my technical skills now, so its up to the gods of modding (Oli, Des, POF etc) or its never getting flashed.

Mind you, seems to be stable as at the moment using the official rom, so not too worried.

i wonder if this has something to do with the new ipl? maybe ipl 1.00 plus whatever is hidden in the 3600i rom or extrom or whatever makes it not able to flash unofficial roms.. Cause there's nothing else really different than p3600's that we know about.. and some people (inlcuding me) have ipl 1.0 from the official ROM upgrade.. so maybe there's something else in there that works with it to block the upgrade process..

mxlaser
27th August 2007, 02:07 PM
Well, its not in the EXT rom, and it probably can't be in the normal rom as its the exact same (meaning i downloaded and flashed) the ANZ WM6 official rom. Only thing possible i can think of is possibility its a hardware revision stopping it, but it won't let you even run SSPL software either.

Everything i do, SPL Exploit, DES SSPL, RUU Updater, Hard SPL et all ALL result in it "almost" going to the modified boot screen but ending up with a black screen. You then need to soft reset which leaves you at the previous bootloader...

Sucks. And is annoying as all hell. One saving grace is the extra CPU speed makes a big difference, and the extra storage means having to install all the apps that get cooked into the roms is that big a deal as theres plenty of room left over.

That said, i can't even update to that latest radio rom, which is what sucks the most.

Did you try to disassemble a ROM from nbh to nb, and reassemble it with the new offsets we can see in Dopod WM6 ROMs ?

The P3600i has 256MB NAND in oposite of the 128 Mb NAND of the regular P3600.

To flash this device you need bootloader 3.x or higher, and OS rom must be tagged 0x401 in the NBH (not 0x400, which is used for 128Mb NAND), also you should use a new RUU (the on the official WM6 rom should be ok).

Hope it's clear, if not PM me as I'm not following this thread.

that was what I mean in my previous post (maybe it was not clear), but I just think about a problem : even if the ROM image is prepared with new tags, what about unsigned code with HTC 3.x bootloader ?

pof

what about unsigned code with HTC 3.x bootloader ?

that needs to be patched, and can be loaded either with SSPL (passing it as a parameter) or with splxploit. Ask Olipro if he can do the patch for you :)

Could someone who now has a P3600i please confirm (or contrafirm) the following:

1) is the mini-SD slot useable with SDHC cards please ? This is a critical question for me. PDAdb.net claim so, but the retail sites don't mention it

2) which GPS chipset is used please ?

For me, these are critical questions.

I can see from this thread so far that upgrading with cooked ROM's will be possible, but the SDHC/GPS chipset questions are not yet spelt out

The Qualcomm one, since it's got the same hardware as the P3600.
It doesn't have SDHC either.

WM6 is compatible with SDHC , personally I use Trascend mini SDHC 4GB and work fine on my P3600 So I think P3600i is usable with SDHC like all devices wm6 powered.

Thank you for your reply.

I have an email from an Australian distributor selling the P3600i now (ie. in stock) who says it does handle 4Gb and 8 Gb mini-SDHC cards.

Have you tried this, please ?

There is an awful lot of snake-oil about this SDHC issue and I really can't figure out WHY !!

Addendum/postscript:

HTC Sydney have absolutely confirmed to me this afternoon that the P3600i is indeed SDHC-compliant.

When I asked why this spec was not on the websheet, I was told: "We do have a full specifications sheet, but we can't release it yet" !!! So you can pay AUD$1000 and not be told what's in it ... truly amazing marketing !!!

But the upshot is that the P3600i IS SDHC-compliant - ie. 4Gb/8Gb mini-SD cards will work properly and reliably.

So I've bought one -has everything I want (QVGA is not an issue for me). Now I have to haunt xda-developers to understand all the jargon and bits and pieces. Hope I find clear expositions someplace here.

The P3600i is SDHC compliant but the drivers for SDHC are missing for some reason. Anyone have the drivers for SDHC? I tried to get my Sandisk SDHC to work on the unit but it doesn't accept it. It recognizes the card in the slot but the software won't mount the drive.

Where can I get an 8GB mini SDHC card? I've searched high, I've gone low, but all I can find a 8GB is the full sized SDHC NOT the Mini SDHC.

Please help if you can.

Here is a full email from the Sydney retailer on exactly this point:

"At this stage we have stocked the Veritech 4GB Mini SD card which i have tested in the p3600i and it does work, but the card don't read properly when i put into a Vista machine.

As we have not received any stock of the Sandisk 4GB and 8GB cards I can't confirm they actually work until i can physically put it in the unit. We are expecting our first shipments early in October at this stage."

This says that the SDHC firmware is indeed in the P3600i units this retailer is selling. HTC Sydney confirmed this exact point.

I use a SanDisk ImageMate 5 in 1 card reader on the PC. This seems to handle the formatting 4Gb SDHC cards need.

I'm new to HTC products, although I have used both HP and ETEN devices for some years.

So, dumb question but not commented in any post I've found on search:

will ROM upgrades for the P3600i (and I know there are many confusing steps to this) work off Win2k, or must it be XP?

Is there a thread on ROM upgrade from mini-SD card please?

AFAIK it is _exactly_ the same ROM as the P3600. No differences at all.

For SDHC you need WM6 AKU 0.2 or later and a SD host driver with SDHC support. You have this on both, P3600 and P3600i.

whtrbt7
5th September 2007, 03:32 PM
I tried my 4GB Sandisk SDHC card which works with my WM6 HTC TyTn. The P3600i however doesn't work with the card. Unless you've tried to insert your own SDHC inside of the unit, I wouldn't make any claims. Lots of retailers claim many things because it's more marketable. It's not to say that the retailer doesn't have an SDHC capable P3600i but I would say that my SDHC doesn't work with the unit which is a OEM flash.

Both a Kingston and a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card work in the P3600i using obviously "stock" WM6 ANZ (same as P3600/D810 official rom)

Havent been able to update the P3600i at all, simply can't get over the bootloader issue. Would love it if someone could update maybe HardSPL to accomodate the P3600i... :(

Absolutly love the extra storage though, I've installed TomTom direct to the device and all the programs and still have space left, so TomTom now fly's with loading, browsing etc.

Thank you for your answer.

Not entirely true, however. There is a CAB file - true name HTC SDHC - which actually installs OK on an ETEN X500 running WM5 and allows the use of SDHC micro-SD cards. Tested at 4Gb so far and works !!

With WM5, you do lose the ability to read/write FAT16 (ie. 2Gb) cards, but definitely gain SDHC capacity ... tested and true today.

So at last I have SDHC capability on both my devices. HALLELUJAH !!!!

P3600i works with SDHC with the SDHC mod located in the forums. The hardware is capable but the stock software I had on the P3600i prevented SDHC access. There is no AGPS application on my unit however. I won't be able to try the GPS on the unit until I get back to the USA since that's where I have maps for. Other than that, the unit performs better than my preprod Kaiser which is a pleasant surprise. Anyone get the AX3L rom to work on this yet? I can't seem to get the bootloader to recognize the update and update the device.
