Im in desperate need to find a good GPS program that works with the Dash. My bluetooth GPS receiver came in today but I need to find a GPS program.
I have searched this site, and well the Search sucks and returned about 2 or 3 things pertaining to GPS Software.
Anyone got some ideas?

I am not sure of what are you asking for. What is "bluetooth program" you are referring to? TomTom 6 works on SP.

I won't lie, I've been trying to install several pirated version of it today. And it just doesn't seem to work. The closest of my attempts has been when TomTom opened up then asked for configurations then told me TomTom is not compatible with this device. Sigh. Gladly I didn't go out a buy it before trying it.

And what makes you think that a paid product will not work, just for trying it's pirated version???
I'm no saint, also tried out several pirated GPS software, AFTER I bought R66.
R66 always performed to the standarts, while all the others gave some kind of problem. I succed to make some work, but it's just too much trouble... for me, anyway.
I would advice to question the software development houses, regarding compatibity issues with your device, just to be on the safe, but I don't see why a comercial, legal version would not work correctly.

I can assure you that TT 6 works just fine on Excalibur. Retail product I mean. Certain cracked version also works, but I advice against it since developers deserve to be rewarded for their hard work.

I agree, but you can bet your ass im not shelling out that much to find out it doesn't work. I've tried several TT6 and TT5, and for some reason it says not compatible for this device. I will take your word on it though and take TT6 into consideration with Route 66 Mobile 7.
Vmiguel, do you have R66 Mobile 7 on a Dash? I've been looking at buying this. Also If you do, I read that it comes with MiniSD/SD but the Dash uses Micro SD. Are you able to install from the DVD to micro sd?
Im particularly looking for a good GPS Software that I can download online and pay for. But if I have to I can order it.

I've been trying to locate TomTom6; however, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Amazon says "Coming Soon" -- as does the tomtom.com website. Is this product available in the U.S. yet (European version seems to be shipping, though...)
Also, does the bluetooth receiver included in the package need an external power source, or is it battery powered?
The online materials don't mention compatibility with the T-Mobile Dash specifically...
Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed you could order TomTom 5 from TomTom.com but TomTom 6 didn't have a purchase option.
I already have a bluetooth GPS receiver, so I am seriosuly thinking I might just order Route 66 Mobile 7 WMS.
If you guys know of any other compatable GPS software please post it.

Has anyone tried Copilot Live? I read some reviews that seemed to recommend the product -- and it's a lot easier to find than Route 66.
Also, anyone have some thoughts in general about using a smartphone (such as our beloved Dash) for GPS navigation as opposed to just buying a dedicatd unit?
Thanks!

Here's one more question. Can all of these packages be installed on a Micro SD card and run from there? Or does the main app have to be installed in phone memory? It seems these apps take a significant amount of space (6 Megs for Copilot Live, 16 Megs for Route66, etc.), so it would be a shame to be forced to install them in phone memory...
Thanks!

I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE TO ALL.
TomTom does not work on Smartphone. It installs fine, but then there is no possibility to pick correct com port and keyboard pressing does not correspond properly. :(

You have to try iGO 2006. This is very nice and easy software. Works for me and as original is pre installed on Mini SD, so it should work on any PDA's.
Check there web: http://www.i-go.com/en/
I love it, has lot of countries and even details on Ireland.

I like mapopolis. It has GPS support, street-by-street driving instructions (with voice prompt), business and place-of-interest look up, etc.
So, if you're wondering in and about a different neighborhood, you can click on the businesses and it will give you their telephone number/location, etc. You can also look up driving directions via address (like mapquest) etc.
It's works great for the pocket PC -- smartphone (like the dash) i suspect is so-so. I've used it on the mx220, and without a touch screen it's just O.K.
The cons would be their web site interface. You pay $99 for unlimited downloads of individual counties in regions of the United States. Since a state like California has 58 counties, (58 separate maps) that's a lot of downloading time. They have an option to just buy an SD card with all the maps on it, but the dash doesn't use SD. (plus it costs more).
However the pros: Trial download. (I think 10 days?). Give it a shot, see if you like it, it uninstalls pretty nicely too.

My problem with it is that it looks so trashy, for 30 dollars more I can pick up a nice clean interface and maps with Route 66. But like you said Trial is a pretty nice thing, so I might just give it a shot.

Naw, you're right. It doesn't have the prettiest interface.
I found it looks A LOT better if you change the font to non-bold. It also makes it easier to read.
There is also an option to change the color scheme.

Well, I got it today. I hate to report that version that I have received has problems with keyboard. For some reason when I type in dial pad area i.e. - wer sdf xcv all key presses are recognized as I am typing on the regular phone. All other keys work fine. Now, it says that is compatible with Moto Q and I was expecting to see it work on S620 as well. However, on the pictures they have Samsung n320 with 66 running on it, but it has a bit different screen layout.
Sent email to tech support. Will see what they'll say...

S620 T-Mobile user here. I have a GPS blue tooth unit from my Tom Tom navigator 5 (Treo 650, piece of dodo compared to this 620), could I use the maps from R66 with my Tom Tom GPS unit, or should I just wait until Tom Tom releases map for Nav 6?
Funny thing about my 620, I am in the US (Los Angeles), I slid my T-Mobile sim in to the unit, and I have never, & I mean never, have I seen the 620 display that I am on a T-Mobile network, it usually says CINGULAR or other networks but never T-Mobile, seams odd to me.

Route 66 replied to an email I sent them yesterday and made no mention of the update or problems. I just bought my device yesterday and am looking for a GPS app as well. I have Route 66 for my Nokia e70 and it works just fine. I'm hoping the update does come out soon otherwise I"ll have to revert back to the Nokia for my Thanksgiving trip.
I also saw this morning at www.buygpsnow.com that CoPilot Live is compatible with the Dash as they have it listed. Not sure to believe them so I've sent an email to ALK Support to clarify. I hope to hear from them soon.

you say, that tomtom6 works at your excalibur? i tried and i couldn't scroll down at the bluetooth setup screen. it would only change the volume there.
so i asked the tech support and they wrote, that the htc s620 is not yet supported. I am running tomtom5 smartphone edition now. which is working good. the only thing is, that the keys, where the numbers are situated, are not working asa expected, as he treats them like normal mobile phone keys "2 = ABC; 3 = DEF; etc)
but other than that it's great.

Well my CoPilot Live 6 for Smartphone arrived last night. Not too impressed after using Route 66. And, there are problems. Keyboard works fine, it's the screen that is screwed up. Although they state that it's compatible with the HTC S620 it doesn't display the screen properly in some cases. Like when launching the app the CoPilot splash screen shows up in portrait on 2/3 of the screen. Once open, then icons are too close together where you can't read the text below them unless you move the cursor. On 3D map view which is what I rely on, it displays but the mapping portion takes up very little of the screen. The clouds/stars that appear on the horizon don't go all the way across either. Then there's the information bar at the bottom that you can't turn off to get more of the map to display.
I'm sending ALK an email tonight asking exactly what they were thinking stating that their smartphone edtion was compatible. I do have a question though. Why do they have a Moto Q version that is specific to it? Isn't it running WM5 Smartphone as well? I would have thought that the HTC device would have been compatible with it but their website doesn't point you in that direction.

Thanks for this. I'm new to this forum but have been looking for a GPS SW for my Dash since October. I've got 2 questions about the Route 66 product for WMS5.0
1. Can anybody tell me how well this product works when trying to navigate using the address book in the Dash? I'm curious about any known problems or difficulty.
2. Any current users of this product able to provide a review of the SiRF Bluetooth receiver that comes with this? I'm wondering if I want to buy the whole kit or go with a 3rd party receiver.
Thanks.

For tomtom 5 the keyboard has problems with
wer
sdf
xcv
these keys work like the numeric keypad so you need multi taps to get letters from standard phones
you need to tap the number of times to get the right letter to appear.
eg if you want b then tap the number e twice
d would be the number 3
hope this helps

GMM uses the WM5 GPS "Intermediate Driver" API. The settings for this API are configured using a control panel applet that Smartphones lack ( MS promises an addon soon ). As such, you cannot configure GMM to use a particular comm port. The functionality however exists in WM5 Smartphone amd can be manually enabled using a registry editor as follows...
First setup a comm port for your Bluetooth GPS devices as usual:
Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth.
Make sure Bluetooth is set to "On".
Menu/Devices
Menu/New
Select your GPS device from the list and press Next.
Enter the passkey for the Bluetooth GPS. For example, 12345678.
Next
You should get a message box saying "Your Smartphone has connected".
OK
Next
Check the "Serial port" checkbox.
Done

Menu/COM Ports
Select your GPS.
Menu/New Outgoing Port.
Select your device and press Select.
You will see a COM port that has been chosen for your GPS. For example, COM6.
Done

Now your GPS is set up on COM6.
Next setup the GPS Intermediate Driver environment using a registry editor:

I could not get the GMM app to work with my BT GPS device. The MS Live Search app worked fine once I setup a BT comm port for the device and selected it as the GPS port in the application. I figured that the GMM app needed some similar configuration but was surprised to find that there was no config option available.
After some research I discovered that the WM5 PPC platform had a GPS config option under "Settings" and that MS was planning to provide this as an addon for the WM5 smartphone platform. Due to the lack of GPS configuration in the GMM app I was convinced that GMM was using the WM5 GPS API. On the off chance that the functionality already existed on the smartphone platform and only the interface was missing, I dug into MSDN to find the GPS API. There neatly described was the registry requirements needed to support the service.
A little trial and error and VOILA !

IMO, for the easiest way to do this, I'd download Resco Explorer. It has a 30 day trial, plus it includes a regedit program that makes this really easy. Just be sure you enter the strings to a "T". That darn ":" threw me off :)
(Warning: I think once you get used to Resco File Explorer, you won't be able to go back to the standard one.)

No I am not kidding you. Look clearly at what you posted now and to what you posted the first time there is a big difference. And I am not the only one asking this question. Bittermoron linked the howardforums.com to your post here and they were asking the same question as me.
With bitters help I was able to get it done. But thank you for making it more clear. Just remember where not all registry savvy.
I think the easiness depends on the reg editor you use like bitter was saying. Ill have to look into this Resco Explore

Umm, folks, is there a reason you guys are so desperate to use GMM? Especially knowing your GPS doesn't work without hacks?
Have you guys heard of Windows Live Search Mobile? IMO, LIGHT YEARS ahead of GMM in terms of usability and fit and finish. AND it'll find your GPS both on GPSID (what GMM uses) as well as COM ports. No hacks. Simple. Straightforward. Elegant.

I can confirm TOMTOM 6.0 works great on the Dash/s620 when using the SOTI program during install onto the device.
I am still keeping mapopolis on my device but I like TOMTOM better. Only thing that takes getting used is some of the key mappings are off but that isn't a big deal as it is easy to figure out.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"MaxLogFileSize"=dword:00000C80 << Max. log size in bytes
"OldLogFile"="gpso.log" << Old path and file name
"CurrentLogFile"="gps.log" << Current path and file name (no path = root)

What BT GPS devices work well with the Dash?
What are the cost ranges?

what keys have mapping issues?

No kinks with SOTI, worked great. Basically, let's you view your dash's screen on your pc and use your mouse like a stylus to select buttons.
the 1 through 9 keys (also QAZ keys are unusable) are mapped like a regular non-qwerty cellphone. So the W key on the Dash is interpreted as the 1 key so this would mean pressing the W key cycles through a,b,c,1. The E key cycles through d,e,f,2 etc...
The DPAD is mismapped in a few screens. Instead of moving the up/down selector on the screen, it increases/decreases volume. This happens on the bluetooth comport selection screen. That is why you need SOTI.
And yes, the Maps data takes a huge amount of memory so get a 2GB card.

Is there a way to enter addresses and other information that would require the letters versus the numbers in the number pad without using SOTI? I have SOTI installed and have been able to install tomtom 6 just fine. I am curious about being able to use my device without the need for my computer such as when I am driving.

Hey dont want to sound like the other n00b but I am just a little unclear on weather "BT GPS" is it self a key or if it is a string under "Drivers" or both. I cant add the last three entrys to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\BT GPS unless I create a key called "BT GPS" in which case is it really a string?
this hack may not work for me as I have tried a couple different variations but I just wanted to see if maybe I just have the keys in the wrong place.Using Mobile Registry Editor and Resco Reg Editor.
Thanks for posting the hack.
Dont suppose you can make .reg files for win mobile aye?

FYI
I am using the Tmobile MDA with the TomTom One with the NMEA over rfcomm opentom add-in , works fine with the LiveSearch and TomTom (PPC) software as is.

I like the Rikaline. It has a power switch, can stick to the dashboard of your vehicle, uses up to 8 birds and is easy on the battery.
I found mine on eBay for less that 100, and it's great. There are possible smaller and cheaper, but it's WAAS complient and good to 3 meters.
Doesn't get much better than that for the money.

Application unlocking is still necessary for the new version. I have tried the same registry edits for the new version, but Google Maps did not pair up with the GPS receiver. I have a Visiontac VGPS-700. I can't be too sure if this is a limitation with gmm or with wm6. Does anyone have some suggestions as to where to start?

Just wanted to give everyone an update on this. After applying the same registry edits as with wm5, Live Search works with GPS(select appropriate com port in settings from main menu). It looks like GMM just isn't wm6 compatible yet.

I'm looking for GPS receivers for my T-mobile Dash. I want to use the receiver both for driving and for hiking. I have the following questions.
1. Can one GPS receiver be suitable for both activities?
2. Which type of GPS bluetooth receiver is compatible with Dash? I contacted buygpsnow.com. They said only Garmin GPS 10 is compatilbe with Dash, which is obviously wrong. But at a forum, someone said his GPS receiver is not compatible (I'm waiting for his answer of what receiver he tried). So which type of GPS bluetooth receiver is not compatible?
3. I'm particular interested in "OnCourse Bluetooth GPS Receiver Edition 2", because buygpsnow.com says "Static Navigation turned OFF to improve and offer better real time accuracy and usability for Geocaching and navigation in walking mode". Has anyone used this receiver? I can't find much review.

I too have got tomtom for s620, and i do like it. However as people have said before the keyboard is not mapped correctly, but it is useable.
For satnav i now use Route66. looks much the same as tomtom and in some ways it is better. for a start you get free traffic updates over gprs and then you can set it to re-route you. In TomTom you have to pay a sub for this service. Route 66 has its own POI warning system like tomtom (to warm you of things like traffic cameras) and Route66 starts and picks up gps position a lot faster.
My view is that route 66 is the way to go for the time being. if any needs to know anything about satnav give me a shout.

I had been searching for a free mapping program that had good routing, accurate maps and GPS connectivity. I have MS Streets & Trips, no routing, Virtual Earth Mobile, could not get the GPS to work, and the routing isn't that great.
Well yesterday I downloaded Google Maps for WM5, it works great. I had a little trouble getting my BT GPS to work at first but thanks to people a lot smarter then me it is now working great. I am using the a Tmobile Dash with a Delorme Blue Logger GPS. It works great. You have to edit your registry to make it work my there is a .cab file at the link below that works great on the Dash.

Next setup the GPS Intermediate Driver environment using a registry editor:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"CurrentDriver"="BT GPS"

"CommPort"="COM6:" <------ COMM PORT SETUP ABOVE
"FriendlyName"="BT GPS"
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
pchronos - thanks alot for posting this. For some reason on my WM5 ROM installation, the GPS Settings application wasn't saving any COM port settings that I set, nor the "Manage GPS automatically (recommended)" option. Indeed it was the addition of the registry keys mentioned that allowed these settings to be saved. More specifically, the keys and instructions followed (if no data exists prior to doing so in the registry) will only allow settings on the Hardware and Access tabs to be saved within the GPS Settings application. In order the save the COM Port from which Programs access the GPS, the following registry settings need to be added (included below in registry .reg format):
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer]
"DriverInterface"="GPD1:"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]
-------------------------------------
Now--- for anyone who just wants to be able to get this working without manually entering keys/values, just copy the following text into a registry file, and import it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"IsEnabled"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers]
"CurrentDriver"="BT GPS"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\BT GPS]
"CommPort"="COM7:"
"FriendlyName"="BT GPS"
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer]
"DriverInterface"="COM5:"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]
Change the COM5 value to the COM port that you want your applications to access. Change the COM7 value to the COM port that you set up in your Bluetooth settings.
----------
NOTE: .Fred's free task manager - a small self-contained PPC EXE file - contains a simple registry editor that will allow both the importing of a .reg file into the registry, and modification of values therein. Download here:

CJBS,
Are you saying that the "Multiplexer" entries were missing from your phone ?
What values do you have in the "ActiveDevice" key ?
Are you able to share the GPS device with multiple apps ?
CJBS
30th March 2007, 09:27 PM
pchronos - This actually worked on my phone before I installed a heap of apps on it, so something must have removed these keys. Anyway, neither of the keys existed. Further, when I tried to update any of the values using the GPS Settings application, nothing was saved (ie, when closing/reopening the app, all values were default). Further, in the registry, nothing existed. I don't even have the HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings key, although the GPS app still appears in Control Panel-> Settings. What I was able to determine yesterday, both with the aid of a full reg dump from a Hermes phone, along with investigation of the keys present on a WM5 emulator device, is that with the addition of the keys/values that I posted above, the GPS Settings application was able to at least save the values. Alas, it doesn't want to communicate properly however. I am able to use a GPS program with my bluetooth GPS on its native hardware port, but not on the shared port. Further, Google Maps Mobile doesn't work. I need to do more investigation into what is required.
In answer to your question, there is nothing under the ActiveDevice key. Herein possibly lies my issue...?
CJBS
30th March 2007, 10:46 PM
OK, I finally got it all working. Apart from the Multiplexer\ActiveDevice registry settings missing, there was no driver being loaded. There is an MSDN article which describes all of the registry keys used for the GPS Intermediate Driver, and it is located here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms894901.aspx
When the device boots, the GPS Intermediate Driver\ActiveDevice\@Flags registry value is read (note @ denotes a DWORD value rather than a key), and if the driver is to be loaded, the GPSID.dll file is loaded based on the values in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]. This key also didn't exist in my registry.
Once the device is booted, it is possible to check whether the GPS Int. Drv. has been loaded by searching for GPSID under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active]. If loaded, there should be settings such as:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\45]
"Hnd"=dword:004D59D0
"Name"="GPD0:"
"Key"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\GPSID"
"BusParent"=dword:00032160
"InterfaceType"=dword:00000000
"BusName"="BuiltInPhase1_0_25_0"
(There is no need to add the above settings, as these are set dynamically when the driver is loaded from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]).
Firstly, for this to work, the GPSID.dll file needs to exist in the \Windows folder on the device. Secondly, the registry values need to be set. I have exported in their entirity all registry values on my device that are relevant; they are listed below:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings]
"Group "=dword:00000002

Personally, I didn't need the values under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings], however others are convinced that it's necessary, so I leave them there (they can't hurt).
Once imported, you can use the GPS Settings tool in Control Panel to change your COM ports hardware in/program out.
Other values can be changed to enable logging to a file, or input simulation from a file. Check the MSDN documentation (link above) for details (I haven't tried this).
SO now I successfully have Google Maps Mobile along with some other GPS applications working together successfully!

I managed to get TomTom 6 US working on the Dash, I say somewhat because the keboard doesnt work properly, for some reason TT6 is unaware of the Dash Keyboard and thinks that it is like the old smart phones having only a number pad.
Also the up/down keys are stuck in volume mode and you cant select anything that requires up/down in a menu.
You have to use multi presses on the number pad in order to speed any street names, which is a pain.
Can't select any box that has check boxes since you cant move the entry point up and down.
I also had to install it on a HP6945 and copy the navigator directory over to the dash since the cab install doesnt work.
Last thing, I also had to setup a bluetooth connection on the 6945 set to com6 as you cant use the up/down keys to select the GPS port.
The only place the up down keys seem to work is in the main menu.
Anyone else done anything with TomTom on the Dash? I would love to get it working properly so I can use all the functions.
Thanks

Download SPhelper.Its a virtual cursor that allows you to select options in TomTom6.
I had the exact same problems and although it is an inconvenience using it periodically, it is a lifesaver when I need to select an option.
I recommend you check it out.
If you need help on where to find it, lemme know.
Hope this helps!

I messed around with Tomtom6 on my Dash before. I did get it working with FakeCursor for the screen tap requirements. But it turned out to be too much of a pain to really be useful. Then I tried Route66 and it just works without any of the limitations of Tomtom6. I highly recommend unsing Route66 as an alternative.

Where do I get Route66? is it US based software?
Also, can you do interstate routing? I like TomTom as it only takes 860meg for the entire US and I can route state to state.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"CurrentLogFile"="\\GpsLog.txt"
"MaxLogFileSize "=dword:00000000
"OldLogFile"="\\GpsLogOld.txt"
It seems that despite information to the contrary in the MSDN article regarding these registry settings (see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms889974.aspx), logging of NMEA data is still performed even when MaxLogFileSize is 0. I've changed these REG values such that they are prefixed with an underscore. This prevents NMEA data from being logged to the medium:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver]
"_CurrentLogFile"="\\GpsLog.txt"
"_MaxLogFileSize "=dword:00000000
"_OldLogFile"="\\GpsLogOld.txt"
Prefixes can be easily removed to re-enable logging.

TomTom 5.21 is the best solution for the Dash. I bought Route 66 and used it for two weeks. I went back to TT5 I bought before. Simply the best, so far. Route 66 has big memory problems: it eats aal memory (also the lastest version). TT5 feels 'light' and has more features and a better GUI.

I prefer TomTom5 to Route66 on the Dash because it has more features such as avoid part of route, avoid roadblock etc. Although Route66 doesnt have any bugs related to the Dash, its just more clunky to use than TomTom and requires loads more key presses, and the fact there is no easy way to browse the map is just weird. You need to either choose navigate to or add favourite to see the choose on map button which lets you browse the map.
The only problem I have with TomTom5 is that when typing in the name of the place the 1-9 keys are set up for the multitap you know 1 = A,B,C whereas the rest of the keys on the keyboard behave correctly.
I guess I expected TomTom6 to be a no go on smartphone and I didnt even bother trying it. Note if you try Route66 make sure you get the smartphone version and not pocket pc.

Went to the mapopolis website to check it out upon reading some posts on this forum and when I go there I get this message : Mapopolis has discontinued all consumer sales.
Did they go under?
I also tried the route66 from that link posted in this thread to give it a test run on my T-Mobile Dash. It works, however, the Navigate to feature does not work. It starts calculating and stays stuck there. I have since completely uninstalled it off my Dash, but I did like the program and would purchase it if I knew for sure it would work on my dash. I have heard of copiolt and they list the Dash as one of the devices their software works with. I however like the slightly cheaper cost of route66. Anyone have any suggestions on some of these gps programs, and how to get them to work on the T-Mobile Dash?

Well If I could get route66 working fully on my Dash I would buy it in a heartbeat! When I had it installed it worked fine tracking my location on the roads , the Navigate to feature where it maps a route and gives you voice prompts for turns to get to the destination didn't work. I also had no problems with the keyboard mappings, that part too worked fine. I downloaded mapopolis to try it, but their site is closed for downloading maps. Again, I've hit another wall LOL
If anyone knows any fixes for my situation I'd appreciate the info, I'd relaly like to try a few gps apps to make sure they are fully functional before i fork out the cash lol

Does anybody know if Route66 works with newer version of Holux which is GPSlim 240? I'm figuring out which GPS receiver should I buy to get the most compatibility with different GPS software.

I use a T-mobile Dash and have tested it with Route 66 with the Holux GPSlim 240, it worked perfectly. I am now using Tom Tom 6 and that works well with the same GPS receiver (which fits on my car keyring :D ) aside of a few issues which I would like some help with...
One other issue with Tom Tom 6 on Dash is occasionally the program quits unexpectedly after a while in the middle of naviagation ! Does anybody know what causes this and if there is a work around ? (pressing the enter key quickly relaunches the program navaigation where it quit from, but it is annoying none the less)
Some tips for those wishing to use TT6 on Dash :
- When installing TT6 With your GPS receiver, open as many COM ports as possible in your bluetooth settings so TT6 can search as many ports as possible to make a connection, mine worked when I opened COM7 even though the original port paired was COM6 (COM6 did not work)
- Adjust your dash power management settings so it will not timeout too soon. Basically, I have switched all time out settings to never, otherwise TT6 seems to act weird and grey screens appear after a few minutes.

Did you notice that there are 3 parts to the US-EAST map? I have everything downloaded but haven't tried installing yet... Did you just put the map parts into the same directory on the storage card as the rest of the filed and then install R66 and run it? It's not super clear how to get everything installed properly using the files on page 6 now that i have them all downloaded and ready to give a whirl... thx.

Yes , I noticed the three parts. I wish it was that simple. :)
I appreciate the input all the same. Im just trying to figure out why the NW map works but the East one does not. Maybe I should just move to the NW and be done with it LMAO
The map is a split rar archive, all you do is double click the first archive and winrar will put all three together when you extract. The map then needs to be put in the maps directory and when you start up route66 you choose that map. The installation on the Dash is via a .cab file, you put all the files and folders onto your storage card either via active sync or by using a card reader and doing it manually. With your phones browser, browse to the storage car and open the 2577 directory and click on the cab file in there and that will install route66. Then just read the instructions in the crack dir and that will tell you all you need to do to get the program installed and working. Hope you have better luck than me with it. I really like the interface as opposed to mapopolis, but mapopolis works perfectly and gives ample voice prompts. Something I read copilot does not do in the version for the Dash. That is why I looked at route66, and I like what I have seen so far. I wish the companies like route66 and copilot would have some kind of 30 day trial so I can compare functionality and interface so as to make a more educated choice. But it seems I will be going the route of route66 and will purchase the product first thing come monday. Thanks to the links posted I got my route66 trial LOL. Has anyone bought and installed route66 on their Dash? If so, how do you like it? Does it work properly?

Active sync is fine, i just find it a bit slower especially for the larger files like maps. However, to move the crack .exe and replace the original one put in program files/route66 by the installer cab is a lot easyer with a card reader and windows explorer.
And no insult taken, it is a valid point and no one, including myself, is immune to making simple mistakes from time to time :)
I just wish all of mine were just simple ones LOL

smart2go looks interesting for sure... i think i'll give this a while on my wm6 dash today (will report back).
EDIT - smart2go works great on wm6 from my Dash that part i know (so far at least). This is a very intuitive and ultimately pretty interesting little GPS app here... I've got it working with my Belkin BT GPS no problem. Only thing i'm concerned about at the moment is the pricing structure... if you want turn-by-turn/voice nave you need to "pay to play" in one week ($12), one month (a little more), one year ($120-ish) and/or 3-year ($120-ish also somehow). If you're looking for GPS for the dash though i recommend giving this little guy a spin... all you have to download is one 5mb app and it pulls the maps for you (or alternatively you can use the "maploader" app).
PS - The UI is one of the best/most intuitive i've ever seen. I was rolling around the app NP after just 2 mins with it and no manuals/pervious guidance (even screen shots).

I personally like mapopolis (www.mapopolis.com). They have a free trial on their web site that lasts for 10 days.
It's not the prettiest, no street level views. It's all birds-eye views. But it works well, and has voice prompts. I ended up paying the $99 for unlimited downloads of maps.
It also has nearby business, banks, restaurant, atm, etc. searches... however I found this to be outdated by a few years; maybe 3 or 4.

garmin mobile xt works great on my dopod C720W (the new version only -V4.10)

you have to not only run the maps program on your phone, but also download a small portion of a map using your gprs connection. once you have done this, either remove the memory card and insert it to a card reader or attach your phone to your data cable and try to download the maps again. the program needs to set up some files on your card first before the maps program can install them on your card

Hi all,
I've got a HTC S620. Last week I bought an Adapt AD-300 BT GPS receiver.
I pairde it with my HTC, installed Route 66 and everything worked fine for a few minutes.
Then suddenly, while I was driving my car, the navigating stopped and the spinning windmobile icon appeared. After a few minutes it stopped spinning and Route 66 showed a message that the GPS device was not found.
The only thing that works is turning the HTC off and on again, and only then I can use Route 66 for just a few minutes. After a few minutes I get the 'GPS device not found' message, and I have to turn the device off and on again.
And so on, and so on...
I've also tried Tomtom 5.2, and the same thing happens. I guess it has got something to do with the Bluetooth settings, but I've tried different settings, com-ports (only 2 available, com6 & com7). The only thing that works it turning the phone off & on again...
Is this something that will be fixed in WM6? I sure hope so...
Thanks for your support!

I am attempting to try this thing out before I buy it -- especially after reading this thread. It sounds like alot of products don't work as advertised for our Dash's.

Tomtom Navigator 5 does work on WM6. You only have to disable error reporting in Settings.
Tomtom Navigator 6 does run too, but you need FakeCursor to control it. Search Modaco for it.

2. With TomTom, i can open the software, but can`t found maps from Brazil, anyone know?
3. With Route66, i think i have downloaded a version for Symbian... i`ve to download again a Windows Mobile version...
With your devices, how can you installed the softwares?

check respective software documentation and check where a particular software should be installed.
ideally, youd want to install your software on your memory stick but there are softwares that would prefer being installed memory, hence low memory issues.
i have not tried installing gps software on any other device than an 8525 or an ipaq 6300 so i may be wrong too.

Hi,
I am newbie and I checked some of the forums here and around but the solution still escapes me. I am looking for a GPS software which would work on WM6 Dash. I am travelling both US and Europe and so I need solution which supplies both maps. I have been using TomTom 6 on my Nokia E61, but I guess the TT6 does not work on WM6. So I either have to figure out how to make it work, or find different software. I really like TomTom, I used it since ver. 5, but I need some solution. I am getting little frustrated because Nokia E61 does everything I need except syncing Outlook mail. Dash does everything except Tomtom. My old MDA does both, but has no reception. Can someone make a single device which would do all? :-)
Thanks

Both Navigon and Route 66 are terrible memory eaters. I rely on TT5 for my HTC S620. It is fast, memory efficient and stable. It has by far the best options and readability on the small screen. It has the T9 limitation but that is no problem for me.

Hello,
I'm interested if someone find the solution to make Tomtom 6 usable on excalibur. Actualy everything works fine in version 6.01 except some selections, and very annoying numpad function when writing.
So my question is. Is there a version of tomtom where the keyboard is working properly. Or is there a program to remap the keys (I would better use numbers just with shift or alt pressed together).
I also heard here that best version for excalibur is Tomtom 5.2 is buttons working properly in that version???
Thanks for any help.

I tried installing TomTom 5.2 on my phone with the HTC WM6 rom on it. But now the backlight won't shut off anymore, the way it did in the past. Even when making a long telephone call the screen stays on. This is taking away so much battery power. Does anybody know how to fix this, I googled and found some tweaking in the registry for WM5, but the entries have changed so that one didn't work.
Would be really appreciated if somebody knows the answer so it can be fixed :)
Thanks in advance.
