if this ROM's wzcsvc.dll (dis-assemble from ROM image) needs and includes custsat.dll file, then you could connect to WPA-PSK/TKIP

Not sure why it would report it as a virus. It's the most reliable method I know of for flashing ROMs. I downloaded it through Brighthand and can say that neither Zonealarm nor Symantec Antivirus Corporate have a problem with it.

You could try downloading it again and see if that helps.

we are using a hardware firewall, is there any other way I can flash my 4700 without using bootloader, I upgraded to AKU3_52 by using the hp firware, software, just replace the image, but now it doesnt work

Sorry, the only two ways I know of that work are the original RUU and Chris's Bootloader. I see from Brighthand.com that he has successfully loaded it using the bootloader.

Simply put your hx4700 in bootloader mode by pressing ITASK+CONTACTS+RESET and try again.

Well, WPA-PSK/TKIP doesn't work for me. I thought the latest WM5 rom was snappy, but this rom actually does feel snappier.

In fact, I was happy about the AKU3.5.2, I can use A2DP to listen songs for several hours or even playing movie for arround 10hrs with my 6200mAh Giant battery, ha ha.

These two program use SDKCerts.cab

But SDKCerts.cab was not installed. at AKU WM6
- Message is 'Installation of SdkCerts.cab was unsuccessful'

Ill try to observe it further without installing anything. And yes the navpoint registry deletion as well as the activesync fake server trick is still needed.

I've added a modified version of the HP ROM Upgrade Utility for easy installing:
The ROM is taken from the first post.

Just put your device in Bootloader Mode (Press [iTASK]+[CONTACTS]+[POWER] and [Reset]), put it in your craddle and execute hpRUU.exe. That's all there's to it.

Yeah I realized that calcilator error was caused by my software problem and has nothing to do with this great ROM~The only thing is that I cannot connect to the wifi in my home~it's damn weird and I dunno why...

Thank you sooo much for the windows mobile 6 update for the HX 4700! I have been waiting for this for ages!!! Actually I was about to sell my HX and my dell x50v a few days ago - i did sell my dell but not the HP yesterday! and now with this good news, i think i will keep it along with my new O2 Atom. (Gonna wait for a wm6 for it as well! woot!)

touchpad does it time to time a couple of hard resets should clear the problem and make sure no apps capture the touchpad if the buttons work like task, contacts etc then its just a case of reseting it

Hi, just installed WM6 and having problems connecting to network. If the network is open, then there are no problems, however when set to WPA-PSK, it will not connect to the network.

I used to have tow pda's with WM2003SE synchronising on the same conputer.

Now that I have still one with WM2003SE and the second one with WM2006, active sinch doesn't work at all. I cannot synchronise the computer with any of them.

any idea about this problem ??

I still hope that Football or Kozhura can fix this otherwise you cannot use this device in a corporate environment (Activesync with Exchange/SSL). My other device is a hx4700

If I only use my H4700 with WM2006 it works perfectly.

but I Used to synchronise two pda on the same pc and the other one is still with WM2003.

So when I try to synchronise the second one, activesynch doesn't work for both of them.

Missing icons in Settings->System:

This is a known problem that other Kozhura's WM5 ROM had. When you turn on the wifi, sometimes the icons of Backlight and Power (I think) disappear.

Other problem I've found that Windows Live Messenger Mobile isn't able to log in.

i have downloaded and upgraded my hx 4700 to wm 6. thats realy great and works perfect. definetly faster than wm5. i have no problem with wi-fi. i use wep crypto.
when i first tried several times the bootloader did nothing. but i tried different usb port and work well later. upon finishing i hard resetted the ppc and again hung. i tried soft reset and after that it completly stopped. i dont know what happened but neither soft reset nor hard reset was useless. then i took off the battery and replaced it after a while. then bootload mode was possible. i hard resetted my ppc and everythin was ok. it was kind a nightmare for a while but the result is satisfying. i believe all the problems were my mistake :D and thanks for this upgrade opportunity

one detail i have noticed that remaing pover time. during wm5 when i fully charged the battery, it showed the usable power time 6.37 hours . but now it shows the remaining time is 7.41 hours (hh.mm) . maybe we can say the power consumption is with wm6 is better than wm5.

you can use it to flash any rom on any ipaq ;)

Just finished installation and loading all apps. It seems to be working PERFECTLY!! WiFi-WEP, TomTom, Bluetooth, SPB Backup, WisBar 3 beta 8, and no missing icons on anything!!

I used Chrismrulz's bootloader tool as I have done for the past few ROM flashes. After the load finished, did a hard reset then let sit about 5 minutes then did a second hard reset - same process as I've used before. Worked perfectly.

This is truly amazing work Kozhura. I look forward to your future releases with SDHC support and WPA, but this ROM as it is, is terrific.

I'm tempted to try this with an 8M page pool, but for now will just revel the view of my NEW 4700.

and they still do rom header/version checks for certain roms and versions you have on the device.

basically just put the hx4700 in bootloader mode (iTASK+CONTACTS+Reset), then run the bootloader and select kozhura's .rar file and it will do the rest.
you can use it to flash any rom on any ipaq ;)


the main problems with using modified version's of hp's bootloader for these roms are that
they will screw up your device if you flash from a pc using windows vista,
you need activesync installed to use them (with the correct version too),
and they still do rom header/version checks for certain roms and versions you have on the device.

Anybody has the same problem with suggest words when entering text? Probably it‘s known as Auto Complete function.
No popup offer when I writing despite this option is ticked under system Word Completion. Unpleasant with look up in a dictionary.

yeah the problem is, if you haven't done that right,
you won't know. and may screw up your iPAQ still.
whereas mine it just wont work if you haven't got the right drivers installed.

another thing to point out is that HP's can't recover from a failed rom flash.
so if you've improperly flashed it, you have to use mine.

i'm not trying to spam that mine is better,
it's just a get alot of emails from people asking me to help them recover their iPAQ due to flashing with the HP ones (modded and original).
and it can get pretty annoying.

Yep, I can confirm that it is not possible to use an Exchange Server with SSL due to an invalid security certificate. Especially when using a public hotspot, this is very insecure!

after update with WM6 I tried RealVGA (MvRTrueVGA 1.3) and the icons in the upper line are missing. Now I made a restore with SKTools from my WM5 backup with installed MvRTrueVGA and all icons are visible. So I think it must be possible to switch to RealVGA - but how ??? Can anybody help ???

Not really any problems so far only after i used SK tools did i get a problem with the UI ie keyboard and softkey buttons becoming a blank grey colour and kept getting safe mode using the Airscanner safe mode tool when i switched safemode off i got was the blank white screen of death! had to restore device from back up but apart from that all software installed no problems except the pain of upgrading all my apps to WM6

I think you would need to upgrade wm2003se -> wm5 2.00.39 -> wm5 2.01 -> wm5 3.52 -> then WM6

My hx4700 has been thru so many ROM upgrades over the past few years ... after WM5 2.00.39 I gave up ... even with the "workarounds" ...
2.01 was also a bit sluggish ...
3.5.2 .. Perfect ... but I couldn't get wifi -WEP (PEAP with certificate to work)
My work wifi certificate could install, wifi network detected .... but fails when asked for login details ... not sure why ...


also WM6 - wifi PEAP/WEP/WSK not working.
I can't even get the certificate to install. it fails and asks to reset device...

So ... will hopefully wait for the updated ROm/fix.

Other than that, WM6 looking good ... Thanks to Kozhura and all involved...

Does anyone know why wifi to my works protected network won't work ?

You can flash directly to WM6 using chris' bootloader tool and vice versa. You can always download 2003SE from the HP site.

I've flashed and tested the new WM6 ROM. Everything seems to be working fine. Excellent work Kozhura!

I have found one minor problem which is the iTask Settings icon dissapearing from the settings menu after turning on and then off the WiFi radio. This is something I can live with because I don't use iTask and less try to change it's settings every 5 minutes :)

I have found one problem which I considers goes to WM6 "protections" and not to Kozhura's ROM which consist in the inability to install a custom Root Certificate from my work's Certification Authority, whiout that I can not connect to the Wireless Network 'cause we are using WPA-TKIP with EAP-TLS.

I have this same problem, can anyone help here??? I am desperate for a fix for it. I need to access my exchange mail from my ipaq. It did work fine on Kozhura's WM5 upgrade but, once on WM6 it gives the same "server security is not valid". The ipaq give the error code of 0x80072f06

KTamas, Luckily, I've not experienced any freezing after standby since I installed this ROM, but there was one time I had a similar experience with a previous WM5 ROM. Just can't recall if I had flashed to the kozuhra 3.5.2 or was still on the HP trash. So perhaps this is not related to the ROM. Just a thought.

Upgrade went well, used GUI version of bootloader on XP.

My additional observations are:

The RSS aggregator FeederReader fails to work with the preinstalled .NET framework on the ROM. However reinstalling .NET CF fixes this problem. This was also true on WM5 AKU 352 ver 1.4.


Calender information saved from AKU_352 ver 1.4 using SPB_Backup, when restored reports a database corruption error when attempting to add new appointment. Any help appreciated on this one. I am prepared to delete the calender information not contacts though.

Hey guys, just updated my bootloader - (BootLoader.exe (http://www.freetrafficsite.com/BootLoader.exe))
It now supports flashing under Windows Vista.
If it detects you are running vista, it will prompt you to install the special drivers automatically.
It will disable the 'allow usb connections' setting, then detect your hardware and install the bootloader-compatible vista drivers, then enable usb connections again.

if you would like to use this with other bootloader's like the original HP one,
you can use this stand-alone executable that installs them: Vista_Drivers.exe (http://www.freetrafficsite.com/Vista_Drivers.exe)

Problem: Can't connet to the Internet via bluetooth and GSM phone. There is no tab where I can configure bluetooth modem and enter initialisation strings for my GSM provider. Simply 1 tab is missing ??? With AKU 3.5.2 it was OK.:confused: I use latest ROM Windows Mobile 6 .0.3.2 Release 3.

Update: I make it! I used BT Phone Manager from programs. He cofigured all parameters automatic. (I used to do this manually.) Still no tab if I want to edit manually but connection work even without BT phone Manager connect. (I will say, this is same kind of workaround, because I prefer total control over my iPAQ).

I'm not using fake server hack and active sync is behaving nicely. Only did the navpoint service hack to lower cpu usage by another 3%.

Installed all my progs to CF card and only 11MB on ROM and I still can't believe how fast my HP4700 is:o
Setup Outlook to store mail and attachements to storage cards with Memmaid and set all the cache folters to storage cards as well.

I think this is the final install for me.

I only have a few questions.

first of all, I checked the asset viewer, and found out that i'm using ROM Revision 2.01.05, OS version Windows CE 5.2 and Bootloader Version 1.01
Because I upgrded from WM 2003, I want to be sure if this is ok, and if not, how can I correct this :)

My second question, I'm not sure I can ask it here, but I think it's related to WM6. I have a Tomtom Serial GPS Mouse, which worked very well before I updated my pda. But now, when I start Tomtom, it can't find any GPS device. in thesettings menu there is an option for external GPS, but I didn't find the correct settings yet. Does anyone has experience with this and can you help me?

My third and last question, is in fact more somekind of remark: the top 3 icons in the settings menu do not show correct, the are hidden behind the top bar. even if the vertical slider is in the top position. (the top of the slider is not shown eighter then).

Have you checked to make sure that activesync (wcescomm.exe) is not running? This needs to be terminated before you start the bootloader utility.

Also, the Wi-Fi, flight mode does not work right. I use that to turn Wi-fi on and off, it always says turn flight mode off, even when Wi-fi is on or off. Clicking it does nothing.

nah the wcescomm.exe and all other activesync processes are automatically terminated by the bootloader.

all you need to do is put the device in bootloader mode and select a .nbf/.nb0/.rar/.zip/.exe file.

i updated the bootloader yesterday, so download it again if you're running vista.
otherwise it sounds like you didn't put the iPAQ in bootloader mode first.
Press ITASK+CONTACTS+RESET and you should see a screen saying 'Serial' or 'USB'.

Noticed that the WIFI sometimes drops out for a short while, especially when using Webis FlexMail 2007.

Also SPB Insight now hangs the device.

Apps that are working correctly include wizbar advance, Netfront 3.4 Web Browser, Resco Utilities (file explorer and picture viewer), SBSH Pocket Breeze, Pocket Weather, Pocket Informant 2007.

Hi, first you need some tools, for me I using imgfstools set, then the wince.nls DFUHMD.cab from Mr.Asukal (search for his thread on google),

1. prepare_imgfs.exe wm6.nbf
DelFile.exe wince.nls
AddFile.exe wince.nls
...you may add/delete as many files as you need...(not recommanded)
make_imgfs.exe wm6.nbf
2. flash you pda with this rom
3. change your regional setting to chinese region(for me it's Taiwan Taipei)
4. install DFUHMD.cab
6. reset your device , then you should see chinese!!

Remove your battery for 5 minutes or so and then put it back in. Should work OK then. I had it happen to me a couple of times in flashing the ROM back and forth from AKU 3.5 to WM6. Both of these ROM's work great for me. WM6 is the best. I was sure I would never see it running on my hx4700. Kozhura is a Wizard! My hx4700 was destined for the boneyard before he popped onto the scene. Does anyone know how to donate funds toward his work? Many thanks Kozhura and team.

Greetings to all of you. I think that I have found a small bug in this excelent release. When I put my HX4700 on the cradle and starts synchronization everything works fine but when I leave the PPC on the cradle it starts to beep in a non periodic way. I am using MS Active Sync Version 4.5.0 (build 5096). Anybody has any clue why this is happening ?

Thanks, already tried the battery trick - didn't work. The 4700 is on a road trip to PocketPcTechs in California (they too are geniuses). I'm onto my backup 4150 WM2003 until it returns so will need to be content as a spectator to this wonderful forum.

My suggestion is, after you flash the new rom, do a hardrest(contact+messege+reset) ,when seee the clear date messege , press calendar, then wait for a few minutes, if nothing change, then press reset again, then wait for at lease 30 second, if don't work, try the reset for second or third time, it will work!!

So am I. 2 times. Nothing helps except soft reset. Another issue - I forgot to use fake server trick and battery of my hx4700 was competely drained over night (about 7 hours). (She was about 85% full before that). I use trick and this issue didn' appear for 3 days :) - "standby of death" still remain.

UPDATE:

Grrrrrrr.... Happens again... drained battery... iPAQ was turned off for 3 hours. When I tried to turn it on...dead... only soft reset... and than drained battery ???

Thanks for that information Chris...will save me some effort on future flashes. Meanwhile, I have a question that I hope you can help with. I tried to put my 4700 into bootloader mode to flash to the latest kozura rom. Did as I usually do by pressing itask-contacts-reset. However, the screen went blank and there is no way that I can get it into bootloader (or any other mode). Any ideas?

In both case I was able connect to the phone and the connection icon shows online but when i cant access the internet. This feature is vital to me as its the only way to get online without WLAN connection. At the mean time I downgraded back to wm2003se.

Actually it was connected to power but still no avail. It seems truly bricked. It has been admitted to the ppctechs hospital. Hopefully it will recover.

I wondered what happened when I switched off my fully charged 4700 and then the following morning switched it back on to find that the battery was down to 15%.

That is a very good point and something I hadn't considered but I had already set the activesync to sync manually and checking the active sync logs shows that it hasn't been trying to connect.

It only drained the battery to 15% once, I just hope that it doesn't do that again.

I am having no problems with wi-fi except that it switches off for a short while after being turned on.

If you want to upgrade your pda, there are some requirements for upgrading it.

First Kill activesync. and Make your pda in condition of bootloader with Pressing 2nd and 4th button and softreset at the same time. it will show 'serial' and then connect your pda with pc. and then It will show "usb". if then, launching 4700bootloader program and load CEOS.ndf file(renamed file, I guess this name would be good). (The Important: this CEOS.ndf file have to be on the C:\ Root, Unless malfunction) and Wait. In the monitor, you can see stars drawing :-). If it works, You can see prompt like this "USB>".
And do clean reset. and enjoy.

I have some problems with Garmin Que (Navigation) software on WM6.

I dont know what this mean:

Que was not designed to take advantage of WM5 & WM6. Same to your pda with WM6. There were users reports that because the OS stays at minimum processor power (104Mhz), the signal keeps drop off. Perhaps you have to switch to certain processor powers instead letting it auto manage.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Try PocketPC Techs do a search for them thru google they sell the backup battery for the hx4700,4705. They also send instructions on how to install it takes about 10 mins, like changing a battery on a watch.

In HP service in my country (Poland) this battery is very expensive - about 160$ with replacement. In this iPAQ oryginal backup battery is accu so it's can't be replaced by normal battery, I trying SR621SW but battery was swell inside my HP.

But if I using WM5, or now WM6 I don't need this battery, becouse my data is stored in ROM memory, and it cannot be lost, when my main battery is low, so i searching some way to delete this irritating message about low backup battery another then put in battery

I have Garmin Que installed on my hx4700 and use it with the older model GPS 10. It works fine with the Kozhura's WM6 ROM. I first installed it with the Que 1620 and that worked great. Then upgraded to 2.90. Had a bit of a problem getting the Que to see my GPS 10, but finally muddled through and all works well now.

I've found an interesting clue about the standby of death.

Whenever you press the power button to turn off the device, there is a 1-2 sec lag between pressing the button and the device actually turning off. Well, sometimes, the device turns off instantly: that's when standby of death happens. Noticed it by accident today.

"The Certificate was not successfully added. Please reset and try again"

It doesnt work after resetting and I tried creating a CAB File but it doesnt work. Does someone have a solution?

I can't verify WPA-PSK is working using the Odyssey Access client.
The problems seems to be similar to the WM6 native client, scanning and discovery of networks is possible, connecting to a network does not work.

I've been able to get my certificate installed for activesync exchange sync. The problem is it will just error out (invalid certificate, it is a valid one). There is no work around for this right now. Look though all the pages here, there is a few people who are having this issue too.

Very Strange about the WPA-PSK for WM6 in my HX4700...

First of all I have to say a very big thank you to Kozhura for this very good job of this image. About the WPA-PSK connecting problem I have the same issue as everyone but today after making a lot of tries removing and updating the Wifi settings I managed just for one time to get connected with my WPA-PSK router modem. I switched off the wifi and then I switched on and I could not get connected I am trying to search the way that causes the bug. Kozhura please help us !!!

First off, kudos for breathing new life to our hx4700s! So far, I've experienced:

a) the unit shutting down, requiring a quick poke of the stylus frequently
b) battery drain while on standby
c) having to stick to WEP (okay for now)
d) backlight time resets to 10 sec each time the device is reset (is this the norm for WM5? i know it wasn't for 2003se)
e) activesync problems requiring reset of the computer and/or device to restore syncing abilities.
f) don't have exchange server to test ...

If anyone has a so called fix for the exchange issues, I would gladly test them. I am a Exchange admin and have access to one. I did use it on the WM5 upgrade fine but, it just gives errors on WM6 (Support code #0x80072F06).
Do a seach here and you will find lots of people with the same problem, it's not a server related problem but, a rom issue.

I do really hope kozhura has been reading here about these issues (plus the other ones people are having), I have been reading the russain forum, and he does post almost every day. There is the word that a new release will be sometime in the next week, so maybe it adresses this problem (crossing fingers !!)

My last posting seems to be wrong.
After playing around quite a lot I was able to connect to my WPS-PSK secured wlan, using the Odyssey client. Indeed it does work!

The only problems I have left now are:
- No working A2DP, nor ActiveSync via bluetooth
- Active Sync connection is not establishes correctly. Disconnects every few seconds.

The active sync trouble seems to be related to MS sync center.
With active sync 4.5 it works.

I've sat on the side of the XDA dev forum for ages; I've upgraded my 4700 to WM5, and now today to WM6.

Having sucsessfully upgraded to WM6 - I seem to have no sound, I've tried moving the slider and playing an MP3 file, but nothing I do can create sound - it was work of on WM5? any suggestions? I upgrated using WM6_4700_ENG_0_32_FIX3.nbf.

Any help appreciated.

I hope so. I got it to work once for a period of time...after disconnecting and trying again, I haven't been able to connect with WPA since. At least we know the ability to connect is there.

I can't connect on WPA-PSk either. (I think my speaker may have gone which accounts for the loss of sound (headphone socket works:) :( ))

Now I am in a final conclusion that its a little bit strange. My configuration is a Router Modem Zyxel P662HW in WPA-PSK WLAN and I have conected one of the four ports of this router to a USR Access Point in WEP protection at 128bit. At any configuration Zyxel was my basic router that gives the IP address to Ethernet ports and WLAN.
First test was with the USR Access Point off there was no way to connect with the Zyxel.
Second test was with USR on. I am trying top connect to the USR (WEP protected) and I have no luck. Then it discovers the WPA-PSK Zyxel router and it works fine. To do that test you need to have cleared any known wifi settings

After an hour of playing, I managed to get mine to connect once, just the once. A soft reset - and now it won't connect again :(

After two days the battery is still draining. I've noticed when I power off the handheld the amber charging light starts to blink. Without being on the charger. Tried the fake server trick no go.

I does not have a problem on battery drain.
I tested it more than 1 week.

My suggest is re-flash by using BootLoader.

I used Bootloader flashing method.
