Hi,

I have successfully upgraded my O2 XDA Orbit to WM6 but I am finding that the gprs keeps connecting. It is my understanding that this does not cost me unless it is downloading data.

How can I check which program keeps bringing up the gprs connection and how can I measure the data volume transmitted?

regards

Gary

Hi Gary,

It could be Quick gps, Windows update or settings within your Orbit email account's that are triggering this problem. You need to switch off automatic updates within Quick GPS and Windows update and ensure that you havn't set your email to send and receive every X amount of minutes.

Your Orbit should have come with an "SPB traffic monitor" disk that monitors GPRS traffic - try installing it. If not, I use "Efficasoft smartphone GPRS traffic monitor" which cost about £3 for the registered version.

Mail back if you require more information.

Hi,

Similar to the person above, I'm having problems with my MDA Vario iii - I'd be very grateful for any help.

About 1 or 2 weeks ago my MDA Vario iii started to try to connect for no reason to GPRS. It would connect, and then I'd have to disconnect myself. Since then, it's been doing it more and more often, and now whenever I use the machine, browsing files, writing texts, even if the alarm rings, it will attempt to connect. And it can no longer successfully connect (even when I try to make it connect eg by opening internet explorer); it will just attempt to connect, seemingly fail, re-attempt, on and on and on. This makes it unusable, really. And I've noticed that often, just before it attempts this, a small envelope in a tray with an arrow appears in the bar at the top of the screen, and notification flashes up at the bottom of the screen, as though I have a text or something. The only way to stop these attempts are to put my phone in flight mode. I've downloaded nodata, and that stops the connection attempts, but I'm still getting the Notification flashes and the envelope sign very often.

I've tried the above suggestions, regarding GPS etc. I can't understand what has caused this problem, nor why it's getting worse. Thank you!
