Assuming you just have a dash, power it off. If you can't get it to power off, just take out the battery and replace. Hold down the left and right "select" buttons. These would be the two buttons with a bar(for example - ) on them. Hold both of those down at the same time and power up your phone. Do not let up on the buttons until the screen goes black and says press green call button.... yadayadayada, and now your phone will cold boot to factory settings. Voila, now your phone is like you never touched it. YEAH!!:)

Before you reset the phone, try taking out the sd card and see if you can boot up like that.

Hey, everybody, I was trying to flash my dash to a new rom, when progressing updating, my computer restarted accidentally and the dash kept showing a white screen as it was showing when flashing, then I restarted the dash, it showed a 3-color screen, I guess that's the info. of manufacture, then I tried to do flash again, it recognized the USB connection but when approached 3% it stopped said couldn't update. Right now the dash can only show the DOPOD scene and after that a Windows mobile 6 green scene and never went further. worst thing is my PC couldn't recognize the USB connection anymore!!
please help>:o

You have to install WM5 back on it and try WM 6.1 again, after you do that. To get WM5 look in the top threads on this forum or ask Mikey1022.

Just cold boot your phone and see if that helps. It should boot it back to the original ROM. Nothing on your ROM has been changed yet. I have gotten the RGB screen, the white screen, the no USB recognition. and that's all I did to get it back to normal.

You said cold boot, is it holding Left and Right soft keys and push Power?
just like normal boot up, nothing special happened, or if I did the wrong way?
Update:
I finally made the cold boot(hard reset) utility running, but unfortunately, it didn't help at all. What I'm thinking is the previous data got flashed but new rom hasn't been placed in where came the accidental PC restarting ruined all the process. The only way that can help is to find a way "push" the OS in my Dash, probably only its company can do it. otherwise, change a motherboard from eBay might help...

Do this. Pull the battery from your phone then re insert it. Then press and hold your camera button while plugging it into your USB cable attached to your PC. If you get the 3-color bootloader screen, then try and install one of your official ROMS that your phone carrier provides. If it installs successfuly, you can try and re-flash any of the WM 6.1 ROMS available.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say, but try this:

1. Hold both soft keys and power unit.
2. Press GREEN talk key.
That should do it.

Just tried updating my dash according to youtube instructions at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_BuN68vclM, with Brightpoint ROM.
Things didn't go so well, at around 9% all the sudden my Dash just turned off and I got a communication error. It had plenty of power (I mean, I followed all the steps). Now it won't start at all, nothing happens. Removed the battery. Did nothing.
Would sure love to have my phone back. Any advice out there?

Thanks so much, that really helped!
I figured out that the main problem was that Parallels (I'm on a Mac) was interrupting the USB connection rather randomly. I was using the most up-to-date version (Which I thought would be best??) but then I read lots of people were having trouble with various USB devices on the latest versions. I downgraded to a build specifically designed to make USB connections work better:
http://download.parallels.com/stuff/Parallels-Desktop-5582.5-Mac-en.dmg
And with that version the ROM update could actually complete all 100%. So glad to have my phone back! Now, the question is... do I attempt the update I was actually trying to install again? :-]>

It may or may not work for you. I've learned when re-flashing *any* device over USB, it's always a risk to do so in a virtual environment.

Ok, so upgraded to kavana's rom and decieded to try ricky's instead. I went through with everything then in the middle of loading the image it came up with an error and it told me to take out the battery and put it back in then turn the phone back on. When it came back on it went to a tri color screen and I tried loading the image. Now it came up with an error 270 saying that the image is corrupt. The phone gets stuck on the htc boot screen and I can get into the tri color screen by holding down the camera button. but I keep getting error 270. Is there anything I can do or do I have to call Tmobile? Thanks in advance.

Turn off your phone, however that may require. Next, hold down both of your soft keys. While holding those down, Press the power button and wait for the phone to power on. Once on and displaying info, release the soft keys. It will show a black screen that should tell you to press the green talk button in order to reboot. Do it. Your phone will shut down and reboot, give it a couple of minutes, it takes some time. It will go to a cold boot configurator mode and reboot your machine to factory settings. That's it. Since you haven't completed flashing your rom, the factory rom will still be there. That's it. Hope this helps. The problem with that thread is that I have to be able to boot the phone up.

Well, I was trying to see if flashing back to an older ROM would fix the phone problem I was having lately, so I decided to go all the way back to the original WM5 ship ROM, but I still had the same problem so I decided to go back to WM6.1 (Ricky's V24). I app unlocked the phone and then started the update process, but a little over halfway through the update errored out and gave me a Flash Failed error message.
Now my phone won't even power on or anything. Is there any possible way to get the phone back into a mode to reflash a ROM onto it or am I stuck with a dead phone?

Have you removed sim, sd, battery and leaved withour the battery for at least one our?
If after this treatment it doesn't start... the fault could be related to hardware crash, happened during flashing..If this was the case the service will be the only solution

I haven't tried that yet, but will try it out tonight overnight. I've tried the two soft key reset procedure as well as holding down the SYM key and connecting the USB cable, both with no results. Hopefully leaving the battery out will correct the issue. Thanks for the quick reply.

you may also try and press and hold the sym key (camera key) while plugging it into your PC via mini-usb. If you get the 3-Color Bootloader screen. re-flash with one of your mobile provider's ROMS a.k.a. official ROM

It looks like I have the same exast issue as the gentleman from This Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377059) which didn't seem to have a happy ending either. Does anyone know of a repair facility that could revive my poor Dash?

Well, I finally managed to revive my phone. For whatever reason it only worked when I tried holding the SYM button down and connecting it to my wall charger with the battery removed. Not sure why it wouldn't do the same with the battery installed or on my computer, but none the less, my phone lives once more. Thanks to everyone for the help. This forum has been a real lifesaver.

If your upgrade is interrupted, leaving you with a phone that won't boot, try this: take out the battery. Put it back in. Hold the "sym" button. Plug usb cable in and the phone sould go into bootloader mode. Now flash your orginal rom.
That's it from me.

Please dont have a go at me if this subject has been covered before :( I have searched this forum & cant find a similar topic.
In this instance, I flashed my phone succesfully with Kavanas WM6.1. Then I stoopidly fooled around with the clocking program seeing how far it would go until it froze. Now the only way to get it to boot up is to take the battery out as none of the buttons work. It will load up to the home page, then freeze again.
I have tried cold reboot (hold L & R softkeys while powering on) & tried to reflash while in bootloading screen....but of course active sync wont work in this mode.
Is this terminal?
Thanks for any advice.............

did the cold boot work? meaning did the cold boot take? did you get the cold boot config screen after you held down the two softkeys + after press send key?
also did you see if activesync will work while your phone is frozen? if so. all you need to do is to remove the .LNK file from windows\startup directory called OMAPClockKeep by navigating to that directory via your PC (again assuming Activesync will connect)

Please can you go thru the cold-boot procedure step by step....I have been unable to find a detailed thread on the subject.
You basically have to hold down the left & right softkeys while poereing the phone on.
Basically here's the instructions:
Have your phone powered off. while it is powered off, press and hold both left and right softkeys. While continuing to hold your left and right softkeys, press and hold your power button down for only 2 seconds (continue to keep holding down the soft keys) If done correctly, you should see a black screen with some white text that says press send (green phone key) to reset , or press 1 to resest or any other key to cancel. if you see that screen then press the key that it says to press to perform the reset. If you don't see that screen, try again, starting with step 1. If you do see that screen and press the appropriate button, it will boot up to the windows mobile screen and hang for awhile, then it should get to configuration screen with a progress bar. This may take 5 to 10 minutes. if it does it correctly, it should then reboot your phone and restore it to factory ( or at least default settings for whatever custom ROM you have installed)

I just went through heck. You guys sorta saved me. I upgraded to Rickys ROM - or tried to anyway - and it nearly bricked my phone - that was 4 hours ago. It was part way through the update and it gave some sort of error - and I did the instructed unplug replug etc and it bricked it and it wouldn't go past the HTC logo - and I had to take out the battery to turn it off. No hard set worked.
I tried all permutations and tips and tricks and everything. Pulling out half my hair and screaming at the phone and nearly throwing it out the window. Finally, I downloaded the service manual and saw how to do the boot to the bootloader - THEN I tried Rickys ROM again - STILL CORRUPT! I must have a bad copy. And then tried Brightpoint - couldn't due to T Mob's crud, so re T-Mobbed it - finally JOY! The thing went past 3% and reloaded the ROM. Now I can upgrade to Kavana!
That was really annoying and scary. But finally successful and no longer a paperweight.

Hi!
Help me please!
Few days ago I installed [ROM] [20282] NRG Rose Rom v1.7 - Remade by Ricky and Stylez "UPDATED".
Everything was ok untill it had a problem with the Homescreen. It was like it lost it. I went back to Settings->Homescreen and the list of homescreens were missing. Minutes later the phone freezed. Had to reinsert the battery to be able to restart it. This happend a couple of times. Even after Hard Reset.
Tired of this tried to reinstall back the ROM.. Did the auto.bat, next next.. entered to the ROMUpdateUtility, next next.. it started installing.. when it was about 3% the phone turns off and and error prompts in the PC saying the connection is missing. THe phone went back the HTC Logo and it freezed there. Tired (again) resolved to do the hard reset. But this also did't work. Tried this many times. Now even HArd reset black screen is not appearing! nor ativesync detects the phone.
Next tried to power off, holded the camera key beside Space Tab for about 3 sec, and then pressed power key while still pressing the cam key. It gets me the Tri COlor screen. I plug the USB in and "USB" appears in the display.
With the USB connected to the PC tried to launch directly the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the NRG Rose Rom v1.7 - Remade by Ricky and Stylez. It gets to the 3% then the phone goes to the HTC logo again and freezes. In the PC an error appeared. It said the "Connection error. IMAGE is corrupted.". Downloaded another ROM (NRG Rose Rom v1.4.1). Repeated the procedure and it's the same problem.
Can somene help me please.... This is very frustating cause I really love this phone.

Downloaded another ROM (NRG Rose Rom v1.4.1). Repeated the procedure and it's the same problem.
Can somene help me please.... This is very frustating cause I really love this phone.
Did you read the bit on NRG's thread about what to do if you have a problem? Something about bootloader and original ROM :D

Finally I downloaded Oficial ROM by ROGERS. Installed and it worked!!!.. ok now Im in peace haha..
But what happend? something wrong in [ROM] [20282] NRG Rose Rom v1.7 - Remade by Ricky and Stylez "UPDATED", my phone or what? Now im afraid of installing that ROM again.. what do you think?

new problem haha.. can't Install new WM6.1 ROM.. I'm stuck with the ROGERS WM6 ROM..
When run auto.bat, it copies the JUMPSPL.exe and USPL.nb, next JUMPSPL.exe runs and I press the (Continue) button. But my display NEVER turns white. I continue anyway but the installation fails and my phone reboots. The same happens with any NRG's WM6.1 ROM I try. Tried removing battery and restarting PC.
I see there is an INSTRUCTION for recovery in case something goes wrong but I don't understand exactly how to proceed.. anyone?

ok me again. MY mistake!! haha my error was that the ROGERs ROM I installed was phone-locked! After installing SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab I was able to install WM6.1!!
ERROR 270 appearantly means the installation cannot proceed because the phone is app-locked.

Exactly it's the 3% error if you flash a ROM my advice would be as soon as you flashed perform a hard-reset :)

Not at all as loadz of people have flashed 1.7 without problems, the ones with problems tend to be sorted by hard-reset...

A hard reset after flashing with new ROM? that sounds strange but ok. MMm the thing is I try to do that by pressing SOFT keys while turning ON the phone but it never gives me the black hard reset screen. is there another way of hard reset or am i doing something wrong?

Nothing strange about a hard-reset after flashing has been the saviour for so many and not just on this forum "would explain but have so many times", you can hard-reset via Settings\Clear Storage 1234
