Oh, i thought thought that only worked on wm5, i still have it sitting in my sd card too :P i keep all my cabs backed up on there (what else is 2gb for? lol)

It doesn't work on Kozhura's ROM. Chamine has his own slightly modified version of WM6 on his hx4700 - thats why he managed it to work. In his next post he has confirmed it is not working on Kozhura's. Sorry guys :) But it is good sign - may be in the next version it will be fixed.

I've been reading these threads for a while but only just registered. Thanks for your immeasurable effort on these ROMs and for breathing new life into a superb PDA that HP has seemingly abandoned.

I'll be sending you a donation shortly to go some way to showing some gratitude.

I'm still running the WM5 AKU 3.5.2 ROM myself (with an 8MB p-pool) but hope to try WM6 this weekend.

Do you or does anyone else know if this SDHC cab http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49684&d=1189177648 will work with your wm5/6 ROMs on the 4700?

The most important bug is Exchange - Activesync.
Also the certificates that cannot be installed.

Problem with certificates should be fixed. Not sure about connection to Exchange server - I haven't installed the rom yet.

Just attempting to flash the unit now (on another machine), My battery was dead, so I let it charge for an hour. The server I will test it on tonight has a Self-SSL, and I will install the cert from the server then see how it works(if that goes good, then all should be good for all).

The server is a Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 (on all current updates). No 64bit CPU server here, so no go for exchange 2007. Wish M$ made it in a 32 bit version.

When I know, I will post back....

This is tested and confirmed by Me, inc. With the newest build, Exchange Active sync works perfect again. I was able to sync with a Exchange 2003 server over Wi-fi. No errors or issues, also as in a prev. post, with a self-ssl cert. It should work fine for everyone now.

One issue, I would like fixed for a next build if possable. The "flight mode" option to turn on/off wi-fi, still does not work. Please fix this one, as it makes turning off/on wi-fi very easy.

I don't have wpa wifi so I cannot test it. Can you ?

I have tested this, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing it worked.
I got connected using "Work" and that did not allow me to browse, so I changed back to "Internet" and I am able to browse.
Slightly different so here goes:

Wifi ON
Go into settings. Now you are in the "Configure Wireless Networks" screen. Try to connect - unable. The legend alongside your router says Unavailable.
Hold stylus on entry and choose Remove Settings
Add new... and put in settings as if you are going to connect to internet.
Unable to connect.
Wifi OFF
Edit connection - change to Work.
No choice now of WPA-PSK, but just select Open and click next anyway.
Wifi is turned on automatically when you click connect. It is rejected, but shows hte network as Available.
Edit connection again. The edit screen now has a choice of WPA-PSK so select it.
Click Connect. It does so!"
CANNOT BROWSE INTERNET, so..
While still connected, edit the settings back to Internet.
For me this allowed me to use both IE and Opera to browse the internet and to download a file.:D

The largest number is the newest, so at present that's Windows Mobile 6 .0.7.0 Release 1(included FIXes)

The image looks nice, but WPA-PSK, even using the odyssey client, does not seem to work reliably. Even if Odyssey reported working wifi, I coul not connect to the network.

Speed of the image is great, no problems so far with installing any applications.

WiFi WPA doesn't work unless Odyssey Client is installed and then only after WiFi is cycled On/Off/On. Also the version of Odyssey Client I am using is trialware (going to expire in 30 days). The rom is very close to being complete. I have (on 1 occasion) had WiFi WPA working without Odyssey Client installed but not anymore - don't know why.

I don't much about these things but sktools has a benchmarking module included with it and I thought I'd give it a try. In each test case below the only programs installed were sktools, tweaks2k2, and resco explorer. All were installed to device rom. There were no flash cards in the machine. No today panels were running. Navpoint and touchpad were disabled (tweaks2k2) and sktools optimization module changes were set to performance, which includes the following: animate menu disabled, font cache size 32768, tcp window size 98394, default ttl 128, ip multicasting 0, file system cache 2048, read-only for activesync log, input methods reduce to 1 (keyboard)
Also in each case no today panels were running and the fake server hack had been applied.


Benchmark Test Results:

The benchmark module also has a comparison chart with other popular models listed with different OS. The hx4700 with WM2003SE is listed here and interestingly has a speed rating (estimated) of 9434 under the RAM access test, and with WM5 (HP?) it rates a 2102.

In that my ROM i've used Wifi driver from HTC universal, yes - for that my chinese ROM it did that trick, but with this driver Wifi complitely can't search for access points, only a way - to create connection manually if you know essid and so on... (what is hard if you are in a public place and don't know them)
So - this is not a success...

It is incompatible only with that particular driver so there is hope it will be implemented in a future. But you can find some "non-standard" SD cards on a market up to 8 gb which will work with hx4700.

Good idea but they do not sell to everybody.... so I will quit from Odyssey. I tried the 30 days license but it does not allow to connect to anyone...

Paying for a software that realy deserve that its the best idea to support the programmers but I beleive in trials first before doing a purchace. Oddysey did allowed me to do the trial so I quited from that.

I upgraded my 4700 to the newest rom, installed the certificate (just clicked on it and it asked me if I wanted to install it). Then I setup sync with the exchange server, connected via wi-fi then clicked sync, and it downloaded my mail, contacts etc.

Has anyone gotten a different splash screen start appearing? It reads WM5 and has colored square outlines. When I first installed the ROM I had the normal green with the circle\spiral but now for no apparent reason I started getting this. Weird, but all still works fine.

Here's another benchmark if anyone is interested. This is WM6 w/ all sktools tweaks, ozvga set to VGA, happytapping keyboard input, and lots of software installed mostly to a card.

After reading thru all of messages seems to me that Kozhura is making pretty good job here. Altought I still think that as long as that release wont work with wpa it's impossible me to use it :( Looks a lot like other problems are almost solved.

Could some one please confirm these :

ROM can't make connections to WPA network ?
Utilities like wififofum not working right 'cause of those connection problems?

Oh...There is many free Registry editor for Windows Mobile (Pocket PC).
You can try PHM Registry Editor, it is free.
All Editor works similar to the one on Desktop PC, so it should be easier for newbee.

I have just flashed kozhuras WM6 .0.7.0 Release 1(included FIXes) and all my software that ran under WM5 runs on new version unlike Beta R1. Have used the alarm & word completion patches and everything works that I require so far. Great work kozhuras.

I'm running Tomtom 6.30 fine; so it's probably not a ROM issue, try a clean reinstall?

I am running TomTom V6.03 on WM6 with no problems. Sounds like your maps are corrupt. Try to load your maps again and re-register your map.

Well I can confirm tomtom runs under wm6. I use it with the chinese release of wm6 by Chamine. have a look at pxdxa. you can surely find a configuration that works.

never had problems with touchpad with wm5 or wm6
wifi works smooth too never tried the WPA

I am trying to run this update through windows vista, i trie dusing bootloader, the bootloader appears to freeze when updating, at the end, no update. so i tried using a mthod explained in an earlier thread, suing hpruu.exe and renaming the nbf file to CEOS_UPD.nbf looked good.......until finished then the pda just shows ther hp screen and does nothing else. I tried another method, but bootloader stated no card found, I am assuming it was looking for an sd card, my ipaq has only a cf card. I really want to get this working, as currently wm5 is sluggish. I have read through a lot of the 63 pages of this thread, but its somewhat confusing as nothing seams to fit this problem. any help greatly appreciated

after that you should of hard reset the device by pressing the contacts button and the messenging button (the top two buttons on the button pad) while pressing the reset button with your stylus. you'll be given an option if you want to hard reset, confirm by pressing the calendar button. it will clear and reset itself.

I experienced the same problem exactly. I was able to revert to the WM5 aku 3.5.2 ROM using the same bootloader process as I was when I attempted to flash the WM6 Release 1 ROM.

Oh, and are you running Vista 32 or 64-bit? If 64, you have to reboot first, hit F8 as it boots, and select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" before running the bootloader (otherwise it will not correctly install the USB drivers). No need for that extra step on Vista 32-bit.

Hello everyone! just started reading here a week ago. I've flashed to WM6. Much faster than Wm5. All the application I use & installed are working, :) just 1 little thing... :( in SPB pocket plus (3.0.4) the icon to open the backlight settings doesn't open, though i can adjust the setting for battery powered backlight with the icon, is this a one-off or do others have this?
I've just done the 'word completion' fix via resco regedit (v5.41). it's the first time I have every edited the register, phew!
All the application I have work okay I use wordlogic (v4.1)for keyboard but the numbers panel is a little screwed up, e-mailed manufacturer of wordlogic ½hour ago. I assume Kozhura accepts Paypal 'donations' ?

Another quirk I've noticed with alarms after applying the alarms patch...
If I change the time of an alarm, somehow I continue to get an alarm sounding at the old time - as well as at the new one. The remedy for this seems to be to rebuild the notification database after changing alarm times. I use MemMaid to do this.

Has anyone else seen this?

Anyone know of a way for WM6 screen toggle on function to return to the same screen as when the screen is turned off? I see that this is a WM6 "feature" that is a problem when using music players. If I turn the screen off to save battery, when I turn it back on, it returns to the desktop instead of the player.

Check your Settings > Personal > Today > Items Today timeout checkmark and timeout setting.

Clear the Today timeout checkmark to prevent WM6 from going to the Today screen after the timeout value.

haha i turned my device on this morning since last night i left it on windows media player. the today timeout was checked at set at 4 hours. but it didn't even go back to the today screen when i turned it on.

Thank you. That worked! The problems seems to be related to security. If you have an lock password set, the screen returns to Today. Without the lock, it works fine.

I am still on the earlier WM6 release

I find I can't save new notes unless I opt to save them to Main Memory--if set to save to SD or CF, it will not save, or even close when hitting the OK button. The only way out is to delete the note, go to Options, and change save location to Main Memory.

Running the latest kozhura WM6 ROM.

Also having a lot of problems with alarms--tried the alarm patch, also the Tweaks2k2 solution, but alarms are either not going off or acting very strangely in this ROM.

Sorry, can't help with the notes issue, but yes alarms are quirky. I installed the alarms patch and got them to work, however when I change an alarm, it sounds at the old time AND the new one. Rebuilding the notifications database seems to work sometimes, but the problem reappears with every change. I haven't tried the Tweaks2K2 option, but another one might be to try an alarms manager like alarmstoday.

i did not instal windows messenger i am using IM+ ver 4.41 and it is working fine with me.
The last time i used WM i couldn't change where the email would be saved.

I did all of the above ... reinstalled Wm6 (again).. copied .cer file to the ppc .. but still get the error ... "The certificate was not successfully added. Please restart the device and try again.." ... nope ... don't work either after the restart ...

You mentioned CertInstaller from the ppc windows directory ... ???
How do I go about doing this ??? Tapping on the file when in File Explorer does not work ...

I just tried about 4 times to download WM6_4700_0_7_0_FIXED. It inidicates that the file is 35.1MB but the download always quits at 14.2MB. The Bootloader says that it is corrupt.

Is anyone else having this problem. Is the file mirrored anywhere?

I can not see any battery drain in WM6 0.7.0 . After 20 hours it has been going down 1% on my HX4700, and this may be why the backlight was on when I was looking for the exact battery status

Open registry editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\preload
Click on (default). Change String value to e0010409. Repeat it with location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\preload\1

After that POWER OFF device, then POWER ON - after that RESET device. (Registry need to be flushed before reset).

Hmmm... I'm thinking about the same, changing the touchpad. But used spareparts from ebay is a too high risk (for me). Who can say, if it really works or not!
To do a hard reset has nothing to do with the hardware itself, you only start the device from the point zero. So if it works some times, then observe, if it is a special key or any other region of the touchpad what creates the trouble.

In my case the touchpad is 100% NOT working, since I started flashing the device. So I think, there is a charge of 4700th with a different version of the touchpad, wich need a modified driver or so.(I know, HP has changed the hardware issues often at the HX4700) I was flashing back to standard 2003SE, but the tp would not work.But I'm absolutely sure, before flashing it was 100% fine!

However, it would be nice, if somebody can help us.

I got WPA-PSK to work, ONCE only, as posted above. I have tried many times more over several days, with resets in between. No success at all.

Worse, I cannot link to my phone with bluetooth. I used to transfer photos and music. Now I cannot. It appears to link but when I try to bluetooth a file, I just get a waiting to connect message that stays forever. Well, at least 30 minutes. The only way out was a reset.

I'm going to go back to WM2003SE, as two of the things I actually use do not work.

WPA now works just like in WM5 AKU 3.5.2.
A2DP has been fixed.


What still needs work:

Flight mode for WiFi still doesn't work.


Performance enhancement:

The NavPointService entry has been removed from the registry... about 2% CPU reduction.


I would like to see the TodayPanel Light placed back in the ROM as well as Transcriber. Maybe it is also possible to set the NavPointService startup type to manual and stopped to prevent it from starting instead of deleting the registry entry (in case somebody actually wants to use it). Other than that I haven't had any problems with this ROM. It appears to combine all the fixes for the previous ROM.

Your PDA is bricked! Use Chrismrulz's bootloader tool to unbrick it. It is by far the simplest method to load ROMs on the 4700. http://www.freetrafficsite.com/BootLoader.exe

Just run the bootloader program provided by chrismrulz. Go to http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=246529 for more information. Make sure you install the bootloader program into the root of your hard drive (like c:\bootloader). And also place the WM6 Rom (or any valid hx4700 rom for that matter) in the same directory as the bootloader. I am using an older version of the bootloader program so maybe this all isn't necessary but it couldn't hurt. This is how I load all of my ROM's, and it has never failed. Just remember after the device has been flashed you have to hard reset the device twice to get it working.

Seems thats the same ROM which was posted already in the first post, but not the updated one a few hours later.
Beside, iFolder allows only Russian Users now and slil has a terrible low speed.

I am in Canada and downloading without any problem from iFolder (speed is terrible though). If you don't know russian just use mouseover after countdown timer to figure out the link. Here is another mirror from 4PDA post - http://www.rapidshare.ru/415867 with a better speed

Excellent ROM, i hope you all donate.
The only issue i have come across is that I can't get video in wmp to play full screen in landscape. I sync recorded TV to my ipaq and can only play full screen in portrait.

Also the download link in the first posting was changed.
Does it mean, the Release 2 was fixed or is still the same file, and this was only a comment.
I am a little bit confused. Maybe kozhura can share some light.

Ihave my alarm set to repeat but it only repeats on an very irregular basis.
The first repeat is after 10 sec. the second after 15 sec. the 3rd after 30 sec. :confused:
Is this a bug in the rom. :eek:
I'am using 0.7.0. FIX2 :)

Well I downloaded the latest version... a timestamp difference and a file comparison shows that he did make some kind of change. I am currently running the original 0.7.0 FIX2 rom without any problems.

I joined this forum after reading about the ROM update.
I tried it but went back to 2003SE again as initially I did not see major differences (I use my HX4700 mainly to read e-books, webserving and watch video). Nevertheless a big thank you to everyone who helps to prolong the life cycle of this wonderful handheld, especially Kozhura.

When going back to 2003SE, it did become obvious that memory management is better in WM5/6 so I will give it another try.
I see that the WM6 update is still work in progress and another update just released. I was wondering the non-functioning IPAQ equalizer has been fixed.
One other thing I noticed after the initial upgrade was that Astraware games refused to install, not even the latests evaluation copies from their website. Any suggestions as to how this can be resolved?

WM6 requires ActiveSync 4.5 in order to sync with your computer. If your version is less than 4.5 then you have to upgrade ActiveSync. If this isn't your problem then maybe your ActiveSync partnership is corrupt.

No problem syncing on my computer.

Yes I am able to connect to my home network using WPA-TKIP. Occassionally the WIFI indicator will turn on and off once when initially connecting to the network.

Yes, I flashed my iPAQ with the latest release of the ROM and I can confirm that WPA TKIP works... I also experienced that the WIFI Indicator turns on, off and then On again after enabling WIFI. But that doesnt stop the iPAQ to connect to my Router.
Maybe you have to delete your old WIFI settings on the iPAQ and let the iPAQ redetect and reconnect to your WLAN. Also get sure, that you use "Work" for connceting to your WLAN (not "Internet").

hi, does anyone know what rapiclnt is used for. When i have docked the HX4700 with the pc via activesync, this application appears to be taking 85% of processing time and device is warm.

Yes, it is the Broadcom (formal Widcomm) Stack :) Bluetooth works just fine with this ROM :)

Thanks for the new ROM kozhura, it's great! One question, is it possible to change the WIFI icon back to what it was in the previous WM5 rom? I don't like the new icon that you have used now. Also, it doesn't look good on the today screen when you turn wifi on because it changes to a completely different icon.
