Activesync mobile password fails

i've been happily activesyncing over GPRS with our exchange server 2003 for months now. today i was forced to change my NT password on my desktop, so i would have to change it on my universal as well. no problem, i've had this happen before.

but this time it doesn't work. it keeps prompting me for a password. i've tried entering the password both through the device activesync, on the desktop activesync. i've hard reset and reloaded last weeks SPB full backup, and tried to change it. I've hard reset it and tried to setup just mobile sync from scratch. nothing works..... the only thing that's is materially different is i have used a special character i've never used before in the password. and now i can't change the password again for another 8 days (stupid policy) so i can't experiment with that.

i'm reaching for straws now... anyone have a clue?

ok, i went through morass of bureaucracy of our IT department and got my password reset so i could try to change to a different special character. all i can't say is do not use '@' in your password! at least that's what i suspect it was.

geez software is just to hard anymore.
