Both IMEI check and all 3 steps of Olipro's unlocker.
I do not have a freezing problem; have yet to try WMP so cannot comment.
Battery drain is a BIG issue. I have installed Midget's cab (thanks Midget) and the battery meter recommended by him.
I am draining abot 150mA without BT but with direct push (DP) enabled. Not much difference in the drain value with DP enabled or disabled. With with backlight on at minimum setting
BT Off, DP off: 148
BT off DP on: 150
BT on DP on: 190
BT on DP off: 155
with backlight at zero the above values decrease by 35mA
Occasionaly it bursts to 450mA (during sync process I suspect), but overall it's constant around 150.
Should this be the expected value. I read in a previous post that another device was drianing about 10mA on standby.
BTW: installed apps
iLauncher 3.0.5
SPSH clock 0.92
BatteryStatus 1.04
I have removed HTC home plug and the phone is set to GSM only (no 3G or H as these drain more power).
Hope this helps.
Edit: As I have just installed Midget's battery fix, I will not be able to comment on any change in battery life until tomorrow.
this is how the maths add up for you !!
you have a 2200 mAh battery and you are drawing a continuous 150mAh this equates to 14.5 ish hours of use until the battery is depleted plus you have bursts of around 500 mAh which will shorten the life too (every minute of use @ 500 mAh = 3 mins lost from my projected time of 14.5 hours)
I will also try to install this battery application when I have time !!

Would it work for XDA Flame?
What is "it" please?
Also, this is the Athena forum but let's see what you have to ask.

my problems seem to have stemmed from a corrupt sd card.
I put in a sandisk with just music files and its just peachy now. media player now behaving normally.
first card had files from wizard and digital camera on it which could of been conflicting even though i'd deleted msmetadata and wmdrm from it.
I think the hard reset after flash has helped too. Even snappier and no locks.
This device rocks.
Now to fill the microdrive with tunes an movies. hurrah

Should be possible to delete the link to STK services, when you connect to the phone provider? I would like to have less time needed to have operative the pda when you reset.
I cannot find the way, sorry.

If that CAB didn't fix the problem, I'm pretty sure it's an issue with your device. Everyone else that has installed the CAB has reported the battery issue fixed.
If I'm mistaken on this point people, please let us know now. The battery won't be perfect, never was. With radio 1.50, there is also additional consumption BUT better performance. Let's keep it real people.

From my part, I reported yesterday that my battery consumption was still terrible (even following installing the battery cab). However, my Ameo today is like a new beast (at least the battery is). Haven't made many calls but it has been on with DP and BT on full time since about 0700. Battery down to 70% - which is about what I got with the last ROM (and the 1.50 Radio). Well done - I think you've beaten it!!!!
Now that that's sorted, some suggestions for v3. Could we possible have a built in drinks machine and fridge - that's about all that's missing now.
Thanks

I will try. What happen in your pda when introduce the pin? In my case, appears a wellcome message from Vodafone plus a screen "STK services" when you can ask for diferent information to the mobile provider (now, if you have your pda connected to an operator, execute the program STK services and will have same results)
I found that the HTC wm6 upgrade didn't produce it, but the Dopod, that is the base of your work open this program.
As you see clearly i am not mother language english and maybe i don't explain clearly. I will try again if you don't understand.

Before everyone starts to ask what we did....Midget rewrote the launcher for the resolution changer. He made it smaller and also resolve the Media Player issue.
This team is GREAT and a big thank you to Midget for resolving the issue in a very creative way. Hats off Midget!

Let's try this. Install the app that everyone is installing to monitor battery consumption. Get some numbers recorded, see previous posts for samples, and let's see how yours is different from the others. I think by comparing across the board we'll get a better idea of what's going on. We want to find out if the numbers are right on with everyone else's or drastically different. With this additional information we can narrow it down, hopefully. There is always the possibility that you just had a bad flash or corruption on your device. Let's start applying a scientific method to this one and see where it leads us. :-)

I have volunteered my X7501 to Oli for reverse-engineering so he may modify his unlocker to be compatible with this device. If any of you gourmet chefs know how to get hold of him (he has not answered my PM) please do.
I would love to run this ROM once I can CID unlock my X7501 and will contribute to PK's Athena fund when I can install it.
Sorry about the cross-posting but I have gotten no response on the Athena unlocker thread...

PARTIAL SUCCESS!!! WMP WORKS - ONCE!
Okay, I just changed to 128DPI and then re-installed the patch - WMP works until I soft reset or change to 192DPI and back again...(Yes, I did give it time between install and reset to save the changed)
Is that by design of the cab or the same problem!

The suggestion to turn the library off in 192dpi did the trick. I'm now able to use WMP - which is great as I've not found another player yet that reliably accepts AVRCP. If there is one, I'd like to know as I could do with another player - I listen to two types of playlist, music that I want to shuffle, and audiobooks that I obviously don't.
As everything is now working, and I've finally been paid, I've contributed to the project fund finally. Here's hoping it won't be long before Pawel can enjoy the fruits of his, and everyone's, hard labours.
PS I've not had a problem with battery draining quickly on my black X7500, but I put the battery checker on anyway. While plugged in to my PC, it was reporting a drain of 344mA. That may explain why it takes FOREVER to charge that way. I was out all day, listening to WMP via BT, and my battery was down to 20% when I got in. I'd been out several hours so I expected that. Since then it's been sitting in it's cradle for about 6 hours, and battery now reads 30%. I'll put it on it's proper wallcharger overnight.

Battery test cab had no effect. Well, maybe 6-10mA difference, it's hard to be that precise.
I've just noticed that Battery Status reports +341mA when in the cradle (not the official HTC one, a cheaper alternative) that's got a mains supply and is connected to a powered USB hub, +271mA when connected directly to the wallcharger and 179mA when on its own, 94mA when the screen dims.
Am I right in thinking then that the "+" denotes it's getting more current than it's using (ie it's charging)? If so, that suggests the cradle is actually supplying more current than the charger, but the charger is quicker. Odd.
I'm turning battery status off now, as it's just crashed my X7500.

try the CAB file for battery problems. and if it doesnot help to anyone then install another radio version then 1.50 install 1.47 or 1.45 and it will then solve the problem. the difference between radio version 1.47 and 1.45 is that 1.45 gives better GSM signal and 1.47 gives a better 3G signal. any way here are the download links:
Radio version 1.45:
http://rapidshare.com/files/57601715/Radio_version_1.45.00.00.rar
Radio version 1.47:
http://rapidshare.com/files/57601585/Radio_version_1.47.51.00.rar
it will only change the radio version and the battery problem will disappear and you will get a normal functional battery.

So far upgrading or downgrading radio versions DOES hard reset the device. Use the backup software included in the ROM and restore when finished.
Yes radio version 1.5 is available seperately if you wish to go back to it there is another thread with a link.

Guys the topic keeps straying. Let's keep it on topic so we can focus on resolving Athena Project 2.0 ROM related issues. Just because you installed this ROM doesn't mean you should post questions that are related to applications you've installed or asking how-to do something here.
I'm also noticing repeat questions. People, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read before you start getting flammed. If you don't read it really makes you look careless or a little less intelligent than the average bear. I'm sure no one wants that.
Let's stick to the forum rules and move forward.

Hi all
i've hard reset my device (again!) and installed the WMP VGA fix cab. If I change to 128DP and then instsall the fix it now works fine, but if I change to 192DPI or 92DPI and back again it stops working and I need to re-install the WMP VGA fix.
Is this the same for others using the WMP FIX cab, or is there a way to have media player working in both 128 and 192 DPI without having to keep installing the fix.

Is this the same for others using the WMP FIX cab, or is there a way to have media player working in both 128 and 192 DPI without having to keep installing the fix.

yes thats the trick of how to use it

Whatever you do, DO NOT FOLLOW THIS ADVICE. Eventually the resulting feedback loop leads you to have to take very drastic action - not a hard reset but serious_overdraft.cab. You have been warned. Having tested extensively I would seriously advise installation of treat_em_mean_keepem_keen.exe straight after upgrading.

Guys...I have to make this very clear for those of you that don't seem to understand this RealVGA stuff.
RealVGA by Tobias or TrueVGA by another developer etc is not part of any Windows Mobile OS and therefore most applications (OS based or 3rd party apps) will NOT work 100% in RealVGA!
The OS's native dpi is 192dpi and so are all the programs written for it. RealVGA was requested by the community and here it is, but it will be some time, if ever, before it will be native to the WM OS and only then will apps be written specifically with that dpi in mind.
Meanwhile RealVGA is for those who want more screen real estate and don't mind being a part of the continuing development of RealVGA and other variants of it. If you want 100% compatibility with your apps, I suggest you stick to 192dpi...then apps like Mobile Shell will work as programmed. FYI, WA3 won't load under lower dpi's either, only in 192.
P.S. The ROM is perfectly capable of handling all of Spb's products in the intended dpi. Its the RealVGA that is not compatible with the different apps, NOT the ROM. RealVGA is just a feature for those who want it....just like HTC Home plug-in & Customizer.

Just a minor point, but WA3 works in all resolutions. There are no themes or icons available for 128dpi, but if you create some custom buttons it will work. I'm using WA3 at 128dpi... it just takes a little work to customize it.
Here's a quote from Chris McKay found in his support forum:
"WA2 does not support 128dpi. However, WA3 will, if you have a theme designed for it. I don't have a 128dpi default theme, yet. Those resolutions are still pretty new and I haven't had a chance to create the appropriate icons."

I have now run for several days with NO LOCKUPS and no screen corruption running with reakVGA at 96DPI and most of the provided CAB's from this release. What made the difference for me - appears be related to the Batti program. Once I deactivated it and removed it from the startup directory, no more lockups. I have since added back all other apps which I had previously suspected and still running fine. In a day or two, I will reactivate Batti to confirm that it is the culprit, at least for my dopod. :)

I can confirm that Batti was causing the issue. Here is why....we tested and approved a specific version of Batti for this ROM, well someone on the team decided to go grab the latest version which is buggy and causes screen corruption, random lock-ups and even causes the device to run slower. A few of us got together and noticed that immediately after disabling batti from the start-up we noticed further speed gains and no lock-ups after the action. Great job on those that also figured this out. Our plan is to test 3.0 more thoroughly and this time STICK TO WHAT WAS INITIALLY APPROVED! :-)
I also found another fix for those using the 6tab HTC Today plug. If you did not install it through the HTC Home Customizer, you'll have bugs. Here is how to fix it....remove the HTC Home Today plug....go to the HTC Home Customizer and let it install the Today plug. Once you do this, you can actually modify the tabs and remove ones you don't use. I've been using it like this and didn't experience issues.
Edit: After removing batti I just activated the batter meter in Magic Button. Same thing without the percentage steps and no side effects. I also run Magic Button in the place of the HTC Xbutton program.

Options are still in Programs - can I delete these too Or is there an easier way of deleting it? Would there be a problem with installing Batti 2.0 or isn't it worth it?

Another alternative to Batti is pBar. With it, you can kill 4 birds with one stone. (a) It is a battery indicator, (b) it is a launcher (up to 9 programs, very handy for screen capture, backlight adjustment), (c) it is a comm manager (works with all dpi) , and (d) it is a task manager to close and switch applications (better alternative to HTC X-button). It is free.

Give it a try and let us know how it works.

Yes it's freeware which is why we're considering putting it into the ROM. Check it out here and I do recommend testing it. IMHO, it's been the better task manager and I've tried many...but it also comes down to personal taste.
http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
Note that the latest release is a little buggy with three issues I've been able to identify thus far, but nothing that would stop me from using it: (1) the home icon placement is a little off in the newest version, but there is a registry fix for this posted to the AP 1.0 ROM...(2) the home icon sometimes moves around but if you implement the registry hack mentioned you may not notice this....(3) the color blending they resolved in this latest version does work but not in all theme's. This means it doesn't look at pretty as it should under all themes but I'm interested in the functionality before how it looks.
Hope this helps. Give it a try and give us your opinion of the software please.

I noticed my battery drain quickly once i installed it. Could of been a coincidence but i'll reinstall later to check.

I was under the impression that installing stuff to microdrive would be the best solution for adding apps without compromising speed, i didn't think about how it would affect the battery.
Thinking about it though if a today item is installed on the microdrive i guess it will permanently need to access it and thus use more power, i guess. (thats my thoughts but i know nothing about such things)
I'm on a nightshift later so gonna hard reset and start afresh and i'll see if installing my today items on my device reduces battery drain. (kind of a before and after).
Cheers for the suggestion Itxda

No problem bro.
If you have a today plug that takes constant measurements and updates then it'll cause your MD to spin up more or constantly hence draining power on your device. I think what we found was that using an SD card or Device memory for that type of stuff is best and using the MD for temporary function or functions when the device is plugged in is best. Maybe someone else can provide feedback also. I use my MD only for apps that require speed but I run temporarily or to store audio books and MP3/movies/etc. Plus I have 5 batteries for my poor little Athena. ;-)
Edit: One more thing...try to uninstall the program from the MD and install either to the SD or Device before you hard reset. See how that works for you.

I'm gonna hard reset anyways as i'm gonna try a different radio. My 3g/hsdpa is not as good as it is on my hermes.
Only catch with that is changing radios can affect battery consumption but from what i've read changing to 1.45 or 1.38 shouldn't make too much difference. 1.50 drained too fast for me although the reception was slightly improved.
My "little device" is in for some serious flashing tonight...

hi guys. this is what i have experienced:
started with PK1 rom with radio 1.50 = everything is ok.
1. 1st installation = PK2 rom = battery drains out within 5 to 6 hours
2. drains the battery + recharge + install fix cab for battery = same result
3. removed radio 1.50 and installed 1.45 = battery drains out within 8 hours.
4. reinstalled PK1 rom with radio 1.50 = back to normal(means it will last abt 1.5 to 2 days).
i guess as for me, PK1 rom is the best option; either rom, i want to say THANK YOU to the team..

Would you mind getting on an MSN session to see if we can isolate the cause? Just can't stand not knowing why it's only happening on a couple of devices.

Hi ltxda,
no problem. tell me when u r online. i am using a U1000 dopod.
another thing to add.
is it due to other programs?
i have tried to isolate if it is due to other programs.. seems like it is not likely coz most of the tests i have done is purely running on roms and nothing else.
is it due to upgrading from PK1 to PK2?
don't know. i did not hard reset. my upgrade history has been:
u1000 wm5 -> u1000 wm6 -> installed unlocker -> PK1rom -> PK2rom...
(200-700 mA) (400-900 mA)

I tried installing this, and got a message saying that I already have a newer version of mobile office in my device. It would not let me install unless I first uninstall the newer version. Is there a way to uninstall the existing 6.1 before I install this 6.1?
The reason I tried to install it again is because for some reason my excel would not start. I believe it is due to some file corruption. I was hoping that by installing this over the old one I could avoid a hard reset. However, there is no way it would allow me to install this.

I have to say this is a great ROM. I initially had the battery issue, but that appears to hve been at least improved by the patch. It's too early to say yet for sure, though. I can vouch for the fact that battery issues are to some extent normal after a ROM change while the device gets used to the battery. I also had the WMP issue, but that is a RealVGA issue and not specifically related to this ROM. I was able to fix it by turning off the playlist view as instructed.
Just one problem remains. There was one post about it way back, but it was never answered. The Windows Live Search Today plugin doesn't work. It gives me an "unable to launch" error. I tried changing the search string in the registry but to no avail. Any ideas on this? It's no big deal because I can use Misurdasoft SearchToday instead, but Live Search is a bit nicer because the search box is transparent and so doesn't obstruct my wallpaper.

please let me re-iterate. it is a great rom. fast. my battery issue may be due to that i am using U1000. i don't know. maybe only a handful of people are experiencing this.
another thing is that i installed when my battery is 90% not 100%.

Just a quick suggestion:
Could anybody on the project post links and descriptions of all the fixes and patches we had since the release ov v2 (battery, WMP fix fpr 96/128 dpi, etc.) in one place, preferably along with the downloads in the 1st or 2nd post? This thread is getting huge, and for people who decide to install this ROM now, it might be easier t find all the things that can remove problems early on, instead of reading through more than 600 posts in search of a solution.
I'll be getting my Ameo sometime next week, will then go for te upgrade, and would also prefer not having to re-read the entire thread. ;)
Thanks and keep up the great work, it is much appreciated!

quick note on radios and batteries on t mobile in south east uk
1.5 = best reception rubbish battery . drains even when not on 3g
1.47= 2nd best reception good battery life. over 24 hours
1.45= 3rd best reception intermediate battery life. 24 hours
haven't tried 1.38 yet but for me its 1.47 for the longer battery and the decent reception.

We're still looking into the battery issue. The VGA issues are for Tobias to work out in his realVGA implementation and are the same with all ROMs, not specific to the AP ROM released. Hopefully Tobias will come out with a new version soon. I know he's been busy and has contributed a great deal to the forum. Glad to have him around!

These are taken from BatteryStatus, minimally +-5 mA, at minimal CPU load (< 10%) -- higher spikes as CPU load goes up.
Here are my findings:
Dim screen, radio off, BT off, WiFi off - 90 mA
Add screen is max bright - 120 mA
Add BT on - 70 mA
Add WiFi on - 70 mA
Add Radio on (idle) - 0 mA
Add active call - 120 mA (with upward peaks)
Add active Edge connection - 300 mA
Wish I knew:
Power drain when on standby. I assume that this is somewhat greater than 0, since it still monitors the radio and so forth.
My typical configurations:
Bright screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off - 280 mA
Dim screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off - 160
Bright screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off, active call - 400 mA
Dim screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off, active call - 280 mA
Bright screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off, streaming music or video - 580 mA
Dim screen, radio on, BT on, WiFi off, streaming music or video - 465 mA
So, if I understand this correctly, with everything off and screen on dim, I should get 1200/90 or a little over 13 hours. With everything off and screen on bright, I would get about 6 hours. With my typical configuration, I would get about 4-7.5 hours depending on screen brightness. And my talk time would be about 4 hours or less, assuming dim screen and minimal other activity.
This does not account for:
1. Higher drain when higher CPU load or when there is an active data connection.
2. Lower drain when the device is on standby.
In reality, I have been getting at most 8-10 hours with minimal use, as low as 5 hours with heavy use. I have recently dramatically cut back my settings in power management, and I'm hoping this will help. Also, I'm noticing that the device is on when I don't think it should be. Seems like something (probably data connection to sync e-mail) brings it out of standby, but then it doesn't go back onto standby. So I'm checking to see if that reveals anything.
Can others check their values, especially using radio 1.47 or 1.45?
Anyone have any other insights?
NOTE: I am running PK2.0 with radio 1.50 on x7500, PhoneAlarm and PocketBreeze (with tabs for calendar, contacts, PocketWeather, and Battery Status), pBar 1.4, Batti disabled, IntelliSync connection for wireless Sync (push only) with work Groupwise server.

Hi all,
Battery drain issue again. I installed my Dopod U1000 with stock Black Touch 2.0 ROM this morning, together with Black Touch Addons, as posted in Post #1. This ROM upgrade + addons completed at 10am, with 100% battery.
OS: 5.2.1437 (Build 17944.0.3.1)-PK
ROM Version: AP Touch 2.0
ROM date: 07/06/07
Radio version: 1.50.00.00
Protocol: 32.83.7020.20H
I have also installed "Athena Project Battery Test by Midget.cab", "Athena Project Test WMP Fix.cab" and have removed Batti from startup and soft-reset the device. I was running in 128dpi, with AP Touch interface without Kaiser. Bluetooth ON, Phone On, WiFi Off, Screen Brightness at Level 1 (Level 0 is the dimmest).
From my observation, with very minimal use (average of 5 minutes talk time every hour, no games, no other application) the battery drained about 10% in every 1 hour. I checked my device at every hour starting from 10am until 7pm. At 7pm, the battery is at 10% left. Previously, using stock Dopod WM6 upgrade, the battery lasts about 2 days with "real usage" of the device (applications, office, hours of call time, wifi, bluetooth, games).
With that drain speed, without any "real" usage of the device, I think I have problem. I appreciate if anybody could give any comment, suggestion or advice regarding this matter.
Thank you.

The team is getting together tonight/tomorrow to have an indepth look over the battery issue. Hopefully will have something shortly.
Also make sure you didn't install the addons to the MD. :-)
Please note that we also have radio version 1.50 on this new ROM. This radio is the latest version which yields better performance but the cost is faster battery drain.

Yep 3.0 which will be faster, more stable, have a newer xip and OS build, more enhancements and we've accomplished something that no one else on the Athena has been able to do yet. This is doing to be a nice little bonus for those installing the ROM :-)
We have a great team and everyone is doing their part to get 3.0 out. Everyone has a role and responsibility so it makes things go smoothly. We just have to keep our heads and test the ROM more thoroughly even though we're excited and want to release it YESTERDAY! :-)

Can you give us some insight of this new ROM, please? I would very much like to know what is there in ROM 3.0 and perhaps we can make suggestions for the benefit of all. Personally I would like, if possible, to see:
1. Battery issue resolved
2. Comm Manager that is reliable and support VGA at least 128dpi
3. A new AP Touch interface that doesnt cut off in 128 or 96 dpi.
4. A reliable radio version (combination of power friendly, good reception, and if possible supports blackberry)
5. Video calls supports
Cheers!

Changing radio to 1.47 has fixed my battery problems. I've been using my phone for 14 hours and still 50% after a bit of surfing calling texting emailing etc...
thanks again mahmood:DHey, I'm about ready to try this. I'm desperate to be able to be away from power for more than a couple hours without having to worry.
One question: Does this do a hard reset? With Wizard, you could install radio without hard reset.
Another question: If yes, can you restore a backup? Or are there registry settings that go with this?
Last question, If yes, how long for PK3.0? I really, really don't want to have to do go through getting everything set up. Seems to take days until everything is set right again...

Yep it hard resets the device but if you use the backup software in the addons and then restore once you've upgraded the radio it should put you back to where you were before changing the radio (i've just changed mine again and used the software and it worked a treat)

Just for your info, previous version PK 1.0 supports the attached program (it is free). It is very simple, supports for people without pushmail enabled in the exchange server to syncr automatically when receive a mail. IT is based in intercepting the sms that your phone provider can send you with "new mail arrived" text.
But I see the new release PK 2.0 creates some troubles and doesn't work. I think is related to compact framework, or the version or something new involved in the rom.
Maybe you consider to have it working for people without pushmail.

Hi All,
Firstly THANKS for the ROM - it's an awesome improvement from the AMEO (T-mob UK) stock setup.
BUT - just wanted to provide some feedback that also on my device the battery consumption is very bad and will drain in a day without much use. I need to have a charger at work (one charge ) and at home (charge overnight) to keep it on 24x7. Not really a complaint considering the community effort - but jsut wanted to provide some constructive feedback that the reports aren't isolated.
Haven't done much tweaking to see what I could change - i use this as my main device so willing to try / contribute some testing as long as I don't have to re-flash every day.

Sounds like maybe you have not run Olipro's Unlocking software yet. Look in the main Athena forum...first thread. Unlock your device (all 3 stages), only after this can you install the AP_PK 2.0 Black Touch ROM or any other Athena based ROM.
If this is your a virgin to flashing, I suggest you read the entire thread for the unlocker first, so you are well prepared for any eventuality.
Good luck.;-)

Not quite true Mackaby007 - assuming it's a UK T-Mob Ameo then there is the T-Mob Athena ROM which can be installed without unlocking.
Still recommend to follow all 3 steps of Olipro's unlocker then any ROM can be installed including the fantastic PK Black Touch V2.0

Wow! Super Fast reply from Itxda! Thank you. FYI, all of the addons were installed in the device, not MD or SD. I am going to put radio 1.45, replacing 1.50 for testing. Will report the performance.
ROM AP 3.0? That is a great news! Hopefully ROM AP 3.0 will solve battery issues faced by many. Great work Athena Team!

Okay, report on battery performance after changing to radio 1.45. I reflashed the radio to 1.45 (from stock 1.50), bluetooth ON all the time, average of 10 minutes call time per hour, removed Batti, screen brightness to Level 1 and Level 2 (Level 0 is the dimmest), battery charged to 100%.
The result is, after 12 hours of use, the battery is at 50%. Looks promising, probably I can go up to nearly 24 hours before the battery drain completely. The only substantial change I made from previous testing is downgrading radio to version 1.45, which has showed better/significant battery performance.

I think the price just dropped from something like $130 to $30 or something very nice. I couldn't find the home page so if you find it please post here and thanks.
Seems when you buy this software it is only licensed for one phone, and they will not transfer it. I bought it on a TyTn. I have since sold the TyTn, had a Treo750 and with the Advantage decided it would be good to use it again. I emailed them and asked them to give me a new code, the software is tied to device code, and they told me to sod off, I need to buy another license.
I have tons of software I have bought over the years which I have used on all my many PPC phones and I must confess to being really peeved at these guys attitude. I would not have bought the software if I had known it does not transfer but is locked to the one phone. Too bad if your phone breaks, gets stolen or, GASP, you change it for something new.

Why 1.45 instead of 1.47?
According to information I gathered from this forum, Radio 1.45 gives better GSM signal, and 1.47 gives better 3G signal. Radio 1.50 is a breed of both.
I have also tested 1.47 and compared it to 1.45, it seems (by roughly observing, no technical analysis) that 1.45 is more battery friendly, without compromising 3G connectivity (at least my 3G works fine still, not visible lack of performance).
Cheers!

Hi all..
Just thought I would post to say that I have managed to get windows media player working properly without freezing in all DPI's - and I aren't using the WMP fix cab!
I did the following:
From "Menu" in WMP, click Options and then untick the box so WMP doesn't start up in Library mode - then select the "Skin" tab. Wait a few seconds until the picture of the skin appears. Then closed WMP.
I can then select any DPI and WMP opens up properly first time!
My device is now nearly perfect! For the last couple of days I have been having battery drain issues - I've just hard reset after flashing back to Radio 1.45 and am hoping that will fix it (device is a HTC branded device).
I have one question - How long does it take to fully charge the battery?
At 11pm last night the battery was at 80% and it was left on charge until 8am this morning (thats 10 hours) and the battery was still only showing 90% charged. When I took it off power and then looked at the device 30 mins later it was down to 60% with no use...Not sure if this is the same issue others are having or if I have a faulty battery...I will try another battery tomorrow just incase but would welcome any suggestions...

Hi all,
After a few days messing around with this ROM and various add-ons, etc. I am pleased to report that it's finally all working for me!
I should say that I'm relatively new to the world of Windows Mobile so it's all been a bit of a steep learning curve for me.
I started with the ROM and installed all add-ons to the micro-drive. I had major stability problems - my device hung regularly (once every couple of days) and battery life was poor.
I've since re-flashed and installed just a few add-ons to the device, removed batti, applied the battery fix and WMP fix (not that I use WMP!), and am using wxTask. All seems to be working very well.
Battery life: I left my device unplugged last night at about 02:30 and now (09:45) still have 90% battery remaining over 7 hours later, although my battery is showing a temperature of 127.8 degrees C !!
All in all I'm very happy with the new ROM and am looking forward to v3.
Now I just need to learn how to configure my device - for example, I still have no idea how to install the themes/buttons, etc and make my today page look like some of the screenshots in this thread. I guess I'll pick that up if I do a bit more work.
Thanks again,
R.

i know this sound confusing but there are technically 2 versions of 8.65, the one that comes with the x7500 and the one that is on the opera website. the only difference i can tell is that the one on the website makes use of adobe flash which means you can watch vids on youtube but it starts and stops alot. so hopefully they fixed that from the beta version.

Hey,
I've noticed two small glitches, has anyone else seen them, or knows how I can overcome?
1) The OK button in the corner has a tendency to close the application in stead of perform the "OK" task - IE, in SPB Time when setting changes to an alarm, if I click OK it will close without saving, However, if I press the "OK" button on the device it does as should do and saves my alarm..? This isn't just limited to SPB applications either... :-/
2) The Finger keyboard that is installed as default, I can't deactive it and set the standard keyboard as default, it works for a little while but no-matter how I assign the default the other comes back... I'm finding it too big to use :-(
Regards and good work everyone!!
rhedgehog
7th October 2007, 04:49 PM
@jmdrizen: The problem with the OK button is down to the task manager 2.0 that is in the addon pack. I had exactly the same problem. It's easy to get around it, just remember to press the ok button on the front of the device. I got too annoyed with this and simply uninstalled the 2.0 task manager and stuck with the 1.5 that is pre-installed.
As for the teksoft keyboard. I get the same issue. I have even got to the point that if it is not set as the default, i lose it completely and all i can use is the original WM keyboard. This is fine if i am in 192 dpi, but a nightmare if in 96. I don't know of a way to fix it i am afraid.
@sabes143: All the standard SPB Software today plugins work at 96dpi from what i can tell. I never use SPB shell as i can't stand the thing, but SPB Diary, SPB Pocket Plus, SPB weather and SPB Backup all work without fault.

I finally got my Ameo from T-Mobile Austria this Friday (and it was a steal, with all my bonus points, and they even gave me a nice discount, since it was the last unit and had been on display for a while, even though it doesn't seem to have ever been actually used by anybody). The Ameo has officially been discontinued here and there seem to be only very few, if any units left to be had, so if you are with TMA and want to get one, please do hurry up! (A1 does still carry the HTC X7500, though).
Went right into unlocking and flashing PK 2.0, which both worked like a charm, and all I can say is: This is awesome, thank you guys for making a great device even better! I'd love to get you guys some monetary reward as well, as I mentioned before to ltxda, but it would have to be by means that do not require a credit card (since I don't own one, and PayPal here in Austria only lets you sign up with a credit card). If you have any ideas how to do this (without my bank charging me ridicolous amounts of money for an overseas transfer) please let me know!
If there is some other way I can help out, like maybe with testing or localization/translation (to German), helping out with questions on this thread, etc. please let me know as well. One thing I might be able to offer is maintaining or putting together some sort of FAQ or guide, since there is a lot of information on this thread, but with literally hundreds of postings it can be a bit hard to find one's way around it, and might be a bit intimidating to any newbies (I know I'd have a hard time finding any info, if I hadn't started reading this thread right from the start, even with no Ameo to play with).
I cannot yet comment on battery issues, since I did not use the unit a lot away from home or mains power yet. It seemed to drain a bit fast on first use, but I since removed batti and X Button from Startup and use pBar. From the limited expirience I have with the unit as of yet, that step seems to have improved battery life. The real test for the unit will start in the next couple of days, with university kicking off again full-time and me being on my way most of the day.
I absolutely LOVE the 96dpi mode, with all the info you can fit on the screen. Since I work using UXGA (1600×1200) on a 15" notebook display, I am pretty much used to very small lettering, and don't have any issues with the size whatsoever (even with being far from 20/20 eyesight). I just took a quick look at my MDA II (HTC Himalaya), and could only bear a few seconds of looking at the seemingly HUGE pixels of the 240×320 screen, as compared to the crips screen of the Ameo. Funny what little time it takes to get used to and depending on this kind of resolution.
Sure, a few apps get somewhat distorted, but I can easily live with that, since most work great with that resolution. RealVGA does indeed rock, and the localization component provided with it translates most applications into German without any glitches! The only thing that slightly bothers me is that the SIM-pad is pretty messed up (do we have a solution for that already - a quick search brought nothing up, but I might have missed it). Input works with the stylus as well as the hardware keyboard though, so it's mainly an optical glitch for me.
There is something annoying about the software keyboards, but I will ask my questions about that one in an independent post in this thread, as not to bloat this up too much.
Again, thank you lots and lots for all the work that is going into this, I'd love to help out any way I can, just let me know how!
Regards,
Darkguy

Hey all!
Fingertouch really seems like a nice onscreen keyboard. The problem is, it uses the English QWERTY-layout. Since I am used to the German QWERTZ layout, is there a way to change layouts on Fingertouch? The Teksoftco-website only meantions QWERTY, the support forum mentions nothing about it at all, and looking around the registry, I could not find any keys or values, that seem to point at a specific layout being set (and thus, being able to change it).
I originally thought that the German localization of RealVGA was supposed to handle keyboard layouts as well, but it seems that is not the case (or something has gone wrong). I managed to change the layout of the hardware keyboard as well as the original (black/white, 2D-looking) software keyboard to german by changing some of the 0409 values to 0407 (d'oh, of course I didn't write them down, which will of course come back to bite me in the butt some day).
Anyway, the blue/3D-keyboard is still in the QWERTY layout. Also, auto-complete does not work at all, which might also be a localization issue. I will ask in the TrueVGA thread as well, in case something has gone wrong on my installation.

Just a quick suggestion for v3.0 or the 3.0 add-on. I came across a TCPMP plugin which allows for playback of FLV-files. FLV, or Flash Video is what is used by most video portals like YouTube or Google Video, and there are numerous tools to download the videos froom those platforms. Otherwise, the video would have to be converted, only to suffer in quality (another compression from an already compressed format) and probably still be bloated in size.
The plug-in can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939 (also in case anybody else is interested in this).

Another heads-up:
v1.3.4 of pRSSReader has been released, which works fine in 96dpi, but kills services.exe during startup (prssrsrv.dll seems to be the culprit). I am still experimenting on what causes this behaviour - maybe it's happening because v1.3.3 could not properly be uninstalled on my device and I decided to go forward with installing v.1.3.4 anyway.
I'll experiment around a bit more and let oyu know what I find out. I'd like to use pRSS in 96dpi, but I don't want it to provide to the instability of the system.

Or just use the excellent vtap to view videos....
But I'll probably try this plug in anyway as vtap doesn't search YouPorn....

I have been dealing with battery drain since upgrading to WM6 (x7501 upgrade, then PK2.0). I previously ran the Battery Fix cab and got no relief... Some people have reported some improvement using earlier radios. So I gave it a try.
However, after flashing 1.45 radio, I am at pretty much at the same spot as before. I get a little more than 10% battery drain per hour, pretty much the same as with 1.50 radio. See attached screen shots from System Monitor 1.21 -- http://www.celab-mobile.de -- as you can see I went from 100% at 6:13 to 20% at 1:13. That's 80% drain in 7 hours, about the same as the 1.50 radio. While the drain accoring to BatteryStatus is slightly lower (about 10%) with 1.45, but this isn't adding up to any real improvement in battery life.
I plan to try 1.47 radio tonight. Otherwise, I guess I'll hope for some relief with PK3 and just try to watch for outlets throughout the day in the meantime... I really don't want to go back to WM5.

Me too, at this stage if you really use the athena hardly you need to carry on aditional batteries and a charger. It is crazy.

Today I turned off my bluetooth radio (at least while I am at work) and I maintained an excellent battery life. I don't use the device as my primary phone so I can live without an active BT connection. Wifi was on all day. And tonight I am 70% charged.
I, like many would can't wait for PK 3.0
Thanks.

Hi
I am bit curious about the battery drain. Is it may be the bluetooth device which is connected to the Athena makes the battery to drain. Because i did had a Jabra Bt headset and that time my battery lasts around 9 - 10 hours. Now i changed the headset and installed Battery fix. upto now around 13 hours from last charge still my athena showing about 70% battery( BT on but not broadcasting).
Other thing you have to remember whatever you instal to show on your today plugin it should be installed in the main memory. It will save more battery because if you install a plugin on the micro drive it will have to spin all the time. it may drain your battery.
Good luck guys. I hope you will resolve this issue soon.

Can anyone tell me what the rom version says for this rom in settings/about?
(Is it this? CE OS 5.2.1238 (build 17745.0.2.3)-PK
Also what the tmob wm6 says if possible?
Reason i ask is because i am investigating the battery issue when using 1.5.
I discovered that using the tmob wm6 with it the battery life is fine yet with this rom it is not.
I have just ran sprite backup that i took from ap touch 2 on the tmob rom to see if it would restore everything and it pretty much did. No errors anyway. Got the teksoft sip to.
Had to manually add the ap touch .tsk but thats no chore.
Battery life good and i have a touchy snappy finger friendly rom again with the best radio for calls and surfing for my neck of the woods.:D
Don't know why it worked it just did!!!!!

I had previously posted that my battery problems had vanished. This was only true for about a day. since then I have been waiting for an update. I have tried everything from raido versions to the patches to any other suggestions. nothing worked. I still hac the 7 hour battery. I then tead something about turning off the bluetooth. I got to thinking of what has changed. I removed the bluetooth icon from statup. (btIO). At this time this seems to have worked. my phone has been on for 12 hours andi am at 50%. the phone has been under heavy use today as well. It would be helpful if all that are still having the battery issue would try this and let everyone know.

I also found that for me, the battery fix seemed to help some. But it still was not acceptable until I removed the BTIO from the startup. Now that I removed that and just turn on bluetooth normally, my battery is back to normal. (actually, i never turn off bluetooth. so the icon and startup were just a waste). But it really seems to have helped me. Others may disagree, but it works for me!

Go File Explorer, windows/startup and remove BTIO. Restart the phone.

This is what is working for me also. If you just leave the bluetooth on it works just fine. Battery is back to being similar to the official HTC Release. Use with stereo headset all day as phone and music headphones

I removed it a couple of weeks ago as it was taking up valuable real estate without doing anything in particular. It had no effect on battery life (1.50 still drained too fast).
Removing it has not affected how my bluetooth has functioned at all.
I've flashed a stock rom and am gradually adding apps and tweaks to catch the culprit out as i can't imagine the improved 3g/hsdpa reception with 1.50 is whats causing the massive shift in power consumption, a ltitle more would make sense but not this much.
If i suss it out in the next couple of days i'll let you know

Yes, take it if that is the issue. I did find it useful for managing bt connections. Is there an easy alternative for opening the audio gateway? Note this is without using the A2DP profile, just to route streaming talk radio to my ear. Found BlueTooth Audio v1.0 and will try that...

btIO is an addon so BT won't be affected...the convenience provided by btIO may be missed by some but in that case they can install themselves. We're still running tests but I think the initial report that btIO may be causing this seems correct. We'll know more in the next few days.

Interstingly, I had to hard reset the other day. I had removed BTIO on my previous installation. After hard resetting this time, I installed the battery fix and the batter problem was still there. Have this minute removed the BTIO and will report back later today as to whether it cures the battery issue.

I have btdwake.lnk in my startup, not BTIO. I also found that on removing it (and rebooting), the power drain increases by 10mA.
This shortcut points to \windows\btdwake.exe.
AFAIK, I have not installed any BT related program.
In any case, after installing midget's battery fix, I found that it has improved the battery performance by about 50%. That is to say, before my battery would last about 12 hours (100%->5%) and now it lasts about 25; everything else being equal in both cases.
