I'll have to completly rebuild and recompile the ROM. I found fundamental error. It will be done tommorow I suppose.

I also noticed the problem with battery charging + the previous implementation of Internet Explorer without zoom out option.

Piotr... If you are not aware about it, you can make a backup with sprite backup and restore it to the new ROM that you upgraded to, without any side effects. I am telling you, in order for you not to spend hours on re-installing applications after every ROM upgrade you do. :)

No... SRS application make bass and treble stronger. To be sound with good quality level of sound is set lower. In ROM without SRS level of sound can be set on full.

Upgrade to WM6
1) take PDA to PRE-BL mode (contact+itask+power and then reset after unhold this buttons push calendar)
2) run hpRUU.exe flash utility
3) take PDA to FORMAT PS mode (calendar + messaging+power and then reset and hold these buttons, first unhold the reset(after 2 seconds) and then the remaining buttons)
4) that's all


Downgrade to WM5 from WM6

I wish this was so easy :) . I read through all the forums and have tried everything, on a Vista PC on XP laptop and it just does not work. If I run a of the HpRUU I get the notice that my ROM is some gibirish (check the image I attached in post #499) and language is unkonwn and it cannot continue.

I tried the Universal Bootloader, and it just stays at 0%. I dont care what ROM I load, but I am not able to load anything.

Do people have any other ideas or tools I am missing.

I know I am getting in the PRE-BL (even though I have a white screen) as after I press (itask+contacts+reset) and then plug in the usb cable, and then press the calender and I get a indication from my computer that a HP usb device has been installed(in XP I hear that usb pop sound).

Help would be appreciated. I have done ROM upgrades on my HTC phones(wizard, typhoon) but first time doing it on Ipaq.

Tommy_adsl: I tested problem with charging and I have it with all Your versions and Yurrix (made by kichen) :(
Problem exist when process charging of exist longer then (approx) 1-2 minuts...

Hi,
this is what I did for upgrading my hx2795 to WM6

a) Hard reset your device, and remove SD or any SDIO card you use.
b) Sync you device with your desktop
c) Get in to the boot loader mode
d) Connect your cradle cable with your desktop pc, not you can see "USB is connected" message on your Ipaq screen
e) Press the calendar button for 2 / 3 seconds, now you can see "USB" message on your Ipaq screen.
f) Run HPRUU exe file on your desktop pc and follow the instruction in your screen.
g) Your Ipaq will begin flashing and it might take 15 or even 20 minutes so be patient or get yourself a drink !
h) After successfully flashed your device, do a hard reset again and your device will be ready for use and will have WM6

and for Hard Reset Press Calendar, power and message button. While still press those button, lightly press reset button with stylus.
and for Bootloader mode Take out your ipaq from the cradle. Press contact + itask button + reset button.

My device (ipaq hx 2750) in working good with WM 6.0 (5.20.00 H eng from 4PDA)... it's very strange..... but I'm sure that in WM6.1 must be some bug.....:(

Now I have WM6.0 5.20.00H eng [CE OS 5.2.1437 (build 17944.0.3.1)] again. There is one bug with messanger. I reinstalled it from *.cab and now is ok .
But in those WM6.1 versions there is some error.... :(

If you are able to boot to PreBL mode and PC is able to communicate with it, that's your pda is OK. It's not bricked. You are able to flashing.

Officialy it came with a ENG windows 2003 SE ROM. But now i cant boot up my ipaq it does nothing only thing is does is boot into Pre-BL: 1.00.02 mode.

But now i'm thinking maybe but i'm not sure i have flashed is with wrong file maybe russian perpahs but that i doubt alot. isn't there a method to bypass the language check just to flash a rom. even russian is better than nothing :)

If you are in bre-bl mode, you'll see nothing on display (white screen).
Maybe that's the reason.
Use following steps.
Hold Contact+itask+Power. Push reset (still holding the buttons) and after 2 seconds unhold these buttons. Then push callendar and until that connect to your craddle (you must be connected to AC and to USB).
Until that run hpRUU.exe

I had the same... I flashed Russian ROM and I had problem with coming back to english. There is way to repair it but You must do same trick. If You use bootloader mode You can upgrade directly form WM 2003Se to WM 6.0.

Man, i'm sure getting freaked out right now. I put the ipaq into bootloader mode, and used de ruu from the HP website because the one from the download here tells me error with activsync.

So when using the ruu from hp i can start the update, just before i click update i change the rom (change name to OLD en rename de wm6 rom to the old filename) the update goes well i also see Update END en when the screen on my pc tells me 100% the ipaq disconnects and does not start up again. it wont respond to anything.

even ps-format nothing, pre-bl mode nothing i now removed battery because often after i replace battery then i can go into pre-bl mode again. little bit odd isn't it everything went wel but it wont turn on after the flash.

At the end of flashing You must perform hard reset: calendar+messaging+Power ON (when display is black) reset whole...... and next on display will be info: formating.....

After flashing ipaq must perform restart and have blue (HP) screen. On computer screen instalator "speak": gratulation...etc

I just brought the IPAQ to wm5, and later today I shall upgrade to Samz's ROM. While I was going through my computer yesterday I found out that I had upgraded using some _READY rom(must be russian rom) and that got me into the mess. It was not Samz's rom(initially I thought it was that).

Shall let you know how the upgrade from wm5 to wm6 goes.

if you have Digital Sign Mismatch error, try to flash the device in WHITE bootloader screen. When you get there, press calendar button. you will see nothing on your screen, but the flash should work. cheers.

yo, and BTW it has nothing to do with antivir or so. there is just a difference between your device flashed ROM and ROM you actually trying to flash in there.

Thank you tommy_adsl, your rom is great. I have installed it to my hx2410. After installation, the storage rom left is about 12.5M, about the same as my original PDAVIET version and it seems a bit faster.

A small question is: is your version 6.1 or 6.0 as it says Classic 6.0 but it has the Mobile Office 6.1?

So far, the Window Live, Messenger, email etc. works great. I will have to test this rom more thoroughly this weekend.

if i want to open an mp3 from the file explorer i get an error about certification. But if i open the mp3 from out Windows Media player, then it wil play without errors.

I think I got to the white bootloader screen with (contacts+iTask+reset, then calender) but the screen eventually turns completely black and I get a '503: activesync error, could not communicate to the iPaq with Activesync' when I run hpruu.exe.

Edit: When I get it to the bootloader screen and attach it to it's cradle, what does it show up as in Windows Device Manager?

For disassebmly nbf files I use hx2000 tool to unpack nbf to nba. Then you need to use prepareimgfs utility and then viewimgfs utility. This lastone utility dump the ROM files to \dump folder ....

Tommy_adsl: SRS could be but more important is to be level of audio (inside of OS) set on max. I don't use SRS and off it but in prvious ROM's with buildet in SRS, level of audio isn't set on max... and it make me blue :(

I use my PPC to watch video over my network. With plugged in headphones, this is no issue. It seems there is a radio conflict. Is it possible the 2 radios are on the same chipset and can't handle the traffic? Is it radio interference from the 2 streaming at once? Is there anything I can do to rectify it?

Yes, using BT and Wifi this can cause interference in BT (and may slow down wifi tx rate) because they use the same frequency band (2,4 GHz) but they use diferent modulation technique.

I've got an hx2490 (english language) and i am trying to update from WM5 to WM6.

I tried all existing version of Roms and HPRUU.

My actual version is WM5 and 1.00.00.H and i was able to find out that SP42408 is a working version of the HP-RUU utility which my Ipaq likes.
SP42402 and SP33003 don't work.

But a lot is unanswered.

Since the HP Website is a total mess, here is what i found out myself about my hx2490 :

Pre-BL Mode is:
Contacts + Itask + Reset

And it doesn't go to a complete white screen, it is the same screen i see when i do a soft reset with my pen. But it says Pre-BL mode.

E-Boot Mode is:
Contacts + inbox (Email) at the same time.


Battery of:
If i push Calendar + Itask + Reset (2-4seconds) i hear a click and the battery
is switched off. It has to be switched on the same way.
(so no hard reset here).

A propper hard reset (Formatting PS) is done this way:
Calendar (press+hold) + Power (press + Hold) +Email (Press + Hold) + Reset (6 seconds) + Release calendar + release email + release power + release Reset (Answer of HP support) (don't know if it can be achieved easier.. but this procedure works)

I use windows Xp prof and Activesync 4.5

I realised the the SKU error messages are related to the different language versions of the "HPRUUxxx.dll" file, where xxx stands for ENG, GER, JPN,RUS or
else. These can be fixed with proper language files and entries n the ini file.

Here my questions!
1. Since the SP32408 HP-RUU sets the IPAQ alone in correct Eboot mode,
is there a difference when i do it manually. Without doing so, i was able to flash the Ipaq from 1.00.00.H to L and back.
But when i try like said (taking tommys WM6 image and renaming it while flashing), HP-RUU crashes or i get the "digital sign mismatch" message on the ipaq.

2. When using tommy_adsl's setup (uncompressed directory and using as is, i also get that message, and on the PC i get the message
" RUUclientdevice.dll could not initialize the device"
Did i overlook something here regarding this?
The HPRUU utility msut be ok and the "Auto Flash mode" also, because like said i was able to flash down- and upwards.

The "Digital Sign mismatch" error seems to be a result of information in the wm6 image file, and the HPRUU utility.

I tried almost all versions in all combinations....Any ideas?

1: WM5 1.0.0.L fresh loaded first (Off the CD)
2: then download:
This will get you back to factory default for hx2XXX series ppc w/wm5
Version: 1.00H (17 Apr 2006)
Operating System(s): Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0
File name: sp32408.exe (29 MB)

3: Rerun the hpruu from your wm5 1.0.0.L and progress to the update/cancel page then STOP!
4: rename the nbf file in SP32408 to the same nbf name in the WM5 1.0.0.L folder and overwrite this file (you may wish to keep a copy of the original nbf file)
5: Press update
6: Wait to flash - PS Format afterward (look back on page 7)
time to run another update - go through steps 3 - 6 again with your WM6 nbf file instead.

Hi All,

I'm trying to upgrade my HX2490b to WM6 but with no luck.

It came with WM5 ver 1.02.00.H. ENG (same bootloader version)

When I put it in the cradle , it get's AC power.

When I enter the White Screen Boot loader Mode , put it back in the cradle,
hpRUU gives an error that my PDA doesn't get any AC power.

When I push the Messaging button , it reboots to normal mode , and it get's AC power again. :confused:

USB charge is disabled.

Tried different versions of hpRUU , all the same.

Does anybody have an idea what's wrong ?



Worked for me. HP Ipaq hx2490b shipped w/wm5 1.02h

Hi Ben, I used you guide to flash a hx2790b to WM6 but it didn't work.

I am stuck in the HP iPAQ Pocket PC screen and I have the 1.00.00.H ENG boot loader.

Can you help?

I would like for someone to share the same ROM as well. I've never had a chance to try it yet, I would like it for my collection and as something for me to flash to my device yet again :D

Check my website out, many Roms for 2000 series PPC. Link in my signature. They all have their own bootloader that comes with it and was tested.

That's the same as mine.

Have you tried setting battery to do fast usb charge and remove power cable from cradle and see if this works?

I have ipaq hx2795,PC canceld upgrade at 50%, and ipaq lost info about model, language, now i can't finish an upgrade or return to previous version, is it possible to fix it? :(:confused::eek:

I WAS GETTIN A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH ERROR 503 THING :s
but the simple solution was installing in XP...
i have VISTA X64 BUT DRIVERS WONT WORK FOR ME
