I was in Kensington on Sunday and suddenly my Hermes had an E in the top bar where 3G usually was.
Looks like the iPhone is on its way. Not that it excites me in the slightest, but Edge is interesting none the less.

My phone has been showing the edge symbol for a few weeks in Manchester.

Funny you shoudl mention that........
I recently had my Hermes (M3100) replaced by orange due to a problem with the hardware keys.
I flashed the same Black 3.5 Rom that I had been using before, but I not notice that I occasionally have an E too.
(Meaning EDGE - I'm not talking about any recreational pill here!)
I initially thought it was maybe an icon scr3w up, but it jumps between E, 3G and G.
Had a quick Google on Orange UK EDGE, and it looks like they introduced it in Feb 2006 - but I have never seen this icon on my PDA before?
Weird!

You will probably find that your previous device/rom simply didnt have the E icon enabled.
Orange launched E two years ago nearly, which basically means G on steroids (ie running at circua 128kbps - approx three times the usual GPRS data rate).
Whereas if you have 3G, its already running at 384kbps and if you have H then its already running at nearly 1mbps - but Orange only offer that in and near major cities so far.

according to wikipedia, EGPRS is comparable to 3G's 384kbps.
I am on TMobile UK with a vario II and i sometimes get an E instead of a G, does this mean that they are possibly testing the technology in some areas?
