How to create Shortcuts?

I'm just wondering how to create some Shortcuts to go in the same place as the Battery and Comm Manager on the Today screen.
Any suggestions?

I use PHM Traylaunch to put shortcuts in the tray. I used HTweakC 2.0 to remove the battery and commmanager icons, first. Then I added the commmanager one back manually with phm traylaunch. This way when the device starts up after a soft reset the icon is right where I want it instead of wherever windows mobile decided to put it that particular time (varying times/orders of things booting caused inconsistent icon placement before doing this.)
