I have picked up the idea of SMSoIP and have written a "small" app for sending SMS over the Internet.

Because the current version (v0.0.9) is not completely bug free, I will release a fixed public Version soon.

nice ..!
Keep your work skandler :D

Do you think there is a way to incorporate this programme into pocketcm? that way we have the beautiful interface of pocketcm and the super cheap sms of voipbuster or similar!

i also asked the author of pocketcm this question on his forum:

Hi Skandler,

Congratulations and thanks for your application. It is even esier to use than Yoobe's SMSoIP, because you've made most of the data already prepopulated. However I have some requests for it to be perfect, IMHO:

1. I've seen that you remove the leading "0" found in national numbers, prior to inserting "00CC" (Country Code). All my contacts are stored in national format in my Contacts list, but we, brazilians, have to dial a 2-digit carrier code after the leading "0" (e.g. 0411987654321, where 41 is for TIM, 19 is the area code, and 87654321 is the mobile subscriber number), for what I have to edit the number prior to sending SMSs. Like Yoobe once did in his application, would it be possible for you to include a field somewhere for it to remove "n" dígits (3 in my case, including the leading "0"), when a national number is detected?

2. Could you make your application pick other fields in Contacts as well, like "Radio", "Company", etc., in order to allow it to send SMSs to the soft SMS providers out there?

3. You have provided one set of fields ("Username", "Password" and "From Num.") only for both "VoipBuster" and "VoipBusterPro" in your "Provider" tab. I know that both of them belong to the same company. However, in order to tune in the embedded Voip feature in my WM6 device, I have different accounts in both of them. Would it be possible for you to split them?

Well, even if you don't implement any of the above, your application is still very handy.
Thanks anyway.
Best regards,

Carlos

I don´t understand your problem.

1. In what format is the mobile number saved in Outlook?

2. How does convert my program this number?

3. How should the number be?

1. In what format is the mobile number saved in Outlook?

2. How does convert my program this number?

3. How should the number be?
I'm sorry for my poor english in my previous post. It was probably not clear at all. I will try to repeat the same example as before:

I want to make an hypothetical national phone call to a mobile subscriber whose local number is 87654321. He lives in a city whose code is 19. As I live in Brazil, which happens to be continental country, I must choose one of the half a dozen long distance carriers to make the appropriate interconnection between the local carriers. In my example, I will pick TIM, whose code is 41. All our national calls begin with a leading 0 (zero). So, to reach that subscriber, I must dial 0411987654321.

Answer to question #1: that's exactly what it is stored as "Mobile" in my Outook Contacts.

#2: If I choose this contact in your application, it translates that number to 0055411987654321 (I had prepopulated 55 as the country code, of course). So, I conclude that your application detects a national call (by the first digit being 0 and the second not 0, probably), then it replaces the leading 0 by 00CC (coutry code), right?

#3: That's my point: I need it to replace the leading 0 plus the 41, i.e. 3 digits in total, so that the translated number becomes 00551987654321.

Please, let me know if you need further details.
Thank you very much for your attention.
Best regards,
Carlos

Ok, thank you for the detailed explanation. But it´s very difficult to me, to understand this.

Is this right:

....0.411987654321 Outlook
0055411987654321 wrong conversion
0055...1987654321 right conversion

In your case, I must strip 3 nunbers and add the 00CC ?! And this at ALL your mobile numbers? You don´t habe numbers where only two numbers must be stripped to get the correct international mobile number?

So I can add a Checkbox where can users choose between two-number or three-number strippen in the configuration page.

Yes, in my case, 00CC should replace the first 3 digits. And yes, all my contacts are stored in national numbers. IMHO, perhaps it would better if you could provide a fill in box, like the country code one, where the user could specify how many digits he/she wants to be removed, when a national number is detected, instead of a checkbox with predefined values. But such operations should be performed for national number only. In general, if you find a number already in the format 00CC..., I suppose you should not touch it. On the other hand, if a local number is found (i.e 7 or 8 digits, the first one being different from 0), you should insert 00CC without removing any digits. But I'm sure that all these cases might have already been implemented by you...

Hello Skandler,

I would love to have the posibillity to select "Send Text Message" from a contact's detail page and go directly to your app where that contact is than selected.

Also when i receive a new message notification it would be super if i could just press reply and the contact (or number) is selected in your app so i can start typing right away!

Skandler,

amazing work! You have to keep it up, buddy! :)

Just a couple of hints from my side:

1.) My sound settings regarding succesful/failed sending can't be saved. Each time I close the programme and open it again, the dialogue disappears and I need to fill in the path again.
2.) History cannot be saved either - each time I close the programme, the history disappeared when I open the programme again.
3.) Buttons on the config page (suppose normally I could browse with those buttons to select a sound file) are not functional.

Apart from that, just a request to make this smart programme even better:

Do you see any chance to create a folder system or something, where I could save all sent messages in a handy way? Probably even export them? That would be useful!

Anyway, I'm more concerned about the first couple of points regarding the saving stuff.

Would be great if u could fix that!

Cheers, brother....

Thanks for reporting it. I will fix the bug this weekend.

2.) History cannot be saved either - each time I close the programme, the history disappeared when I open the programme again.

History is not saved yet. I will implement this feature in one of the next releases.

3.) Buttons on the config page (suppose normally I could browse with those buttons to select a sound file) are not functional.The buttons play only the entered sound file. There is now browsing function. But I could implement browsing WAV Files. Itīs a good idea.

The next release of IPSMS will have support for Reseller Accounts!

Well, I actually was just thinking about a useful way to see the messages I sent which makes the follow-up of longer conversations easier, if you get what I mean.

However, it might be enough to save the history, really.....

That can certainly be useful!

After using your program for a while now, and loving it more & more, i do notice some minor points i would love to have differently:

Remember last provider
Sort Contacts on usage, so the last/most used contact is at the top.

Hi there. Great app! I was thinking of coding something similar myself, although with a few tweaks to this app I might not need to - good work!

Some feedback:

1. I second the last poster - I use VOIPBuster Pro and the app doesn't remember this setting every time I re-load it.
2. Why the blue status screen on the front page? I think this makes the app look ugly, I guess it was good for testing/debug, but now perhaps you could hide this - in my opinion, the app would seem to perform more gracefully without. Perhaps you could just display "Sending..." and then ..."Done" in a status label.
3. Add a trim() function to the outlook contacts list; contacts with a blank last name get a space before their name in the list, making them appear indented.
4. How about an auto complete on the name field, so you could begin typing a contact's name and it auto-completed.
5. This is a REALLY HARD ONE to do (!) and requires interrop with MAPI but what about adding the sent SMS messages to the "Sent Items" folder of pocket outlook.

Thanks for a great app

Carlos

Good luck with that - something I'm also looking at developing at the moment. It depends what you're coding in, but if it's .NET, you'll need to write a wrapper, or purchase Mobile In The Hand (www.inthehand.com)

i think that would be great! but i would recommend making this optional and the "smileys bar" as well.. probably not everyone would like to use it.

I second to this, you should make an option for that "smileys bar" and the "photo contact" because not everyone would like to use it.

For example myself :) I use PocketCM Keyboard with my own layout that has all those smiley buttons :) For sure a lot of people are having something like this as well.

And I like the idea to store the SMS to the PIM database (Pocket Outlook).

PS: However, I opted to have those 8 photo contacts! That's nice and handy.

i think that would be great! but i would recommend making this optional and the "smileys bar" as well.. probably not everyone would like to use it.

on another note... : i asked earlier if it would be possible to intercept sms. you said that you didn't think it would be...
I was just playing with the new version of pocketcm, and that does intercept sms... so it can be done!... it would be super.... that way you can simply answer an incoming sms through your app...

anyway... i'm looking forward to another release... i'm using your app everyday! and loving it!

skandler

Sending SMS with Voipbuster is not free.

http://www.voipbuster.com/en/smsrates.html

Some Voipbuster Resellers (like www.sparvoip.de) offer free SMS in some countrys.

gogol
5th October 2007, 07:58 PM
Even if it is free, you must purchase credit after some times.

I created an account with VoipBusterPro, and sent several free SMSes.

But after that, I got error not enough credit.

So, I purchased $10 credit.

Then I can continue to send free SMSes.

The credit is not decreased btw (if the destination rate = free !).

That´s rigth.

Send SMS messages to all these destinations for 0 ct/message!!
This offer is available for users with Sparvoip credit.

You must have credits to use free sms.

If you are using Outlook, then you should use international format.

Example: +55 123456789

That should work fine for any situation.

What do you mean by heavier ? It wouldn't make it slower to run, nor much bigger to store (ram or rom). And if you currently use both, you have no advantage in having separate apps.

Hi skandler,
first i want to express a BIG THANK YOU for this great program. I use smsbug to send lots of msgs every day and i really hate their java midlet.

I have a bug to report and two requests for you:

The bug: I can't modify the text i'm writing in the composing field. I explain: suppose i've written "Hi jenny how are you?" and then i want to use "jennifer" instead of "jenny": i can use the directional pad to move back the cursor to the word i want to change (or remove) but then, whatever the key i press (delete or any alphanumeric key), the cursor is sent back to the end of the text so i can only change/delete a single character a time. I.e. to completely remove the word "jenny" i have to: move the cursor back to the right of the 'y', press delete, the 'y' is removed but the cursor is brought back to the end of the message so i have to move it back again to the 'n', press delete, then move it back again to the second 'n' and press delete again... and so on.

It ONLY happens when you have the 'convert chars during input' option enabled in config.

- first request: pls add to the 'convert chars during input' option the following characters: à->a', è->e', ì->i', ò->o', ù->u'.

- second request: is it possible to make the program landscape-mode aware? I have a wizard so i mostly use your program in landscape mode ('cos i use my hardware keyboard to compose the msgs). Luckily the program is still usable in landscape but the UI gets a little more difficult to use. If an automatic portrait-landscape adjusting UI is too difficult to implement, you could make two different version of the program: landscape only and portrait only. I would obviously choose the former.

Thanks again for your great prog and keep up the good work!!! Bye

It's not true. It depens on where are you sending your SMS's. I, for example, need to send many msgs to a sweden cellphone (yeah, it's my girlfriend) and the best rate i've found so far that of SMSBUG, 0.03 x sms. Voipdiscount asks me 0.075!

Handling incoming SMS is not difficult. But saving sent SMS from IPSMS in the Outlook folder is only possible (I think) with the Mobile In The Hand API (http://inthehand.com/content/Mobile.aspx). But this tool costs 199$.

Hey Skandler
Thanks for a nifty prog. In the previous version I could search for a name. For instance I would type "John" and the prog would find him. However now I can no longer do that. If I try to, the prog opens a list with names and jumps to the first one whose name starts with the letter I tapped.

So: I want to type J-O-H-N and when I enter the J the prog jumps to Jacob, then I enter O and the prog goes to Oscar (etc).

I preferred the old method.

I am not sure what happened before. But I think, after the soft-reset it worked.

I cannot confirm this. Itīs working fine over ActiveSync here.

Are you sure, you have a working network conection with ActiveSync? Can you open a Webpage in the Pocket Internet Explorer?

Hi skandler,

That would be nice :)

Btw, can you make the "picture" configurable?

Not necessarily to use photo from contact, but using image from the same folder for the IPSMS.EXE will be enough.

For example (pseudo code) :

if (FileExists("photo1.jpg"))
{
display("photo1.jpg");
} else {
display(standard_image.jpg);
}

Of course for all 8 photos ... Then we can create the photos and put them in the .exe folder.

That would make nicer ! :)

Ok, I will integrate the following way to add a favorite:

1. Select normaly a contact
2. Double tap on favorite icon

DONE!

Btw, can you make the "picture" configurable?!

That was my first plan. But I haven´t found any solution to load pictures in the .NET Compact Framework.

filename = " c:\picture.jpg "
PictureBox1.Image = Image.FromFile("test.jpg")

results:

'FromFile' is not a member of 'System.Drawing.Image'

pictureBox1.Image = new Bitmap(@"photo1.jpg");

Taken from:

Another example from book "Microsoft .NET Compact FrameWork Core Reference"

Bitmap imageFromFile = new Bitmap(@"\Program Files\graphic1.bmp");

It´s not possible to use ANY number as caller ID. You can only use your own validated mobile phone number OR text, as caller ID.

But I can implement the requested feature for SMS77, to use a text as caller ID instead you´re real mobile phone number.

Hi skandler,

I have a feature request:
i (mis)use the abbreviations to paste often used (parts of) sentences. It would be great to have the option of different abbreviations for each favorite. let me explain a bit with an example:
when i select "john" from favorites, i could have an abbreviation that inserts " Hi John," cause that's how i start almost every sms to john. also i could have a standar
closing for john such as "greetz, geezer78".
if i choose for example the favorite icon of my girlfriend, i would have completely different (parts of) sentence
, if you catch my drift ;-)

I hope it's clear what i mean, and that you can find a way to make it happen!

as always: thanks a lot for this super app!

Hello again, Sven

Ok, this backlight dim effect only occurs when IPSMS is run from "\Windows", although all unpacked files have been copied to that location as well. Somehow it seems not to find something there. So, I've copied the entire IPSMS_0_!_7 folder to "\Program Files" and ran IPSMS.exe from there. I have been able to provision my data, but I've got stuck again, due to two dectected bugs:

1. Differently from previous versions, v0,1,7 seems to have been tailored to QVGA devices only, because all visible informations are shrunk to the upper left corner of my VGA screen. This problem is not blocking, because, as stated before, though with a little bit of difficulty, I could provision my data;

2. However, as soon as I press "Send", the program crashes with the following error message:

IPSMS.exe
WebException
Não é possível exibir uma mensagem de erro porque não foi possível encontrar o conjunto de módulos (assembly) de recursos opcional
em System.Net.HttpWebRequest.finishGetResponse()
em System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
em IPSMS.Form1.sendsms()

em System.Windows.Forms.Control._InternalWnProc()
em Microsoft.AGL.Forms.EVL.EnterMainLoop()
em System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run()
em IPSMS.Form1.Main()

As you can see, the message is issued in portuguese, although my ROM is WWE. Maybe it's because I have my Regional Settings as "Portuguese (Brasil) ". If you find it hard to read, please, let me know.

Thanks anyway.
Cheers!

Hi Sven,

Your're getting there. Your v0.1.8 does work in VGA,, but the problem is that it only works in portrait mode. If I have IPSMS runnning in portrait, and I decide to flip my Exec's screen to landscape, IPSMS' screen is shrunk again. And if I return it to portrait, the screen keeps shrunk.

But then, again, when I press "Send", that same dreaded error message is issued again, and IPSMS crashes.

Bear in mind that your v0.1.2 works fine on my Exec, though.
Hope you have it sorted out soon. I like the favorite contacts pictures feature you have implemented very much.

Thanks anyway.

Version 0.2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328242)
Hello again, Sven

I've just given your V0.2.0 a try. The VGA screen in landscape mode seems to be the same one as shown in portrait mode, i.e. the bottom part now hides below the real screen, for what either a scroll bar at the right of the screen, or a complete redraw for landscape mode would do. I suppose a scroll bar here wouldn't be a big problem for you to implement.

However, I still can't send a single SMS message. IPSMS keeps crashing with that same web exception error message shown in a previous post of mine. For what I understand from that message, it seems to be searching for an error message to be shown onscreen in case the SMS can't be sent for whatever reason at the moment, but it is unable to find it, because an optional resources assembly module is missing.

By the way, answering a previous question of yours, I've tried both Voipbuster and Voibusterpro.

Another possible bug I have detected, but not related to the VGA version, I suppose, is when I'm setting my favorite contacts, and I tap on the picture to be searched, it is unable to search for pictures stored in subdirectories in the Storage Card.

Hope you get it fixed soon for my Uni.
Thanks.

Ok, check this out: I run your v.0.1.2 executable, and SMSs are correctly sent! I'm testing by sending SMSs to myself (now through Voipbusterpro). But from your v0.1.7 onwards, it simply crashes on my Exec!

Both versions seem to share their database, because I recall the first time I ran v0.1.7, it had already found most of v0.1.2's previous settings. I had just to have my second account settings done. So, I suppose my account settings are correct. Even if they weren't so, a simple onscreen error message, such as "impossible to login", or something like that, would do a good job, I suppose. So, it seems there's really a SW bug going on here!

By the way, in your v.0.1.2, the scroll bar at the right while in landscape mode is there! I'll stick to this version for the time being.

Hope such inputs might, somehow, help you with your next releases. :)

Thanks a lot for your prompt responses and hard work shown so far.
Cheers!

@casouzaj: Please use the following provider paramters

voibuster.com or voipbusterpro.com

I think you have entered www.voipbuster.com or http://www.voipbuster.com. That is the cause, why your program is crashing.

You're right! I had provided both just voipbuster [voipbusterpro] as my first attempt. As it had crashed, I had tried a more elaborate setting: sip.voipbuster.com [sip.voipbusterpro.com], but still to no avail. But I had thought that field was intended to be solely a provider name, wasn't it? I had understood it was not to be the provider's registrar address, for example. Your application would automaticaly fill it up (just the way it happens to voipbuster.com [voipbusterpro.com]) Why such a strict rule, then? Well, never mind: the crash problem is over!

Now, I recall an old request of mine, if you remember. My contacts phone numbers are all stored in national format. I though your new versions would have a field for a certain number o digits to be deleted prior to inserting the international leading 00 implemented (3, in my case). Well, perhaps in a future release. :D If it's not much botter, while such feature is not implemented, would it be possible for you to allow editing functions on the selected contact number? In all IPSMS versions I tried so far, as soon as I tap on that field, its contents are deleted, and I have to fill in the whole international number.:confused:

Thanks anyway.
Cheers!

I can this feature, BUT I think such a option is to confusing for the most of users.

You cannot edit the phone number of your contacts. The number field is used to send messages to numbers, that are not in your contact list. If you enter a number to the number field, it jumps to "manual number" mode.

Sure, but other users would not be forced to set any addtional data. You could provide an editable field (such as the country code one, for example) with a default value allready filled in (e.g. 1). We (me and other members who might need such feature, of course) would edit it according to our needs.

Yes, exacly. I know it jumps to "manual number". That's why I'm asking you to allow me to edit it, so that I could just delete a couple of digits there, instead of having to fill the whole international number up again. Pehaps we're not quite understanding each other's meanings . :) But this would be a simple intermediate solution, while you get that editable "digits to be deleted" field, as described above, implemented. Once it's ready, I suppose I would seldom make use of such manual number editing feature...

Thanks anyway.

Carlos

I think you have uploaded v0.2.0 instead. I have downloaded from ftp.xda-developers.com (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/). The zip file is indeed named ipsms0_2_1, but my about page shows "Version: 0.2.0", and my VGA screen keeps missing the bottom part while in landscape mode, without a scroll bar.

Ok, now it's really v0.2.1. Thanks. I've noticed scroll bars implemented in all screens in landscape mode, except for the main screen. If the option "Show favorites' is ticked, the second line of favorites keeps hidden, but I have noticed that the abbreviations seem to have been correcly redrawn to the right of the screen, though.

So, I think you're almost there. I'll wait for you to implement the "nbr of digits to be deleted from the beginning" (or something like that) feature, or to allow editing of the international number of a selected contact.:D

Thanks a lot!

Btw, I have a request for future version :)

[x] Display name in the favorites

Because I like to hide the name :) Photo is enough and we knew their name already.

Hi skandler,
i use smsbug and voipbuster's nonoh.net to message a lot so i really love your program.
To send sms from my pc in a faster way, i've also developed a small opera widget that currently only supports smsbug (i use the well documented smsbug API and a bit of ajax programming).
I'd like to add nonoh.net support to my widget but i haven't been able to find any documentation on the web.

Could you possibly tell me where i can find more info?

Thanks a lot!
Bye

Is there a way to retrieve user credits? Thanks a lot!

As i mentioned, the key HKLM/IPSMS/settings/smsfontsize doesn't exist in my device. there was a HKLM/Software/IPSMS/settings/smsfontsize key but i removed that with total commander.

i also have tried completely removing the HKLM/Software/IPSMS folder in the registery. after that i get i message that i have to enter my country code, and than it quits on me again with the error message i added to my previous post.

i am absolutely sure i removed the key, and the folder as well.

after removal of the IPSMS folder in the registry it has initialised a new registry folder with IPSMS. there is no smsfontsize in the settings subfolder.

I tried manually adding the key smsfontsize with a string value of 8, (between 7 & 15) but that also doesn't help. it still doesn't start.

I, first of all, thanks, for me it works great. Just two wishs, be able to copy, past in the sms body and number; and the option to send to multiple numbers. Another ideia its the option to send sms at a difined hour. Thank's for all great job.

Problem with vga screen
Rotating screen twice makes everything ok. A workaround before a new version.

Please add the possibility to send long messages, splitted into some SMS

skandler

You can send long SMS with SMS77. Voipbuster und SMSBug allows only 160 chars.

But you can make it so that your app splits SMS on its own with other provider right ?

Yes, that would be possible. But I donīt think thatīs a good feature. The recipient gets many broken single messages.

Well, there's no other way to deliver a 160+ char. message... You just have to put a warning ?

I have integrated the hermled drivers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1674570&postcount=50), to customize the LEDs of a TyTN (Hermes) on an incoming message.

Man, this is getting pretty awesome! :)

When will you release the next version? And do you have any comments on which bugs will be fixed? Please tell me that the inbox issue will be solved, and that the outbox will be saved after closing the app. That would be famous! And the crash on no data connection issue, maybe? ;)

I know I'm curious, sorry for that...:p

Edit: After skimming through the HermLED-Thread I just wonder if you could increase the interval in which the LED flashes, or even allow the user to set the interval by him/herself?

When will you release the next version?
I think in three weeks or so.

And do you have any comments on which bugs will be fixed? Please tell me that the inbox issue will be solved, and that the outbox will be saved after closing the app. That would be famous! And the crash on no data connection issue, maybe? ;)

All bugs except the "Firstname Lastname" are fixed. Messges aren´t saved when you exit the program.

Hi,

VoIPBuster senden.

Wäre eine nette Funktion!

skandler congratulations for your great work! I would like to report to you a bug of ipsms ver. 0.2.6. I have a htc tytn hermes with black satin medium rom installed. When i try to quick add a phone number to the favorites by taping twice the favorite position the program crashes. I tried it several times. Do you want me to give you the log file?
