sorry to share with your shine dude..i've also created some iphone kb like skins and a bunch of others.. these were way back last month i think..
i've compiled em, along with instructions, on this (http://www.airfagev.com/forum_view.asp?msg_id=187499) thread in an another forum.. i just forgot to share em too here in xda-dev..
since your post reminded me about those skins, i decided to add em here on your thread.. hope you don't mind..

also a nice one. But it's only usable when you use different heights settings.. Otherwise it looks very squeezed. (if you want to keep your old settings for the keys)
ytsejam_
11th September 2007, 06:02 PM
height settings is inside the skin.. as the developer said, for some settings to properly take change, a restart is needed..
so, you may need to restart the device after selecting it as your skin for the new size settings to be realized.. after that, placement and other graphics will be properly displayed..
i adjusted the height a bit so that keys (which i added 2 pixels height on each) look more lengthwise, just like the iphone's, and easier not to hit other keys above and below..
i only added 8 pixels on the total height (to make room for the elongated key skins).. i think that doesn't make any big difference..

You are right. i just had to switch the ip to onother and back... Looks good. the only thing is that the 123.. button isn't displayed right ( if i use my settings.ini)
Underwaterdub
11th September 2007, 06:10 PM
...but i prefer my version because i like the smaller buttons. It's easyer to hit while writing fast with both thumbs (my impression)
ytsejam_
11th September 2007, 06:25 PM
that's the only drawback with my skin.. it needs to use the same letter layout setitngs and settings.ini (which is inside the .skin file) included in the entire skin package to make it look right (or the same as the screen shots)..
anyway.. those skins were created just as a booter pack so that those first-time PCMkeyboard users will have a new and cool alternative for a skin.. so they'll be getting used to my layout and settings, even before they get used to the default setting/layout..
(and the layout/letter arrangement, especially on the symbols, was created for the needs of us, Filipino texters/typers)
but if you are used to the old/default layout, or use oyur own settings and lay-out and want to keep it that way, i believe my skin will find it hard to blend in..
well, i have no plans on making any further changes on those skins.. or edit layouts and settings to meet other's needs.. i just posted em to give alternatives.. you can use some graphics from my skin if you want to.. (some gfx on my skin is a lot neater IMHO)..
so i leave the floor back to you.. good day.. and more power making more skins..

Nice skin. With the latest PocketCM Keyboard, the bracket keys [] are corrupting the first line of the second keyboard. Also, any chance you can make the number keys be the same dark gray color as the space bar?

are you using PCMKeyboard 0.7? because there have been reported bugs for [ and ] keys as well as \ keys in that version..version 0.8,i believe fixed some of those bugs..
for those having layout problems with my skins, please check the last part of my first post (on the given DL link)..
i included a FIXED layout version that removes some keys that have BUGS in 0.7 and reordered a little (and added spaces on rows with \ symbols to fit them in place)
i'll no longer edit and redo those skins for they are final.. you are free to use the graphics and edit them yourselves if you want to do minor changes..
anyway.. the DL link seems dead now.. here (check the attached zip file), i uploaded a NEW FIXED Layout especially for PCMKeyboard 0.8..
as i've mentioned, i removed the [ and ] keys because they cause layout and display bugs and the developer didn't seem to fix it yet in the latest version.. this one displays right on any version except 0.7 btw..
good day..

I must be dumb as a post because I simply cannot get these skins to look right when I switch to them. I have tried the skin posted just above by ytsejam_ and the one from the original poster.
After switching to the skin invariably the buttons are not laid out as they are shown in the screen shots. I have tried switching back and forth between SIPS as well as doing a soft reset. Nothing works. See attached screen shots.
I am using the latest version of PCM Keyboard on a Sprint Mogul (HTC 6800/Titan) running WM6...What am I missing?
EDIT: NEVERMIND!!!! I was forgetting to select the correct Keyboard Layout for the skin...DUH!!!. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.

I've added a layout file in the new release of the skin (see first page, "the big one") you can also use this for the small version.
Just copy it to your PocketCM folder...

Ok, awesome job on the large key Iphone layout. Really diggin it!!! Couple of questions and I hope not everybody yells at me for being a Newbe.....
1.) How do I set this as my default keyboard???I have tried unsuccessfully to set it up and follow all of the different suggestion on tene's post. I have an 8125 (Wizard). Maybe I am missing something. When I do a soft reset I must go into a non keyboarded screen(i.e. settings) and change it first thing otherwise trying to change it later on the fly doesn't work. I want my change to stick until I change it manually even after a soft reset.
2.) The blue field at the bottom with the keyboard icon...With this field active it really take up a lot of my screen with the keyboard. I would rather make the letter keys taller if I am going to have to give up that much room..
3.) Making keys taller, how do you do that????
Take it easy on me and use lots of lube....Remember I am a newbe!!!

there's no support for keyboard changing because of the difference of the spacebar layout. You can change the layout as long as the size for the buttons isn't changed..

How dare you accuse me of Photoshopping the VGA version..... I used The GIMP.:D
Yes, its a quick and blurry upscale just to make it usable. I could easily redo each png file in the new resolutions, but i didnt have the time right now. If you want to try, just rename the .skin file to .zip, and unzip it. There are 14 png pic files and 2 bmp files. Redraw each at the same resolution as the VGA versions (or double the height/width of the originals) but without the blur. Resave, rezip all the files, rename back to .skin . The hard work is in the settings.ini file in the .skin file, and the separate layout.ini file that Underwaterdub made. Leave those alone if you use the one from the VGA version (I slightly modified some fields from the original to properly space the new higher res pics and to have it use a larger font for the keyfaces.)

Thanks, i'll try this later.
Do you think it would be possible to get bolder letters in CAPS soon to make it look nicer?
EDIT: Wow, I didn't know that the iphone did this:
Although you don’t see it with your eyes, the sizes of the keys on the iPhone keyboard are changing all the time. That is, the software enlarges the “landing area” of certain keys, based on probability.
For example, supposed you type “tim.” Now, the iPhone knows that no word in the language begins timw or timr—and so, invisibly, it enlarges the “landing area” of the E key, which greatly diminishes your chances of making a typo on that last letter. Very cool.

You simply add a new line of code beginning with keyboard_layout_4=
Then you've got to add \4 somewhere in one of the first three layouts.
for further knowledge see also the forum at pocketcm.com. There is a nice manual for costumizing the layout..

Well, Underwaterdub created the layout, which combined with his graphics , is what defines this iPhone looking skin. All I messed with is the key_row_height and key_row_width which are doubled for VGA. Tene's coding in PCMKeyboard handles the rest based on the settings.ini in the .skin file and iphone.layout (or iphone_vga.layout which has my height mod. Both are actually .ini files.)
According to TENE's site, you can add a settings.ini file to the application folder, and all settings there will override the skin and layout (it is loaded last). Use this to test your layouts without having to uncompress then rebuild the shin each time. (You may need a soft reset after every try.)
The guts of the layout is the keyboard_layout_x and symbol_pad lines. The keyboard_layout_1 thru keyboard_layout_3 define the keys for lower case, upper case and numerical shift keys. This is just the list of letters to display, each line separated by "\n". There are also special keys defined with a slash, like \B, \N, and \M. See more details here at Tene's site (the appl author). (http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?14,772)
The symbol_pads are the cool ones. They define what is displayed when you hold a key (like when you click and hold the space bar.) The format is the letter that you should "click and hold", a comma, then the keys to display. In the iPhone_layout the line "symbol_pad=a,aäÄ" says if you click and hold the "a" key, the foreign language versions will display.

I am trying to install it on a HTC 8125. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

just unzip the files from that zip and copy it over to the Pocketcm folder under program files directory.
One issue I have is that when I'm switching between symbols and letters or caps and letters, the size of the keyboard changes and some buttons get ocerlapped by the previous "page"... for example..when i switch from symbol to letters, I can still see the "=" sign from the symbol page. (This is concerning the "bigger Iphone" skin.

New Version at Page 1....
Tell me if you like it...
Even bigger buttons? How much bigger? Post a screenshot. I want to know if it is worth "photoshopping" another scaled up version for VGA.

I've posted a screenshot already. The buttons are just a bit bigger. You can see the difference by comparing the two screenshots at the first Page.
So i think there's still need for a VGA version.
Do you photoshp the Keys yourselfes or do you use pics from the iPhone?

Nothing fancy. I just take your pics and resize them to double the width and height. I dont have a hires pic of iPhone keyboard to do what you suggest.

I took somewhat more care in scaling this up to VGA. I took Underwaterdub's suggestion and used a pic of the iphone to make the special keys wherever I could (you will notice some keys look different, not just scaled up). Still needs some tweaking, but it is better looking than my other VGA attempt.

Which screensize do you have? Did you use the VGA version from the post above? Then try the QVGA version from first page.
@ all: there's no need to do a softreset!!!!!
just switch to another input method and back after you've chosen the new skin.

I have tried to follow the instructions on this thread for modying the layout. My goal is to switch the Z,z with the Y,y and add back Caps lock. I am totally running into a block here.
Could you please please layout a step by step instruction list on how to mod these? I am such a newb that I can't seem to figure it out. I have tried to change the name of the .skn file to .zip and that works. I the open the .zip file. Inside that I can see the file names you reference but when I double click on the .png file I just get the back ground color of the button. So, next I tried extracting the .zip file to see if that was where my issue was and still same thing. I have had no success trying to change the "iphone.layout" to a .zip as metioned in one of the posts. What am I doing wrong?
Please a step by step instruction of how to mod. BTW, I really like the the Bigger Iphone look. Makes it a lot easier. Will there ever be a vibrate function?
Thanks,

Yea, I changed it from Happy Tappy keyboard back to PCM keyboard. I downloaded this skin and put it in the PCM keyboard directory and loaded it from the input settings after changign the SID to PCM Keyboard...

THANKS A MILLION. I still would like a walk through on editing. B/c I would still like to add back in the caps lock option.
What I mean by vibrate option, is the ability to have the phone vibrate on a key press. I have a program that does it with the standard phone app. It just gives a confirmation buzz to let the user know the button was pressed.
It may not be necessary.
Thanks,

Well, this is embarrasing...
I downloaded the PocketCM Keyboard 0.10 and installed it on my HTC 8125. The .cab file, created the PCMKeyboard folder with some .skin and a dll file, so far so good. But the application itself wont work. I do get the option though of changing the SIP method, but when selecting the PCM Keyboard, the setting has no effect nor its maintained as default input method. Any ideas?
I am using Windows Mobile 5.
Thanks again, and I can't wait to get to see the iPhone skin on my phone...
Regards, :)
Well, it turns out that I have the SPB Menu installed and was creating conflicts with the pcmkeyboard. What I did was to move the spbmobileshell file from the Start Up folder. Then softreset, swithed to the pcmkeyboard, placed the spbmobileshell file back and voula! It is working now.
I will try to add spanish characters to the keyboard...,
thank you all and congrats, great work!

I've had similar problems. what you can try is to uninstall all versions of PCMkeyboard and then reinstall v10 again. This worked for me. (the v10 doesn't uninstall the older versions by itselfes)

So add "www" to your dictionary: type www, press the suggestion (was probably) slide down, until you select the +www and now it's added, the good news is that the word is really added to the candidate so typing "wew" will suggest "www" and of course it's persistant, and updating the keyboard won't break it.

You won't hit the buttons better with larger keys because the area for hitting the keys is the whole square and not just the visible button. After my opinion you can hit the keys better with a bit smaller buttons cause you can differ better what to hit.. (just my experiences..)

Try Sipchanger 1.0. It can be found on page 4, post 34 of this thread. I have an 8125 (Wizard). It works great for me. I have to tell you that the first time or 2 it didn't seem like it did much help, but after i figured out that after loading it you must changer you sip to the keyboard of choice, actually use it, set it as defualt in sipchanger then after a reboot it works. You may also have to install it more than once. I have seen a couple of posts where people had to get it to work. But, once it sticks it sticks.

Anybody interested in Landscape view with larger buttons??
The current release 4.0 has quite small buttons in landscape view. This is necessary to avoid the buttons under the shift, number, enter and backspace button to stick out a bit of these pics. It looks better as the keys themselfes are concerned, but with the negative side of pieces of the grey buttons sticking out of the side of these "special" buttons.
If anyone's interested in this I'll be happy to post it.
Besides I'm missing a bit of a feedback to my current release. It was pretty much work to get the layout the way it is in the current release.. So if you like it, pease post your opinion.
At least the feedback is what keeps me investing my time in this project..

Master Underwatertub,
Could you look at the size of the keys at this thread. The one labled Iphone Skin. I have been using yours primarly but I noticed the layout size is about 40% larger and portrait and helps with my fat thumbs. I can even reach the "P" on my 8125 9 out of 10 times on first shot. I like your smilies etc better and you seem way more responsive.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330525
Edit:
Also, what do you think of a predefined text field on press and hold on "return" button? Example: Hold down return key gets you a pop up with "yes. no. call me. running late" etc...
Thanks,

Hi arro,
you must download the iphone_bigger_3.8.zip,
and extract 2 layout files to your PCM folder in your PDA,
then tap the arrow up just beside the keyboard icon select options,
you will see Input method, please select PCM Keyboard then tap Options,
in the Keyboard Layout select iPhone_smilies_US.

Ok, I'm a dumb ass. I don't see from the entire thread which to download the latest and greatest with everything including the landscape working version. I have AT&T Tilt (HTC 8945) with WM6.0.
I am currently running iFonz / HTC Touch FLO. But I think I would like to try this. I will also donate like I have for the 2 above softwares afterwards for all your hard work.
Thanks.
