HTC Wizard SoftSPL (sSPL) For G4 Wizards

FAQ:
What is SoftSPL?
-SoftSPL is a patched SPL that will temporary unlock your CID (untill reboot).
-It will be copied to your device and loaded (BUT NOT FLASHED!), the device is tricked to believe it has SuperCID (More accuratly g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel will be 0 ).

Why Temporary?
-1st because of warranty, since there is no CID block written, warranty isn't void
-2nd with this tool it's not necesarry to have a permanently unlocked CID.
-3rd it's safe, it doesn't flash CID block or IPL/SPL by it's own, but choose your ROM you want to flash wisely!

Isn't shelltool the same?
-no shelltool will strip the rom, and then flash it with pdocwrite, where sSPL is a bootloader which says it has supercid, thus tricking the RomUpdateUtility.

But can I make it permanent?
-Yes it can make it semi permanent, with HardSPL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320) (it's the same trick, but now a patched SPL is flashed to device).

What does Soft SPL change on my device?
-nothing, it's loaded into memory. Only the ROM you choose to flash with the RUU will change your device.

USE AT OWN RISK

How To use?

If you don't know what a G4 safe ROM is, don't even try to upgrade!
WILL NOT WORK IN VISTA
-Unzip SoftSPL.zip
-copy the nk.nbf file from desired G4 safe ROM to the SoftSPL folder
-Fully Connect to ActiveSync
-Run START-sSPL.exe
-the Screen of your Device will turn white, don't panic, this is normal
-SoftSPL will now run the RUU, proceed as usual (the screen of the wizard will stay white during whole process, again don't panic!)
DO NOT PROCEED WITH RUU if the screen isn't WHITE, OR when in bootloader SPL version isn't 2.21.olip

G4 Safe means:
-No IPL/SPL and no Extended ROM.

Many Thanks Go to:

Olipro: For patching the latest SPL

SAA044: For testing all the versions, and keeping his head cool when the first hardSPL killed his Wizard (beyond repair!), and for keeping on testing the new versions with his brand new Wizard!

Whiterat: For all his technical and moral support, without him it wouldn't have excisted.

Pof & Des: From whom I took the idea, and some of the scripts.

NB. This sSPL is not for G3, it will proceed with updating, but in the end OS will not be written, tested it with my own G3. Beware of the SPL/IPL (there is danger to flash G4 spl on your G3 due to the fact you are using a G4 sSPL, the RUU will probably think it's running from a G4 device!).
NB.2 If you want to mtty in stead of flashing a ROM, place mtty in the folder and rename it 2.exe ;)

I updated the file for a confirmed working RC1 (v0.1) WITH the missing dll

23.09.07
Some people reported that enable rapi does not always work, if that is the case for you, you can try to replace the original enable-rapi with the one attached here.

First, you're welcome.
2nd Please keep in mind you need IPL/SPL 2.xx.00001 for WM6 (use the latest officcial one from your provider)
3rd It's not different from an ordinary flash, you can go back to any ROM that is G4 safe.
4rd G4 safe means no IPL/SPL (Extended ROM hasn't been tested yet)

For anyone interested i did it like this!!!!

1. Flashed back to latest origenal rom.

2. Copied the file into shelltool directory to verify the ipl/spl status. (Normally most roms here dont have ipl/spl in it, never hurts to check though.

3. Used wizard service tool to make sure the enable rapi command is installed on device.

4. Copied the desired nk.nbf file into softspl (root) folder.

5. Ran the main exe file without errors and had wm6 flashed successfully.:)

Most of the roms on this page should be G4 safe.

The ones I have tested up till now is the wrcx, TNT and SNE 3 ones. Try what I said in my previous post, that might also work for you. :) What error did you get by the way, a 620 errors that said it could not communicate with device?

I tried and it didn't work at all. I tried 3 times already from the time I downloaded the rar and still no success.

First time I tried it I had Titanium 2 installed and it was a no go even though the IPL/SPL were 2.26.0001

Then I tried twice using the official T-Mobile rom with IPL/SPL 2.26.0001 and followed the directions provided to a t and no success...

I am going to try once more tonight since it is 3:25am and then im giving up for the night.

Oh and I am trying to flash faria's rom. Think that might have something to do with it?

Can you give us more detail to where you get the error and what it is? Also did you flash origenal rom with softspl or bootloader? Oh and if your device asks for permission to load the dll files it wont work.

Here is exactly what my device is doing:

I flash back to the official T-Mobile WM5 rom for the 2.26.0001 IPL/SPL adn then let customization finish and then try to softSpl but with no success. On my MDA, it asks me to confirm something and the screen never turns white like it is supposed to do.

I have tried this several ways and on 2 different roms.

I have tried flashing back to T-Mobile official but skip customization 2 times and use softSpl to flash faria's rom and it failed. I tried once after waiting untill customization is complete and installing faria's rom and it failed once again.

I also tried installing cert_SPCS.cab and installing enablerapi.cab prior to running softSpl 2 different times, once before customization and once after customization. both times failed. this time I was using Black Diamond 2.0 instead of faria's rom to see if it was just the rom.

Not once did I ever get the white screen and not once did it flash successfully using this method.(At least not for me)

This is quite strange, as both versions worked on my pc, and for flashing I run a stripped down version of xp. Are you guys trying to do this in Windows Vista? I tested all these in windows xp with great success. Ask Equinoxe to upload beta 1 if he allows it or I can also, wich consisted out of batch (.bat) files, that one worked great. I have beta 1 with me but unfortunately can and will not upload it without his permission. I can also add that wizard service tool did the trick for me. I will test RC1 and final release again and give feedback when I have done so.

Here is the Rc1 release.

@saa044 I am @ work, so I don't have access to the files :(
Did you retest with the version I posted today?
It has small changes to make the dir cleaner (lesser files).

If it fails on your PC also, you can upload the latest version you tested with great success (RC1 it was I think).
Let me know (by PM) if the haret loads fully, and the sspl also.

To all others:
This should have been a "one button click" solution, this is the way we tested and succeed!

The files in the Local Settings\Application Data I listed in the former post can all be deleted.
The SoftSPL.exe will renew them.
A bad unpacked file could cause a non loading sSPL..

After the softspl was placed on the phone, don't disconnect it, and don't start activesync!
If the screen isn't white, don't proceed with the Ruu, only if the screen is white or the SPL shown has version 2.18.olip (can't because haret doesn't rebuild the screen).

Teimujin
12th September 2007, 12:41 PM
I've done what you ask, activesync is killed by softspl and not loaded after, your program don't show any error, but I don't have a white screen always the same 3 color then screen with progress bar for normal flashing

I've seen that softspl is loaded but no error

SPL is still 2.17.0001

saa044
12th September 2007, 12:46 PM
Ok im gonna be booting into xp now to test all the verions I have including the new one. I said earlier I couldidnt flash without service tool, but that was with beta one, not the latest two, so keep that in mind. :)

SoftSPL is only loaded if your screen is white, OR if the SPL version in the tree-color screen hasSPL: 2.16.olip
Note the OLIP @ the end of the SPL!
If you have something different, you haven't got the sSPL but the original bootloader, in that case, haret did a F*ck-up.
Then you need to delete the files I mentioned earlier, try again, or try the RC1.

You can safely use the sSPL-RC1 file saa044 has posted:
unpack to root (c:\sspl)
put nk.nbf to folder
run the "START-sSPL.exe"

Thank you for this software as it is much appreciated. I am also having problems with this method like others.

I tried the soft spl but it didnt work. My phone was turned on (Not in bootloader) and i connected it to the computer and ran the software but nothing happened. no white screen and the screen came up with the update utility. but i knew it didnt put the new spl on it so i didnt run it.

Then i removed the files in application data like you said and it didnt work again. Then i tried the soft spl rc1 but whenever i click on the soft spl rc1 icon nothing comes up. Do i do all this with the phone in bootloader or with the phone turned on. Any help is much appreciated.

I have tried using the link nicram posted up and it works. Only problem is that the white screen comes up and the rom update utility says that its verifying information on phone and then says 'Error [260]'. I am trying to flash the TNT Professional plus HTC home. ANY IDEAS!!! :(

I am currently using the original t mobile rom that my phone came with.

I have currently added the DLL and the sspl loaded well. nice tux =P only problem is the RUU doesn't pick up my phone. I'm currently gonna hard reset to on my carriers rom and try it before the customization, thats the only way the RUU would find my device when I tried it with eqs first release.

EDIT!
Since I have to go out ill leave everyone with this.

I downloaded the RC1, Downloaded the DLL, Hard reset my device to before the operator customiization. enabled activesync. The run start-sspl. BTW if the exe keeps shutting down it means there is an error. try opening a command window and opening it that way. run start-sspl and then continue the RUU that should work.

I guess I got a little excited while i posted this.... apparently it went through the RUU and then ended up starting in my carriers rom... I'll leave you guys with that.

dharvey4651

I downloaded rc1 and then installed cert_SPCS and enablerapi and then soft reset and then tried running START-sSPL.exe and for what ever reason, it just pops up for less than a seccond and then closes and goes no further.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

EDIT:: I found the dll file and figured out where to put it since my directory is different than the one mentioned before and now everything seems to be working. The screen is white and is flashing as we speak. I will post results.

EDIT:: Everthing went flawlessly!! I am now using faria's wm6 rom which I have never been able to flash with shelltools. Thank you everyone for your amazing and hard work!!!

I have downloaded the new spl and have successfully flashed it. My phone turns off and the white screen comes on. But when the RUU comes up it goes to the screen where it says verifying information and then it stops. It says error [260]. What could be the problem?

dharvey I was wondering what rom you had before using the sspl tool.

also must I manually install cert and rapi?? or does the tool do that for me

The first time I got it to work, I placed the dll file in the folder with the rest of files from the rc1 folder and then used the T-Mobile official rom as a base and then just ran the START-sSPL.exe and just waited and then everything worked. I never installed cert or rapi...

UPDATE:: I was successfully able to, using RC1 with dll, flash from faria's custom wm6 rom directly to TNT 5.0 without any issues whatsoever. All I did was move the nk.nbf file to the folder with the rest of the files, started the program and success.

I just flashed my g4 with wizard love rom. Then i insrtalled rapi etc. I placed the faria`s aku 4 rom in sspl folder and try to run the start-sspl.exe. without success. What could be wrong? The same erro i get with ssplrc1 and dll files, which i moved in the sspl folder.

I am using win xp pro sp2. See picture [A MASSIVE PICTURE]

@ BADGUY999
Do not mix the files from both releases, delete the folder, and redownload the NEW SoftSPL from the topicstart.
The new one is complete, nothing (except the nk.nbf) has to be added.
Place it in the ROOT (ie. : C:\sSPL\ ) the characters in your name are probably not recognised.

Enable Rapi is not necesarry, it will been done by the program.

About Error 260:
this means that the RUU can't read device info.
Proceed with the following steps:
Disconnect the Device
Reset the device
Connect to ActiveSync V4.2 or higher (untill it completely is connected and has a partnership)
Rerun START-sSPL.exe
Do not unplug the USB cable, and do not try to start ActiveSync (even when the RUU ask you to do so!).

I did. I delete all the folders and download the new one which was posted earlier. And the new folder has the dll files included. But i get the error with this new folder , and with the older one, which i tried 2 hours ago. I tried to run the .exe file in win2000 compatibility and i get the same error.

What could be the problem??

the problem is probably your user-name on XP, the characters in your name aren't recognised, try moving the folder to C:\sSPL.

I just keep the whole SoftSPL-RC1 folder in My Documents and I put the dll file in the SoftSPL-RC1 folder and run START-sSPL.exe and as long as the nk.nbf file I am going to flash is in the same folder, it works flawlessly time and time again. It doesn't even seem to matter what rom you are flashing from or to. It just works. It's the best things to ever happen to G4 users. :) :)

No need in changing your name in the settings.
If it doesn't work on C: or D: I realy don't know why cecopy doesn't work.

Do me a favour:
Just when the ruu is started (before you clicked any buttons on the ruu), hover with your mouse over the ActiveSync icon in the systemtray, it should go away.

If it doesn't, right-click the system-tray, start taskmanager and kill wcescomm.exe (this should have been done already by the program).
Then proceed with the ruu (at a certain point the activesync icon will appear again, don't worry about that).

Last post before work.. Im doing one last try before i head to work... Everytime i try it successfully runs soft spl. then I use the ruu and it installs and the bar goes up normally to 100... the ruu confirms its done, and the wizard resets. once that happens it starts up to the exact same rom i had on it before hand. I have tried it with the c1ngular rom and with wizard love and no dice. ill post an update if i get it to work though. Thanks for your support and great job equinox

I closed the wcescomm.exe in taskmanager. The icon disappered from tray bar. I run the start-sspl.exe. I get the same error.

What do u mean when RUU started. I cant get to this point. Ruu should start automaticly after the start-sspl.exe.

same shity problem.

Are you shure it's a G4?
This happens to G3 when using sSPL:
sSPL is loaded, flashing completes, ROM is not updated!

Please post the exact IPL and SPL your device displays when rebooting.

It still gives me the same problem. Before i preesed any button on the ruu i checked and the active sync icon vanished and wcescomm.exe was killed. When i pressed next the wcescomm.exe came on again. Again it went to the part where it says verifiying information and just said error [260]

I have be using Vista to flash all other roms to my 8125 using shelltool, but don't understand why is that when yo flash the original rom from cingular on Vista it's work fine with the RUU and whe you try to flash another roms using RUU it's crash. Is there will be a release of this utility thats work on Vista?

Flashed with an XP Pro computer and worked on the first attemp to TNT 5.0 with touch flo

Thank to all that have be working so hard on this. ;)

@badguy999
Before reinstalling the whole XP, please try on an other PC.
I am looking in the error by cecopy, probably something simple.

@slod
ipl spl 2.25
Yes, that is a G3, it can be unlocked with different methods, this method is not for G3.

@Razuddin
please copy mtty.exe to the spl folder and rename it 2.exe (backup the other 2.exe by renaming it 2.bak.exe)
Then run the sSPL again, when it starts mtty connect to \\.\WCEUSBSH001
On the white screen press enter; you should get an CMD> or USB> prompt.
If you get CLIENT, then the sSPL isn't properly loaded.

On the CMD type: "SET 32 2" (without the brackets) and press enter.
in the last lines it should say:
g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0
if it tells you the level = 0, then kill mtty (do not minimise, but close/kill it), and run 2.bak.exe (the RUU), it should proceed.
If it tells you an other value, the sSPL isn't loaded properly.

I hate to gloat when there are still some people here that can't get it to work but I just wanted to update everyone as to whats going on here on my end.

I have to date using RC1, successfully flashed every rom I have tried without any problems at all.

Here is what I have done so far:

I downloaded the RC1 pack and unzipped to its own folder inside the My Documents folder and then downloaded the dll file and placed it inside the RC1 folder. I then flashed back to the official T-Mobile rom and let customization finish(i bet it would have worked if I hadn't let it finish but I had time to kill).

Then I ran START-sSPL.exe and just let it run its course and was able to successfully flash faria's "The Real Thing" rom and I had never been able to flash that rom before. From there, I copied the nk.nbf file for TNT5.0 into the RC1 folder and overwrote the one already there.

I then ran START-sSPL.exe again and let it run its course(Remember, I never flashed back to the official rom) and it flashed from faria's rom to TNT5.0 without any problems.

I have tried this with NBD8.3, TNT5.0, faria's The Real Thing, and now Black Diamond2.0 without ever going back to the official T-Mobile rom and still have not had any problems. It goes smoothly every time.

My reccomendation to everyone not able to get this to work:

First make 100% sure that your device is in fact G4. If it is then your IPL/SPL should look something like this: 2.25.000x. Mine is 2.26.0001 so mine is a G4. If your IPL/SPL look like this: 2.xx or 2.xx and do not have the trailing .000x at the end then your device is a G3. From my understanding, this will not work on a G3.

Seccond, unrar everything to its own folder and then place the dll I have attached in the SoftSPL-RC1 folder and copy the nk.nbf file from whatever rom you want to use to the same folder.

Third, make sure you have the latest version activesync(4.5) and are fully connected and syncronized. If you do not have the latest version of activesync, you can download it HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9e641c34-6f7f-404d-a04b-dc09f8141141&DisplayLang=en)

Finally, once you are connected and syncronized with the latest version of activesync, run START-sSPL.exe and let it run its course. When it is complete, it will terminate activesync and automatically run the RUU. Just follow the self explanitory steps for the RUU and let that finish. Your device will automatically restart itself when it is finished as well as getting a message on your computer screen telling you it is finished.

If this does not help, then I don't know what else to do to help but this is what worked for me.

Good luck guys!

Much appreciated,
Since I don't have a G4, I don't know how you guys had been feeling.

But I always wanted to hack this G4 problem.
Luckily now most of you guys can use it.
Thanks to Olipro, who has patched the initial HardSPL, since my hardSPL didn't work propperly, I could proceed with the SoftSPL (which is just a splitted version of the HardSPL with a single extra patch).
And thanks to Whiterat, who told me that the White Screen was due to a fault in HaRET, because I thought it was a crash (was expecting the three coloured screen) , and I almost trew the project away.
And Thanks to POF, DES and all the other guru's from whom I used knowledge, methods and scripts from..

The process works like on a butter. :) And its nice icon at the start (hint: linux)

Only thing that bothered me this first time is, that the proces of flashing from 99% to 100% take much time - about 1,5 minutes. I tought that is something wrong. But it wasnt.

Unfortunately I am unable to help work out the bugs with haret.exe due to lacking programing skills but I know how to make due with whats available to me and I am good at figuring things out so I'll be here to help, test, troubleshoot for as long as this project is here.

Going to try something a little different from what we have been here. I have built an nk.nbf file with splash screens, radio, and os included. I am going to try to flash it now and will report results as to whether it can flash other than just OS.

EDIT:: Happy to report that my custom nk.nbf file was successfully flashed. Here is what was included in the nk.nbf file:

TNT5.0 - I modified the operating system to 12MB page pool prior to flashing
Radio - 2.19.11 UK
HTC and Splash - Black HTC WIZARD boot and splash screens courtesy of badbert

All of this was in one nk.nbf file and was successfully flashed via SoftSPL.

My next adventure is to create my own extended rom and attempt flashing using SoftSPL. I'm probably not going to mess with it today but when I do it I will post my results for all to read and try.

DO NOT TRY TO FLASH A CUSTOM EXTENDED ROM WITH THIS TOOL!!! It will error out during the RUU process and leave you in bootloader mode having to flash back to your carriers rom or wizard love before being able to do anything again.

Just thought I would put that out there to prevent anyone else from trying something that will not work.

Im not sure man, all I know is me and the wife have the exact same setup besides memory sise and mine drains like a bat out of hell. Equinoxe told me it might be my mem card thats maiby faulty or something.

Yes, that too can be the reason. From my experience, when I used HTC Audio Manager to listen to music on the go, my battery would last a day... I've started using Windows Media Player for this and now it lasts for about 3 days (listen to music for 1 hour/day +/-).

Also, you should take in consideration how much does your wife use the phone exactly!

All files are there (except ls.txt).
So it must be something missing in the OS files. Hoped you could give some hints for the extra files it would use, so I can update my stripped XP.
Will find a "real" XP machine, and flash my Wizard.

Na bro, I have never listened music on it because of the battery issue. I wish I knew what was wrong with it as everything works perfectly on the k-jam.

The ls.txt is the directory listing I mad to post here, so that isn't in the rar file.

It's probably the stripped down XP.
On line 25 cecopy.exe should do it's work.
And since the file cecopy.exe excist in your directory, it must be something else.

Badguy999 also had problems with cecopy on a stripped down XP.
Where I also have a stripped down version, but I don't have any problems with it.

You'd have to open port \\.\WCEUSBSH001

I have just tried it with rc1 and without mtty on another pc with Windows XP sp2 and it seems to be working. I am currently writing the rom image. Will update with what happens :) :) :)

EDIT: I have just successfully flashed TNT 5.0 Professional + HTC Home and am using it perfectly fine.

You have a "keyboard/Chair interface problem", you own a cid-locked G3.
This was explained to you in january '06, july '06 and yesterday too!

RTFTS BEFORE USING THIS KIND OF SOFTWARE, IT COULD BRICK YOUR DEVICE.

That is a G3, so it's not compatible with the sSPL for G4..

Use mestrini's wizard Service Tool 0.4.0.0 to unlock it with ease.
You can also CID unlock the G3's easily with lokiwiz2b, never had any problems with it.
Both have excelent tutorials in their release threads.

I am not the one working on a totaly free CID application, Whiterat is working on that one.

Backup current rom can be done by R2SD command in mtty while in sSPL.
It is a well documented command in mtty.

Although we were just joking about the donation part of the hard spl we did in actual effect flash my phone last night with the hard spl in great success. I think the release will be held back for now as there is always a fear that some people might try to flash their phone and actually brick it, and that none of us wants. With great success with the soft spl some people still had difficulty flashing with it, so my guess is that equinoxe and olipro want to make sure it is 100% stable before publishing it, if ever. :D

That and because Whiterat is working on a true CID unlock.

Suggestion: Perhaps it would be a good idea to add a small application that will detect an ipl/spl being in the rom to be flashed and if it is detected simply won't launch the ruu.
edit: I deserve to be slapped for not reading
"it's safe, it doesn't flash CID block or IPL/SPL by it's own, but choose your ROM you want to flash wisely!"

WARNING: It can write CID blocks if the ROMs contains them
What I meant in the TS is: the sSPL doesn't flash the CID block, it writes the sSPL to memory, So the sSPL is totaly safe. That doesn't make the ROM you are flashing safe, be carefull and exclude the ROMS containing IPL/SPL.
(You are able to flash ROMs with SPL/IPL but they should be for G4!)

you can use typho5.exe to disassemble ROM to check if IPL/SPL is present:
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf

sSPL enters bootmode automaticly, that is the white screen... From there it automaticly runs the RUU.

On the TNT 5.0 rom released on september 13th there is a RUU that states that will run under vista, so i was wondering if you could use this RUU to replace the 2.exe on your SoftSPL Compilation to make a Windows Vista safe flashing utility.

I´m attaching only the RUU for vista extracted from TNT 5.0 Professional with HTC Home compilation.

Removed the attachment on RUU for Windows Vista.
It did not made the trick as a stand alone RUU for upgrading the Radio under Vista. It crashes on the same spot that the original RUU for XP.

I only tryed with the radio rom as it´s quite safer and probably it won´t crash your entire phone if something goes wrong... I think.

Anyway, I posted a reply on the TNT 5.0 thread in order to get some feedback from the compiler on how to use the windows vista RUU and if it really works.

I will keep in touch.

OK, you have bricked your G3
You haven't used a SAFE ROM, this rom you used contained IPL and SPL (I warned about using UNSAFE ROMs!)

Tmob rom 1.06 doesn't have the G4 IPL/SPL, it's G3 only.
Thus you forced it to flash a G3 IPL and/or SPL to it..

Of course the site you got it from is good, but it's an older ROM (pre G4).
And it contains SPL/IPL.
The original RUU won't let you downgrade, with our tools you can, thats why we flash safe roms.

There is no jtag solution for the wizard yet.

Thanx for help as all... I hope that I'll never make the same mistake..

I'm with you my friend. I also have a bricked kjam lying somewhere with i-mate tech support, but mine bricked because I was prepared to take a chance with the first beta ipl/spl unlock programme. Shit happens and we move on to the next k-jam. :D I hope your device is still under warrentee as you might be able to have it repaired for free.

It's impossible, becouse i have got this phone from UK -> I'm from Poland, and I don't have got any warrantee... :( So the only thing that I can do is to sell my phone as bricked on ebay or something or sell pat by part....

Well, I would direct all newbies to shelltools first... Shelltools are slower, but when anything goes wrong there, it is always possible to recover by flashing the officiall ROM. SoftSPL is nice, but it allows flashing dangerous things...
Frankly I would not use it before explicitly checking what is in the ROM (for example by "Get ROM info" button in shelltools).

obviusly, You need to know if the ROM is safe, but with sSPL is a lot easier to flash a ROM, and I don't know if shelltool is always safe ¿ are you sure that you can't brick your wizard with ShellTool ?.

Sorry for my bad english, I speak only spanish.

No, actually Shelltools only allows you to flash OS part of the ROM, being safe on that matter. But, if you wish to flash a complete ROM (without IPL/SPL), sSPL is the answer. You can flash in about 6 minutes VS 30 minutos on ShellTools... If you just make sure that the ROM you're putting is G4 safe, you're clear of troubles ;) And yes, you can still use ShellTools just to check if there's any IPL/SPL.

Because if you wrote wrong IPL/SPL your wizard will be dead and you can't flash it again!

IPL/SPL has the routines needed to boot up your Wizard.

I guess that explains it...

This would have happend too with an CID unlocked wizard if you used the no_id upgrade utility you need to downgrade and upgrade without checking current version.

The IPL/SPL are the bootloaders. Like the bios of your PC.
Without it, it wont start.

It needs the right SPL for the right chip:
G3 and G4 are different chips, so both need a different bootloader.
So if you write the wrong bootloader, it can't be used anymore.

Let me repeat myself (again).. If you don't know what a Safe ROM is, DON'T FLASH!
If you don't know what the difference in IPL/SPL is : DON'T FLASH.

To elaborate:
-You can flash a original rom without the sSPL.
Your device doesn't have to be CID unlocked to flash it's original STOCK ROM.

-If you use the sSPL make sure there isn't an IPL/SPL in it, or when you choose to flash a ROM with an IPL/SPL, make sure the bootloaders are suitable for your device (it's not recommended, but possible).

Good point metioning that:
the sSPL is NOT a real SPL.
it's not suitable for flashing..
It would probably brick your device.

You can use Typho5, http://www.savefile.com/files/1066484

Please follow these steps to the dot.

1. Extract typo 5 to root. "c:\typho5\
2. Copy the nk.nbf file of your os to c:\typho5\
3. Go to command prompt and type "cd\" "cd typho5" "typho5 -x nk.nbf
4. You will see the info in the command prompt regarding the os you want to flash. Please delete all files afterwards except typho5.exe and nk.nbf.

Ipl/Spl would have been included in the list of files stating ipl/spl. Hmmm I dont like the gsm.nb file to much, I think it might change your radio. I normally only flash roms that has os.nb and maiby splash.nb.

Didn't get it to work on a friends wizard. Tried it about 5 times. The screen went black after the penguin on the screen. One time it turned white, but the RUU couldn't find the device. Both IPL/SPL are 2.21.0001.

Did find the solution! Kind of a similar problem happend to the hardSPL from the Touch. If the flash doesn't work load enablerapi (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=46098&d=1186268099)manually! After this, flash goes just fine! Thanks for the softSPL!

You don't put it in bootloader, just connect the cable, the Hard-SPL is fully automated, just follow the steps.

What OS are you using?

What SPL version are you running currently?

File open error: did you pace the correct nk.nbf file in the folder?
Or was the file open error for another file?

G4 Safe means:
-No IPL/SPL and no Extended ROM.

means it is possible to create a flashable ROM (file) including OS and RADIO?

I have been using shell tool in order to flash OS only safely but need a downgrade because of that WM6 "missed call" issue. I cant falsh a older original T-Mobile ROM with a radio like 2.19 etc.

EDIT: just read you have to have SPL 2.xxxxx, means there is no way since my device has 3.08.0001???

hi there.

i did try it but had problems reporting that one of the rapi or the certificate files hadnt been run and the enable rapi button in wst gave odd errors.

i have since done a hard reset and then installed the two cabs manually by copying them to my phone then running and then ran the wst sucsessfully (and sent off my key block and dump :))

i will see how i get on, just making my wm5 how id normally use it so i can run a backup again before i do anything.

I downloaded from t mobile the latest rom / ruu for my wizard. If i dont like wm6 can i use this to flash back to standard again?

Yes, you can use t-mobile's latest ROM, iMate ROM or thier carriers ROMto bring the vario into it's original state.

there have been posts of others messing up thier wizards when they use t-mobile's latest ROM to bring the vario into it's original state...coz it flashed the G3 or G4 spl..
how do u chk 2 make sure or will the use t-mobile's latest ROM flash the relevent SPL...

Good point.

Use typho5 to check:
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf

IPL_2 and SPL_2 are the G4 IPL/SPL

You should delete the other (G3) IPL/SPL, rebuild the ROM using nknbf tool.
However, after rebuilding the ROM you need Soft SPL to flash.

is it as simple as deleting the ipl/spl or do i have to use hex editor etc as per the following post..especially steps 3, 4 & 5...

Its as easy as step 6 only ;)
Just don't include the IPL/SPL of course.

The speed of the ROM depends on a lot of factors:
- Available memory;
- Chef's work with dlls, registry settings and package handling;
- Page Pool value;
- Processor speed (overclocking)
- others i can't recall...

but i can say that it doesn't depend on the chosen method to flash the ROM :P

So with this I can flash any ROM onto my G4 device without using shelltool? Meaning I can use the update utility?

Yup, you don't need shelltool anymore.
Be careful what you flash though, flashing IPL/SPL is very dangerous!

I just used this instead of sheltool, works wonders! Thanks for all the people who worked on this :D

Might be an idea if I made a safe one too to prevent SPL/IPL flashing... although to be honest, people really should just apply Hard-SPL

This is the first time I upgraded the ROM and everything went really smooth. I used wizard_love rom.
I followed the steps religiously and could get everything working.

i install MDA original rom 2.21 some thing like this

So you installed a ROM containing IPL/SPL in it and you are not even sure what ROM?
That is just begging for a brick..

@LancerV
Have you tried another USB-port/PC?
We noticed that some "small footprint" XP installs didn't cope very well with flashing while in Soft SPL.

Rev4 of what?

never mind m8. he was 'cross posting' and placing same question in different threads. He's talking about dferreira's WM5 rev4 custom ROM but he also said he needed some sleep and that has already managed to flash it successfully.

cheers
