Unbelieveable... it's working great. I give you 100x heaven greetings! _O_

For noobs:
Just unpack SoftSPL in the (selfmade) directory (for example /softspl/), choose ROM you want flash, then put only nk.nbf in same directory /softspl/. Nothing more!

Now connect to pc, ActiveSync should activate and connect with device.
If ActiveSync is online, run START-sSPL and take a cup of coffee.
Make sure you don't something too much on the pc, close all programs is better for succesfully ROM upload procedure.
Wait with patient, you see linux pinguin, suddeny white screen, then wait for Uploadtool (same as original RUU ROM) window, just follow instructions on your pc, upload starts.
By 99% it needs some time for 100%. Then your device reboot and you're ready to go! Have fun with new ROM.

The soft SPL has worked great on my MDA Vario G4 CID locked. Simply followed the instruction and used G4 safe ROM (TNT with touch flo). Everything went fine and now have WM6 on my device. I tried the Shell Tool couple of months ago and didn't succeed with me. Great tool. Thanks

You need your eyes checked ;)
There is nothing in the opening post about needing 2.21.xx
Please read OP again (Carefully) because failing to understand but proceeding anyways can brick your device.

Be careful with the radio ROM, also make sure you don't flash IPL/SPL (this could brick your device).

I have flashed my device yesterday from my WM6 rom back to the original qtek (2.18.7.06) NL rom, dan then with SoftSPL to the new Black Diamond 3.1

I read the wiki very carefully. Followed all steps for G4 device up to loading the ?Soft SPL stage. Got a linux penguin screen on my device [o2 mini s] with some green text referring to a preloader; the last line saying 'loaded...'

As the screen didn't go white I didn't proceed with the Phone ROM update utility. What is the significance of a white screen over a black one with a penguin other than their colours. How can I rectify or move forward - did I need to wait for something or have I done something wrong? Unplugged the device and had to remove the battery to get it back - all OK.

Would really like to u/g to WM6 but anxious not to 'brick' my spare Wizard, naturally 8-)

You have to use ActiveSync as Guest, that should work. I remember I had to do it like that, otherwise, only a black Tux screen ;)

ok, maybe this is a dumb question but I cannot figure it out for the life of me. it says to extract the nk.nbf file from the rom you chose. well when I download the rom (blackdiamond 3.1) it is a .rar file, from where does the nk.nbf file come?

Yeah...so did I (the penguin) then after a short time lost sync (as guest) and "ERROR 260" then the program quit.

I had to soft reset (fortunately) everything came back as original. So now I'm still trying to find something that works.

The Wizard Service Tool doesn't work I've even transferred the 2 cab files f/pg 1 and ran from the phone...nothing but errors

hi,
i had downloaded g4 sage rom before; however, i was not sure if my kjam was cid locked. i am in india and i had bought the mobile from a shop and loaded my prepaid SIM. So, the carrier did not supply the mobile. but, whenever i flashed it always returned to the wm5 that was installed. i had used shelltool before, on a XDAII i had sold but i was attracted by the newer sspl. first time i ran sspl, there was no white screen just the penguin!!!. i ran it again, i got update errror. i ran it again after stopping all unimportant process in my xp computer, removed the cd from the drive and flashed again - IT WORKED!!!! i flashed the XM6R5, then Khan's then ti2 and found all working. interesting fact is that i had forgotten about the sd card but it sailed safe!!!!

i am now interested in cooking my rom. i will be doing it shortly; will notify when successful.

I have a P4300. I attempted to upgrade to [WM6.1] Prophet ShadoW 2.0 TE
while running wizard love 2.26.10.2_wwe novii cf2
the boot screen shows:
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.0lip
GSM 02.25.11
OS 5.2.20.21
AKU 2.23

It then shows the HTC logo and remains there. I can get to bootloader, by holding the camera button while doing a soft-reset. but activesync doesn't recognize the device . Is there a way to transfer a rom to the device without the activesync connection?
Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

however i hastily continued and flashed my OS that now says 6.0.0.1 it was a safe rom the touch flow one here for the g4 wizard.
However i'm guessing that since my spl was wrong, that is why it failed. error was something like can not run something.exe

So... now i'm stuck at the bootscreen HTC that lists this info. I tried the hold down voice and camera button but that just restarts the phone back to the bootscreen.Maybe i'm doing it wrong? idk

Is there a way to reset this or fix it... or am i out the $ for a paperwieght.

umm... just found out that if i get to the bootscreen that is bared with red green blue white... and i plug in the cable there is a smal usb text in the bottom left. however activesync does not trigger (turn green or connect. however, there is a pc connect ping sound, and it seems that i can navigate to my mobile from my computer however there is nothing there/ on it. when i run the wizard service tool though, it can not connect to the device.

So i figured out how to do the factory reset. but it says hit send. then it looks like it formats it but when i restarts it still takes me to the same boot screen with the ipl/spl and shitty broken flashed OS
....sigh... please help : (

Well,I presume the 'SoftSPL' was not installed successfully on your phone,as you say the ipl changed but the spl remained the same,if it had been successful,you shud have had SPL version 2.21.olip,as instructed by the-equinoxe :
"DO NOT PROCEED WITH RUU if the screen isn't WHITE, OR when in bootloader SPL version isn't 2.21.olip"
Reread the guide again throughly and do it correctly.

Well right now my phone is working 100% with wizard love rom going. I'm a little more paranoid now about doing this again.

For my g4 safe rom. I want to make sure i understand this. Does the sspl-s.nb from wizard love count as one. i'm know that's noobish but since i bought/my carrier is a local wireless group called Centennial. There is no clearly defined safe rom out there that says hey this is for you 1% people that use Centennial. i'm sure they run off some t-mobile or other venue but is there any way to tell what safe rom i should or could be using given my Centennial condition.

After mr.white screen the spl should be changed or by-passed right.. that's the point of it i'm guessing. Is there a way to check to see if my CID is unlocked/bypassed before i try and run the RUU. Like with the wizard service tool? or should this not be a problem.

I think before my problem of why my SPL didn't change was because i used a T-mobile g4 safe-rom and it didn't like that. I'm i right in thinking this?

Also, what does the program do if you do not copy a sspl-s.nb in the softSLP. Does it run like normal and not change the SLP or unlock the CID? I'm guessing the T-mobile one was either not recognised or was not the right one??

I'm going to wait to hear back from someone before i try this again.

i need help!! i followed the sticky on the G4 from equinoxe on how to hard flash it..step by step..and it was going ok..until when the hareet app starts to load that turns my screen white..it always disconnects from the host pc..i tried it about 5-8 times..everytime the RUU would update (the 2 times that it even reached that stage) it would disconnect..leaving my phone in the white screen mode 7 times..and in the 3 color bar mode once..then i would just shut off and turn it on and everything's back to normal..any thoughts? thanx in advance..

I have tried now 2 different roms that are wm6.1 roms... The first is OCTAIVOI v6.3 and the second is SNN 2.0.

Octaivoi had an ExtRom in it - when I ran Start-sSpl it copied the files, and then came up with some writting in green and stayed that way till it started the update, then saw the progress bar on the wizard... It stops at 84% and errors out the updater. I soft reset (remove batt) and come back to the bootloader screen. I flash the official tmo rom. I know, Its supposed to be a white screen. Every other rom I have done has had this white screen and I have flashed lots. Maybe the ExtRom?

You mean a black field, a picture of a pinguin and green writing?
That means that the softSPL isn't fully loaded.
You would see the HaRet screen.
Retry the Soft SPL until the screen is white. DON'T flash UNLESS the screen is white!
DON'T FLASH OFFICIAL ROMs USING Soft/Hard SPL!!!
If You do, remove the SPL/IPL First.
Soft and Hard SPL will allow you to flash ANYTHING to your device (so also the bad things which will brick your device).
Returning to official ROM isn't necessary.

Because it worked for you in the past, what have you changed lately to the OS configuration? Everything to do with USB drivers (any!) since the last working flash.

I flashed Merlin_Reloadeds slim rom with out a hitch... This was one of the roms on my to try list... Same process as any other rom...

Official roms use the official RUU....

Thats why I was wondering if it had something to do specificly with those roms.... but the OS load area is still the same... the 0800040000 something or other... I dunno... I stumped... hehe...

The other 2 roms, I didnt see the penguin... if the screen goes white, I see the penguin for a tiny brief second before it does.

But for now, I suppose I will give Merlins a try.

I have 1 Qtek 9100, I try to Unclock CID, I got enoght tool for Unclock, But when I need to copy nk.nbf ( I don't know where to find it, the safe G4 ROM ) . If you think which one is best please send to me.
First, my IPL/SPL : 2.18.0001, but when I use the nk.nbf of Vodafone QTEK 9100 IPL/SPL. the process is successful, but the IPL/SPL become : 2.17.0001. and when I start upgrading, there is an error. Somebody help me. many thanks

Hello everyone, I've come for help!

I've read through this thread and found it to be the most informative, but at this point I am still not able to get my Wizard flashed from the T-Mobile MDA flash to the Cingular 8125 flash.

I have unlocked the phone via the unlock code provided by TMobile. Before that I had the HardSPL unlock installed ( Olip bootloader ).

I've reverted back to original as I can get, here's what's currently on the phone:

IPL: 2.25.0001
SPL: 2.25.0001
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.26.10.2

I hard-reset the device, formatting it and all. Right now it's sitting as an unlocked, unbranded phone, only identifiable as TMobile by the logo on the front, and the bootloader screen. I prevented all the TMobile crap from loading up by soft-resetting the device after the hard reset.

I have tried just about every possible method I can find to get the AT&T/Cingular flash on to this device, and nothing works. Most recently, when trying to use this softSPL flashing method, when I copy the AT&T nk.nbf file over to the directory I'm using, everything works fine up until I get an Error 238. It currently has an AT&T SIM card in it, and works, but I want to get the AT&T flash on the phone to make sure all the features, etc are good. Plus, I'm just OCD like that. One thought I was having is that the TMobile OS version is 2.26.... where the AT&T OS version is 2.25... could this possibly have something to do with it?

I'm at wit's end. Please help!

Also i managed to flash to Love ROM without softspl, only with RUU_NoID.
But when i try to flash any WM6 G4 safe rom (mine is G4) with RUU_NoID, after the Hard Reset it's Love ROM again. Most likely its CID locked, but I'm not sure.

Excellent work with this tutorial. I tried every flashing method described in this site and believe me, this is the most straight-forward that I ever used before.

Hope this tool keep being updated more often to improve its method (I mean a GUI for the hole operation by example).

Ok, I'm a noob... and I'll be the first to admit that. I also do not expect a response seein ghow no one has responded to this thread in a while, but this is getting old and I really want to get a new rom.

First, let me say that I did not just decide to ask the question. I have researched this, tried about 30 times and about 4 days straight now to get this damn thing to work, but for some reason the only ROMS I can get to work at CanonYang (which is supposed to be HARD SPL) and Open touch. No other rom works and I am not sure why. I have tried Soft SPL, Re-Hard SPL, just using the ROM... everything.

Usually I get a 222 error, but I have had a 234, 264, 260 and a number of other errors. My screen does go white for each of these loads, but then nothing happens... just the error and I am forced to remove the batt to even get the thing to turn on again.

Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong? I think it might be useful to say that my IPL and SPL both start with 4.xx and now my SPL is 4.70.Yang. So, theoretically, from what I have read I should just be able to use and RUU and update the wizard. But, it doesn't seem to be that simple.

Please help.

Are you sure you have a HTC wizard?
I haven't seen a SPL 4.70.yang yet on a wizard, because it's an HERALD hard SPL..

Are you able to flash Herald Roms now?
The device is already hard SPL'ed so please be carefull not to flash a ROM containing IPL/SPL.
Most (not all) hard SPLs take away the safety net, although Olipro and Pof also made flash-proof hard SPLs (meaning the spl only can be upgraded with special procedure, and not a normal flash).

Can I use SoftSPL for a G3 Wizard?

I hade a broken G3 Wizard and had to relock it again and flash the original ROM. The replacement Wizard was a G4. The Display didn't work after 2 weeks and I noticed that it was so easy just to flash the original ROM. Now I got a G3 again and I wonder if I could keep it locked and use SoftSPL to flash it.

you can't flash a G3 with a g4 sspl or Hard SPL, hard spl would break your device.

Hello everyone. Fist of all, I would like to thanks in advance for any help you guys could offer me. Here is the deal: I've tried using the softSPL method to install the newest TNT wm6.1 rom into my wm5 G4 (I'm sure) wizard. The process goes smoothly at the beginning, with the white screen showing on my device. However, as soon as the RUU window shows, so i could begin the flashing process, i lose my activesync. Simply the green ball representing the connection disappears when i reach it with the mouse (it doesn't turn to a white ball, it disappears completely and i lose my connection with the device).
Since i didn't read anything like it on the instructions, i assume there is something wrong?

I'm running this process on my windows xp pro and the SPL and the other one is 22.0001 or something like it. Also, sometimes i tried clicking on the next button on that RUU screen and when it is about to flash a error message appears (something like the flashing coudn't be done) and i have to cancel the process. I'm in terrible fear of bricking the pocket phone...what should i do?

One more thing, that RUU window doesn´t show anything about the rom on that "rom information" section, even the screen inside the virtual pda is pitch black without any logon of the TNT rom...

Please, help me solve this problem! Thank you again for your patience in reading all this stuff!!

Nowadays all cooked roms don't include bootloader files (IPL/SPL), thus making them G4 (and G3) safe.

But if you want to be sure simply use WST and check the nk.nbf file as the tool as an option to verify what is in a ROM ;)

Maybe you should check there... although you say your phone has an Olipro bootloader which is the same as having it already unlocked. So you should read the wiki and other threads to know what you have in your hands.

hello, finally i could run HARD_SPL utility, because i have windows home edition and always give error, i made it in xp professional and now i have this:

1st this is the SOFT SPL thread, You already have the HARD SPL.
Don't Use them together.

In the topic start (of the HARD SPL) there is a link to Mun's RUU (Rom Update Utility).
Use that one to flash.

I sent info from Wizard Service Tool v4.2.2 And surprisingly I feel like "yeehaw, I did something right" :eek: . I gather the project could use a few more flavors of roms. Get that good feeling, send the kid your rom. Its cheap and easy to do.

It may clear up the hard/soft spl thing for you. I thought probably hard spl would be the way to go since I could care less about warrantee on a phone that was supposed to be dead to begin with in a $20.00 Ebay deal.

A tinkerers suggestion would lean toward the level of access permissions your login account on your desktop. Check Microcrap updates. Possibly Re-install activesync 4.5.

If microsofts end is having a brain attack it has gone way over my head. I will run that tool this evening when I am back at the desktop and see if it has any mention of RemoteAPI errors or restrictions.

Interesting puzzle to mull over. Not one I have run across personallly yet but interesting all the same

I have been reading xda-developers wiki and forum for some time now.

I tried SoftSPL with no luck. I tried HardSPL too, but it could not get past the SoftSPL stage.

I did manage to update to a newer WM5 ROM using shelltool.

When I tried shelltool to get a WM6 ROM, my phone would stay at the IPL/SPL splash.
I thought I killed it.
This took some reading to get back to a working ROM.

After licking my wounds I decided to try again.

Here's the news:

I ran clear storage to totally wipe my phone and I hit reset to stop the auto-install of Cingular's Extended ROM.
I connected to my Windows XP computer and canceled to stay a guest.

I then ran HardSPL. It ran so fast I thought I messed up, it said the correct IPL/SPL when it started.
I did a soft reset again to confirm.

I flashed a TNT WM6 ROM, but had issues with battery life and what programs were in the ROM (old versions).

I read some more forum pages. Catch the theme -- READ.

I now have TNT WM6.1 and am very happy. I was able to flash straight from WM6 to WM6.1.
I had to use ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID to do it.

WST shows the information below.

I posted to both SoftSPL and HardSPL forums since this may help both methods. I saw where someone tried this on SoftSPL, and it did not work for them. I only did HardSPL after clear storage so I cannot say if it would have worked for me, but I think HardSPL does a SoftSPL first.

I make no guarantees, but maybe this will help someone else out there not able to get SoftSPL or HardSPL to work.

Motivated by a morbid sense of curiosity, I'm wondering if you could please annotate what improvements and or disimprovements you have noticed in the 71 over the stock 25 version?

On my stock 8125 it seems like it takes forever to connect WiFi and the connection to my home portal is easily lost. I had replaced my ancient SBC home portal with a newer model which can accomodate 4 ethernet ports. Something I had needed for some time. The WiFi on this newer portal really seems about the same as the older model. So, I am leaning toward the thought that this 8125 could use some juicing up.

I did not have problems with WiFi connecting or dropping off before upgrading. Running 802.11g at home and the office.
I just had been reading about the latest radio and since mine was so low (25 vs 71) I decided to flash it too.
Probably a little high on the success of finally being able to flash I could not stop. I know that could have been dangerous.
I have noticed my new ROM/radio seems to connect to previously set up connection points very quickly.
I have only had the new ROM/radio a few days.
It seems the battery runs down quicker. I do not know if this is the ROM or the radio. Perhaps someone else could direct you to a forum that discusses that advantages of 2.19 UK versus 2.71.

Power drain is not a really pressing issue in my case.

Nearly every place I set down to check the mailbox has a USB or Ciggie lighter close at hand. So, in my case it is more the annoyance for the wifi connectivity part. Of course this will be a moot point soon with the new N proto becoming ratified sometime in our exhisting lifetimes. Which will of course mandate either a new pocket thing to carry around and keep the GPS locator company or, gasp, buy a new device.

The HTC 6800 is not a wizard, these SPLs are Device Specific.
Soft SPL was never intended to use with a mogul.

Don't feel bad, I know it is a bit confusing. It took me a week of "when available scanning" to run across what the difference was between wizard G3/G4. The Wizard I found for $25.00 on Ebay sold as dead. Is a "Cingular 8125 (G4)". And fortune had it that it merely had a hairball on the battery contact. Air hose cleanout, a full charge, and this one has served faithfully for the couple of months I have had it.

You have HardSPL based on those IPL/SPL. It is a semi-permanent form of SoftSPL. Suggest you read here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320) and here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342744).

I have learned that you cannot run softSPL or HardSPL from bootloader. I did see in somewhere about recovering from your situation. Try reading this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276963)and see if it helps..

After trying many things and coming up against a few strange problems I have finally managed to get an old wizard love rom on the G4 Wizard.

On boot it shows

IPL 3.08.0001
SPL 3.08.0001
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2


Can you tell me the best and SAFEST (i dont want a brick) way to get a nicer rom on there and perhaps suggest a nice ROM for me? (yes i know there is no "best ROM" but something decent that alot of people like)

I have read many forums on here and dont mind being redirected to one, but the problem is there are so many and the overload of information is a little mind boggling and I wish to tread with caution on this one!!

btw its only a 200mhz processor and Im unsure whether to overclock it and own it or just leave as is.

From what I gather I should use the Method 1 - Shelltool and pick a ROM from that list??

I do not understand. If you are truly unlocked, I would think you would not need ShellTool to install the new ROM. You would be able to use noidupgradeutility.

How did you get to where you are with your phone (Wizard Love ROM)?

Did your phone start with the IPL/SPL that is in your post?

I thought G4 cannot be unlocked, but only tricked through SoftSPL or HardSPL.

I am running without overclock and have been satisfied with the operation of this ROM.

BTW I have used all three methods on my phone. ShellTool - HardSPL - SoftSPL

I got to this stage by downloading a wizard love rom installer and ran it from xp. It was in swedish or something like that, however i navigated through it and it went through 0-100%, powercycled phone and bingo.

I origanlly had an extended rom or bloatware from tmobile and i found a tool to format that. So that is gone.
Then i tried to flash a faria cooked rom and it crapped itself.
was stuck on bootloader only displaying the colours and
IPL 3.08.0001
SPL 3.08.0001

I freaked! But managed to get the wizard rom working as mentioned above.
However I hear there are far nicer roms and everybody is telling me to go to 6.1

Just need a little guidance before I jump in the deep end

I am just concerned from threads I have read having led me to believe that you cannot do what you said on a G4.

I have read where people have gotten Wizrd Love ROM on a G4, but could not get anything else to install afterward.

It appears your phone came with IPL/SPL 3.08 and is still CID locked.

HardSPL will give you a semi-permanent unlock.

The trill of accomplishment. I know how you feel. I hope you have many trouble free hours with your wizard. Unfortunately mine passed away. It turned on one last time and just kicked the bucket.

I donated it to an independent tech that repairs them. I have been using another model the last couple of months, an 8525. Similar. And, would like to have one find me that has onboard GPS.

I found a tomtom5 on ebay and installed it on the 8525. In conjunction with a bluetooth sat locator it is great. No wasted time backtracking or pondering over lame directions. Just, Bam. Home right in.:D

My understanding of the "wizard" is that it's an 8925/Hermes/etc
I have an ATT tilt aka tytnII/8929/kaiser/etc

Have I crossed paths with the wrong stuff here. My SPL# is 1.56.0000 which designates it as a G4 device. Is it a coincidence and has nothing to do with G4???

I'd rather NOT.
The vario is a t-mobile branded version of the wizard..
Trying to use hermes stuff (HSPL or ROMs) would probably brick it.
