charging devices compatible?

Hello,
I own my HTC Touch now a few days and I read already alot about it in this forum, thank you to all carrying together so much useful informations! :)

Now my question:
I own also another charging device with the same connector.
It says for output: +5V, 0.5A and output power 2,5W max

The original charging device of the touch has 5V, 1A.

Are these two Charging devices exchangeable or is there a risk in changing it?

I'm a totally novice in electricity-topics..:(

it's ok... would only charge slower than the original one
