Here I compiled list of question and answer about using TomTom 6 with the HTC Kaiser. Forum Mods, if this is good enough, please make it sticky topic.
*** Which version of TomTom is in the Application CD?
6.032 (8351) - as of September 15, 2007
*** Is that full version or trial version?
It is called TomTom Taster Edition and It is full version, it will not expired, and there is no feature limitation compared to retail version.
*** Is it installed in the ROM by default?
No, it is not. You need to manually install it.
*** How to install it?
Connect to ActiveSync, from the HTC Kaiser Application CD, launch:
Installer_Kaiser_ttn_6_032_8351_HTC_WWE_20070716.E XE
*** I dont have that executable file in my HTC Kaiser Application CD!
Yes, you are not alone, probably you purchased North America version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329957
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327917&page=2
You can also download it here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/56585274/6_032_8351.rar (this link might not be permanent)
Or here (.CAB):
http://www.sendspace.com/file/9379xf (this link might not be permanent)
*** I have TomTom 6.030 (or prior version), what's the main difference?
6.032 has "Built-in Internal GPS" setting and the HTC Kaiser also have one.
*** Can I use/install other maps?
Yes you can. You can purchase additional maps (maps only), and then activate it.
*** Warning! Do not change the external GPS setting!
You should see "external GPS" icon in the Settings->System, do not change anything there.
You might need to hard-reset your device, more info:
http://www.modaco.com/word-warning-re-GPS-se-t258943.html
*** How can I use my own TomTom software?
So, you do not want to use TomTom from the Application CD.
Basically, you just need to install your own TomTom software and use this setting for the GPS:
- Other NMEA GPS receiver
- GPS baud rate = 4800
- GPS is connected to COM4:
For detailed information, check out here:
http://www.modaco.com/TomTom-Kaiser-t256790.html
*** How good is the internal GPS? Any problems?
From my own experience, it is working fine. Signal strength may vary and it depends on the situation (cloudy, clear sky, surounding area, buildings, etc.).
On average, I got satellite fix around 30 - 60 seconds.
However, some people experienced problems which you can follow here:
http://www.modaco.com/GPS-positioning-problems-t259285.html
Paul from MoDaCo.com (http://www.modaco.com), reported a bug
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly."
http://www.modaco.com/Paul-Reviews-HTC-P45-t256569.html
But, I think that problem is intermittent (randomly occur).
*** How about TomTom PLUS service?
Check out here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328444
*** TomTom always start with NO SOUND, why?
It's a bug, you have to switch off the data connection before starting TomTom.
SIMPLE FIX: Roll the volume wheel and sound turns on.
Thanks to all XDA-Dev users, Paul and other users from MoDaCo.com (http://www.modaco.com)
Feel free to add more information in here :)

The above is all good info.
However, if you are having problems do not believe that the above is the only setup that will work.
I happen to use a bluetooth setup from time to time and have used the external GPS settings without problems.
A working setup for me for intermal GPS uses Other NMEA on COM 9 at a Baud Rate of 19200. In the Tomtom settings.
All other GPS programmes I use are set to COM9
When I setup the bluetooth I have it set to:
Serial Port (ticked)
Outgoing Port COM 9
Authentication (unchecked)
External GPS (in System menu)
(Perform a full backup before changes here - due to reports that changes here may ruin the GPS connection requiring a hard-reset to get it going again)
GPS Programme Port COM9
Hardware (None)
Access (Manage GPS automatically - ticked)
By the way the basic freeware plotting applications I use DO NOT require the clumsy workaround of starting tomtom in order to open the internal GPS. That problem seems to be limited to an issue with Google Maps.
NB
Other ports will work - eg COM0 but you must ensure that for example if you set outgoing port in bluetooth (if you also use BT GPS) to COM0 then it will also be COM0 in tomtom or any other GPS software. Any mismatch and you'll wait forever!
NB
In the tomtom satellite screen (the one that shows aseries of columns for each satellite - there is a useful verbal comment at the top of the screen it will say one of three things:
1
No GPS Device - (always says this initially for 2/3 seconds. If things are set correctly it will move to 2 but if your ports are wrongly set it will stay on this)
2
No Valid GPS Signal - (means it has found internal GPS device and is trying to find satellites - anything from 2 or 3 seconds to couple of minutes if you have not used Quick GPS, it will then move to 3 if you are in range of satellites)
3
Other NMEA GPS Receiver - (says this when locked on to satellites and working correctly)
The above 3 steps are useful to just check whether the setup and port is correct. Even if you do not want to use tomtom it's worth running it at least once just to iron out any port problems.

Tried to install this 6.032 version on my TyTN II but got the following error on the device upon starting the installation: "Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again." - any ideas? Thanks ...
Would be happy to pay for the software / maps if they wouldn't it make all that difficult to get it installed for a trial ...

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I can't get the On board GPS to kick up and when I look under settings, the only thing there is "External GPS"....
How do you get it to use the internal GPS?

There is no "internal GPS" icon in the "Settings", only "external GPS"
And dont mess around with the "external GPS", you might need to hard-reset.
TomTom 6.032 has its own setting to use the "internal GPS".

I would disagree with that. Other versions of tomtom DO work. But in tomtom's "configure" select other NMEA instead of internal GPS:)

I agree. I wanted say is the only version capable to tune internal GPS from Tom Tom program. I know versions 6, 6.02 and 6.03 works with othen NMEA and port 4, but my impresion is with internal get satellites faster.

As I understood, the T-Mobile version does not have TomTom Taster edition included in the application CD, correct???
If that's the case, I am afraid that the TomTom 6.032 from the HTC Kaiser "unlocked" version is a special build only for that unlocked model.
Just use 6.030, it works fine (read in the FAQ).

I installed the Tom Tom and the one free Map, but I still have the same issue I had with Google maps of having to run GPS Viewer to start up the GPS.
I'm sure its a configuration issue for Tom Tom but I can't figure out what the problem is.

Does anyone else find it really annoying whereby if you receive a phone call while using TomTom, the screen switches to the phone meaning you can no longer navigate until the call has finished?
It seems the only way round this is to carefully press the X top right of the screen, but you can't tell if the caller has hung up then, so you have to press the red end call button, which looses the TomTom screen again!!
grr, why didn't they integrate phone features properly...

Yes, I have this too.
It never happened with an earlier version of TomTom on an MDA Compact III.
I raised this in an earlier post but got no replies.
Not sure whther it is the latest TomTom, a ROM issue, I am on T-Mobile or a windows 6 issue.
Someone may be able to offer a solution.

6.032 has "Built-in Internal GPS" setting and the HTC Kaiser also have one.
Are there any other additional features besides the "Built-In GPS Setting"? I am currently running 6.030 with traffic and everything working perfectly. Also to the best of my recollection, it already has the "Built-In GPS Setting"
Is there a change log anywhere, or if anyone can advise if there are any other advantages in upgrading to this latest release?
Also does this taster release, Version 6.032 have a working traffic option? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. I have an HTC Trinity, is this new version specifically designed for the Kaiser only?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I have tried both and the only difference I can see is the startup screen.:)
Both has internal GPS setttings - both work
Yep, the traffic works on 6.032
Startup sound is disabled on both but scrolling the thumb wheel fixes that ;)

Thanks for the link. Probably a real noob question but TT files and installation and a lot of things about it seem non standard. I have TT6.0 installed and working, I did get the files from your link. How do I install 6.03? Is it an upgrade, uninstall-reinstall or an over write install of 6.0? None of the .exe files (when connected by AS and launched from my PC) do anything.
Also does 6.03 actually support traffic or only 6.03X. Also do 6.0 maps with with 6.03 and 6.03X?
Running AT&T Tilt and ROM 1.57.502.2 by the way.
This is the basic installation file. Yes it supports traffic and all the other options. You will have to buy the full version to get the maps and activation code. I posted this for the above user to check whether he could actually get TT running on the Tilt.

Thanks. Still a bit confused. 6.0->6.03 is both not free and requires new maps?
If you legally own 6.x maps you should be able to go to 6.03 legally and without having to reauthorize any maps. So, AFAIK, 6.0->6.03 is free and does NOT require new maps. You can actually download 6.03 via the TomTom website and the TomTom HOME application.
I think confusion arises because the TomTom 6.032 application is given away in some HTC packagings but that doesn't include any map licenses. Folks aren't necessarily used to the TomTom licensing so they think they're getting free TomTom, when all they're getting is a limited/trial.

Before this phone I used the wizard with WM5 and it switched back to TT when answered the phone. After a while I installed a WM6 ROM on the Wizard and TT6 didn't come back when calling.... So I think it is a WM6 bug but I don't know for sure because less people react on this problem we have... or the don't mind.
I hope there will be a sollution for it!! :(

I was having this problem with the free map that I downloaded after install. After installing and activating a legitmate tomtom map, these problems went away. Could be an issue with the free map as with the legit map, there were other files which i assume were for traffic, updates, etc.
Also, make sure you create an account on the Tomtom website as the software will reference this. You can then go to the buddies section on the PDA and log in.

It should even with no maps, so just install the executable, download TomTomHOME and run it while your handheld is connected via activesync. That should prove that it works for you on your setup....

Why does this version (from the CD) not have a navigate to Post Code as the V5 I had on my Hermes did? Is it a function of the map you are using or because it's a generic/worldwide version?

Anyone has Real Traffic working in US? Anyone has been able to purchase more US maps for the Included TomTom app? If I get the fulll US Navigator 6 - willit run on the UK Kaiser?
I asked TomTom support:
I am getting an error, when trying to view or update traffic (California map) all the time and every time: TomTom Traffic - An error occurred on your TomTom Device (red Screen) and continue. This happens both with WiFi connection or 3G. Windows Mobile 6.
Tom Tom Response:
I am sorry, but the key to your issue is Windows Mobile 6. This operating system is not compatible with TomTom Navigator 6. Incompatibility does not necessarily mean non-functional. It just means that there are issues that remain unresolved that affect the functionality of the product. The errors that you are getting are demonstrative of some of these issues.
The HTC TyTnII does have Windows Mobile 6. This is the European version of the operating system. The version of Navigator 6 that comes pre installed on the device is also the European version. Although the European versions of these two pieces of software have the same look and 'feel' of the American versions, the actual programming code is substantially different.
The American version of Navigator 6 is incompatible with the European version of both pieces of software. The European version of Navigator is not compatible with the American map releases. All HTC TyTn II units are confirmed to have the European versions, and are incompatible with the American maps.
Unfortunately, we are unable to sell the European map releases in the United States. Any map that you purchase will be incompatible with the software on the unit. If your unit came with the US version of Windows Mobile 6, Navigator would not function on it.
My understanding is that the European version of Navigator 6 is not compatible with any of the US map releases for Navigator 6. The US version will not open European map releases, and the European version will not open any US map releases.
To use maps of the US, they must be the Nav 6 release from Europe since the version of Navigator is the European version. Likewise, any European map must also be the European release of the map. We are unable to provide the European releases of any map, here in the US.

Hi, guys,
Here's one from Kaiser newbie (sorry if there's an answer to this somewhere, tried, but couldn't find it):
Have a(n) (un)brand(ed) new Kaiser and this 2GB Micro SD Card. The thing is, no matter what I do, I can't force that bundled TT Navigator (or any other version, for that matter!) to install on my SD!!!
I need it because I am from Serbia, and (as if that alone wasn't enough ) the only map TomTom released covering my country was v6.08 East Europe BETA! which has around 170MB. There's a lot of local forums stating that it is quite operational, but needs a bit of tweaking to get it there, which includes puting both TT6 app and the Eastern_Europe-Map folder to the root of SD.
Piece-a-cake, I thought, but then I hit the wall. I do get to a point of being asked for an install location, but even if I select my SD card ("Storage card"), I end up with TT6 installed in default Program Files folder! Tried with ActiveSync, manual install, CabInst and some other reg-tweakers (promising to solve things but failing miserably), etc.
Not just that app, to be specific, some other behave likewise, but majority of apps install as supposed to...
What gives?!?

Is there a good way to use TomTom without having the internal GPS come on? In either 6.030 or 6.032 I can only seem to do that by reconfiguring to use a different (fake) port for the GPS.... there has to be better way, doesn't there?
What am I missing?
TIA,

i was able to install the tom tom taster version on my tilt without any trouble. it was a version from the netherlands, but i was able to get an english voice by following th PLUS link - and it cost me nothing extra which was nice.
however, i noticed that my location was far off from where i actually was. in google maps my position was exact within a few meters, so i was surprised. worse yet, now my position in google maps is was yoff. the cursor also moves arou d a lot - drifting in and arou nd my atual loction. mayb somthing about the intall or my selections for tom tom preferences are causing this issue. does anyone have any ideas?

Tried to install this 6.032 version on my TyTN II but got the following error on the device upon starting the installation: "Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again." - any ideas? Thanks ...
Would be happy to pay for the software / maps if they wouldn't it make all that difficult to get it installed for a trial ...
I have got the same issue.
Did anyone know how to fix it?

I am having a weird problem with tomtom 6.032 with the voice. For some reason the voice has issues with stating how many yards a turn is so it just says "Right turn " it doesn't say the yards. like 200 or 400 or 800. It says it sometimes if i go in the unit setup and i go through or if i change the voice. But it stops saying it after a little bit. anyone else have this weird problem ?

I just got off the phone with Tomtom, they are very nice. Unfortunately, they don't provide much support for the free 'taster' version that we have. he suggested trying a different voice to see if that resolves the issue. I'm going to download and install a different voice to see if that helps.

Also are there any other versions of Tom Tom that do work with duttys ROM and are downloadable?

You need to go outside and let the Tilt sync with the GPS satellites. You are problem inside and the signal is too weak.

Uncheck "Link to Car Speed" and volume will not be mute upon startup.
Goto "Change Preferences"->Right Arrow->Volume Preferences->Uncheck "Link volume to car speed"
Not a bug.
*** TomTom always start with NO SOUND, why?
It's a bug, you have to switch off the data connection before starting TomTom.
SIMPLE FIX: Roll the volume wheel and sound turns on.

I'm having problems loading maps from TomTom. I have installed the taster edition which came on my CD (6.032.8351) which installed fine, locates satellites etc, but when I open up and log into TT Home it won't find my device.
From what I've read, I need to do this to connect through to the TomTom website to download the maps I've bought.
Can I download the maps without my phone being connected, or do I need the connection. If I do need the connection, can anyone offer some tips on why I can't connect.
My Kaiser is an unbranded HTC with HardSPL and Schaps 4.21.

Not for me at least - I never have Link to Car Speed checked. Tried 6.030 both ways and always starts muted. Further, the scroll wheel shows volume changing, but the muted icon stays onscreen until I toggle sound on and off a few times in the settings.
Not a feature.

I've downloaded TomTom to my Tilt with ATT ROM and have successfully activated my maps to the U.S. The program constantly displays "Connecting to GPS device", but can not fix onto satellites (after being outside for 15 minutes).
I notice that the blinking light on the right is blue and not amber. The light does turn to amber when I'm using the google maps method, but not with TomTom. I keep bluetooth disabled in the wireless manager tab, but when I go into TomTom, it enables the bluetooth, and it seems as if it is expecting to communicate with an external gps receiver via bluetooth. I have not changed the settings in the Externalgps icon.
Any ideas?

If your phone is showing 'connecting to gps' it's possible that there is a port conflict. Try the following:
1. Start TomTom
2. Tap screen where the satellite bars are - bottom left. (look like phone signal strength bars).
3. Tap sattelites again on right.
4. On sattelite screen select 'configure'.
5. Select 'Other NMEA GPS receiver'.
6. Select baud rate. Try with the default of 4800. (Mine works with 4800 upwards).
7. Tap 'done' then select com port. Mine had com4 and com7 available. Com4 worked and com7 didn't (hung like yours did).
8. Go outside and wait 20 minutes. If you get a fix, or the message reads 'waiting for sattelites (or similar) you have the right port.
If this doesn't work, try changing the port. Possibly, also try turning off your bluetooth because I believe that this can use the same port as your GPS.
Good luck.

Hi,
i had changed settings in the start menu/"parameters"/"external gps"
in order to use "sprite terminator" and "wififofum":
i set com "0" in "software" tab
and "none" in "gps hardware port" /bitrate "4800"/access tab ticked
and after that my tomtom 6 wasnt detecting any more my kaiser internal gps.
i saw here that , the only fix was to hard reset:
i think i found a fix.

i downloaded the arm/ppc2003 cab version
the good cab is named regedit.Mrln_ARM.CAB
i transfered it to my tytn, installed it:
and made a backup of whole registry:
after browsing in it, on my deskop:
i found

so i changed (please backup your registery before on the tytn ii)

KeVShek..I understand your frustation. I assumed you have the TyTN II with Mapking software included, Am I right? (Just need to clarify so that we can help other people with the same problem).
I got the problem last time and this is how I resolve it (at the end, I can use TomTom and 1 free map!!)
1. Download the .cab file from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338469&highlight=TomTom+6+for+Tilt
(credit to "kireol" for posting this TomTom for Tilt. I know..eventhough it is for Tilt, but it is actually working on my TyTN II version--> comes with Mapking bundle instead of TomTom)
2. Save the .cab file somewhere in your storage card. (Keep your TyTN II connected to your PC)
3. Run the .cab file from file explorer (in your TyTN II)
4. Should install with no problem (there should be no "...please update you Rom.." message anymore if you have the same version of TyTN II as I am)
5. After that, TomTom will prompt you to download 1 free map, then follow the instruction and YOU ARE ON!!
6. Unfortunately, the download does not come with the sound file. Go to TomTom website and download TomTom HOME software for PC (free).
7. Install the software on PC, connect your TyTN II, then it will check you device as TyTN II with TomTom Navigator 6 installed. Next, TomTom HOME will check for updates and WHOALA! you can choose 1 navigator voice of your like. Follow the on screen instruction and you are ready to go!! Drive Safely!!!
I hope my step by step guide can shed some lights to those who has the same version as my TyTN II (come with Mapking instead of TomTom)

I did all this, and it still isn't finding the internal GPS.
The only things out of the ordinary in my procedure, as compared to yours:
Under Multiplexer/ActiveDevice, "Context" was set to a different 8 digit number. I don't remember what it had; I changed it to yours. I can restore the registry and retrieve the number, if necessary.
In TomTom, after selecting "Other NMEA GPS receiver", it only asks for a baud rate, not a port number.
Where, exactly, were you able to specify a port number?
I think I'm going to try again -- restore the registry and leave that "Context" entry alone. Any ideas on your end?
Thanks for your post, I appreciate the help.

In tomtom6, when i am in the gps windows(with the satellites bars/circles)
on the bottom left , i have a "configure"(translated from french) button,
i tip on it, i had, by defaut "internal gps", i click "next" untill having "other nmea gps":
i tipp on the bottom right button "select" ,
i am proposed "gps baud rate" i let the 4800 value
i tip on the bottom right button "terminate"
and there i have a window "the gps is connected to:"
i have two choices "com:0" or "com:7", i set "com:0" as in the registry.
nb1: if i set in parameters/system/external gps , com4, in the software tab, tomtom will propose me "com4:" or "com:7".
nb2: i am not able to set a com value in the "hardware" tab (same path as nb1) , only the bauds rate 4800 is shown, i have "none" in "hardware gps port".
whatever i am trying to set as a value(com0 to com9), it's not "memorized" in this tab, the onlypoint is, i cannot set the same value as the software tab(obviously).
I think I'm going to try again -- restore the registry and leave that "Context" entry alone. Any ideas on your end?

Hi,
You don't have to restore the registry to read the initial context value:
on your desktop , you right click (in order to avoid to merge your desktop registery with the kaiser's one) and , then, choose "modify" it will open it in "notepad".
nb: my tomtom version is 6.032(8351) , gps driver 1.20.(version supplied with my TYTN II(kaiser) on cdrom)
hoping it wil help you

This last step does not happen on my TomTom [6.032(8351)]. After selecting the baud rate, I hit "terminate" (or "done", as it says in the english version), and it simply goes back to the GPS Status window (with all the satellite bars). I'm never prompted to select a port. Is there another way to do this, maybe through the registry again?

next tap on the "version 6.032" rectangle

I got it! I got it! :D :D :D
I restored the registry and redid everything. What I did differently:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]
"Index"=dword:00000000
"Prefix"="COM"
"Context"=dword:12344160
"Flags"=dword:00000002
"Keep"=dword:00000001
"Dll"="GPSID_QCT.dll"
My "Index" was originally set to dword:00000009 (I tried com9 through Settings/System/External GPS before originally attempting your procedure). I did this the first time and on my second try as well, but I forgot to mention it in my first post.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice]
"Index"=dword:00000000
"Prefix"="COM"
"Context"=dword:12344160
"Flags"=dword:00000002
"Keep"=dword:00000001
"Dll"="GPSID_QCT.dll"
As it turns out, I was reading the wrong number for "Context". I read 305414496, which is actually what you get from having dword:12344160. So this was just plainly my mistake.
Just to be clear, I have done everything exactly as listed in invasion13's procedure (everything on COM0). However, under the Bluetooth settings for my external GPS (Settings/Connections/Bluetooth), I have it setup just as mikechannon described (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1515157&postcount=3) (COM9):
When I setup the bluetooth I have it set to:
Serial Port (ticked)
Outgoing Port COM 9
Authentication (unchecked)
In TomTom, when selecting "Other Bluetooth GPS receiver", I set it to COM9.
So, in conclusion, your procedure works like a charm on the Tilt, without having to hard reset! And I am once again a happy camper! Thanks invasion13.

I wouldn't worry about the fact Tomtom 6 Navigator must be in the main memory. The program itself is very small, it's most of the maps that gobble up storage space.

The next step is to download and install the free Tomtom Home application on your PC (you can get it here: http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=17 make sure you get the Navigator 6 option on the right). In Tomtom Home there is a menu option on the left called 'buy the latest maps' and the good news is that they currently have a 50% off special so the map of the UK and Ireland is £29.95 and the whole of Western Europe only £10 more (I went for the latter so I'm covered when I go on holiday).

I did have cause to contact the TomTom people though and here in the UK they responded quickly. I'm having little problem with Tomtom (v6.032) on my Tilt. It constantly starts up with the sound off. In order to turn sound on I have to go to Change Preferences/Turn On Sound twice. It never works from the first attempt. The same time if I go to Change Preferences and just open and close Volume Prefereces without making any changes, sound will be turned on immediately.
The problem is that Sound On setting will not be saved. Next time I start Tomtom sound will be off again and I'll have to go through these steps again.
Of course, it's not a life threatening problem, but really annoying. Does anybody know what should I do to set Sound On as a default setting?

yeah its the taster version...also, the way i got 2 free maps, was because my neighbor has the same phone as i do, so he got the free map for a different area than me, so he sent his map file to me and i tried installing it, that is when it asked me to activate it...

Does anybody know what should I do to set Sound On as a default setting?A known issue posted in these threads several times. The quickest workaround is to just turn the jog wheel (volume knob on the side) when TomTom is running and the problem is gone. You've prompted me to email HTC and TomTom about it though (the more people complain about this, the sooner they'll release a fix)!

With 50% off their maps at the moment what more incentive do you need to buy a map covering the area you need? If you only want a free mapping program without the same functionality of TomTom, there's always Google Maps for the Kaiser but although this seems to work well for me in a basic way, it relies on data download.

Unfortunately the jog wheel volume fix doesn't seem to work on my Tilt (stock ROM) either - it shows volume changing but the muted icon stays on until I do the double enable :(

With all due respect, that's because you didn't "get two free maps", you got one free map and you stole another map.

RichardIt looks as if the problem is more serious on the AT&T Tilt then. Time to ask TomTom or AT&T (who ever sold you the software - mine came with my HTC branded TyTN II) for a fix. I've not searched here for this problem on the Tilt and perhaps there's already something covering that in the forums. I just remembered the part that affected my setup.

I believe that is not the 50% off price, since I also see the UK and Ireland map at price: € 39.95 (not £29.95).
Can you tell me if I am seeing the 50% discounted price, or if there is a code I need to provide in order to get the 50% discount?

Anyone else encountered TT6 freezing up while operating? It then would try to recalculate repeated, without finding the accurate current location. I tried resetting the unit, and it would slow down the processor even more.
I'm running the original ATT Rom and have a 6GB card with approx 2 GB available. Would another ROM be more stable?
Any input appreciated.

sometimes i lost my gps position but tomtom 6 is recalculating very fast the new trip, much faster than my old Axim X5(performance) with TT5.

I searched this thread and could not find anybody mentioning this problem.
I am using TomTom installed on the storage card with original Kaiser under AT&T. The program works well once I have started GPS with GPS Viewer and gives me perfect instructions.
The small problem is as follows: TomTom comes on as the first thing every time I do a soft reset on the phone! Even when I start Sprite Backup! I have to then hit the "agree" button and then try three clicks on the TomTom screen to exit the program before I can do anything else. It does not seem to cause any malfunction of anything else, but it is really annoying! I do not have TomTom on the startup menu or folder, I did all I could to make it invisible....but it still pops up first. Any thoughts?

delete the 2577 folder from your sd card and it will stop the autostart up

Look for a directory on the storage card called "2577". This is a Windows Mobile autorun directory. The file that is being executed on reset should be in there. You can delete just the file or the whole "2577" directory.

Having done the above, it eliminated the pesky autostart interference.....but then TomTom does not start when I call it. It goes through the "Agree" page and then the next screen comes up and says "could not find maps". Then the only option is "done" and the program goes off. I restored the 2577 folder and now the startup interference is back on but the program works. Is there a happy solution for both problems?

Never seen that. Make sure the map directory/ies aren't in the backed up 2577 directory. If so copy them to the root directory of the storage card and try it again.

Hi,
did you try with an utility like pocket mechanics pro, to check if there are some corrupt files (ie the maps), on your sd card.
i had that kind of worry with tt5 and my dell axim x5, with an unreliable sdcard
(data corruption: strange folders' and files' names with $ symbols)
there's a 30days trial period for pmp, have on look on their website
www.wizcode.com.
it's a valuable product, worth to buy it.

I tried three utilitys....Pocket mechanics, memmaid en skstools...
I don't know a way to specificly remove corrupt files only on the sd card... but performed all the tools in the utilities above...
Still no result...TomTom still freezes every couple of minutes...for about 30-60 seconds and then picks up again for the next couple of minutes...

Did you mean the utilities did find some corrupt files on your card?
if it was the case the only way to make it work, was for me to format
the whole card after backing up the unbroken ones(i was unable to remove/delete the corrupted ones with my Dell's sdcard)

I have to admit that after using TomTom 6 on my Tilt for a couple of months, it just doesn't seem to be that great.
I have had to hard reset my phone once because it corrupted something on my Tilt when it hung the phone and I did a soft reset.
The program sometimes just hangs and needs to be restarted.
The mapping algorithm isn't that good. It doesn't always pick the most logical route path.

If by "minutes" you mean 2 or 3 minutes, then you didn't wait long enough. The first connection can take 8 minutes or more with a clear view of the sky. It will say "no GPS Device" if it can't find the GPS hardware. "No GPS Signal" means it hasn't found the signal yet. It may be a hardware problem but it sounds like you either don't have a clear view of the sky and/or haven't let it search long enough.
Good luck,

So I installed it on my Dutty's TILT (the corrected version). Interesting. But I must say these maps are useless for high-construction cities (like Vegas). The default installation for voices is in the Navigator folder in the main memory, while the maps are in the SD card root directory.
Moved the voices folder to the SD card root, and all works 100% now!
Guess it was something to do with the two memories being accessed at the same time.

Well, before to answer if it is worth or not, we have to make it run w/ tomtom 6 engine; but before to make it runs, we MUST have it on hand.
I can tell for sure, eventhough I don't have it, it has differences, at least a version number.

Buy Garmin Mobile XT 10 then it definitely WILL definately make you feel a lot better how tomtom 6 is. I used to think like you until I forced to Garmin XT 4.10.40w because TT map is not available for Middle East Countries.
Garmin XT is locked to the card, whenever you want to change a card, then your headache is going on, especially when you have to place calls to overseas for buying and customers supporting due to lack of country dealers. Furthermore, it comes with free base USA maps which is useless and eat about 10MB and I haven't found the properly way to get rid of it.
Tomtom sounds better now? You decide.

All I can say, is that I'm using Mio Maps on my Tilt, and it works...beautifully. Better than TT. Not as user friendly, but just better in every category but friendliness. :)
As far as the same kind of maps, the difference is that with TomTom I had to place the whole North American maps folder on my SD card to have it work since there are no individual State maps to download. With Mio Maps I choose the State and load them in the map folder. Why have States I'll never visit, and if I do, I can update my map folder before I go. :p

I do find a map that covers my area, which is the KS MO OK AR map.

I wish they'd seperate them by State, since it's easier to load just the maps you need rather than the whole Country. I just thought that was common sense. Again, that's why Mio Map is my fav right now. I'm testing a new one every other day on my Tilt. I'll let ya know which one I pick next and if its better or worse than Mio.

My state is Kansas, and I of course travel to Missouri a lot.
UPDATE:
I sent an email to TomTom support viw My TomTom, and they replied back with a phone number to call. Teh support experience was very good. I was on the line with someone within 5 min, and I ended up downloading a new map. It was quite a process to get 'authenticated'. I had to scan my ID card, and invoice to prove I own the software. But I have a working US map now. I plan to just use that.
But they indicated, as well as what I see above, that the regional map should work. But it didn't. Maybe Kansas is not considered the Midwest by them.
Anyway, think I'm in good shape.

i may have missed this in my interpretation, but are you using mio maps with a tomtom app? after spending hundreds of dollars on the tomtom pda s/w i'm not thrilled with buying more maps...also, does anyone know if i buy version 7 maps for a different tt device, can i make them work with pda v6?
he's using mio maps with mio's software. but i said that mio and tomtom get their maps from the same source......teleatlas.
and the v7 maps......you probably have to wait for tomtom navigator v7 to be released.

I have both apps on my Tilt. I switch back-n-forth to whatever one I feel like using that day, but Mio's maps are much better than TomToms. More detail, and over-all I like the UI better. TomTom is just more "user friendly" to get going and I've installed a ton of custom POI's on TomTom, so thats what gets me back to using it now and then. :)

HI
Well, you should install the Plain map not Mid west map. :)
Per tomtom definitions:
Plains map: CO+IO+KS+MN+MO+MT+NE+ND+SD+WY
Mid West map: IL+IN+KY+MI+OH+TN+WS

Where's the best place to get custom POI's and that may be somewhat 'kept current'? I've found some through Google, but not sure how good they are.

Ok, to make some on your own goto http://www.poi2go.com/mypoi/ and download the little Java app called "mypoi". It'll run right on your desktop in java and you can type in a keyword like "Pizza", then put in your zip and then how far you'd like a radius to search. Then it'll list all of the "pizza" places (for example) within your search range. Then on the bottom of the app you fill in a name for this file, choose .ovl (for TomTom), and then click SAVE and it'll put two files on your desktop. One is the .ovl file containing the poi info, and the other is ageneric .bmp file. You can use any program you want to change the .bmp image to match your custom POI instead of using the generic one it gives you. JUST MAKE SURE YOU RENAME IT THE SAME AS THE .ovl FILE if you edit it and that the dimensions stay the same. Then, just drag and drop BOTH files into your maps folder and BAM! You're done. You can also goto www.tomtomforums.com/ and get poi's people already made, and there are custom car icons and all kinds of good stuff there.

Any other questions just ask. I like TomTom but you should try Mio Maps too. :)

Hi guys... sorry if this is a noobie question, but I searched the User Guide and here and can't find out how to exit TT6.
Right now, I can get out if I hit the OK button, which gets me back to the Today screen, but TT is still running.
Can I exit from the program itself? Or do I need to shut it down from outside (like WMP10)?
Thanks.

When TT is running tap on the top middle of the screen > tap on the "right arrow" twice and you will see "exit application"

Look for a directory on the storage card called "2577". This is a Windows Mobile autorun directory. The file that is being executed on reset should be in there. You can delete just the file or the whole "2577" directory.

Thank you, I couldnt figure that one out.

I upgraded my tomo tomo from 5.21 to 6 (the newest version) everything seem ok except the new version don't have map rotate feature. I need to open a keyboard to set it to labndscape mode. Do I have other choice to set ip into landscape without open the keyboard as when I used the old 5.21 version. Thanks in advance

I've seen this question asked a couple of times in this thread but wonder if anyone has an answer;
I have a tomtom 720 with Western European Map. I have used the Tomtom Home software (of the 720) to save the map to my computer (all 1.5gb). There seem to be loads of files, some of which are zips when you do a save, which I copied across in their entirety to my sd card, but I cannot get my TytnII tomtom to recognise the map.
Has anyone "imported" a map from another TomTom (I don't think that I am doing anything illegal here, as I have paid for for the original map) and if so, how do I do this?

Hi Guys, need some help with installing TOMTOM on my TYTN II, I have tried both the exe installer and the cab from the wiki link, however both of them shows the error message:
Please update your ROM to the required version.
Here is the version detail of my TYTN II:
ROM Ver: 1.82.707.0 WWE
Radio Ver: 1.27.15.32
Protocol Ver: 22.51.88.13H

Steve,
try this version. It worked fine for me, when I was having Rom issues. Not sure what the differences are between all the versions, but this says that it's ver.6032_8351
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=13EJMRYH
and works on my TytnII HTC orange phone. I installed the TomTom Home software too and got a London Map
I'm now trying to see if I can get my TomTom 720 maps on to this...although TomTom say that they are not compatible....hmmmmm

Unless you are removing the map from the one unit and installing it on the other, you ARE violating TomTom's licensing. I'm not even sure they'll allow that movement, regardless.
In any case, you'd need to use TomTom HOME to install the copied maps and then you'd need to contact TomTom for a new legal license key - which probably costs the same amount of money as buying the map directly.

your 720 is probably using v7 maps, which tomtom navigator 6 cannot read

I think that you are both right. I copied the maps to the Tomtom install directory for my Tomtom mobile and get asked for a product code. Looked on my TomTom boxes, software etc, but cannot find any...so assume that I have to buy this again through TomTom...bummer :(

I have moved my device registration from an old device to a new one. I had TomTom Navigator 6 installed on my HP iPAQ hw6515. When I upgraded to the Tilt I just called and changed my registered device.

Good to know! Given that the OP had a standalone box, I don't know if TomTom would look kindly on moving to a PocketPC version...but I have no direct knowledge.

I moved from a WM device to another WM device. I don't know if they will let you switch device types.

This version works fine. However, I am only allowed to install one free map. If I install a new ROM, can I change this map when I install Tom Tom again?
