How to detect the process that is draining the battery?
Does it exists a program to detect the usage of system resources?

I notice a huge diference in battery life...

In normal use (no Wifi ou BT) i spend about 1% for each +-15-20min

How about you guys?

wifi consumes a lot of energy, so you can measure for how much time it will turn off from full battery. My battery fails and i have ordered a new one i will test it when i recieve the new one, but now it fails after 10 minutes of wifi usage

I notice that i have battery drain since i've upgraded to wm6...
My BA it's very hot, i never seen it like this...
i have Wireless off, Beam off, Bluetooth off, low brightness...

Any one knows what's happen? Is it problem of WM6 or some application?
Is there anything overcloking my Ba???

Exactly the opposite !! If u want it to last longer , just reduce the brightness to 40% , believe me ull get surprised..

Xeon.... i have the brightness at minimum, but i think that the problem is not that... i always used brigtness like this...

theres some problem with this rom or with some application...

i dont think it's because of the ROM . i played Holdem Poker on my device 2 days ago it was fully charged and 4 hours later i got 34% remaining with Level : 2 Brightness , no wifi , gprs , bluetooth or MMC/SD installed . ( 1450mah battery )

well, it drains a bit faster, but...

WM6 is very good and stabble its a very good upside!

I've tested the following:
- No Wifi
- No BT
- No GPRS
- Brightness 100%
- SD inserted
- No operation at all (timers for backlight an turn off at 60min)

O got the following drainage:
HOURS BATTERY
18:47 94%
18:52 93%
18:56 92%
18:59 91%
19:02 90%

AT THIS TIME ALL THE SAME BUT I TURNED ON Wifi AND BT
20:05 73%
20:08 72%
20:10 71%
20:13 70%
20:17 69%

21:00 54%
21:02 53%
21:06 52%
21:09 51%
21:11 50%
(the timmings aren't all exact, because some times when I looked it had already changed the %)

In conclusion for each +-4min i lost 1% in battery. (remenber that brightness was 100% don't be scared :) )

Can anyone test in WM5 the same scenario? or in another WM6?

Mine is OK. I don't experience bigger drains than the WM5 baniaczek.

I'm having +/- the same values that you post....

2% drains in 5 minutes.

Theres something that is making this... My BA is HOT, i've never seen it like this.

Problem from some application or from the rom... but what?

i've also noticed the temperature issue...

I dont have that temperature Issue . Maybe your XDA is sick or suffering from an inflammatory disease ? scan for viruses :P

so there is not significant battery drain in this rom, test without the home today plugin and you will find this out :)

i can not test much until i got the new battery

SandStorm

i do not have the heating problems, it is now, working from yesterday 3am and now, it is 4:45pm and i have 37% remaining. my usage is mostly web

xplode

so the conclusion is that it does not drain battery so drastic - it wirks in normal amounts of energy consuming. maybe all with problems should think about new battery - i did, i can not blame roms for this because it was happening with my wm5 also and the same is with wm6 so the problem is in my device

Well fact for me is that it gets hot!

I skipped the WM5 hype so for me its a looking at 2003 (1.42) and this wm6 rom.

From my point of view its does use more power than before.
Wifi uses even more than before.
Its subjective and I can live with it.

@Flyboy
Did you have a home plugin or the standard rom ?
If so can you do the same test with / without it.

That would not be subjective and would may be point a finger

I didnt have battery draining problem with HTC today plugin , but i started to notice after i installed the iphone.cab simulator that it's draining more than 20% faster than ever !! I believe maybe it's because the plugin needs to load more than 30 dll files with 251 priority and 11 threads and keep them running in the RAM . Another thing , be sure to end task the Active sync because when u unplugg the devices it keeps running on your PPC as background process ( dont ask me WHY ) .

hmm,strange comments.
i have no problems at alll with this rom.no unnormal drainings and my BA dont gets "hot" in normal use.it gets only hot when i use wifi over long periods.

htc home plug is installed.

ps.:hmm..maybe try out to disable/stop audio manager and then try again to control draining;
or press pause and then reverse button on audio manager.maybe it causes battery drainage when song is loaded and paused.

I have a HOT BA!!... Well not in temperature :) ;)

No I do not have any temperature issue.

I've tested without the home CAB.

I agree with xplode.. This rom drains a bit more than WM5 but nothing drastic, and my battery as many years... probably requires someday a new replacement.

If anyone with WM5 could report the drainage, we could discover the % of diference between the roms. That is the point!

hmm..i tried it to find any strange things with it.

battery drainage-fully normal.
charged it full at:20:30 MEZ
now:98% (23:15 MEZ / 2,5 h )

I left my BA in flight mode (IrDA off as well) and overnight battery drain was around 15-20% (it should be 1-2%). I had almost nothing installed (TCPMP, some VJ Tools and QIP) and I had done a soft reset before leaving the BA on the table. So there wasn't any 3rd party program able to cause this heavy battery drain. There must either be a ROM program causing heavier CPU usage or some interface active. Also for a quick look the device seems to get up from standby mode quicker than in WM5. This could be due to system optimisation or the device doesn't really go into a standby but some higher consumption mode.

Anyone guess what is the problem?

Hi guys

Now I'm using WM6 in normal day usage, I notice a little more consume than WM5 but nothing like it was in the begining.
Now the drain is OK and aceptable.
If it is possible to save battery ok...

I've flash it like Wiki tells and the after installed all programs I've erased all registry hive, then reinstalled all programs... maybe stupid, but in WM5 it happend me by accident and BT seemed to have starded working better.

Something must be different, I hardly notice any battery drain at all.
I went to work for the whole day, came home and it only drain about 3-4%.

from 100 to 0% in 1 hour ?

Hi

I've got the battery drain issue too.(although without HOT BA).
I test different ROMs a lot. And I've noticed that:

- 2005/2006 roms are of course WAY better at saving battery (if working correctly that is)
- some 2005 roms had problem with BA waking up (even with BT OFF), and that lead to battery drain
- some wm2006 roms drain battery (very FAST ! and without waking up BA)
- WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2) by Helmi DIDN'T drain my battery
- WM6 CE OS 5.2.2000 (Build 20000.1.0.0.PV.HAT) also DIDN'T drain my battery
- WM6 CE OS 5.2.1933 (Build 18533.0.7.0) by Explode DRAINS my battery

By "didn't drain" I mean, that my BA can work for a week without charging.
By "drains" I mean, that BA dies in less than 12 hours. Even before dying, I soft-resets when you try to power it on, if battery is lower than 30%.

It seems that ROM based on older CE (5.2.1620) (also PV.HAT has older base, the version numer on PV.HAT is a little joke :) ) don't drain. That's my observation. I hope we will find a good solution to this.

Cheers

I have noticed different battery behavior with wm5 and wm6. with wm5 battery drains slower, but the phone and BT starts to hang and lose connection at aprox. 15% of battery left. Same at wm2003. With wm6 battery drains a bit faster but I have reliable phone & BT connection almost to 1-2% of battery left. So in the end wm6 better for me. Also I’ve noticed, that HTC home and Soti CardExport is very power consumption ones.

guys... just want you to know

i thought it was normal for the battery to go flat that fast.
i was using the HTCHome, and the BatteryPack from OmegaONe which monitors the battery percentage, free memory, sd card status.

i've noticed a significant change in battery drainage when i disabled the BatteryPack...
i think it's because i had it monitor my SD card and Free Memory, which took some power from time to time.

check your apps for those who access the SD card. my 10c.

OK. So I've returned to WM2003SE to investigate the battery matter.

It's known that WM5 and WM6 ROMs are better at saving battery than old WM2003.

Well, funny thing, but my battery drains normally now. It's an old battery, but still lasts few days of light use (contrary to WM6 which lasts 12 hours on my BA).

I've had this problem with most WM6 builds.
