I used TomTom, 6.030, on my first real trip, and loved it.

But, on the last day, my phone now reboots when I launch TomTom. When I cilck on the I Agree, it reboots.

To try to remedy, I have:

Backed up the SD card
Formatted the SD
Copied backup files to it
Given failure, I then uninstalled TomTom
Reinisalled

No success.

Any ideas?

[EDIT]
I just tried a Center on GPS in Microsoft Live, and it reboots when doing that too. I guess it must be a problem with the GPS hardware in the phone. I'm calling AT&T Support to see what they tell me. I bet I have to do a hard reset...something I've been dreading.

Sounds like now is the perfect time to upgrade to the new ATT ROM since you're going to have to reinstall everything anyway.

Well, interesting. My Tilt was rebooting no matter what software was utilizing the GPS: Google, MS LIve, Tomtom, and MS Live.

I called into AT&T support, and ultlimately installed their nav software ,and that rebooted it too. So, we did a hard reset, and it still rebooted it.

So they forwarded me to warranty, and they are sending me a replacement phone (refurbished, I'm sure).

Well, I had backed the phone up before the hard reset. So, while waiting on the replacement, I did a restore. Guess what: it works now. I didn't expect that, given that it was rebooting right after the hard reset.

So, I'm debating about it, but I guess I will likely send this one back.

Re: that new rom, I guess I will do that too. I've been reading a lot about some of the cooked roms, and am contemplating trying one of them. Although, they all seem to have some issues, and some software I don't want. Would be great if I could go through a custom screen on implementation of the cooked roms and choose what I want and dont.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

RE: the 6.30 verson, I got it at tomtom.com. I browsed around for their updated software, and ultimately found it and downloaded it, and installed it throught TomTom home.

Is there a way for TomTom to give the vocal instruction through the Bluetooth headset ?

Thanks
Jean-Yves
Hello,

there is a software called BlueTooth Audio from Triangle Powers Software. It basically puts all audio trough the BT headset including the audio from TomTom.

Hope that helps for you.

Hi,
I have installed TT6.032 on my Kaiser (VPA Compact V with a new ROM from KaiserHTC_GER_1.56.407.3Reconstructed).
(Orginal radio was 1.27.12.11, the new one in the ROM above is the same)

Unfortunatley I get no GPS signal. I have doen a QuickGPS but TT6 always say "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..." (built-in GPS receiver). I have tested the Kaiser directly beside a window and have waited more than 60 min - nothing happens.

Any ideas ?

I'm hoping for an answer to this too...:)

Also, I installed the taster version and then replaced with 6.030 and the voice seems tobe a lot quieter. Anyone else found this?

If it says "Waiting for a valid GPS signal..." then it found the GPS just fine. You need to take it outside, you either are at a window not facing south or blocked, or the glass has a coating on it preventing the signal from getting through.

Under TomTom plus settings there should be an enable/disable wireless data icon.

I've been a TomTom user for quite a while, but I was wondering if this function was available. Say I had 5 errands to run that day. What I would like to do is enter the 5 addresses, and have it order them in the most efficient route. When I've tried this once before in a town I wasn't familiar with it just navigated me in the order I entered them, and later I found out that my third stop was only 3 blocks away from by first stop, but stop 2 was a mile away. Can this be done?

Thanks again, Jay

After installing Dutty's latest ROM and a new radio then reinstalling tomtom the position is wrong. No matter what I do my position on the map is out by about 40-50 meters, I don't this is due to screen update lag since it's like this when the phone is sitting still. Anyone seen anything like this before?

I think the accuracy of any comercial GPS system is only 10 meters. Throw it into a small package with all interference and the distance is off more. Some times when i apporach a street it says turn 200 yards but i know its not two football fields from the turn so i just take it for what its worth, besides i always consider GPS units as a guide versus follwing them to the letter. 30 meters is good accuracy.

Thanks but it's out by more than that, so much that it can be misleading. Also I had it installed previously and it was spot on, so I know it can be better using the hardware that I have. It's almost as if it needs calibrating somehow.

The FAQ is specific to using this software on the Kaiser - basic operation of TomTom including loading maps via TomTom HOME is covered in the TomTom documentation included with the product you purchased.

The answer I found that worked, from the FAQ, is to use BT Audio810. Works like a charm on my Tilt running the Blackwood ROM.

I have a TyTN II delivered by the lovely folks at Orange (i.e. no TT as they want you to buy the SatNav service they provide!).

ROM 1.81.61.2 WWE
Radio 1.27.14.32
Protocol 22.45.88.07H

I loaded up TomTom Navigator 6 from DVD and it installs version 6.010. It works very well except for one thing - no sound, at all. Lots of fiddling with on and off, soft reset, data connections off, flight mode, you name it, I tried it and no sound.

I have managed to get a 6.032 version installed and running. Exactly the same. The only difference I see is that the logo is a better fit on the Today screen.

Any clues please - I seem to be unique in having no sound at all even when the volume is at 100%.

TIA,

Trout

Thus, could it be possible to modify the way TomTom Starts in a way to have for example, 2 shortcuts, one for the built in receiver on COM4, and a second TomTom shortcut that will use a dedicated COM for BT external receiver ?

On your map screen is there a picture of a speaker with a red X through it in the bottom left corner? If so tap the screen, then tap Change Preferences. Then tap Turn On Sound.

I'm running 6.032(8351) which works fine as it should.

AFAIK, some of 6.032 cabs have the volume issue. You don't hear any sound when you launch TT until you scroll up or down the Jog wheel button. Have you try it?

Thank you for the suggestions.

I did try jog wheel, volume preference, sound set up, speaker on and off...etc.

It shows volume at 100% and I get not a peep.

I was just wondering if this was a shared problem or something specific to my unit/software combination.

I get the same issue with 6.010 and 6.032 versions.

Have just put 6.030 on my recently acquired TyTN II, and it works fine, except for the sound being muted on startup. Have read through the entire thread, and have found out that it's a bug within the program. Some of you have said that you have written to TT about it. Has there been a patch released yet? Or is there going to be one?

Hello everybody. Just wanted to share some good news. Been browsing forums like crazy last week because I couldn't make TomTom 6 6.032(8351) to work on my AT&T Tilt. It installed and everything, but it couldn't acquire a GPS Device. All you need to do is HARD RESET and DON'T fiddle with External GPS inside the Setting folder. I mean, don't even open it to check which setting it has. Otherwise, TomTom is not going to work.
After I did hard reset, installed tomtom 6 and put maps on my micro sdhc card, went outside and It found 3 satellites in a few seconds. As far as which GPS Device to use, I've chosen Internal GPS.

Hope it helped somebody.

I just tried tomtom and functionally it works fine on my Tilt.

But, just an opinion that this software has a cheesy user interface, outdated maps and poor search information. I just uninstalled it. For my purposes it seems that Live Search has a slight edge over google maps but they are neck in neck. Maybe the info is better in europe on tomtom. Its pretty obvious that its not made or aggressively supported for use in the US.

Just trying to save other US users from bothering with it.;)

ok this may be a stupid question but i was unable to locate anyone else with this problem.

Ok, so i had my own version of TT6 but it is inconsistent. I uploaded a cab file from here and installed it on my phone.

On my previous version, I had TTHOme setup on my laptop. However, I find it annoying everytime I sync, TTHOME updates my phone, which I believe is the primary reason why my gps shits the bed.

So is it possible to get TT6 working and continue to work without installing TTHOME?

Ok without installing TTHOME and syncing to my phone I am unable to get any type of fix with TT. TT I have a paid version and now this one and neither are working right any more.

Ok I sat in my driveway for 10mins and couldn't get a fix but in my basement I can!!!!!! WTF TT

However, I guess you don't need TTHOME to run the application.

Hi Guys and Guru's :)
Sorry if this is repetitive, but I've been using TT for ages, and have just put Dutty's touchflo on my kaiser.

I've tried many versions of TT, and managed to install 6032 with a free citymap from tomtom. I have the /Storage Card/Great_Britain-Map/ on my card, with the GB map inside, but TT cant find it??? I remember I prev had to copy some stuff to /My doc's folder to sort this, but I just cant get it to work with the GB map. HELP!!??

Read all 30pages of this thread, with no joy.. I used to run this map on my kaiser no probs by copying the map folder and navigator folder to the SD card, and running from there, and heve re-installed it a few times since then, just by copying these folders.

I have correct currentmap.dat files in /storage card/my docs/ and /my docs, but STILL no joy...

Can somebody, anybody find me somebody to help?

Cheers guys, you've never let me down yet !!!
(Of course, if the solution is dodgy, spare the mods by not posting pirated stuffage, this site is TOO GOD to take a kicking! PM me instead ;)

cheers all

well maps are supposed to be purchased from TT. If you use TTHome then the map you purchased will be there. In addition, maps are bulky i don't know how you fit a whole us map onto your device it would have to be on a storage card. So if you restarted your device it would still be on the storage card.

I just installed TomTom 6.030 to replace my Teletype Navigator. It works great on my device. In moving it from Main Memory to my 8G SD card, I noticed that it creates an additional (to the one already in the Navigator folder) voices folder on the root of the SD card. The only file there is "collected.ini". Does anyone know if there's a tweak to get rid of this extra folder ??. If it's deleted, it's re-created upon starting TT.
Can't seem to Google anyone with this question/solution.

That's the same ROM I'm using on my Tilt, and mine works flawlessly.

Try doing a soft reset, then try again. If that doesn't work you may consider a hard reset.

I don't know if it is my phone, or the maps, but with the new map, the tracking/display is jerky. That is, instead of a fluid arrow going up the street, it move to a spot, stops, moves a little later, stops. Like it's overwhelming the CPU.

Anyone else experience this?

I think I'll reinstall the old map and see what happens, but wanted to see if anyone else is seeing the same thing.

So has anyone got this working with Duttys 6.1? I tried both cab and exe and nothing. Says I need to update ROM? Does it not work with Dutty 6.1?

I have it running as well.

I'll reply to my own post:eek:

I have since moved to a replacement phone. The new TomTom maps are bad on it too. The map flows smoothly in 6.65, and it is jerkey on 6.75. And the voice announcemnts in 6.75 are annoying as well. Instead of "Right turn in 1/4 mile", it will say "In 1/4 mile..." then wait until you are right at the turn and say "Turn right"

I've gone back to using the old map. I'm going to file a complaint email to them. If I hear anything interesting, I'll post back. What I expect to hear is "Oh, we don't support TomTom on HTC Tilt".

I have read through this and other postings but can not figure out how to solve my problem. I have TomTom on my Kaiser device and the US and Canada maps on my SD card, but TomTom can not find the maps. I thought I might get the free taster map from tomtom.com to see where it puts it and put my map there as well but I can't find the link on the tomtom site for the free map. Can anyone help me? I get lost going around the block - I really need to get this to work. Thanks!

I just checked my setup - my Western Europe maps are in a folder called Western Europe on the root of the microSD card and seems to work ok. If you haven't already done so, try downloading TomTom Home from the website and run this on your PC. This will allow you to install the maps via your PC to your SD card and may help.

If you've already tried the above, I've no more bright ideas sorry! HTH

The truth is that I drowned my Kaiser taking a bath with it (ooops) and had to buy it again. I bought another Kaiser, installed the taster software, d/led the free map, but the US map isn't recognized so that I can try to activate it. Is that because it was already activated on my dead Kaiser?

fisha21

Yes, apparently Kaisers can't swim! ;)

Did you try installing the US map via TomTom Home, rather than directly to the mSD card?

Cinamon
17th June 2008, 02:03 AM
I only have the map on my SD card - I can't find the original disk. :( So might it help to burn it to a CD and then see if TomTom home can see it?

Poor drowned Kaiser. It actually does power on but it has constant power surges and the repair shop couldn't stabilize it. Maybe it's good for parts for somebody.

fisha21
17th June 2008, 02:46 AM
When you open TomTom Home, does that recognise the maps on your mSD? You might be able to copy to PC, and then back to device. Otherwise, try dumping the maps from mSD to the C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxx\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads folder and then see if Home will let you copy to your device.

Cinamon
17th June 2008, 03:42 AM
Hey, great thoughts, but sadly none of them works. This was an expensive lesson buying the Kaiser all over again and now I guess I'll have to buy the map. I had just had surgery, was lying in the tub listening to a book on tape, and the next thing I knew .....

Cinamon

It seems that my "new" Kaiser has only WM 6.0 where my old one had 6.1 .. I wonder if that is part of the problem. :( I hate the idea of flashing the ROM and it's frustrating because I bought this new out of the box at a premium price. Oh Well.

Just curious what headsets anyone is using and happy wiht to hear TomTom directions over the headset.

Actually, I have a Motorola 505, and it works fine, but I have a convertible that it isn't so good for. Too much wind noise, so I want to use a headset when I'm in it.

BT Audio is a pain, because if I get a call or somethign, it switches the audio back to the phone, and I have to grab the phone, and use the stylus to get to it and re-enable it.

Well, I've been happy with TomTom on my Tilt, overall.

But...

I purchased the updated maps (I have an early post in this thread with no responses...apparently no-one else has)...and it works terrible on the phone. It's slow, jerky, and I'm not happy with the announcements. For example, it will say "In two miles...." , instead of "Left turn in two miles". Or will announce the turn very close to the time to turn.

Since i got the maps, I have had to replace the phone, and same thing, so I don't think it's my phone.

Altough I called TomTom support, (and they worked with me Very Well, I must say), and they said I may need to move it to a smaller SD card. I have heard before they don't want you to use too large of a card. But then, that negates a lot of other things I use the phone for...well, at least, it dumps a lot of my music. (I'm using an 8GB card).

So the 665 map works great, the 675 map sucks. They won't refund on the 675 map because "it is considered open software". And they officially do not support the Tilt, so if I 'escalate' the issue I'll here that, according to the support person I spoke with.

So it looks like keeping current maps is not an option.

Not sure right now what I'll do, but thought I'd share the info. I may see if there are some trial versions of other GPS software.

I have some posts going on re: very poor performance with my TomTom when using larger maps. For example, using USA and CAnada, it is very slow following along. If I switch to a regional map, it works great.

Note: I'd swear this wasn't the case when I used 6.65 maps, and that this problem started when I installed the 6.75. And going back to 6.65 then it still is slow. Maybe I'm delirious, and all of a sudden it just seems worse.

Anyway, TomTom support says I should run it on a 1GB card. Of course, I won't be able to do anything else with the phone much, if I do that. I did purchase a 4GB (current card is 8GB), and it wasn't any better on the 4. If this thought held water, I'd think I would at least see some improvment, but going to 4.

So my question is, what is anyone else experiercing? Using smaller cards to get it to work well?

I may do a hard reset, but I'm getting tired of having to constantly rebuild my phone. I have less and less functionality, because I run out of steam reinstalling things. I've done that 4 times over the past few months.

Have you considered the Class of SDHC card you are using. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card#SDHC) for more.

I think that picture is of an SD card, not a Micro SDHC card, which is what my Tilt requires.

From what I read on that site, those ratings are for the Write speeds. Nothing mentioned (although I may have skimmed past it) about read speeds. I would think I need read speeds. Does the class 6 read faster too? Do you know if there is a Class 6 card for Micro SDHC? My current card is a Class 4 Sandisk.

All that being said, I'd interest in knowing if anyone is having success with this before I spend more $ on another card.

Again, TomTom just says "Use a small card".

I'm beginning to wonder if I should change GPS vendors, but then, may find the same problem with others.

Hmmm....I just checked my 4GB card, and it is a Class 6. I have same problem with it.

Maybe I need to give up and do a darned hard reset. :(

[EDIT]
Well, I did a backup so I can get back whre I was, and did a hard reset, adn installed TT. Only program installed (I did not load the bloatware).

Still the same, even on the 4GB card.

Either my definition of no lag/running smooth is different from everyone elses, or there must be somethign wrong with my phone.

I can tell that teh 6.65 map runs just a bit faster than the 6.75 map (size difference?). And regional maps, which are about 1/3 the size of the USA map, run very very good. No lag at all.

Guess I'll restore my backup.

ewingr
5th August 2008, 01:36 AM
I found in another post that if you turn off display of POIs it may fix lagginess.

That worked for me. (I had posts earlier in this thread and another about TT, re: TT being problematic for me. Very large lag in display of maps.

I had decided it was a problem with large maps.

I wanted to use my external GPS receiver (Holux GPSlim236) with my Kaiser so I wouldn't have to mount my phone on the dash. Also, many external GPS receivers are better than the Kaiser internal. I am using TomTom 6 software and the stock AT&T WM6 ROM.

The external bluetooth GPS receiver will pair with the Kaiser via bluetooth but doesn't show up in the COM port list under TomTom's GPS configure screen. The only options are COM4 which is the internal GPS and COM7 which doesn't work. I tried adjusting the external GPS settings to fix the problem but the external GPS settings seem to only pertain to the internal GPS (go figure).

Go to the Bluetooth settings, COM ports tab and select "new outgoing port". Then select your external GPS receiver and next. I used COM8 and selected secure connection.

Now, when you go to the TomTom GPS configure screen, there should be a COM8 option which will connect to your external GPS device.

I did exactly that, the nokia ld-3w is found and paired. But when I start a GPS program my Kaiser uses the internal GPS nevertheless. I also do not see that the nokia ld-3w has a bt-connection.

Any other ideas how to connect an external bluetooth gps mouse?

My Kaiser is a mda vario III with official windows mobile 6.1 and firmware etc. from Telekom Austria....

that's really weird! now it works!! without altering the settings in "external gps".

problems were with the bt-connection. I did the pairing again and again. at one try I intentionally entered a wrong password. than the phone asked "nokia ld-3w wants to connect to your phone". said yes, entered the right password and everything is ok now :)
I can now use the assigned com port for gps settings.

I have acquired a Tytn 2 / Kaiser - specifically a KAIS130 badged O2.

I installed hard SPL eventually using the method of loading then running jump SPL 1.56 from the phone memory.
I then the light WM6.5 ROM from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=543276
and the apps I wanted.

After digging around I found a live download of TomTom 6 and the GB plus major routes in Western Europe Map.

This installed without problem although the version on screen does show as 6.000 (7370) not 6.032, GPS driver v1.20 and the map V650.1046.
Is this correct or should I carry on looking for 6.032?

I have set the GPS Receiver to
Other NMEA GPS receiver, 4800BPS and port set to COM4.

Initially on starting it says No GPS device (flight mode) then after 15-20 seconds
Waiting for a valid GPS signal.
Even in open space outdoors it take several minutes before a signal is picked up.

Once a signal found it is then basically working.

The traffic report returns error 1506. I guess this is to be expected but if there is a fix please post the details.

Also I can enter locations by road name / house number but if I select postcode I can key in the code but have not worked out how to enter it, or am I missing something?

With phone, bluetooth and Wi-fi all off the battery is going down quite fast.
Of course it may well be end of life and I will get a new one.
However on my Comm Manager I only have on/off controls for phone, bluetooth and Wi-fi, not GPS. There were more buttons on the WM6.1 Comm Manager but I never looked if one was GPS.

My question is does the TomTom app turn on the GPS receiver when it starts and turn off when it exits or is the GPS receiver always on draining the battery even if Flight Mode or just phone on.

Regarding legality when driving can I have the device on a dash or window fixing without getting done for potentially using a phone.

tomtom6 is outdated now...

go get Tomtom7

I have just wasted a couple of hours trying to get V7 to work

I have tried 916.9192 QVGA - no bluetooth and 910.9185

I have a 850 version map which is found.

The problem is whatever I try for V7 GPS settings neither version will find the GPS receiver, I simply get Flight Mode no GPS receiver found.

For V6 I set Other NMEA GPS receiver 4800bps COM4.

With this setting on V7 the orange LED does flash as if GPS receiver on.

I also found a 450.9028 repack 3 but I guess that is too old for the 850 map and too new for the V6 map.

Hence I have reverted to V6 which is working.
When this starts the screens says Flight Mode but then No Valid GPS signal! until it picks up.

Initially V6 took ages to pick up but then I changed my radio ROM from 1.65.16.25 to 1.65.24.36 which picks up much quicker.
