Hy Guys, I was looking at the thread in the forum, I need a WM6 ENG Rom for IPaq hx2795 that really works. I can pay by PayPal, let me know who has it or can generate it. I am really tired of WM5, it is very slow and freezes all time. Tks.

Maybe to give a try to kozhura's AKU3_52_hx2000 (WM 5.0 English) for IPAQ hx2000 series. I tried it to my hx2490b and is faster than the original. Look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326214&highlight=hx2000
I think works for your device, and someone allready try it.

This wm6.0 also has the same BUG of battery drained by automatic active sync running.
ABOUT A2DP:
I think someone here must contact Khozura, he successfully make a2dp worked on hx4700 BT either on WM5.0 & WM6.0 by special patch cab.
Please someone here who knows Khozura ask him to make a patch for hx2000, thus we can enjoy a2dp.
Please..please....:)

Hi all, I put it in my hx2795, the A2DP does not work, the fingerprint reader does not work, the TCPMP sometimes work and not with AVI and does not work with WMV.
I can not see the contrast and error reporting tools, I saw a post where the developer said it is a case of editing the registry but does not say where...
The boot at first time did not work I was in panic, after that took out the sd and cf, drained the battery and retried, it booted but I am afraid of rebooting it again...
I did not try Windows Live and sync calendar, hope it works...
I have tried other tools (excel, word) and it worked well.
I am not sure this ROM is stable yet, any sugestions ? should I try reflash it back to WM5 or there is anything I could do to minimize these problems and keep the WM6 ?
Please help.

OK,
I am having the same hx2795 and I found the following
a) Active Sync is working, When I tried at first time it didn't work. After I did a hard reset then I enabled "Advanced networking" from the "USB" settings menu then it worked
b) Sync over Exchange server working fine
c) WiFi is working, I checked with WEP security
d) Bluetooth is working but A2DP is not working When I tried "High Quality Audio Profile" it says authentication failed, I never see it is asking me for the pass key, so I guess that may be the problem
e) TCPMP works fine for FLASH and AVI movies, WMV does not work because WM6 uses a higher version of codecs, so you have to use WMP or you need to replace the WM5 codecs, search through over the forum you will find a solution
f) Finger print authentication works great.
g) Windows Live and messenger is not working, it says there is no connectivity and I don't know what is the deal. But IM+ is working just fine
h) You can install Finster-WM6_RDP.cab as a Termial Service client, it is very good than the inbuilt RDP client in the original HP ROM and it allows you to connect services that use custom ports
i) ROM seems to be stable and I don't have any problem with other functionalities atleast untill now

Hi,
even I don't see the contrast and error reporting menu, so I guess it might be work for some other hx2000 series and not for hx2795, or it may be some registry hack, I don't know :(

a) Hard reset your device, and remove SD or any SDIO card you use.
b) Sync you device with your desktop
c) Get in to the boot loader mode
d) Connect your cradle cable with your desktop pc, not you can see "USB is connected" message on your Ipaq screen
e) Press the calendar button for 2 / 3 seconds, now you can see "USB" message on your Ipaq screen.
f) Run HPRUU exe file on your desktop pc and follow the instruction in your screen.
g) Your Ipaq will begin flashing and it might take 15 or even 20 minutes so be patient or get yourself a drink !
h) After successfully flashed your device, do a hard reset again and your device will be ready for use and will have WM6
and for Hard Reset Press Calendar, power and message button. While still press those button, lightly press reset button with stylus.

You must use a different RUU(for my hx2490b is sp32408) and maybe its necessary to flash the device first with this rom. I don't know for sure cause I did like this for the aku 3.5.2 wm5 rom and after the wm6 became available. But the way is to begin the prosedure from original hp RUU and when pass the checking to replace the original nbf file with this of wm6 rom(you must rename this file to the name of the original. Try to search in 4pda.ru(its russian) with to found if you can use sp32408 or some other original Hp rom(I think must have 1.0.0.0_H bootloader version and not 1.0.0.2_H)

if you try and flash from 1.0.2 H to 1.0.0 H it will go image low and crash, i have found the way to back flash it though :)
press contacts + itask + reboot, the screen will go white and stay white, now press the calander key, and windows will beep to say device connected, it will then not know what version, it is flashing from - to, and will allow a backwards flash :) this is at least the case on the HX2790B Series :)

May I ask you all two questions? first, Could I just flash my 2490b to WM6 followed by the instruction above!!! Next, the language of my 2490b is CHT, does it matter with what language you have now?
Here is some informations of my ipaq 2490b,
rom:1.02.00H
Os version: windows CE 5.0
Bootstrap version:1.00.04
Bootloader:1.02.00H
Language: CHT
Country Id: AB5
Thanks a lot!! And waiting for your replies!!!:D

Hi,
I finally managed to upgrade and overcome the language mismatch error using my official WM5 upgrade. I started the official upgrade and after the verification had been done by the upgrade utility (and PRIOR to pressing OK for upgrading) I exchanged the ROM files (renaming the WM6 rom file to match the WM5 file expected by the upgrade utility).
The upgrade itself worked fine but after that the pocket pc wouldn't start. Doing soft or hardreset, the progress bar (normal and/or PS formating) takes hours to reach 100% and afterwards it just remains like that.
Did anybody manage to upgrade an HX2410 ? I don't read any russian, but as the Thread-starter on 4PDA also has a hx2410 I thought that the ROM was compatible.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi,
just try it. You might run into an language mismatch error as I did. Have a look at my post just above to see how I did overcome this pb.
This said, my upgrade didn't work. I don't know if that was due to my device not being compatible (HX2410) or due to the way I did the upgrade.
Also to be noticed that I almost bricked my device. The only way to get it back working was downgrading to WM2003SE. Even the original WM5 upgrade didn't work (gave me an Invalid device SKU).
Good luck.

obviously the HX24xx and HX27xx are behaving different. On my HX2410, it doesn't matter whether I'm in EBoot Mode (Contact+mail+reset) or Pre-BL Mode(Contact+itask+reset), I still get SKU and language errors (with the Calendar button being pressed to switch to "USB" mode).
The only way for me to flash is doing a "last minute" ROM swap. However I wasn't able, up to now, to get WM6 working. It flashs ok, but gets stuck on following Hard and/or Soft-Reset.
Also, the only way to get my device back to live afterwards, is to use the original HP WM2003SE downgrade that came with the WM5 upgrade CD. Other WM2003SE and WM5 ROMS won't flash.
Bye.

you have to do a Clean boot. to format the PS or it wont boot wm6, thats calander + contacts + power + reset hold all for 2 seconds and release and it will then format the PS

I believe hard reset+PS formatting is the key step.
I've managed to flash AKU's 3.52 WM5 on my hx2110 by swapping .nbf files and flashing from Pre-BL (flashing from Eboot screen didn't work). Seems that AKU firmware loaded OK, but now I'm stuck same as LuMe96... except that I can't flash it back to previous versions! Even tried WM2003SE original SKU (italian). No luck.
My best chance is that AKU ROM is just about to work and I'm only missing the Persistent Storage formatting, after which everything should run. On hx2110 hard reset is performed by pressing calendar+itask+reset for a couple seconds... I'm almost sure I've done it properly, but after this (or after a soft reset or a power-on, it doesn't matter) I only get a sloooow progress bar that stops at 100%.
Am I looking at PS format process? (how much should it take to complete?)
Or I've yet to perform the PS format and therefore the startup fails?
And last question, how does a PS format look like when running?

Why should everything look so complicated? :-) A look at hp.com helped me through this.
Besides soft and hard reset there is also a CLEAN RESET. To activate it on hx2110 I had to push contacts+messaging+power+reset.
How do you know your PS is being formatted? Because a "Formatting PS" label is clearly written in lower left corner of the screen...
Now let's see if I can progress towards WM6, which was my original goal.

I'm very disapointed because I can not succeed in flashing my hx2790b (FRA) with a WM6 rom image.
I've tried all methods describe here without any success... I've had all error message "Invalid SKU", "Digital Sign mismatch", "Invalid Language", "Low version" etc...
And when I'm on white screen to downgrade, hpRUU tells me it can't speek to ActiveSync... Argh !
Please help with a clean tuto...

Anyone knows how to have the modem general settings back ? Any other application I could use to configure it ? And the contrast application, is there a patch or registry I could use to activate it ? Is every thing working fine ? Did you test A2DP ?
Also Contrast application will not work because 2795 hardware doesn't support changing the contrast. I am not sure about the bluetooth modem :(

Hi Beneyre,
I've tried that already. Actually, I flashed the official WM5 upgrade I bought from HP (my device came with WM2003SE). After that I did a clean reset to have the "PS" formated. Now with this fresh, clean and working WM5 on the device, I tried to flash the WM6 Rom (flashing worked fine). Afterwards another clean reset but here formating PS takes about 30 mins and at the end (progress bar at 100%) it just stays like this (i.e. HP logo screen with formating bar at 100% and written "Formatting PS" in the lower left corner).
Also tried the same but rather than doing a clean reset after installing WM6 I just tried a hard reset (thought that there might be a pb with the PS formating under WM6). However result is almost the same. Takes about 15 mins for the booting progress bar to reach 100% (all filled) and then just stays like that.
?????
Bye.

As of 12/23/07 there are 3 confirmed working roms for hx2*** series ipaqs. So far the pdaviet version(s), the newest in particular, is more stable, less activesync issues, preinstalled software ie: psshutxp and much more. (could use more feedback from others on this)
Please Note: (READ THE PLEASE NOTES! THEY ARE IMPORTANT)
Devices ending with .L (hx211x & hx241x) must be downgraded to .H before beginning wm6 upgrade process. Download both the 1.00.00.L and 1.00.00.H installers from the hp website. Use the .L installer to flash your device with the .H nbf (use the steps below, but substitute the .H nbf where the steps ask for the wm6) Continue to use the .L installer/flasher to perform your updates.. (the .h installer wont work for your device) So your sequence of upgrades will be: 1.00.00.L -> 1.00.00.H -> WM6
Please Note:
If you brick your pda DONT MESSAGE ME, try running a p.s. before you panic. Then if that doesn't work, put your device back into white boot loader mode and run the rom update utility that came WITH YOUR DEVICE. if you don't have it, download it, run it, and if needed perform a p.s. format on your device at the end. This will fix it. Trust me.
As promised: Here are the steps
-take out any cf/sd cards you might have installed. grab your cradle AND ac power cord (no AC cord = no flashing for you)
-put device into normal boot loader mode and downgrade to 1.0h w/files from hp website.
-format the p.s. (fyi everyone misses you have to HOLD DOWN the keys for p.s. format for like 4 or 5 seconds and THEN it will activate) After p.s. format wm5 will start.
(!! Start below this line if you are performing a wm6-4pda to wm6-pdaviet upgrade or vise versa !!)
-put device into WHITE boot loader mode and again run the 1.0h rom setup. When you arrive at the screen that asks "update" or "cancel",
1. rename the wm5.xxx.nbf to wm5.xxx.nbf.old
2. rename the new wm6.xx.nbf from the 4pda.rar/pdaviet file to whatever your wm5-wm5.xxxx.nbf was called (before you added the .old to it)
-NOW hit update. You shouldn't get any errors.
-After updated, wm6 wont start properly until you again format the p.s. (remember to hold down those keys to start) once this is done
-you should be golden.. with a working copy of wm6 on your wm5 deivce.
**FYI: With the 4pda update, I didn't LOSE any installed apps, data etc. I just installed all the wm6 versions of any apps I had over the wm5 vers. Very awesome!
** However when I performed the pdaviet rom update I DID. But its okay I needed to do this anyway (always good to start fresh with a new os install)
Boot loader Key Sequences (confirmed on 2490b, 2790b, msg me and ill add more if needed)
Normal Boot loader Mode:
contacts + mail + reset -let go and press calendar to activate
White Screen Boot loader Mode:
contacts + itask + reset -let go and press calendar to activate
Format P.S. (hold down until activated)(screen will say formating p.s. when activated):
contacts + messaging + power + reset
OR (I had to use this to format the p.s. after the PDAVIET rom upgrade)
calender + power + messaging + reset, release reset - release all

Hi ae303hf,
any progress/luck with flashing WM6 on your HX 2110 ?
Regarding your previous post, it's "normal" that the downgrade to WM2003SE doesn't work with a downloaded firmware from HP website. You'll need a "special" downgrade version from HP (one that comes with the WM2003SE --> WM5 upgrade CD from HP.
Summarizing what I've been able to do so far:
- starting point: WM5 ITA official HP upgrade
- via bootloader screen, flashed AKU3.52_ENG - OK
- AKU3.52 definitely refused to work: even after formatting PS and clean+hard reset, progress bar was stuck at 100% after slow startup
- panicking :D tried to rollback to WM2003SE but, as you know, it will never work unless using special downgrade version (which I didn't try)
- via bootloader screen, flashed WM5 ENG official HP - OK
- via bootloader screen tried to flash WM6 ENG - KO :(
Now I have a nice up and running WM5 ENG... but no way to upgrade to WM6, tried every way including Pre-BL and Eboot screens but I always get an Invalid SKU error. ROM numbers are Pre-BL 1.00.02 and Eboot 1.00.00.L.
I guess bootloader 1.00.02 and/or having the official HP firmware is what's blocking me now. Maybe I should try reverting to another bootloader or ROM, but every attempt is now reporting a SKU error.

Looking at this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330682
I believe the right procedure to follow may look like this:
- downgrade whatever version to WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade (which should always work to perform a downgrade)
- upgrade to WM5 "L" ENG build with hx2000_1.00.00.L_ENG
- upgrade to "H" ENG build with SP32408_1.00.00.H_ENG
- use "H" firmware image from SP33003_1.02.00.H_ENG to fool WM6 RUU and swap with firmware WM6.0_5.20.00.H_ENG (because it needs an "H" upgrade)
Just my two cents... I'll try as soon as I have some spare time.
Maybe not all steps are required: for instance my PDA, now running 1.00.00.L could start by upgrading to "H" firmware and then go on from there.

Download all the necessary files at http://depositfiles.com/en/files/1799963
Follow this step carefully:
1. downgrade whatever version you have now to WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade
2. upgrade to WM5 "L" ENG build with hx2000_1.00.00.L_ENG
3. upgrade to "H" ENG build with SP32408_1.00.00.H_ENG
4. upgrade "H" firmware image from SP33003_1.02.00.H_ENG, but BEFORE you press UPDATE button, change the original nbf file with WM6.0 nbf file USING the FILE NAME EXACTLY like the original nbf in SP33003_1.02.00.H_ENG

I flashed my 2490b several times like this, and never downgrade to wm2003. I had the original sp3303 rom. I flashed first with sp32408 from bootloader mode. Then using sp32408 RUU and the device in bootloader mode, after the checking and before pushing update, I replace the original nbf from sp32408 with the wm6(renamed to the original's nbf name). After a clean reset all works with no problems

bosstom,
first: you do not need bootloader for upgrading to WM5, just plug your iPaq and launch upgrader.
second: you need to flash in the EXACTLY SAME ORDER:
1.00.00.L -> 1.00.00.H -> 1.02.00.H -> WM6
third: for every flashing after 1.00.00.L use hpRUU flashing software supplied with 1.00.00.L firmware.
PS: ATTENTION!! This method is for hx2110 and hx2410 only. Every other model allready have "H" version firmware and do not need to be flashed with 1.00.00.L.
Please excuse me fo bad english as I am russian from 4pda community forum. :)

I've tried everything. I've tried to move the hpRUU .exe program to the 1.00.00.H and I've tried to move the 1.00.00.H ROM to the 1.00.00.L folder and rename the 1.00.00.H ROM. I've tried any combination I can but I keep getting the invalid SKU! error. I've tried both versions of the bootloader as well. I even downgraded to WM2003.
No such luck. No matter what I try to do, I cannot upgrade my hx2110 to WM 6.0.
Any other suggestions? Anyone else successful with an hx2110?

OK! I wasn't reading the directions completely!
I'm now running WM6.0 on my hx2110. It works great! Much faster than previous versions.
Basically, I was renaming the files and placing them in the hpRUU folders to soon. I haid to wait until the hpRUU program gave me a choice of upgrade or cancel.
Once I figured that out it was very easy and I'm now good to go.
If you have any questions just ask.

I did not go to 1.00.00.L from WM2003, I went straight to 1.00.00.H and it worked just fine.
I'm even willing to bet that I could have gone right to WM6 from 2003SE using the boot loader.
Once the HP thinks that it is about to install one of the WM5 versions and you switch it with the WM6.nbf (renamed to the required WM5.nbf name) ROM it should work.
But, I went from 1.00.00.L>WM2003>1.00.00.H>1.02.00.H>WM6 with no problems.
Just wondering if we can streamline it and simplify the process :)

I may have missed something in the discussions but the ROMs listed seem to be revisions for the B models. Does this work on the original 2xxx series as well or is there a different revision for that.

PS: ATTENTION!! This method is for hx2110 and hx2410 only. Every other model allready have "H" version firmware and do not need to be flashed with 1.00.00.L.
Please excuse me fo bad english as I am russian from 4pda community forum. :)

Just one more thing, my PDA is an iPAQ HX 2410.
Hi Udillak,
I was able to go from 1.00.00.L to 1.00.00.H and then to 1.02.00.H however I am getting a error messaege when going to WM6. The upgrade will get to 1% then I get a message on my PDA saying "Digital Sign Mismatch" and the upgrade application on my PC gives give me an error. Can you help?
I appreciate any feedback from you or from any one in the forum.

I succeeded upgrading to WM6 on my HX2410.
I had 1.00L, then -->1.00H-->1.01H(33752)-->WM6. My feeling is 1.00L-->WM6 should also work, at least 1.01H is not neccessary.
WM6 is really faster (than 1.01H than 1.00L) on my HX2410. Thanks everybody!

Hi guys, got it working.... Sort of... thanks a lot, wonder if you can help though... Have an Ipaq hx2110, and flashed in order can get into WM6 fine, however... when i clcik contacts it just flickers on and off again, the same is also true for live messenger, and also when setting up email the account sets up fine, but never seems to receive anything? also when i a create a calender entry it pops up " an unexpected error occured" and then i have to kill the exe to get rid of it. And final problem is that when creating a task i get the error " No program memory available" when there is? Any ideas? i really like it and just want it to work!
Thanks

Hi,
I just got an Ipaq hx2795 and I followed your method to upgrade to WM6, and it worked perfectly!.:) However, I saw a supposedly upgraded version of WM6 and i tried to install it, and too hastily I think. I did it without first removing my SD and CF cards. the upgrade said it went through ok on the PC, but it froze on the PPC, about halfway. ever since then, I've only been able to bring up the pda in pre-BL mode. Whenever I attempt to re-load any ROM (WM5 or WM6), I get the error message that the language of my current ROM is unknown and hence, the upgrade cannot go through. To further complicate my problem, I was trying to recover it about 3 nights ago and accidentally left the pda on all night in pre-BL mode. Now I think the battery is dead and I do not know how to charge it. Is there any resource or anyone that can help me with this problem? Is there a way to load the rom and Ignore the language setting on the Ipaq? What should I do now?
Please let me know ASAP and Thanks!!

Firstly a thank you to Pyro225 for telling me about WM6. Also, a big thank you to anavas, copenhagen, and all of the other people whose posts I used to get WM6 installed.
Pyro225, I was having the same problems as you (contact window not appearing, not being able to create tasks etc). However after doing a PS format, eveything now seems to be working fine (touch wood).
To do a PS format on my iPaq (Hx2490), I had to:
- hold down Calender, power and Message buttons (when WM6 is running), then press and hold reset with the stylus until the screen goes black
- release reset button
- release all other buttons.
The HP boot screen then appeared saying PS-Formatting at the bottom right.
When WM6 loaded back up, all was well.
Hope this helps.

So far I see 4PDA W6 version is the best version of all other WM6 for hx2000 series, I see a WM6 version on PDAVIET site (kind of HTC Touch Theme) and I tried flashing but the A2DP fix (given by Udilak) is not working, so when I try to switch back to 4PDA WM6, I couldn't , I break my head in all ways and finally I did a flashing of HP official ROM and then flashed 4PDAs WM6.
and I am not sure about the battery, but you can get a new batter for $ 15 (extended battery) from the ebay

Yes, this is absolutely normal, hx2110/2410/2415 all have 64Mb flash rom inside. WM6 firmware image size is 48MB, plus operation system needs some 1-2 megabytes for its purposes - so it's obviously normal that totall memory in internal storage is about 15Mb (partially used for some files).

In use: 5.03mb
Free: 9.88mb

Free: 35.60mb

I have a few questions
a) Which Storage system is best in case of power consumption and speed
CF / SD ?
b) Which one is the best GPS system to get work with iPAQ? I won't probably prefer to carry an another system with bluetooth etc,,,. I see around many SDIO / CF gps in the internet , but I am not sure those will work with iPAQ.

Hi Copenhagem and Anavas, great to hear that PDAVIET WM6 is working, I saw it is from Sep/2007 - is it better than the 4PDA version ? Do you have a print screen of it ? And : Does anybody knows why 4PDA WM6 consumes more battery than HP's WM5 ?

The version numbers (as shown in my previous post's pictures) of the pdaviet rom are lower then those of the 4pda rom.
However,
I have found that there are less errors (for me personaly) in the pdaviet rom. Also interestingly enough, the pdaviet rom was published on a newer (later) date then the 4pda, so is it newer?? (tuff call) is it better - I say hells yah, but ultimately you gotta decide.
The pdaviet rom comes with a SH|T awful ad filled boot screen, so I have tracked down and attached some wm2003 wm5 and wm6 boot screen installers. Check my big post for that.
The only problem I have run into so far is not being able to access the buttons applet, but I am looking at that right now. ** And aparently the cuplrit IS wba3.... if I disable wba3 I can access the buttons applet! PFFFFFFEWWWWWWW! Glad it isnt the rom
I would go w/the pdaviet @ this time. I've actually had none of the little issues; I had a few minor but annoying ones with 4pda. From what I can tell, even though the ver #'s are lower, the rom is better. Also noticed that because I did a clean install of the pdaviet rom, I have a ton more space then I did before (helps also that the author added some good apps to the rom.. like psshutxp and phm regedit... now you dont have to install them urself)
Good luck guys.

Does anybody knows why 4PDA WM6 consumes more battery than HP's WM5 ?
hp probably focused on power saving during the os implementation stage of their ipaq's development. Their rom updates made improvments in those areas... So i would imagine the first few wm6 rom's out for ipaqs (not having been developed by hp) are going to have issues, and the 4pda /battery thing is one of them. So far the pdaviet rom seems to handle power better, but I havnt field tested it yet.
feedback on this is welcome.

I have an external iogear bt gps... its awsome, esp now with the pdaviet rom
and a fresh install... it connects b4 i even get into my vehicle...
have not tried the ad2p (spelling?) fix yet, as the 2490b is a non phone device so i just use it for gps and music (via the head phone jack to rca in on the back of my vehicle stereo) perhaps someone else can post their findings.
and lastly, the battery fix provided above.. i will check on this tonight and get back to you on my findings. I have some tips that should be followed though before trying the battery recalibration.
1. take out all your add in cards
2. make the suggested changes to activesync biodtect and all else they suggested in the post (see link above) because that will prevent your device from waking up during the battery charge periods..
3. disable any today plugings / ppc software that generate reminders / notifications. disable your bt and wifi radios and phone if you got em.
I use a today plugin called 'nopluginstoday' by icnus.(again spelling?) its awsome for knocking all ur today plugins off in one click from a tray icon.try it :)
just some suggestions to try. good luck Ill be happy if that fix works.. i get like 2 minutes out of a battery a year old. 10 seconds if i got bt and wifi on.

I was wrong about the pdaviet ver of windows live working...
ill edit the post to reflect this... however
CONFIRMED the above posted wlm setup does work... have been running it now w/ no problems for 3 days... again will add this info to my big post.
Also my findings on the battery recalibrate thing.
After allowing the unit to charge for exactly 30 mins, unplugging from ac, pulling the battery out, put battery back in, and plug in ac. wm6 loaded up and the battery info (in birdsoft battery watch app) was non existant,
This leads me to believe I had reset something... So i turned the device off and let it charge for another 4 hours.
Then soft reset.
Today when I pulled my pda from power in my car it stayed on with wifi and bt enabled for ~ 10 minutes or so, then i got scared and plugged into the cradle (just usb w/fastcharge enabled) so in that regard it is working WAY better.
BUT
right after I pulled it from power, b.s. battery watch immediately showed 0% remaining. And dummy me forgot to check what the wm power app was reading... tomorrow perhaps. So not a 100% fix.

How did you do it exactly? I have downloaded all the necessary upgrades for my hx2110. Used the advanced pack on this forum. For upgrading I used the the hpRUU.exe (L rom). When getting the upgrade or cancel menu, I renamed the rom file exactly as the one delivered by the L rom package (for H version), but I still get that SKU error.

I had the same problem at first. You have to run the rom using the original (L) rom first. Then after the first screen ("Welcome to the iPAQ update utility...") after you click next, there is another "pause" before you have to click next again, the next screen will say "verifying information on your ipaq". Then just before you click next again, THEN you switch and rename the ROMS. This will get you past the SKU error and allow it to load the WM6 ROM.

Hi guys, I flashed my hx2795 to WM6 from 4PDA.ru and it works well. I had to change a registry to activate extra dialup string to use a bluetooth modem. I also had to change registry to see contrast and error reporting apps. Then installed the Udillak A2DP fix, and every tool I use is working well. I followed all recommendations to fix the battery pack in this thread and others, but the WM6 still consumes something like 3-4% of the battery in standy by mode per day.
I am glad to have that ROM, and as promised sent a paypal to misar, not that much but to thank him for this fantastic work. Thank you all for the help too.
If you know any work to upgrade the 5.2.1437 (Build 17944.0.3.1) to a next like version 5.2.1908, please let me know.

bosstom,
first: you do not need bootloader for upgrading to WM5, just plug your iPaq and launch upgrader.
second: you need to flash in the EXACTLY SAME ORDER:
1.00.00.L -> 1.00.00.H -> 1.02.00.H -> WM6
third: for every flashing after 1.00.00.L use hpRUU flashing software supplied with 1.00.00.L firmware.
PS: ATTENTION!! This method is for hx2110 and hx2410 only. Every other model allready have "H" version firmware and do not need to be flashed with 1.00.00.L.
Please excuse me fo bad english as I am russian from 4pda community forum. :)

How does it function on your hx2410 - is it fast enough?
how is the memory consumption?
did you have to upgrade each firmware separately or can you flash the wm6 directly from wm2003se?

Finally got WM6 on my HX2415, and that was only after wasting my time here for half a day following tutorials that didn't work in the end. I had to figure it out myself.
What I did was my WM5 1.00.00.L was rejecting the H firmware no matter what method I was using, so I got so frustrated I started up the WM2003SE downgrader then I thought "hey, this thing will downgrade to WM2003, why not just use it to "downgrade" to the H firmware?" That worked, but the lame thing is, my program storage got cut in half from when was the L firmware. From 24mb down to 14mb, that was unacceptable. Then I "downgraded" to the .02 H firmware and the program storage was still 14mb. Finally, knowing that WM6 was around the corner I gave it one last try, "downgraded" to WM6 and the program storage is.....still 14mb. Even till now with WM6 its still 14mb, even with formatting the PS twice it was 14mb.
Sucks, but what I want to know is why did I have to "downgrade" to the H firmware? Why didn't everyone else's method not work on my device? Is the H firmware the one responsible for my 14mb storage memory when it's supposed to be 24mb?

mangatron,
It's totally normal to have 14 Mb of storage after .H firmware flashing.
Just relax and take a look on .L and .H firmware image files sizes.
You will find that .H file is 10 megabytes biger then .L.
Do you understand why HP calls this firmwares as [Hi] and [Low]?

Yeah, the file sizes really got me thinking there. But there really is no way to get the lost 10mb back? That could help because my most needed programs are taking up all the memory, if I use up the rest of the free memory my device will take a dump lol.
I would try and take the time to go immediately from the L firmware to WM6, but I'm not guaranteed that works.

I had great success flashing my hx2490 to the pdaviet WM6.0_5.07.01_HP2000 ROM on friday. I was @ 1.0h with a virgin OS. Followed the instructions and all went well. I did the battery drain fixes right away. I had to use the additional Windows Live install to get it working.
A few things though...
I haven't applied the A2DP patch yet, don't have that type of headset yet. My Logitech headset connects fine but it's not putting out any audio from my media. I used to be able to watch media and listen in mono through my headset, as well as hear the general OS sounds etc. Should I apply the patch anyway?
I noticed a 'Task Manager' in the Settings screen, it seems to work fine with one exception. The 'Enable X Button to end programs' doesn't work. Neither does the extra option of choosing 'tap and hold' X to close...
Everything else is great. It's fast! I love it! I have renewed happiness with my device, no thanks to HP!
You people ROCK!
P.S. Can we change this threads title to something like 'WM6 ROMs for iPAQ hx2000 Series' ?? The current title is misleading for the important info inside!

After struggling with this for 5 hours I have nutted out my problem.
For those of you having the low image problem - I had this issue with firmware 1.02 H for my 2490b and it wouldnt let me downgrade further, nothing I tried worked. Despite a lot of posts stating you need to downgrade; I coudlnt at all, and in fact didnt need to.
(Most of the following is a straight cut from copenhagen's instructions)
- put device into WHITE bootloader mode and again run the 1.0h rom setup.
** when you put it in bootloader mode hold down the calendar button, it should then be active even if its still a blank white screen **
Run HpRUU.exe from the softpaq32408 (the later version just doesnt work)
When you arrive at the screen that asks "update" or "cancel"
1. rename the wm5.xxx.nbf to wm5.xxx.nbf.old
2. rename the new wm6.xx.nbf from the 4pda.rar/pdaviet file to whatever your wm5-wm5.xxxx.nbf was called (before you added the .old to it)

Your eboot mode is type L, thus:
Use Upgrade from firmware WM5.0 version 1.00.00_L
(http://rapidshare.com/files/55464011/WWE-hx2000L_WM5_Upgrade.rar.html)
Before you press update, rename the original nbf file of 1.00.00_L to something else, then rename wm6.0's nbf file into the original name of 1.00.00_L's nbf file.
Voila...you have wm6.0 ENG

At the moment it's running with wm2003 Se , english .
I've heard that Wm5 sold by hp is buggy rubbish , it's slow .
I'd like to upgrade to WM6 , but I don't know how to do .

But I think I haven't WM5 H ( or the WM L ) rom . ( I have only one WM5 rom , that is 1.00.00 , nothing else )
Moreover , I only can attach my device on usb OR power chord , not both .
I've read the best WM6 rom is the one given by pdaviet , is that true ?

In hx2750 there is only one rom upgrade : wm5 1.00.00 H .
In Wm6 instructions is written that upgrading needs these steps :
( wm5 1.00.00 L ) , wm5 1.00.00 H -- > wm5 1.02.00 H -- > Wm6 Pdaviet .
I simply have ONE rom : wm5 1.00.00 H .
At the address is written something about hx27xx users :
http://pdaviet.net/showthread.php?t=13245
but I can't understand it . Seems that says something like that :
" for ipaq hx27xx versions , upgrading is the same thing above , with only the difference that the first upgrade is wm5 1.00.00 H and the second is the same of those other ipaqs : ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33001-33500/sp33003.exe
Anyway I'm not sure . If someone out there has tried to upgrade hx27xx series with wm5 1.02.00 H rom , could confirm that ?

1. You don't read the step carefully. It is very dangerous if you finish each upgrade without FORMAT PS..
2. Your Battery is not 100%, because you upgrade using cradle..it can not simultaneously charge the battery when you were doing upgrading
3. 10 days and still intact on IPAQ? Your battery already DRAINED.

Hi , I've successfully upgradred my ipaq hx2750 with pdaviet rom :
The process is :
wm5 1.00.00 H --> wm6 pdaviet
clean resetting and using Usb mode ( white bootloader mode ) .
The rom upgrade utility i used is the one provided with wm5 1.00.00H .
Just substitute the file before confirming the upgrade .
I've however some issues with :
1) battery indicator , indicating a non-correct battery level .
2) wireless psk is working . however , sometimes I need to switch off and again on the wi-fi to let it to connect to my network . If I don't it keeps saying "connecting" but it doesn't do it .
3) I'm not sure if I have the same battery drain issue that other people have , but feel free to ask me if you wanna know in the future .
I'll try this rom but I think there are some bad bugs in it .

Greetings to everyone on this forum and a big "thank you" for everyone who has helped make upgrading the iPaq hx2000 series to WM6 possible -- you guys rock! :)
I was wondering if anyone can post Part 1 of of PDAViet's solution to a file-sharing service such as Rapidshare or MegaUploads? The reason is because the link seems to be broken. I get a "Website currently unavailable" message when I access hxxp://tom-love.net/. Note that this is not the exact link to the file, but the main website and that I intentionally changed "http" to "hxxp".
The actual link to the file is hxxp://tom-love.net/ROM/HP/WM6.0_5.07.01_HP2000.part1.rar, but it does not load anything. Heck, it would be better to merge the 2 files together (parts 1 & 2) in order to make the link a "one-stop" solution. Thank you in advance.

I'm going to edit this post , because I found something about wireless and so on :
-First of all , I had installed spb pocket plus and pocket mechanic , and what I think is that one of them is the responsible of the behaviour of wireless.
I hard- resetted the unit and I didn't install anymore those programs ( I think I had used the program's clean-utilities ) .
-About the battery indicator : Don't use activesync . Or do it but withouth usb-charging . I've noticed that charging while connected to activesinc seems to be the cause of the problem .
-The process of switching on bluetooth is quite slow .
Another Thing :I'm using QuickMenu ( the chinese program ), but I think it has a bug : when the pda is connected to a charger , it seems to be very very slow . ( i'm using the battery indicator on the up-right part of the screen ) .
However , once discovered and risolved these bugs , WM6 Pdaviet rocks on my hx2750 .

Hello, mspock, you quoted the following:
"-The process of switching on bluetooth is quite slow."
What version are you showing regarding the Bluetooth stack? The 4pda version of the hack displays the Broadcom version 1.7.1.1424 as its Bluetooth stack, which is the exact same version of WM5 for the hx2750 -- a proven pain in the butt for many iPaq owners trying to connect to their Bluetooth GPSs. I believe that WM6's actual Bluetooth stack never made it into the hack. I have the exact same model that you have, the hx2750, but I could not get it to work with 4pda's hacked WM6 (the Bluetooth).
Is it possible that you can post PDAViet's version to a file-sharing service such as Rapidshare, etc.? I'd like to try it on mine as it seems to have worked for you. Thank you in advance. I don't know if the email method will work, but I'll include it also: rivmik7@msn.com

yes , it's the 1.7.1.1424 version .
when switched on , it takes a little time to be operative ( eg. 10 to 15 seconds ), however I've already tested it with my gps receiver and it works perfectly .

mspock, you're a godsend!!! :)
I'm downloading it right now and as soon as I get it installed, I'll post my results here. It's just awesome that someone with the same model as mine has been able to post some positive results regarding the hx2750's Bluetooth capability as it's proved to be quite a pain for many owner's of this model, particularly those trying to get their GPS Bluetooth receivers to work. This way, I'll know if my hx2750 is simply a dud or not.
On a different note, I've noticed that some here still have problems trying to re-flash their iPaqs, bricked or not. It's VERY important that your unit says "USB" on the bottom left-hand corner of your display and NOT, "USB is connected". Here's what I did. By the way, the bootloaders failed for me, but the hpRUU.exe works great even with thos ROM versions that give you all sorts of errors about your iPaq type and whatnot. Once you get into bootloader mode, hpRUU.exe behaves MUCH MORE DIFFERENTLY.
1. Remove hx2750 from the cradle. This assumes you already have your PC running and your hx2750 is on and residing in the cradle. I used WinXP and I recommend just WinXP. You don't have to kill the ActiveSync process be it on your hx2750 or PC.
2. Perform a hard reset on the hx2750 (CALENDAR+MESSAGES+POWER+SOFT RESET BUTTON). It should say "Formatting PS..." on the bottom left-hand corner of the hx2750's display.
3. Press and hold the CONTACTS+ITASK buttons and lightly depress the soft reset button. Let go of the buttons once you see
the boot loader screen. It'll look like the typical boot up screen except that it will say "Pre-BL: 1.00.04" on the (near) bottom right-hand corner of the display or similar (your version number may differ).
4. Place the hx2750 back in the cradle. You'll see "USB is connected" on the bottom left-hand corner of the hx2750's display. Press the CALENDAR button once to get it to show "USB". If you were successful, you should see at the bottom left hand corner of the hx2750's display, "USB", and NOT "USB is connected". If not, start all over again.
5. Run the hpRUU.exe utility (or your bootloader, if you feel comfortable with it) from you XP machine and perform the ROM update.
NOTE: If using the hpRUU.exe utility, you MUST ensure that hpRUU.ini has the exact name of the NBF file you're trying to flash to your hx2750. If it is not, change the string in the INI file to reflect that of your NBF or that of your NBF file to reflect that of your INI file. Either one should work. The hx2750 will automatically reboot once it's done.
5. After the re-boot, perform another hard reset (CALENDAR +MESSAGES+POWER+SOFT RESET BUTTON). I really did not find this step necessary, but it may for others so, just do it to be on the safe side.
'hope this helped. :)

Aaaaaaargh! Sorry mspock, I ran into an obstacle -- the file you uploaded to rapidshare is corrupt. I was able to extract the WM5 Upgrade from it, but the PDAViet WM6 folder is corrupt. I downloaded this file 3 times to ensure it was not my system corrupting the files. I also avoided downloading/uploading anything over the Net along with no multi-tasking activity while the file was being downloaded.
Could you please re-RAR the file and repost it? Just the PDAViet version would also do unless someone else needs the WM5 upgrade also. Thanks in advance!!! :)

I've edited my last post : repacked the file and re-uploaded . make sure you digit the right pw .
The updating process is right , someone says to do :
wm5 L --> wm5 H 1.00 --> wm5 H 1.02 ( for ipaq hax2750 you have to use an ipaq 2790 rom ) --> wm6 ( pdaviet or 4pda ) .
I had wm2003 , so my steps became : wm2003 --> wm5 H --> wm6 pdaviet ( didn't pass through wm5 h 1.02 )
the rom updater i used is the one given with wm5 1.00.00 H rom , and , as described before , I've substituted the original wm5 rom with the wm6 one , after the confirmation , before pressing the continue button , without closing the application .
I think the hx2750 is a GREAT ppc , i don't undertand why it has a little support nowadays .
please tell me how you feel with this rom !

I could not find AutoUpdate in misar's ROM. Was it intentionally left out?
Also, I discovered that Error Reporting was missing too. Not that I need it though.
Overall, been a good experience with WM6.

@mspock: Hello again mspock, and all others who are monitoring this thread, of course, your repack worked great this time -- thanks a lot! :)
I successfully upgraded my hx2750 to PDAViet's version of WM6. I really like this version's memory management. All other apps and features worked just fine. The bad news is that my Bluetooth still remains broken. It always complained about the Bluetooth Radio not having enough memory -- the general complaint concerning Bluetooth in WM5 by many for years. :(
I know I'm not doing anything wrong as I'm not a rookie in the PDA business and have spent a couple of years searching the forums for answers in how to resolve this problem. I've done the countless of soft resets that others have recommended doing, running the bare minimum of apps (clean install, elimination of all of Today's items, minimum Bluetooth services, etc.) and still the hx2750's Bluetooth capability remains unresolveable for me. A very frustrating experience indeed.
What gets me is that when I revert back to WM2003, I can get Bluetooth to work, but it is intermittent. WM2003 used the Broadcom Bluetooth stack version 1.5. Research through the many forums that I have visited resulted in many others also having this problem so I really do not want to believe it is a hardware problem; however, mspock did say his Bluetooth works albeit slow connecting, but it works. Therefore, I can only conclude that there was a bad batch of hx2750s placed on the market when they first came out.
The only last hope for my unit would be a way to upgrade the Broadcom Bluetooth stack to something other than 1.7.x or replacing it altogether with that of another Bluetooth developer. So far, nothing out there has actually worked for the hx2750 or is available.
I've gone as far as i can with this device so I am giving up in trying to get Bletooth to work. Nevertheless, the WM6 upgrade for the hx2750 does work, with PDAViet's version being my favorite, so for those who still want to try -- go for it. :) Just don't expect Bluetooth to work for you if you did have a problem with your device. It's quite possible that if these WM6 upgrades discussed here in this thread had a Bluetooth stack version greater than 1.7.x (Broadcom, in this case), they may have been the ultimate fix/upgrade. Other than that, I'm retiring this bad boy.

hi again . I'm happy to hear that the rom is the one to choose , 'cause i've tried it without trying the 4pda version .
I have had once the problem of low memory with bluetooth , in wm2003 .
But from what I remember , i simply hard-resetted the unit . In wm6 , you have to do a CLEAN reset after the upgrade , ( pow + cal + msging + reset bttn ) but i'm sure you've already done it .
I don't know what causes your problem , it's strange 'cause it seems there is something eating ram. I suppose you do install everything on memory card ; I use my compact flash to run all programs , except the today add-on and the browser , that I've installed on the device . in wm6 I've
: Storage Mem : total : 74.96 Mb , In use : 33.13 , Free : 41.83
Program Mem : total : 117.56 , in Use : 24.21 , Free : 93.35
with bluetooth running , the prog mem is 92.10 ( in use : 25.46 ) .
If I find something reguarding the bluetooth stack , be sure I'll post here .
Good Luck .

worked for me. 2490 device was shipped w/wm5 1.02h
Please Note: As of 10/8/07 there are 2 confirmed working roms for hx2*** series ipaqs. So far the pdaviet version is more stable, less activesync issues, preinstalled software ie: psshutxp and much more. (could use more feedback from others on this)
As promised: Here are the steps
-take out any cf/sd cards you might have installed. grab your cradle AND ac power cord (no AC cord = no flashing for you)
-put device into normal boot loadermode and downgrade to 1.0h w/files from hp website.
-put device into WHITE bootloader mode and again run the 1.0h rom setup.
You shouldnt get any errors.
-After update wm6 wont start properly until you again format the p.s. (remember to hold down those keys to start) once this is done
-you should be golden.. with a working copy of wm6 on your wm5 deivce.
**FYI: With the 4pda update, I didnt LOSE any installed apps, data etc. I just installed all the wm6 versions of any apps I had over the wm5 vers. Very awsome!
** However when I performed the pdaviet rom update I DID. But its okay I needed to do this anyway (always good to start fresh with a new os install)
Bootloader Key Sequences (confirmed on 2490b, 2790b) msg me and ill add more if needed
Normal Bootloader Mode:
contacts + mail + reset -let go and press calendar to activate
White Screen Bootloader Mode:
contacts + itask + reset -let go and press calendar to activate
Format P.S. (hold down until activated)(screen will say formating p.s. when activated):
contacts + messaging + power + reset
OR (I had to use this to format the p.s. after the PDAVIET rom upgrade)
calender + power + messaging + reset, release reset - release all

I know that the rom given by hp ( .nbf ) are useless to bring - back - to - life a dead ipaq . I think the rom useful for this ( .nb0 ) can be obtained from the nbf one . Anyway I should have done an image before upgrading , just in case .
Now I wanna do that image , using a tool I've found ( grab_it ) , I suppose . Anyway , it creates an image on a sd card , and I don't know how to put it into my hard disk , and I ignore how to re-dump the rom I will extract to my device .
If anyone has tried or knows how-to-do , please tell me .
I think it's not an off-topic , because I think it should be included into the upgrading rom directions .

Hi,
I tried loading PDAVIET onto my hx2410...but no succes :(
What I've tried:
1) Updated WM2003 SE to WM5.0 1.00.00L_ENG and upgraded that to WM6 PDAVIET. All went okay, device restarted and loaded the new ROM up to 100% and then it got stuck. Between every upgrade I did a PS Format.
2) So I downgraded back to WM2003 SE and upgraded that one to WM5.0. But I can't load the SP32408_1.00.00.H_ENG with hpRUU. It keeps complaining "Incorrect Device SKU" (this upgrade is for hx2190, 195, 490, 495, 790, 795).
Do I need to force this some way? And how do I do that?
From what i've read in this thread is that you need to upgrade the ROM. So step 2 should be needed right? And after that i need to upgrade to 1.02.00H?
Some of you guys replied you were able to get these ROM upgrades working on a hx2410, so I'm curious how you managed that...Please help? :)
I hope you guys can help me out. Been working on this for quite some hours now and can't get it work...Thanx in advance!

You can downgrade to WM2003 SE with the downgrade included with the WM5_1.00.00L upgrade. This is what I did anyways when I couldn't get WM6 to work.

So, now I've tried both on my hx2110 (the 4PDA and PDAVIET) version. Just looking to get some other opinions before I decide which one to stick with.
They both perform the same and have identical functionality (from my experience, at least). The only differences is that the PDAVIET version seems a "tad" bit faster (not enough to base a decision on that alone) and it also has the different startup screen (oddly enough I prefer the standard WM6 splash screen) but I that doesn't matter unless you perform a reset.
Anyone have any reason to choose one over the other?

Download all the necessary files at http://depositfiles.com/en/files/1799963
Follow this step carefully:
1. downgrade whatever version you have now to WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade
2. upgrade to WM5 "L" ENG build with hx2000_1.00.00.L_ENG
3. upgrade to "H" ENG build with SP32408_1.00.00.H_ENG
4. upgrade "H" firmware image from SP33003_1.02.00.H_ENG, but BEFORE you press UPDATE button, change the original nbf file with WM6.0 nbf file USING the FILE NAME EXACTLY like the original nbf in SP33003_1.02.00.H_ENG
bosstom,
first: you do not need bootloader for upgrading to WM5, just plug your iPaq and launch upgrader.
second: you need to flash in the EXACTLY SAME ORDER:
1.00.00.L -> 1.00.00.H -> 1.02.00.H -> WM6
third: for every flashing after 1.00.00.L use hpRUU flashing software supplied with 1.00.00.L firmware.
PS: ATTENTION!! This method is for hx2110 and hx2410 only. Every other model allready have "H" version firmware and do not need to be flashed with 1.00.00.L.
Please excuse me fo bad english as I am russian from 4pda community forum.
All iPAQ hx211x & hx241x owners, pay close attention to this two posts.
I followed them to the dot & was able to finally successfully upgrade my hx2415 to WM6.
Make sure you download the two ROM update files corresponding to 1.00.00.H(SP32408) & 1.00.02.H(SP33003) from the HP website.
Extract the ROM update programs to a predetermined folder & unpack the individual ROM programs into different subfolders (eg. 1.00.00.H & 1.00.02.H).
Using the 1.00.00.L WM5 upgrade utility (obtained from the WM5 upgrade CD), follow the abovementioned steps to flash the iPAQ in the exact sequence.
At each flashing step, use ONLY the ROM Update Utility from the 1.00.00.L package. THIS IS VERY CRUCIAL!
Just substitute the original WM5 .nbf file to the corresponding .nbf files from each ROM update package at the 'Update' or 'Cancel' step of the RUU.
Finish flashing that step & allow the device to boot up.
Subsequently, put the device into White Bootloader mode (ie. Pre-BL...).
Proceed to flash the iPAQ with the next step.
Follow this procedure until you finally bring the device to WM6.
Presto! You will get a WM6 ROM onto your iPAQ hx211x or hx241x.
These steps are unique to iPAQ hx211x & hx241x as my hx2755 was able to go from 1.00.00H to WM6 without any glitches.
Hope this helps those out there still trying.
Many thanks to abbaml & Udillak for their explanations.

Guys you are the greatest!
I just successfully upgraded my hx2410 to WM6.
I followed instructions above and all went well except when I got to flashing to WM6 rom.
I got this error "Wrong rom signature" or something like that.
So I did as described here: link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326214&page=2&highlight=hx2000)
1. Clear reset the hx2750 (Press Calendar, power and message button). While still press those button, lightly press reset button with stylus.
2. Sync it with your computer using craddle / data cable
3. Take out your ipaq from the craddle. Press contact + itask button + reset button. Your ipaq will come to bootloader. Put it on the craddle. On the bottom left it will show usb connection. Press calendar button. Now at the bottom left it will show USB.
And the tried again to flash with WM6 and it worked! :)
Tnx again for all the effort.

You need to run the 1.00.00.L setup program BEFORE replacing the rom file - let it go throug the verification steps FIRST and when you get the window that has the UPDATE button on it, switch out the rom files and then push update.
Good luck!

If someone could download it and post it in another repository (rapidshare, esnips, etc) it would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Those ROM are russian, not english. If you want it, can you provide me a direct link to the post since I can't find it. I am registered en 4pda.ru

I have this 4PDA WM6 ROM for some time now. Besides the fact my batery lasts 4-5h less that it did with WM5 I came on few more problems.
Last week I got me self a brand new Motorola S9 bluetooth stereo headphones. First of all WM6 was unable to connect. Even after WM6 bt patch applied. I was able to solve this one just by appying the patch again.
Now while streaming every few minutes or so my music stops for short time and then continues. I dont think this is headphone problem since my home bluetooth works like it should. Am moving back to WM5. It might look ugly, but it's fast and somewhat reliable.
If anyone knows how this problem of mine can be solved without flashing my device again, I'd be grateful! Thanx!

.... thanks to advice in this thread.
Anyway I used the WM6.0_5.07.01_HP2000_PDAVIET, and the only problem so far is when switching to full-screen mode in WMP10, the screen is not rotated to landscape. This is only small, but annoying - the workaround of assigning a button to hardware rotate is slow and choppy.
Wondered if this is the case for others, or if the 4PDA is different?

I realy can't help you there. Why dont you try TCPMP (free) The Core Media Player. This is the best program, in my opinion, for playing any type of movies and music on PDA. It supports DivX, Xvid, MPEG, OGG, MP3, WMV, WMA and many more. Or maybe a comercial version of this player named CorePlayer.
These players have many options regarding video playback including ones for automatic rotation. They use less processor load to decode and play movie than MediaPlayer. That is one of the reasons I switched players. With these players I was able to play hi quality DivX movie without resampling directly from SD card. Check them out, you wont regret! :)
Ouh, and difference between these two players is mainly in GUI and some other things, A2DP among other things. Comercial looks soo much better :)

Why dont you try TCPMP...
Yeah, maybe that's the best bet. It is still annoying tho', cos it worked perfectly in WM5 for what I wanted - to play .wmv.
What is interesting is if it is a bug in WM6, the PDViet (tho' don't see how it could be), or the IPAQ [heh]. HAving said that a google gave nothing, and surely I'm not the only one who plays video full screen on the WM6/WMP10 combination.

Change the interface language of wm6 on the fly to your native language!
BEFORE DO ANYTHING TAKE A BACKUP!!!!
This is tested with hx2490b and the pdaviet version of wm6(the 4pda version resaults a hang on wellcome screen).
1. Take your language mui files from wm6 emulator images as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311078&highlight=tutorial+translate
(somewhere in the forum you can find a link to these extracted files for some languages)
2. Put all the mui files to a folder and rename each to 0409(e.g bbcbres.dll.0410.mui to bbcbres.dll.0409.mui)
3. Use this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306982&highlight=signer
on all mui files(maybe is not necesary this, but for me was)
4. Copy all the signed mui files on device's windows directory and overwrite the files that need to.
5. Make a Soft Reset.
After that go to windows directory and if you have the directrories "start menu" and "startup" and on your native language, copy all the contents of "start menu" and "startup" directories to them.

The chronic "hp devices all die sooner then you would like them to" disease that will eventually attack all of your devices
has gotten to mine first. Unfortunetly for myself, the wifi component of my ppc is now fubar. (And this new rom had
NOTHING to do with it)
Just to make sure, I flashed down to 5.0 1.00h then 5.0 1.02h, then back to original pdaviet rom, then again with this new one, and wifi stayed off with "driver not loaded" and "unrecognized card in slot 2" error messages throughout the entire process. AND now that my device is out of warrenty... SNIFFLE!!!!!! Just to be clear.. this is a HARDWARE DEFECT that ALOT of people are experiencing. This cannot be fixed by anyone other then hp. DAM THEM.
So... for the time being ill still follow the progess of the wm6 roms and continue to update the big post on page 7...
but the minute hp starts shipping the new ipaq 210, my 2490 is getting donated to the g.f.
b.t.w. the ipaq 210 is 100$ less then the 2490b AND has 256mb rom, larger 4 inch screen, wifib+g, bt2, and comes shipped with wm6. HDSC so > 2gb sd cards. etc etc... the processor also runs about 100 mhz faster then the 2490b (same speed as 2790 i believe) Also this device has an expected 3 year
life cycle... which is significantly longer then the 6 or so months I got out of the 2490b.
Anyways,, good luck everyone with your upgrades to wm6 .. hopefully we've provided you with enough info to keep you
flashing uptil YOUR device conks out. May the hp gods bring you nothing but long battery life, and non-faulty units.
In the mean time... here is a new working ROM for you to play with:

All right! For all you dudes getting errors hacking this ROM into your old PDAs, listen up!
you HAVE TO do the following:
1-Format P.S. (hold down until activated)(screen will say formating p.s. when activated):
contacts + messaging + power + reset
OR (I had to use this to format the p.s. after the PDAVIET rom upgrade)
calender + power + messaging + reset, release reset - release all
2- White Screen Boot loader Mode:
contacts + itask + reset -let go and press calendar to activate
3- Put your PDA back on the cradle (or plug the USB cable and power supply back in)
4- Fire up the RUU utility from HP with the stock NBF file
5- When you get the UPGRADE button in the utility window, quicly rename the WM5 NBF to OLD and rename the new ROM file with the WM5 name
6- Click UPGRADE, and wait
Your PDA will be WM6 happy in about 30 minutes. DO NOT FRAK with it while the ROM is being applied!
Then, Bob's your uncle!
Merry Bobmas!

Hi...
this is a very interesting development.
However, it totally replaces the MUI files.
Is there a way to ADD native support for another language?
Like in my HTC Breeze aka Dopod 595, I can switch between English & Simplified Chinese in Regional Language Settings.
What can I do with this resources to ADD Simplified Chinese support into the OS?
Please advice me.
Thanks!

Hi Guys, I have flashed my hx2795 with 5.07.04 PV ROM and it firstly did not worked till I had hard reset it twice. After that I had some problems with SD and CF being used at same time but I applied a registry hack to solve the problem increasing the IO delay to 3000 and now I am happy with this ROM.
I tried 4PDA and PDAVIET 5.07.01 ROMs too, this lastest seems faster than the others and more stable till now. If I have any new I will post here. Good luck !

I think you can do it if you have the option to swich language interface. I did that for my qtek 8500 smartphone but with wm5. For this to work don't change the mui files to 0409 but live them as it is. But you must add the language to the registry in:
H K E Y _ L O C A L _ M A C H I N E \ M U I \A v a i l a b l e
After the key " 0 4 0 9 " = " U S E n g l i s h "
you must add a key with your language.
e.g: "0408"="Greek"
I thing this is general for all devices that support multilanguage, but maybe it needs more for yours. Anyway you can try it and maybe works.
Just be sure if you have broblems to see the translated interface language that you unsign and resign again the mui files and you don't take any errors in signing proccess.

dancer_69,
thanks for the prompt reply!
Appreciate your input on where to begin doing that.
When you said "option to switch language interface", how should that look like? are there some additional exe files that I need in order to achieve that?
Also, can you explain what you meant by "you don't take any errors in signing process"?
I'm very new to this so I appreciate your help in doing this.
In fact, I'm looking for a comprehensive tutorial since someone else would have thought of this idea before & perhaps attempted it already.
If you know where to find that, please let me know.
Thanks again!

If you can switch between English & Simplified Chinese that means that you have this option and with the registry editing the language you want will appears in the switch languages menu.
The msigner program have an option to create log files when it signs a file. check these files and if the sign process gives an error you will see it there. The log files are in same directory as the mui files.

dancer_69,
I'm using 4PDA's ROM for my iPAQ hx 2755 so language switching is not natively supported.
Do you know how I might be able to add language switching with this ROM installed in my hx2755?
I suspect some control panel add-on must be included along with the mui files you mentioned.
Also, I'm wondering if the absence of Simplified Chinese SIP would affect the stability or usability of the device.
Is it even possible to harvest the CHS SIP from the emulator image & drop it into the device?
Please advice me.

I think you cannot, I tried to do it to my hx2490b(similar to your device. I used the same rom). I don't know if there is a way to put this option or if these devices support the switch language future. Also you need to know(and for sure to take a backup before do anything) that with this rom the replace of mui files leads to a lock up on wellcome screen and needs a clean reset. Doesn't work for my device(but you can test it, no problem if you take backup). This works with pdaviet rom, but not the last version that cames out before a week.

Hi Guys, my english is not so good, but I will try to explain what is going on with me, and I didnt find here in this Thread.
I Tried to do exactly what is posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516882&postcount=66
But like other methods, - like trying to downgrade to w2003SE...
When the RUU verify my ROM version and Language... It says that is "Incorrect Language - Update Cannot Continue". THe Information from my PDA is:
Model ID: HP iPAQ hx2490b
ROM Version: 1.01.00.H
Language: Portuguese
And also says that the Upgrade is for:
Model ID: hpiPAQ(something that I cant read)
ROM Version: 1.00.00.H
Language: Unknown(on others said "English")
Anyone had this problem and solved? if Yes, please say how... I want to put Wm6 but I cant because of this little problem.
Thx in advance, and sorry to this is my first post here.
EDIT: Maybe I found the solution, I donwloaded a hpRUU for my language, and apparentilly solved... I will bring some information about later.
EDIT2: Hi Again, well, I got a problem, when I push Update, the PDA enters in Normal Boot mode, but there´s this error 606 - Exceeded Time Limit from Communication USB with BootLoader. Anyone knows what is this!? And how can I solve? Thanks...

Thanks to everyone for the great instructions. It was a pain at first but I got the latest PDAVIET ROM 18533 from pdaviet forums. I have it installed on my HX2495B. Here are some tips...
1.) If your having problems in VISTA, I had plenty, I used my wife's XP laptop. It was much easier. I'm not saying it can't be done in Vista, I just wasn't patient enough tonight to figure it out.
2.) On the 2495B and maybe other 2490B and others... I needed to use the SP32408_H RUU Client to run the updates. ie. Switch the roms etc. never needed to touch the L Client. In fact, the L Client never worked and gave me tons of problems. (This is probably mentioned already numerous times in the thread. :D
3.) When your trying to get the RUU Client to find your PDA, make sure you always do a PS Format before going to the White Bootloader screen. After you do the PS Format DO NOT setup the device. Just go straight into the WHITE BOOTLOADER. Connect it to the cradle. Run the RUU Client, swith the files after the rename and viola. I'm not going into detail because it's already all over this thread.
On to the review of the latest PDAVIET ROM.
I just did a PS format and reboot. Calibrated the screen and it's all set. I can say right off the bat that it is noticably faster than the last PDAVIET ROM. They took out Windows Live but added Glossy Black Bars, PDS pBar, PHM Registry Editor, Synchro Time, WM5torage, and psShutXP.
WiFi works great, much faster over WM5. Streaming Shoutcast to GSPlayer, no problem.
Bluetooth works as far as transfering files and connecting to my Cell Phone, however I haven't tested my AD2P Motorola headphones yet. I just noticed they have no juice left. Anyone have any luck with AD2P with this ROM? It should be fixed.
I haven't tried too many 3rd party apps yet or memory cards over 1 gig. That will come soon.
Good luck and this is my favorite ROM yet.
Thanks again everyone for the awesome posts.

Crypiejay,
Could you check how much Storage RAM is left after flashing the lastest PDAViet ROM? How much Storage RAM did you have running the previous release of PDAViet's ROM?
For my hx2415, there's about 14Mb Storage RAM left after flashing with 4PDA ROM.
I'm asking this because of the applications bundled into the ROM by the dev.
That will inadvertently reduce the amount of Storage RAM after the device starts up.
Please advice on this.
I won't be as concerned with my hx2755 with >70Mb Storage RAM left after starting up.
Thanks!

HI Guy's i too got the CRC error.
My work around was to rename the nbf.
EG
Using SP32408 (Microsoft_Windows_Mobile_5_WWE.nbf)
Goto white bootloader mode.
execute hpRUU.exe
before you begin the update rename nk.nbf to Microsoft_Windows_Mobile_5_WWE.nbf
Thats it... well i took the risk and it worked fine.
good luck

I have been following the forum for quite some time now and I am having trouble getting any wm6 image to my HX2495B. I have tried many times using different computers (XP and vista) and have not been successful receiving many different error messages.
The one thing that I can't do is get into white bootloader mode (or I think I am doing something wrong). I press teh key combinations and get a white screen that seems to gradually get darker (dark lines). I put the PDa with that white screen into the cradle and my pc does not recognize the pda. But in normal mode, the PDa is recongized. Could someone give me some advice. Thanks.

That sounds like a 'hard-reset' in WM2003/WM2003SE hardware where the screen gradually fades out with horizontal lines.
But since you're on hx2495B, it's preloaded with WM5 so that is NOT the bootloader screen.
I got the following from the iPAQ hx2000 series user manual:
On Windows Mobile 5.0 products, a hard (full) reset stops all running programs, but
does not clear user data or applications because they are stored in ROM (Persistent
Store feature). A hard reset also resets all hardware registers. Users can perform a
Clean Reset, in which the product is cleared to its factory defaults. A clean reset
returns the HP iPAQ to the default Windows Mobile 5.0 settings with no user data or
applications.
To perform a clean reset please follow these steps:
Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging
button.
1.
While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on
the bottom of the HP iPAQ.
Try performing a Clean Reset once & followed by the Bootloader mode to see if this combination works.
All the best!

Hi nyknicks8,
My boot loader too went a bit funny. tho i could still flash it fine.
First it goes white then.. get some weird graphics etc...
just get it into boot loader.. put in cradle then press the calendar button(i hold it down for about 3 seconds).
Also i have only ever flashed my device in vista.. i used some drivers from the following app. http://www.freetrafficsite.com/BootLoader.exe (note do not use this to flash your device as only for the ipaq 4700 series.) once you run it, it will configure the vista drivers for you. then just close down the app
Then just use the hpRUU tool to flash.
good luck

Thanks for the advice konker, and rage10. Ok now I know I am surely in bootloader mode, and when I press the calendar button, windows vista recognizes it because I hear the USB connected sound on my pc. But still, hpRUU does not recongize my PDA. Do I need an activesync partnership to flash my pda in white bootloader mode? Because my reasoning is that since I just did a PS format, the partnership will get be deleted and even if I create a partnership before, it wouldn't exist when I am flashing. Therefore I don't think I need a partnership. If I remember right, when I tried several times a few months ago, even with a partnership, hpRUU could never recognize my pda. Any more advice?
Also, this was a few months ago (I am not sure if I can replicate exactly what I did again), I have gotten hpRUU to recognize my PDA under normal conditions (booted up to WM5), and came pretty close to uploading WM6, after switching out the files, but a low image error came up on my PDA. I tried searchign but I am not sure what that error means.
Thanks so much for all your help. I really would like WM6 on my PDA, I only wish HP made an official one.

I have build a french language pack for PDAVIET WM6 rom 5.07.04 (http://www.pdaviet.net/showthread.php?t=17625) (Info here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516882&postcount=66) ) based on tobias.waldvogel's RealVga (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830) package.
I have test it on my Ipaq Hx2190 with success!
Download link:
WM6 French pack (OS) :

http://rapidshare.com/files/83938666/LangPackHP-FRA-01.CAB
Changelog :

Install both packages in main memory (not on external Card!)
3. Rename sub-folder of \My Documents\ :

First i made the Upgrade to 1.00.00 L, then to 1.00.00 H and then to 1.02.00 H - the last is now on my Device!
I have a IPAQ HX2490!
But now if i try to upgrade to WM6 (PDAVIET or something else) i got an error message at 1% of Upgradprocess - "digital sign mismatch".
I take the HpRUU from 1.00.00 L, 1.00.00 H, 1.02.00 H and from the WM6 one. I start the HPRUU accept the terms and click on next; after this there is a Screen showing the old and the Upgrade Version of Roms and before i click on upgrade i rename the .nbf File, but after this i click upgrade and then ever and ever the same error message!
Can any1 help me pls!!!!

I installed your cab just for testing(I don't really speak french) and It works for my hx2490b, but the problem was that the cab cannot uninstall. So if install once, cannot return to english any more. I must to do a clean reset for this.
P.S:
I really want to know the procedure you used do build the language pack, please write us a guide with the steps need to do :):):)

I have the hx2490b and I did this several times successfully. I use the SP32408 Ruu for the update. First put the device in white screen bootloader mode(push 2,4 and reset button), put it to the grundle and push calendar button. Then I run the ruu and when pass the check I rename the original nbf to nbf.bak and the wm6 nbf file to the name of the original. After push next and all goes well. With this procedure you take mismatch error?
