Hi all,
I came across this read. It looks like this driver does the trick. Only problem is it's not available to the public. I emailed them about purchasing the driver but they only deal with oem providers. Just in case someone out there has connections.;)
"BSQUARE released the SDIO Hx v1.1, a software stack for Windows Mobile and Windows CE devices. This new version of SDIO Hx supports the new Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) standard memory cards up to 32 GB."
Check it out at www.bsquare.com

Yes, I flashed my iPAQ with the latest release of the ROM and I can confirm that WPA TKIP works... I also experienced that the WIFI Indicator turns on, off and then On again after enabling WIFI. But that doesnt stop the iPAQ to connect to my Router.
Maybe you have to delete your old WIFI settings on the iPAQ and let the iPAQ redetect and reconnect to your WLAN. Also get sure, that you use "Work" for connceting to your WLAN (not "Internet").
Could it be that I selected "Internet" instead of "Work" the reason why it didn't connect?

Yes, it is the Broadcom (formal Widcomm) Stack :) Bluetooth works just fine with this ROM :)
Unfortunately, ActiveSync over BT is NOT working.
When going to ActiveSyn, then Menu/Connect via Bluetooth, a dialog pops up, there is noch BT partnership. "Yes" and on the Device Tab/Add new Device brings the error:
"Problem with Bluetooth hardware".
Also, trying to establish an BT-Activesync connection using the bluetooth manager mangers fails. The service is discovered correctly, but the connection times out ...

But, It is likely that it does not works as well as that we expect. When my device surfs internet, it is unresponsible more frequent even IE gets out of control, especially when other appls run concomitantly, forexample playing music.:(
It is very clearly Mr Kozhura have made our PDAs be more atractive again:rolleyes: , be fashionable:D and stay uptodate. So, in my opinion, the best choice for useful is 2003SE, for special tasks or newly created appls, just thank Kozhura's great work.:D

I am able to sync without problems using BT. You can try to remove the partnership and recreate it. As well, remove any old partnerships in activesync on your PC. I needed to recreate all from start but can confirm that it works just fine!!

do you have authentication and encryption enabled in your bluetooth active sync connection?
I managed to get it working w/o authentication and encryption, but am not 100% satisfied with this solution.

For my purposes, I do not need authentication or encryption for BT so have never used them. So I have not tried this option. Will try it however and let you know what happens.

Ok, just finished changing the BT settings to use authentication and encryption for activesync. Connects and works fine. Here's what I did:
1. On PC, no changes
2. On 4700, selected both authentication and encryption
3. Reset 4700

ActiveSync is working fine on both xp and vista here without issue, both secure and unsecure.
Please don't restore from a previous backup (even from the same core), try a clean reset and try BT again and I'm sure you will find it works just fine. This will also solve the wifi on-off issue when you first turn it on.

Not sure about an official kitchen, but I've successfully used maimach's tools (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249836 )to remove some JPG and TSK files and to add some sounds to this ROM. That's about it though. I don't know how to add packages with these tools. But, I don't want to tempt fate by messing too much with Kozhura's excellent work either though, and there's not much that I would change anyway!
Now if there was a way to figure out SDHC support...:)

Not sure, but I think this is valid but I think it works:
If you browse to the secure site (your https://webmail) site, double click on the lock on the bottom status bar of IE. A certificate window will open, on the details tab there is a button for "Copy to File...) select DER encoded binary x.509 (.cer).
Then copy this file to your ppc, then run CertInstaller from your ppc windows directory.
Good Luck
KS
I tried this but I don't see the lock in IE. It does say that there's something with a certificate. It's my mail server. I have downloaded the certificate before with certificate webpage from my CA. But now I also get the message that it's not loaded and I need to reboot.
Now I can't synchronize after WPA-PSK works :(

So I flashed my device and all works fine. Seemingly at least. Had a weird case where the "Buttons" applet didn't work, did a clean reset, now it works. Strange.
However, I find that the device is rather sluggish compared to my 2003SE unit.
For example, when I go to enter text through the SIP keyboard, it seems to need to catch up at first, and then it seems O.K.
When I drop the menu on the home screen, it takes a moment to drop, however when I click it next time, it seems fine.
It's like the system is buffering a bunch.
Oh, and NO software installed, yet...

Finally managed to download the 'second' (as I will call it) version 2 update that Kozhura has prepared.
I'm not sure what differences amount to but the file sizes of the image are different as well as the time stamp - so something changed :)

Hmmmm, I can assure you that I can sync my iPAQ over BT ActiveSync...
Well, I'm connecting to Bluetooth Activesync over the Bluetooth Manager on my iPAQ. Did you check out the COM Port Settings of your PDA? They should match with the settings on ActiveSync on the PC... What you also can do is turning off your firewall on the pc (if youre using one) and try again. Sometimes the firewall can stop ActiveSync from connecting.

In your home LAN, you should use the "Work" settings... If youre connecting to the internet with a phone provider, you should use the "Internet" settings... That's the way, I understood it... Did you try already to connect over "Work" settings?

Good luck. A tip...Make sure you don't have any spaces in the tools directory name (I used c:\kitchen). Also, here's what I did after I put Kozhura's .NBF into the same directory.
In a Command Prompt box...
1. RAN prepare_imgfs <.nbf file name here>. This creates two files - imgfs_raw_data.bin and imgfs_removed_data.bin <--ignore this last one.
2. RAN viewimgfs imgfs_raw_data.bin. This runs a while and will create the DUMP subfolder.
3. EDITED the DUMP folder to remove the flower.jpg and waterfall.jpg files - because I'm tired of the pictures;) ; convert some WMA files to WAV - because I wanted them for alarms:) , and remove the HP_GLOBE.TSK file - because I'm still mad at HP for selling me a crappy WM5 ROM:mad: . I have not figured out how to use DELFILE and ADDFILE, so I just did direct edits within the DUMP folder.
4. RAN buildimgfs.
5. RAN make_imgfs <same file name as in step 1 here>
6. Used Chrismrulz's bootloader to upload the ROM.
Kozhura has done a marvelous job with this ROM. It is clean and fast. I love the flexibility of simply adding apps that I need without having others take up space. That's why I haven't looked hard for a way to add packages to this. This is as good as it gets - until SDHC is real.
Good luck with your tweaks.

With this WM6 ROM, is it still best to place as many programs and data files and documents on an SD or CF card as opposed to the built in memory? I've been using the original out-of-box ROM all this time and understand that there is no longer a "file store". From reading this entire thread and previous WM5 ones, I was under the impression that even though there will be a single memory storage with WM5(&6) I was to try to keep as much of this free and put everything on external media whenever possible.
Still true for this ROM?

Yes the behavior of the compaction thread in WM6 is still the same in WM5,so its still preferred to install all your apps in your external memory as possible. Yet even in this setup, filesys is still kicking in and consuming CPU usage even when the PDA is idle albeit not that persistent unlike under WM5.

My many apps so far check out OK ... a fantastic upgrade .. kudos to the authors.
However, I have some problems with BT. I have both Motorola HT820 and S805. The latter registers as "High Quality Audio" and ran flawlessly under the HP release of WM5(my music files are AVI HiQ. Under WM6 it wont connect as HQA; however as "Headset" it connects, but sounds terrible .. snapps, pops and skips .. not what Mozart intended. Plugged via cable is OK .. so points to BT again.
Anybody w experience w these headsets? Any workaround? Or is the BT stack still not finalized.
My other BT devices work OK .. Motorola HT820 Headset (OK for phone voice, but sounds lousy for music, same as for S805); ThinkOutside Mouse, also Keyboard; DeLorme Earthmate Blue Logger (GPS receiver).

PS: This thread and one by 'Vivi' has given a lease on my hx4705 .. many thanks to all who contributed!!!

After install the latest 6.0.7.0 Release 2 ROM,
My Internet Explorer refresh becomes much slower, very slow when I scroll.
Especially when display a lot of text (chinese) with figures.
I've try to increase the font cache size by Memmaid but it doesn't help too much.
A Chinese text display plug-in is being install for chinese character display, and clear-type is turn on.
This won't happen on the 1st WM6 ROM release by kozhura. And I haven't test the others version in between.
Anyone experience similar problem and have a solution ?
By the way, thank you very much for the effort of kozhura...:)

I've found that forum via another forum and just upgraded my 4700 with the latest release, ossum to have WM6 on my 4700.
Now one of the very nice features is the Today panel which shows battery in %, memory usage, file usage and has a slider for brightness on the original 4700 WM2003 this is also on WM6 on the new IPAQ 214. I just wonder if that is a special HP feature, as I can not select it anymore on the R2?
Many thanks for helping a newbie on this great forum!

Unfortunately, the OEM version of today panel was not included in this as it was not working, fortunately the retail version works http://rhinocode.com/page2.html, unfortunately you have to throw $5.95 for the PRO version (which has task manager, process viewer and third icon size-tiny) .

Open registry editor, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\preload
Click on (default). Change String value to e0010409. Repeat it with location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\preload\1
After that POWER OFF device, then POWER ON - after that RESET device. (Registry need to be flushed before reset).
DONE!

Yes I tried that with an earlier WM5 version of a ROM from PDAVIET, but could not get it to work. With the Kozhura ROM though, there's not much I wanted to change so it was easy just to directly edit the DUMP folder. If you can figure out how to edit initflashfiles.dat to organize folders and add/remove packages, please let me know what you did.

I meant the OEM the one which came from the rom itself since kozhura had problems making it work as part of the ROM (OEM) since kozhura in his post in the russian forums has mentioned its inability to run as a built-in plugin, but installing it as a third party software be it light or pro works works perfectly. But the PRO one is recommended, as it has more fuctions than the light one. :o

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by colored bars. These are the same files that were included with the WM5 AKU 3.5.2 for the 4700. This installation can be removed by the Remove Programs applet if it isn't what your looking for. Give it a try to see if it is what you want.

I can only turn on if i remove the SD-Card and plug-in again.
If I recall it correctly, then this problem was already mentioned before, but I don't find the solution anymore.
Beside, everything else works fine.

Thanks a lot for the very fast response on my Today panel. Now I've found another interesting thing which I can not explain and would appreciate your enlightment here.
Before I could on my hx4700 in ActiveSync find the possibility to backup/restore my PDA, with the new flashed rom that option is not even visible in my AS which took me by surprise!
Is that a feature of WM6??
Thanks a lot

i tried this upgrade... and it didn't turn out well.
my unit now cannot turn on, nor connect to active sync. i can't even see the bootloader HP logo (SErial/USB screen). i plugged in a charger and there is no charging light, can any one help?
Have you looked at switch by the battery eject?
I have to have mine in the "locked" position for the WM6 to work.
If I have it in the "Un-Locked" position then I get the same symptoms as you.
Scarred the hell out of me I can tell you..........

I've been using the latest ROM 0.7.0 fixes 2 now since it was first posted. When used in anger today however, I must say that I am more than a little concerned about the latency between touching the screen - and something happening. Typing works with the keyboard, I often had to wait 2-3 seconds before anything appears and then all the letters appeared at once. Anyone esle notice the latency issue or know of something I need to check/change/modify to correct it? Thanks

See this thread about the paging pool size on a hx4700. Lots of comparisons and benchmarking.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331949&highlight=hx4700+paging+pool
lol i know about that thread. although the benchmarking was useful, in heavy multitasking a bigger pagepool size would be better. notice how in those applications, he just tests out application speed but not multiple application accesses. and the version of wm6 he was using was old (the first release, buggy and slow) and is not using the latest wm6 ROM.

I find this happens to me too.
I think its compaction.
Not sure, not very familiar.
Seems like it goes away either with a reset, or just by leaving it on for a couple minutes without interaction.

Yeap, it is indeed the compaction thread. To minimize the problem, be sure to store applications and docs in the cards and NOT in main memory.

I have some maybe unusual questions.
I have bought CF Apacer 100x 512mb card (brand doesn't matter really), eventhough i have 2gb SD card. Is it possible to somehow on software level expand it's ram (use CF as virtual ram - something like Vista does with usb stick / turbo ram booster).
I would use CF only as ram. Has anybody got an idea how to do this?

Microsoft removed the Backup facility from Activesync and you must rely on software on the 4700 to perform a backup. There used to be a backup app on the 4700, but it has been removed because it no longer works. It was based on Sprite Backup (not freeware). I use SPB Backup (also not freeware).

I've had the same problem, but it started in 2003 se and it persists in this ROM, and it seems to relate to the fact that I've loaded most programs to the SD card. It will be really slow at the begining and after a while seems to work at full speed. Also, the icons in the drop down menu are gone or out of sync with the software after a reset and the correct icons can only be seen again for the items loaded on the SD card if I go in and check and uncheck any item in the menu dialog under system settings. Once this change has been made all my latency problems seem to go away unless I am multitasking multiple GIS/GPS programs.
Let me know if this is similar to your problem.

Oh... wouldn't that be nice. To be able to add memory by just inserting a memory card. Unfortunately, ram memory and flash memory aren't the same. To start with, ram memory is much faster (and consumes more power) than flash memory. As far as using flash memory as virtual ram like Vista Readyboost - that is already happening with WM5 and WM6. This virtual ram on the Pocket PC is (in a nutshell) like the Persistent Storage mechanism that is used for memory management. This is also part of the reason why you see complaints about random sluggishness on NOR flash devices like the hx4700 when they are running WM5 or WM6 (file compaction). 2003SE didn't have this type of memory management, and you would always have to be mindful about managing your memory to avoid out of memory problems.
It would be nice if manufacturers provided a slot dedicated for memory expansion (like underneath the battery). One can only wish.
So I guess the answer to your question is no... sorry.

Until this ROM i had issues with WPA-PSK, my extended battery was of no use, infact it worked worse than the original, the battery drained even when switched off.
This latest ROM has fixed all of this.

Is there anyone who knows what 'Download agent' is good gor?
I would like to remove it and BT Phone manager and HP Image zone (i find Pictures & Videos much nicer app - or are they depended one to another?).
That way ROM would be lighter and liter, more storage and page pool to 6 or 8mb ... even aster hx4700 :D

Actually, I take back my last statement about the Backup/Restore being removed from ActiveSync. It's still there, but only if your using WM 2003SE. As far as I can tell WM5 and WM6 devices don't get to use the Backup/Restore functionality in ActiveSync. Here is a link with more information - http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=379987. I can't recall if WM5 required ActiveSync 4.0, but I do know that WM6 requires ActiveSync 4.5 and as far as I can tell since ActiveSync 4.0 the only devices that could use the Backup/Restore feature are WM 2003SE devices. For a while there was no way to perform a full backup. All WM5 and WM6 users must rely on third party solutions to create a full backup.

No problem with the power button here. Perhaps the button is stuck or non functional. Unfortunately the Self Test program on the hx4700 doesn't test the power button, or the reset button. If the power button is stuck down, then you would have had a problem with the backlight being turned off at some point which would have required you to manually go into the backlight settings and raise the brightness level up from being off. I would try a hard reset and see if that helps. If all else fails - go back to how it was working before. Confirm that it works, and then try the new rom again. Hope you're able to get it working.

I finaly managed to flash the "fix2" version of the ROM. I made 2 hard reset after that (i read it here that is essential to do this) and started installing the programs that i was using in the WM5 rom version that i had.
I had installed 5-6 programs and when i did a reset, the iPaq stuck at the first screen, in the time that it tries to load the today plug-ins. It had succesfully loaded the first two but it then stuck and i had to perform a hard reset to get it back.
This happened 3 times (tired of reinstalling programs all night...) and i suspect that it has something to do with software that install itself as Today Plug-ins...
Is it a "known issue" with this particular ROM and the Today Plug-ins ??
Or, is there a way to actually boot the iPaq WITHOUT loading the plug-ins so that i can easily "spot" the program that cause the behavior ??
(just imagine to install 10-15 programs and be forced to this all over again, for 4rth time...)
thanks for any help!

I think the thing is that this particular build 0.7.0 fixes 2 seems to be worse than any of the previous 0.7.0 builds. The latency varies depending on when you last did a soft reset it appears, and is never consistant. I have one only application installed on the device itself - the rest are on a variety of SD cards. As I use the PDA for flight navigation principly, I cannot afford to be focused on soft resetting the device every few minutes/hours etc while in flight.
While this ROM, when working is fantastic, does anyone notice the latency or have any suggestions as to how to improve pefomance? Thanks

Sorry if this has already been posted.
I've found that tweaking the filesys TempPath makes a huge difference to performance as long as you have a fast storage card.
It may be a fluke, but my 4700 seems loads faster now.
What to do...
create a folder (I used "\SD Card\Application Data\Volatile" because the default is "\Application Data\Volatile") on your SD card
Edit the registry - HKLM\System\Filesys - change TempPath value to point to your new folder
Power off PDA
Power on PDA
Perform Soft reset (I use reset.exe - got it from pocketpcfreewares.com)
Whether you use software to do the soft reset or not, the key is that the changes get commited to file. It may be sufficient to power off and on to do this.
Note, I've only tried this today. Up 'til now, my 4700 has been stable - it is definitely a lot snappier. I would guess that it's not a brilliant idea to remove the SD card frequently after making this change - although I have done this once and it didn't crash.

I agree. I use SKTools to move the temp folders as well as the cache/history folders for Pocket Internet Explorer to external flash storage. I install several applications to the internal flash of the device, and the only time I notice compaction problems is when I install a new piece of software into memory or if I move files around. After I have installed all of my applications and let the device stabilize, I don't suffer from compaction problems. Here is a link to the trial version of SKTools (no time limit - just some reduced functionality until registered) http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?m_downloads.html#tools.

Everything works fine, until I install CE-Star, then the power button doesn't work anymore. As soon as I uninstall CE-Star, everything works fine again.
Not sure whether this s an incompatibilty with this ROM or CE-Star causes this problem regardless which device and WM6.

I find problem when I try to "tweak" by some program. i.e. tweake2k2.net or MemMaid etc. when use those to change or modify cache size etc. I got unstable or freeze. even after soft reset. after I move it out. everything working well.
Any comment?
I had the same problem, it disappear after a few soft reset.

On HTC Universal forum someone posted a SDHC.CAB file. They got SDHC to work on HTC. I tried to install it on 4700, no luck (wont install  )

Kohura has already indicated that this one doesn't work. There are a number of SDHC drivers on xda-developers. Unfortunately none of them seem to work on the 4700. I'm looking at the differences between the Universal SDHC drivers and the ones in the Kozhura ROMS but haven't been successful yet. I think we will all need to wait for Kozhura to make SDHC work for us.

It is part of the whole Bootloader package. It is exactly the one which told you Failed to synchronize with the host. Should be in the same dir where you have your HX4700_Bootloader.exe It is called mtty11a.exe.

If you are the same BOB_55 that makes the terrific icons on the SBSH forums, first let me say thank you for them. They truly are works of art. If you are not the same person then, well...never mind.
I know that some have been successful with loading this ROM using Vista, but it's been a problem for me too. I ended up reverting to an XP machine for ROMs. It seems to be much safer and better to use that. Anyway, hope it works for you, but if not you should try under XP.

I'm using windows xp pro. the provieded flashrom tool didnot work for me either.
I use the update program from hp - sp29841.exe
run the program which will unzip itself to a folder in C:\ipaq
rename the downloaded wm6 update file to hx4700_11008_ENG_RC_AKU26.nbf
then paste in the above folder to replace the old one
it works flawlessly. i've already flashed my 4700 twice.
hope this can help u.

I have noted that you have posted the screen grab from Vista but what, if any, error message do you get when using XP...?
I assume that you have an otherwise good working connection via active sync 4.5 between the cradle and XP when the 4700 is plugged in....?
Not that active sync is needed but at least it suggests by working that everything else is ok...?
You could have a look also at what you have running on the PC at the time that you are trying to upgrade the PDA. Try and ensure that all unnecessary applications and AV's etc are not running.

This is curious indeed because Chris's bootloader has worked flawlessly for me for many WM5 and WM6 loads. This may be a long-shot, but something worth checking.
1. Make sure your USB connection is direct to the computer and does not go through a hub. It must be direct, or you will have trouble. I did.
2. Are you sure the bootloader folder is on the root of your drive, WITHOUT any spaces in the name? This also caused me trouble before.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

Hi,
Are there any plans to fix the certificate error?
What I’ve done so far:
Tried the https://server with PIE and Netfront. While Netfront gives you more options with certificates it still doesn’t work.
Downloaded the certificate form the exchange server by exporting it with IIS. That certificate is imported but is installed as a personal instead of a root certificate.
Downloaded the certificate with http://server/certserv. Then I get the same error as before.
So I’m pretty sure that it’s some error in this WM6 version.
I really like everything else but I also really need the certificate to work.
Thank you Kozhura for making it

I had a similar issue and mine was caused by putting the IPAQ into ROM loading mode, but not putting it on the cradle fast enough! When it doesn't go on fast enough, the PC shows the error 'USB device not detected...' I reckon you get about 2 seconds of grace between putting int ROM boot mode and this error event occuring.

How goes the effort to make SDHC work on the HX4700? From previous posts it had been successfully implemented on other hardware with those revised 2006 roms, but some snags were encountered with the hx470x devices. (the upcoming iPaq 200 series is just not looking like that great of an upgrade with the MicroSD, so SDHC is a choice option to hope for) If anyone is busy attacking this puzzle still, a quick "hey I'm busy working on it" would be appreciated.

Just wondering (while we all wait for kozhura success in adding SDHC support for this ROM) does anyone have any experience with the SDHC to CF card adapters. It is available at http://www.sd-to-cf.com/ and also on eBay.
CF capacity is already 16GB while the largest SDHC is only 8GB. So seems to me that one could simply get a 16GB CF card and a 4GB non-HC SD card for a total of 20G!! Alternatively, use the adapter for SDHC within the CF slot.
Wondering if that isn't just good enough for now. Wow 20GB - that's a lot of Beethoven!

Hi all, has anyone else experienced a failure of the hx4700 to start up after turning it off? I find that occassionally when I turn it off after using it, it fails to come on again when I want it to ... any suggestions? The only way around this is to do a soft reset which takes up a whole bunch of time before it is able to work. Using kozhura_release_1. Will upgrade to rel_2 today but I expect the problem will still exist. TIA.

Also I am using the latest release 2 of Kozhura and experience the following things, which are much worse then the release 1 or the Mobile 5 version of Kozhura.
A lot of spontanius reboots just while working with the device.
Very often not willing to switch on, after using the device. Especially while using WIFI and then switching off.
The WPA-PSK is working perfectly by the way, besides the WIFI switching on and off and on again, when activating WIFI.
The certificate issue everyone is having, I solved by exporting the certificate from the server in PFX format. There is a tool PFXimport which puts this one at least as a Root certificate.
After that action I could use Outlook as wanted.
By the Way...my normal .cer file could be imported with no problem on my new HTC Touch.

To be honest I can't remember, but it took the battery out and time to unlock.
I had similar with my XDA Exec and there it took the official O2 ROM to fix it, cooked ones just failed.

DON'T worry, you mostly got the rom flash right, don't be fooled by the messege, in my case , I do as follow:
1. close the bootloader program, take up your 4700,
2. clean reset (by pressing Contact+mailbox+softreset)
3. you should see messege asking wether you want to clear data of you 4700. just press the calender.
4. you should see the clearing data messege.
5. wait for a couple minute.
6. softrest your 4700
7. if didn't get the OS loaded, (wait at lease 1~2 minutes), softrest the second time.
8. mostly you'll get the OS loaded when you do softrest the second time. othewise, do more softrest and wait, just remenber proceed just one softrest and wait for 4700 to load OS. DON'T press softrest too many times in a short period. i
it should work for most of you who got stuck in the HANGED bootloader program or thinking that you got your 4700 outoforder while flashing rom.

Try press (contact+itask) , then press softrest, then release the softreset, finally release the (contact+itask), don't release (contact+itask) before you press and released the softreset buttom. if don't work, removed the battery for a while and try again.

I have sourced an HX4700 which had a version of WM5 running. PDA is now stuck in the bootloader screen (serial / USB 1.01) and trying to flash WM6 ROM in Vista but it seems to stick on 0% using the universal bootloader. I am running Vista ultimate but no joy............
Any assistance greatly appreciated!

I had the same result using the gui version of the bootloader. Use the regular bootloader and it will flash the rom.

yea I was able to get to flash one time with vista, I went over to XP and had no more issues. The problem is Vista not the bootloader or anything else, if you can get an XP machine, it should work right away.

If we get SDHC on the 4700 then it's basically the same as the new Ipaq211. The only thing that I am still learning to deal with after all this time is the track pad.... I don't know why HP did that. It could have really been a nice gaming PDA.

I used to use PPC Winc a nice app for wifi management but it only worked pre-WM5 OS. Well since we're all gonna be reloading to the new rom soon :D , I'm just trying all the apps I have to pass the time. PPC Winc works with this wm6 rom. I also just dug up my old Audiovox RTM-8000 and if any of you have one of these you can use Running voice gsm and it works great!!

See this article which describe problems with Cisco accesspoints which have QOS enabled.....

No problems here. I use Norton Antivirus, and I did an online check on the Bootloader.exe install file. Nothing found and no suspicious activity. Maybe you could state the type of Antivirus used, and where you downloaded your copy of the bootloader.
You should get the bootloader program from chrismrulz directly. Here is the link http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=246529

Not sure how to test this out.
you would have to connect the 4700 to an external, powered, HDD with a USB sync cable. External AC power to the HDD is needed for this. If support is present, you would be able to see the HDD as external storage. Hope this works because this sure would be a big boost of functionality.

I just installed the rom and it's pretty zippy. The USB HDD did not work though. The app is similar to WM5 Storage or Card Export. Neither worked as well but cardexport gave an error that dll's were corrupt or missing. I'm gonna keeping testing it out for a bit.

The ROM update was easy, worked flawlessy from the start, and is a major improvement over WM2003 and that sketchy WM5 update provided by HP. I have not found anything that does not function properly, the speed is wonderful, and the only time I have to soft reset is when I do somthing stupid. You do wonderful work. Keep it up.

I think it's better to install fresh. I did a restore from fix1 to fix2, but when I restoreed from fix2 to fix3, my PPC came up with a wifi error that wouldn't go away. I went over to the pdaviet rom and it worked OK. I'l reinstall again using fix or the next core when I have a chance. My undewrstanding is that you may be able to use a restoreed system within the same WM6 core, but not on a core upgrade.

So... why does it say windows mobile 5 CE version 5.2 in System info under Program files?
P.S. we use self signed certs for our exchange server and I can sync wirelessly with exchange. I do not know if this made a difference but after reading all the probs ppl had with importing certs I googled import tools and found prapi.exe and ran it. It uses the active sync connection you run it on the PC and the command is prapi.exe -c file.cer and it does something, you can see the XML and thats it. I used it with two certs then tried (for the first time) to sync with out exchange server and it worked fine. Again I do not know if it helped or not. In fact the certs do not show up in the cert manager so who really knows... Your mileage may vary.

It says Windows Mobile 5.0 (WinCE 5.02)
That is with his WM6 Fix3 installed Yesterday.
Under Settings --> System Tab and About it says 6 classic CE 5.2.1908
Come to think of it that System Info tool may be from the resco tools I installed. At any rate it clearly states something other than the "About" app.
