Hi Crimson,
I too have excalibur and smart2go installed on Rogers Rom.
I dont know about your free trial installation but I can tell you what I did to get smart2go running.
I just installed the smart2go installer from their website ....Generic windows mobile installer.
and it worked out of the box.
I have Holux m1000 gps receiver...
Try it and le me know....

Thanks man. I got it installed. Evidently when I was trying to install it the website was down, but is now back up. Also if you use WM5/6 make sure you use maploader version 1.0 and not a later use. If not, you'll get a error message when trying to download maps.

This "sometimes" worked for me although I haven't used TomTom in a while. If I turned off Bluetooth in the comm manager and put my bt gps on ready to connect, THEN launch tomtom, it would start up my bluetooth on my phone and then search for my bt gps module. It worked that way... I don't know why.

Hello there,
When I bought my Excalibur(Exc.) 4 months back , I was really interested in multitasking with my Exc. Straight away I thought GPS would be a great plan to work on.
I am in Canada with Rogers. My Exc. was already application unlocked.
For GPS I have Holux M-1000 bluetooth receiver from ebay for $ 25 + $20 shipping
Somehow I wasnt ready to shell out 100 of $'s to buy an application (like tomtom, route66) coz I wasnt sure if thaey would run on my Exc.
So I tried to find applications from torrents and downloaded a few. Unfortunately ntn worked. Tom Tom never worked , route66 worked great but it reported less memory to load 500mb maps and stuff. I was disappointed but then I found this mappin application from Nokia: smart2go.
Coz I am in canada and data plans are very expensive I wanted something which would not use my data.
Smart2go had this feature. I downloaded the app and things worked out like charm.
So this is first ever tutorial to set up Excalibur with Smart2go.
1. Download the generic application for windows mobile from smart2go
http://www.smart2go.com/en/download/
There is a option of download via PC or by SMS. Choose whatever is appropriate.
Note: In the dropdown for device selection there is generic windows mobile 5 edition. No matter if your Exc. has WM6, the WM5 version will be fine. I am too running it on WM6.
2. After downloading and installation you can download maps on your memory card.
To download maps you have to download nokia map loader from http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/maploader
The nokia map loader will download maps on memory card. Two things to take care
a) Before downloading the maps the smart2go application has to be executed atleast once on your device.
b) You cannot download maps on your storage device through active sync. The memory card has to be in a memory card reader.
You can select the map of your choice, download it and then insert the storage card back in your device.
Oh! and maps are totally free!!!!!
3.) Set up your GPS device with your Excalibur.
4) Fire up Smart2go
5) The home screen is easy to understand and to work with.
http://aycu05.webshots.com/image/41724/2006305490328149032_rs.jpg (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2006305490328149032)
6) Once everything is setup, you can go to Extras > Navigation to buy Navigation features. Smart2go will give three days of free trial to new users.
http://aycu31.webshots.com/image/39910/2002641052425238101_rs.jpg (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2002641052425238101)
Navigation plans are as follows :
source: http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/faq/#jump23
==============================================
These prices are examples. The prices can vary.
Navigation license 1 week 1 month 1 year 3 years
Category A 6,49 € 7,99 € 59,99 € 69,99 €
Category B 7,49 € 8,99 € 69,99 € 79,99 €
Category C 8,99 € 9,99 € 89,99 € 99,99 €
Countries and Regions in Category A Navigation Upgrade: Iberia, France plus Benelux, DACH, Italy plus, Alp Region, Nordic Countries, Benelux Plus, British Isles, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Canada, Hong Kong & Macau
Countries and Regions in Category B Navigation Upgrade: Russia, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, South-East Asia, Australia, South Africa
Countries and Regions in Category C Navigation Upgrades: Middle East, Western Europe, North America
================================================== =
source: http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/faq/#jump23
Personally I have used this application for 4 months and I pay $10.99(CAD) for one month of navigation. Thats cheap.
7) Further you can also add voice navigation: from Settings >> Languages
http://aycu33.webshots.com/image/39312/2002681276613960613_rs.jpg (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2002681276613960613)
8) Users also have option of buying city guides which will provide additional pois and stuff
Extras >> City Guides
9) If you do not want to use your data plan while navigating then you can switch off Internet from Settings >> Internet/Wi-fi
Other options include:
Route Options:
http://aycu34.webshots.com/image/39873/2002609395294133785_rs.jpg (http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/v/2002609395294133785)
Map Options
Finally you can search for address, save them as bookmarks, search for pois*, plan a route by adding multiple way points and destinations.
*: Searching for pois will require internet to be switched on
SO.. thats it.
Go to Destination >> Maps and start Navigating.
I know many people already are aware of this whole thing and may be better but this is just a small attempt from my side to contribute to the community.
Forgive me if there are any errors and I will appreciate any corrections or modifications
More detailed information can be obtained from http://www.smart2go.com/en/
and
http://www.smart2go.com/en/help/faq/
please let me know if you face any problem and I will be happy to help.
Thanks and Good luck

Just open the file "qf" on the SD card and adjust the version indicated to the maploader you use and the maploader will download just fine ...
I am downloading right now after facing this issue and editing the qf file.
Cheers!

alternatively you can also download the zip files directly from the server and move the extracted files to the respective sub-folders...

How do you enter addresses, in TomTom 5.2 ?Knowing that the keys are not identical in my keyboard AZERTY and the my HTC 620 screen :
Eg: If I tape z, it’s 1
E is a
S is G...
I’s very hard to enter the correct address. :(
Thank you if you have an idea, any help is welcome

Tomtom detect and work like the old smartphones having only a number pad.
12 Keys : 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,*.#
You have to use multi presses on the number pad. You can enter street...
For eg:
2=ABC
3=DEF
4=GHI
…
It's the only solution, i have find...:o
Other idea are welcome...

I tried TomTom Mobile, Route66, and Garmin XT on Dash. I think non of them is as good as TomTom 6 for PPC, but that's not very easy to use on a smartphone. Among the three, I pick Route66. TT Mobile's input problem is a deal breaker. Garmin XT has display delay problem, it shows I haven't reached a road when I already drove past it for several seconds.

Agreed. Route66 is just easier because it works well and it doesnt have the keyboard issue that tomtom has.
It's probably the most compatible gps software for the dash.

Guten Tag,
How much space do these files take up? And does it include US maps? Are these comprehensive maps, or just major roads?
I take from reading through the posts that it's not really designed for the smartphone therefore the 'fake cursor' program has to be used.
Sorry for all the questions, but trying to find out more about what this entails before going through the process of installing all these .rar files. :-)

Just got a BT Total Broadband Anywhere re-badged HTC620 with WM 6 on it.
BT's helpdesk was vague on whether a Micro-SDHC card will work on it or not - "As long as it is Micro-SD it should work fine".
Unwilling to open the blister pack, does anyone know.
Looking for the challenge of getting Tom Tom working on it :-) which some have succeeded at I read elsewhere.

p.s. While TomTom is nice, it wasn't designed for non-touchscreen devices. It's pain in the arse to use and as far as I know, you have to use a mouse emulator app to even use it. Try Route66 V7 on your S620. It works pretty damn well :)

I had the same problem and I can't find the GPS id to unlok the program and maps.
For me in Brazil the best map are from destinator, but it culden't make it work with my S-621.
The route 66 works fine but the map are too limitade for Brazil. My City is OK but map are a litle old.
I think in try the Gramim becoure we have one great free map project that can be loded with it.

I just tried Garmin XT. AWESOME app! Let me give a little comparison of Garmin vs Route 66.
What's good about Garmin Mobile XT?
1) The memory usage on Garmin is MUCH less than R66. I've missed calls and smses because it uses SO much resources that everything else simply stops working. With Garmin I still have about 10-8mb left while running it.
2) It says clearly the road you will be taking next. R66 does not do this. It's frustrating in downtown areas where I may pass by several streets quickly and to just judge by the amount of metres or yards is tough.
3) Garmin has a nice attention tone. R66 does not even have one. In fact the voice is a bit screechy or really high in treble on R66 which is annoying.
4) The map settings are more customizable.
5) It doesn't take full screen so I can see the battery life, reception etc. Or this could be a bad thing if you WANT full screen.
6) It automatically switches between night and day colours.
What's not good about Garmin Mobile XT?
1) The search is tedious. In R66 you only have to enter a few keywords. In Garmin you have to select the State, the City, the house number and then the street name all one by one. This was pretty annoying because I confess, sometimes I search for locations WHILE I drive and this just causes me to keep my eyes off the road longer. Although it does auto complete possible matches as you type.
2) The map moves by a little slowly. In the latest update they have claimed to make the map redrawing faster but I haven't seen much of an improvement.
3) Sometimes it "forgets" your GPS connection settings when you run the program although it's not hard to set back.
4) The maps are technically newer, but last weekend Garmin XT decided to route me down a road with a dead end- and seemed to think the road extended passed that. I don't know if this is a problem. Maybe it was a one time thing. Although its method of routing sometimes seems a little obscure compared to R66 (when I've tested it going to places I know how to get there).
They both have their ups and downs but the deal breaker was the memory usage. It's unacceptable that your phone not be able to receive a call from resource hogging. A number of times the program just would quit unexpectedly because it went over the memory threshold. Forget about checking your messages while running R66. It might not still be running once you open your messages.

I have been using MapQuest Navigator, it simply is the best choice IMHO. I use it with a b-speech GPS reciever and have had no trouble what-so-ever. Low memory requirements because it only downloads what you need when you need it. It has TTS (text to speech), turn by turn directions, live traffic updates and a bunch more - yeah I sound like an advertisement I know. I tried several GPS applications and not one worked as well as MapQuest Navigator. The only con is you are required to pay yearly to use it (49.99) but again, for all it does.. and you know you have the most recent maps at your demand.. 49.99 is a small price to pay. Needless to say I was/am very impressed with the product.
I drive a tow truck for a living so accurate and up to date maps is a must have for me.

Thanks for the help guys. I was on the phone with TomTom for over 30 minutes and they are pretty arrogant. They asked for my Activation and device codes. after giving it to them they looked for a solution to the problem i described above. After they couldnt help me they said my device (HTC s620) isnt on their compatibility list. I could buy version that might help they said but they cant guarantee anything. That is really frustrating. Corfou, i know what you mean about choosing the other NMEA driver but i dont have that option on my smartphone like i díd on my old pocket pc. Could someone send me the one installation file for the GPS setup (as my old pocket pc one cannot be installed on a SM.Thanks a million
Download and install the Microsoft Smartphone GPSID (http://www.mediafire.com/?idggzm1m11d) program, then you can configure your GPS.
You will have to app unlock your device first (if you have not done so already) That file is located here SurrealNetworks (http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm) along with a bunch of other really cool and free (legally) applications.

So far no problems with the B-Speech (http://www.amazon.com/B-Speech-Keychain-Bluetooth-GPS-Receiver/dp/B0013QZ22G) (key chain size). I get 12 to 15 Satellites out of the possible 20 pretty much everywhere I go. I had a small "hick-up" when I went to pair it after the new ROM install, it would not work on the default port 6 but works fine on 7

Does this require a constant data connection? It sounds like it- being subscription based. I couldn't find an answer on their website.

No, only for the first download to get the route. Once you pick your route (multiple destinations/stops allowable) it connects and downloads the maps, traffic reports and voice prompts. You only need a data connection again if you leave the route and you ask it to recalculate. It will attempt to update the traffic reports while you are in route, but wont if there is no data connection. I took a vehicle to Phila from Lanc the other day 81 miles one way and lost my data connection while in the tunnels.. the program just keeps going using your GPS then it updated once I got to the other side.
If you have an unlimited data plan (like I do) I allow it to querry the server as much as it wants so I have all the updates (traffic).

I use/used it with several GPS programs, TomTom5, Route66, gMaps, live search, and the AstroNav II.. so far no problems. gMaps usually picks up 9 or 10 Sats while MapQuest usually pulls in 12 - 15. Of course gMaps is still in beta so that could change. One app I could not get it to work with was smart2go... it kept thinking my bluetooth headset was the GPS :) .. so I dumped that program.

My guess would be that he's using some form of 6.1. From what I've read--none of the 6.0 ROMs (T-Mobile, HTC, Rogers) support microSDHC cards. I KNOW that every thread I've read about flashing to 6.1 has someone commenting on how it DOES support microSDHC.

I installed the http://nav4all.com GPS program and used it recently to travel to a city that I was very unfamiliar with. It was quite accurate, and prompted me with voices where to turn, no need to even glance at the screen. It succeeded in bringing me to my destination.
On the return trip I diverted twice from using the roads that it had selected, and it readjusted the directions on the fly, still bringing me back to my house with no problem.
However, here are several problems I noticed.
1.) It has a habit of freezing up my HTC S621 (using the latest Kavana ROM)
2.) It's resource intensive, forget using the phone for anything else while running this.
3.) Requesting the map is very, very sluggish.
4.) Inputting addresses is difficult. I even gave up and just entered them as private addresses at the nav4all website to make it easier on myself.
But it's free, so that's the bonus, and whereas things like Google Maps and Live Search are quite difficult (and dangerous) to use while driving, the voice system really helps.
I've never tried any other voice product... tried installing http://amazegps.com, but could never get it working on my phone.
The search continues, as I crawl along with this one for now.
Thank you,

Very very slow in obtaining maps, on WiFi - MapQuest Nav on same search / navigation less then 9 seconds to download route, download traffic alerts and generate map. Nav4All, 33 seconds. No traffic alerts, incorrect route downloaded and crashed when navigation began. The trip. From my home to the gas station less then 8 miles away. On Edge 11 Seconds to do the above for MapQuest, Nav4All... 1 minute 12 seconds!
I guess in this case ya get what ya pay for LOL
Nope.. will stick to MapQuest Navigator :)
Side note: I hate applications that do not clean up after themselves after an uninstall. This program left the folder (nav4all), a dead shortcut and 7 registry keys. I told the uninstall to NOT keep any information/data, I'd hate to see what was left if I had not.

MapQuest Navigator 5.0... best so far out of all my tests. Not free, but it works perfectly. To compare:
1.) Not a bug noticed yet.. no freezes nothing.
2.) Small footprint (resources) I use my phone all the time while this is running, voice prompts work while on a call.. application resumes after call ends).
3.) Requesting maps very fast, typically seconds to download Maps, Route, Live Traffic updates (the program keeps traffic reports comming in the entire time you are in route)
4.) Whole program is very simple to use and information entry is perfect.. the program intergrates itself very well with WM.

I'm probably going to get bashed for this but I love the MS Live on my Dash. It works fast, updates in realtime whereever I'm going (yes I use a BT GPS) and I can lookup pretty much everything from Gas prices to movie tickets right there.
On my old PDA (AXIM X30 624MHz) I used TomTom and loved it, but without touchscreen I just can't see myself using TomTom.
I think MS Live is not perfect but it has awesome potential. As soon as I leave my house I turn it on.

Garmin Mobile 20 is a dash mount phone holder, gps and speakerphone that works very nicely with the excalibur. This comes packaged with Garmin XT software which gives spoken turn by turn directions and accesses the internet to check traffic when calculating your route.
I paid $79 dollars for the package at Tigergps.com. All you have to do is put in the microsd card that is included and it will ask you if you want to install the software. Some of you won't like that you will just have approximately .6 gig of additional space on the storage care for your other data. Some people say you can copy this to a larger sd card and some say you can't. I haven't tried it.
After installing the software I went to the Garmin website and registered the product. I checked to see if I was eligible for a map upgrade and it led me through the procedure to order my free upgrade of 2009 maps for North America. When I received the map cd in a few days, I checked my Garmin data on my Excalibur and found out I already had 2009 maps. So, I sold the cd on ebay for $55. So, my cost went down for the Garmin Mobile 20 to almost nothing.
The speaker phone works very well. The gps sometimes losses the satelitte signals, but all in all I am very happy with the product.
You might want to give it a try.

I still like the product, but the deal isn't as good as I thought. The man I sold the map to update cannot get it to work for his gps. He said that Garmin support said the unlock code was matched to my software and it would not work for him. Oh well, I still think it is a good product for $79. I got a bluetooth gps receiver, a bluetooth speakerphone and a window or dash mount for my Excalibur. The product comes with about six different adapter stubs to plug into your phone. So just one cord going from the Garmin Mobile 20 to the cigarette lighter.

Route 66 doesnt need a fake cursor. Atleast I never used it. it works like charm on my HTC-S621. Never had a problem. Apart from that i used smart2go(now Nokia maps) for a while. U have to pay for the subscription which is $10.80 for one month.

Here is the link, for garmin only, the only gps program I could get to work on my Dash. Follow the instructions carefully.
Mod Edit: Warez is not permitted on XDA first & final warning.

i can verify that garmin mobile xt v.5.00.20 is working on my excalibur. im currently running 3vo's 6.5 winmo rom. right now im using the north america map, and when i go back to south africa i will be using that one as well.
also, if you're curious to know, as a gps im using the holux m-1000 which pairs up great with my bluetooth and usually has around 12 satellites linked up.
